Camp Breck provides an active and educational summer adventure for campers entering preschool through 2nd grade. In Camp Breck you develop personal responsibility, community skills, and friendships through fun learning activities. Friendly, experienced camp counselors lead activities full of hands-on projects including music, art, technology, sports, science and nature, crafts, Red Cross swimming lessons, and more! Campers in grades P-2 will also have the opportunity to take ownership of their BSP experience with the freedom to pick a supervised, counselor-led activity of interest to them during weekly BSP “Power Hour.” You’ll spend the day in same age co-ed groups of 10 to 16 campers guided by two camp counselors. There is time to relax and develop valuable relationships with the camp staff and each other.

Camp Breck is offered each session and runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Half-day options are available from Noon to 3:30 pm if you are enrolled in Sports Camp or Camp à la Carte programs. Half-day Camp Breck is also available from 8:30 am-Noon for preschool- and kindergarten-aged campers. $300 half day | $565 full day Sessions 1, 2 and 3.

3 Jr. Adventure Camp is offered for campers entering 3rd 4 and 4th grades. You’ll experience all the great teacher-led

activities of Camp Breck—with the added fun of an afternoon field trips each week. You will spend the day in co-ed groups of 16 campers guided by two camp counselors. There is time to relax and develop valuable relationships with the camp staff and each other.

Jr. Adventure Camp is offered each session and runs from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Half-day Jr. Adventure Camp options are available from 8:30 am to Noon and Noon to 3:30 pm if you are enrolled in Sports Camp or Camp à la Carte. $300 half day AM | $350 half day PM | $565 full day Sessions 1, 2 and 3.

Adventure Camp • For campers entering 5th through 8th grades

away from the Wolf Ridge Campus for a day-trip to Ely, MN. On Thursday, campers will visit Minnesota’s first iron ore mine—the Soudan Mine, which opened in 1882. Campers will explore the underground mines on a guided tour. But, that’s not all! On our way back to Wolf Ridge, we will make a “pit stop” at the International Wolf Center where campers will explore wolves in their habitat and learn from many wolf experts. Of course no “off-campus journey” would be complete without dinner out on the town. We will end our adventure-filled day at Sir G’s Pizza before returning to Wolf Ridge for the night. Please note the dates of this trip are June 17-21. *This camp pairs perfectly with our Off Campus Adventures Camp | $625

In Adventure Camp, 5th to 8th graders learn more about themselves through authentic hands-on experiences in our community. In these courses you will explore personal values, develop an awareness of others, and enhance team-building skills. Whether navigating the water or a trail, visiting Minnesota landmarks, going out into the community or experiencing a week at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center, you’ll challenge yourself daily while learning new skills. Specific course dates and times are listed on the BSP registration website.

Environmental Explorations: Soudan and Wolf Center Excursion Adventure, awareness, and respect are what you will experience in this active and experiential overnight environmental course. You will have the extraordinary opportunity to explore the great outdoors while staying, Monday-Friday, at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center located in Finland, MN (www.wolf-ridge.org). Soar to new heights while learning to rock climb and tackling the high-element ropes course. You will also study nature firsthand as you participate in classes such as animal signs, stream study, wetland ecology, living lightly, canoeing, and Voyageur life. These classes rotate each year to spark the interest of both returning and new campers. During this week of camp, campers will journey

Environmental Explorations: Superior National Forest and Canoeing Excursion This week, we will enjoy all the great adventures at Wolf Ridge (see write-up for week one), with the exception of our off campus outing! During this week of Environmental Explorations, campers will leave Wolf Ridge bright and early Thursday morning to embark on a voyage to Superior National Forest. Once there, we will be surrounded by the beautiful landscape as we set out for a day on the water! Campers will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and work together to canoe across the lake. We will take a break midday and enjoy a picnic lunch and swimming. After a full day of paddling, you can be sure you’ll work up quite the appetite...what better way to end a day than to stop by a local “hot spot” and grab some pizza or a burger before heading back to Wolf Ridge? “Canoe barely contain your excitement?!” Please note the dates of this trip are June 24-28. *This camp pairs perfectly with our Off Campus Adventures Camp | $625 breckschool.org/summer-programs * 3

Off Campus Adventures Attention Middle Schoolers…we want to share our summer enthusiasm with you! We’ve scouted out the most fun and exciting places in the Twin Cities, and Breck teacher Tara Feeney wants to take you there. Please join us for this week-long adventure throughout the Twin Cities. Each day you will hop on a bus with your fellow campers and head out for a day of FUN. Trips may include Valleyfair, Big Thrill Factory, French Regional Park, a scavenger hunt in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Vertical Endeavors or canoeing at Bde Maka Ska. This course pairs perfectly with our Environmental Explorations Courses. Session 1 | Week One: June 17-21 Week Two: June 24-28 | $415 each week NEW! Middle School Mock Trial Students will spend ten days learning the ins and outs of a trial—how to cross examine a witness, how to build a character, and how to object when the other side breaks the rules! The course features the case of the Congdon Murders—one of the most famous trials in Minnesota history. Every student in the program will have a part to play in the trial—as an attorney for the state, an attorney for the defendant, or one of six colorful witnesses there to tell their side of the story. They will be guided by Chris Erickson, a National Champion and All-American Attorney with years of coaching experience. Session 2 | Full Day | $450

Boys of Summer It’s back, gentlemen, and it’s better than ever! Yes, you will still participate in a spitting distance competition. Yes, this experience is still tailor-made for lovers of baseball, football, soccer, high-dives, mud, loud music, action movies, fort-building, mosquito bites, capture-the-flag, Risk, water-balloon fights, any game that resembles dodge ball, basketball, camping, boot hockey, tug-of-war, go-carts, 500, real-life Survivor, and any activity better suited for a padded room or a dirt field. However, unlike last year where we only had the opportunity to mix it up in the afternoon, you will now have the chance to do all things boys, all day long. If any of the activities listed above sound exciting, this is the adventure for you. Led by Matthew Mendes, Breck faculty. Session 3 | Full Day | $650 NEW! Girls Just Wanna Have Fun If you are a middle school aged girl who likes to have fun in the sun, this two-week course is for you! From cuisine in the kitchen to kickball in the courtyard, we will explore a wide range of activities that push us outside of our comfort zone and build confidence and community! Classes are intended to be mixed and matched with other offerings at Breck Summer Programs to create the ideal camp experience tailored to each individual child. Mission Minecraft Join Breck third-grade teacher Barbara Jacobs-Smith for a coding adventure. Campers will use iPads to take on the persona of Steve or Alex this session as they discover the amazing world of Minecraft. Together, we will explore randomly-generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles. We will tame horses, wolves, and ocelots. We will play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs! Campers will experience cooperative game play on iPads while visiting each other’s worlds. We will also bring our virtual world to life by using Minecraft Legos to transform our creations from 2D to 3D. Campers will even be taught the coding skills they need to bring a frozen Minecraft world to life. Once they code their own Minecraft game, they can then share it and invite their friends to play. So, put on your armor, grab your tools, and let’s get Minecrafting. Session 1 | $350

Led by professional chess instructor Igor Rybakov, Chess Camp will offer students the opportunity to learn and compete, develop friendships, and master a game that will provide hours of enjoyment—and intellectual stimulation— throughout your lifetime. 1 Breck Summer Programs is teaming up with Code Ninjas 2 for this amazing camp! The best way for your kids to 3 learn to code is by building games that they love and

enjoy playing. This camp is the coolest place for your child to build their very own video game every single day! Their game building skills will progress further each day, and they’ll have a blast every step of the way. Games are made in Scratch®, and all experience levels will have a great time. Our easy-to-follow system, with support and encouragement from our Code Senseis®, will enable kids to learn by building video games. Campers don’t realize they’re learning – just having fun! Wonderful World of Wizardry Calling all Harry Potter enthusiasts! Join us for this two-week course as we practice mixing potions, making wands, and baking Harry Potter-inspired snacks. We will also send each other letters using our very own Messenger Owls and even play a few rounds of Quidditch. On the first day, campers will get a turn to sit under the BSP “Sorting Hat” and be placed in our very own “BSP Houses.” Session 2 | $275 Blowing off a little STEAM There is no limit to the distance you can travel, how much you can learn, and the fun you can have all without ever leaving the classroom. Come and explore the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) world using iPads, computers, hands-on experiments, and your very own curiosity and imagination. Exciting and powerful apps will allow you to search outer space, explore light, colors and patterns, build machines and create your own virtual inventions, erect bridges and then test them to see what they can withstand. We will also take a peek into the world of coding. Campers will practice writing code and problem solving through various coding apps. NEW! Sustainable, Clean, and Mindful Cooking How important is it to eat clean and healthy? Campers will learn the difference between GMO vs Non-GMO foods and their effects on how they make our bodies feel. During this two-week course, campers will get to make their own smoothies and salads while exploring an array of fruits and vegetables. We’ll also learn the functionality of a Solar Oven that we’ll use for Solar Cooking! This course wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the local farmers market for the freshest ingredients. At the end of this course, campers will take home their very own recipe book to share with friends and family! We can’t wait to see what you whip up in the kitchen. Session 2 | $300

With the help of Magic School bus videos and books, there is no telling where the adventures will lead. Campers will even hop on board our own Magic School Bus to see where it will take us. NEW! Code Ninjas Roblox® Create

1 Power your child’s imagination! In this camp, students 2 will learn the basics of building and creating in Roblox®, 3 a family-friendly, user-generated online gaming platform.

In Roblox, your child can create much more than just a game. Every student will design, plan, and build their own 3D world! Become a virtual explorer and create adventures, play games, role play and learn with friends in a family-friendly, immersive, 3D environment. This camp is not textbook based; it will be guided by our awesome Code Senseis®. Acting Out The Children’s Theatre Company and Breck Summer Programs are teaming up again for a session filled with imagination, creativity, and fun. Through a combination of storytelling, creative writing, and theater arts exercises, campers will explore the art of story. Focusing on the genres of fables and animal tales, campers will learn lines, create props and costumes, and ultimately transform the tales to be shared anew with families on the final day of the session for a performance in Breck’s Cargill Theater. 1 Want to spark your child’s inner Ninja? This camp will 2 offer an immersive environment for kids to explore 3 various technologies, develop new skills and have a great

NEW! Timeless Tales: Exploring Ancient Myths, Legends, and Cultures A myth is a special kind of story that explains the existence of natural phenomenon, or how things came to be in the world. Around the world and across many different cultures, these timeless tales have been told and retold for generations, but why? What can ancient myths teach us today? From digging deep into the ruins of Greek and Roman mythology to reading between the lines of Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, this course will travel back-and-forth in time to inspire campers to create their own myths to share with the world! Campers will take a field trip to the Minneapolis Art Institute to find inspiration for their special BSP project! Session 1 | $350

4 Are you intrigued with technology and want to create 5 your very own commercial, short movie, or documentary 6 to share with your friends and family? All photographers

and videographers benefit from daily opportunities to explore the world around them and, in this camp, we will do just that! Come and join Breck teacher Rob Johnson as you use still and video cameras to create your own masterpieces. During this camp you will learn how to use digital editing software to perfect a project of your choosing. 4 Start the morning with calming Chinese calligraphy and 5 painting. Campers will learn the process for making their 6 own ink from ink stone and use Chinese paint brushes to

write characters on rice paper. Throughout this two-week camp, students will also be able to use colorful ink to create their own artwork, anything from a traditional Chinese painting to an imaginative masterpiece. NEW! Building with LEGO® Mindstorms Be introduced to the exciting and emerging field of robotics. Improve your LEGO building skills by building with gears, pulleys, beams, and axles. Build a forklift, a grabber, or a tracked robot. Learn to create mechanical masterpieces. The focus in this course will be building rather than programming a robot, but there will be a chance to try some programming so your creation can move around! NEW! Chinese Theater Show

1 Hold your horses! In this class, you may be as busy as a 2 bee! Did you know there is a sea of idioms in Chinese 3 culture? They are usually four-characters long. They come from stories and tell lessons learned. In this fun and engaging course, campers will learn and act out Chinese idioms stories. For example, “huà bǐng chōng jī” means to draw a cake to satisfy one’s hunger (feed on illusions). Join us as we let our imaginations run wild as we act out classic Chinese idioms. Bring your active clothes, prepare to wiggle and get your sillies out as we explore the world of idioms! At the end of this two week course, campers will showcase their theater skills as well as their Chinese proficiency at the BSP End-of-Session Family Celebration. Session 1 | $350

Service Sampler Do you want to do something to make your community a better place? Do you want to spend your time helping others and animals!? Join Breck teacher Tara Feeney to make a difference in our community. By sampling service opportunities, you will acquire a deeper understanding of yourself and the gifts you have to offer others! Some projects may include making blankets and delivering them to animals in need at the Animal Humane Society, creating friendship bracelets for the MN Children’s Hospital, and a field trip to Feed My Starving Children. LEGO® Micro City Build a LEGO Micro City with Breck faculty Kris Simonson. LEGO builders will learn a standard scale for building modular parts to a city. We will also learn about the types of places and buildings that make up a city and work to build our own mini creations! In addition, we will learn about LEGO WeDo programming software, a beginner robotics building system that can help us motorize some parts of our city. What are you waiting for? Let’s get building! NEW! Just B Solar PLUS Breck Summer Programs is teaming up with Just B Solar to offer a camp experience that will take students to the heart of the solar revolution. Just B Solar founder, Keith Dent, is a Northside solar installer, and will share his wealth of knowledge about real projects with the students. This summer campers will study the basics of Renewable and Non-Renewable Resources and learn about their importance in the environment. Students will discover the science behind Hydro Fuel Cell and its future potential and applications. We have plenty of hands-on experiential learning activities, such as building a Solar Power Grid, Solar Car, and Sun Tracker—to name a few! We’ll end the class with a Solar Car Race! Theater Production Workshop The Children’s Theatre Company and Breck Summer Programs are teaming up to put on quite the production! Through a combination of storytelling, creative writing, and theater arts exercises, campers will explore the art of story and set design. Campers will work together to create a script and design a set to put on their very own show. Campers will learn lines, create props and costumes, and bring their production to life to be shared anew with families on the final day of the session for a performance in Breck’s Cargill Theater. These camps will focus on skill development through drills that will enhance the fundamentals and knowledge of the sport. MS Sports Camps will incorporate small area games and scrimmages throughout the two-week session.

Lower School Sports Camp • For students entering 1st through 6th grades • Acquire and fine-tune fundamental skills • Practice and play every day • From novice to experienced

Summer is the time to acquire and fine-tune fundamental sport skills, and Sports Camp is the place to do it! You’ll spend time each morning from 8:30 to 10:15 am and 10:15 am to Noon dedicated to practice and play. Sports Camp is extended this year and is now offered to campers entering 1st through 6th grades. Sports Camp emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, fitness, and individual development. Drills and scrimmages help you improve skills as you explore the sport and develop a love for the game. Experienced leaders design Sports Camp sessions to meet the needs of different ages and skill levels for maximum participation. Our expanded program offers tennis, yoga, flag football, basketball, soccer, and floor hockey. Coaches experienced in the sport teach all programs.

• Tennis players take advantage of both our indoor and outdoor tennis courts. • Flag football and soccer players play on our professional turf fields. • Basketball and floor hockey players will get to experience our amazing gyms and fieldhouse. • Having a Ball: Can’t decide on one sport? Join us as we spend the session playing anything from kickball to tee ball, basketball to Medic! You’re guaranteed to “have a ball!” in this course! Camp Club: Extended Care • For students entering preschool through 8th grades • Extra care before and after regular camp hours Morning Hours: 7:30-8:30 am Afternoon Hours: 3:30-5:30 pm Breck Summer Programs offers care before and after camp. Like all camp courses, campers must enroll in the full session to participate in Camp Club. Sessions 1, 2, 3 AM Only $60 | PM Only $140 | AM and PM $175

Policies and Regulations A completed application for each camper with full deposit is necessary to process a camperâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s registration. Registrations are accepted starting January 22, 2019. Register for Breck Summer Programs at breckschool.org/summer-programs before Saturday, June 1, 2019.

No refunds will be given due to student absences. No refunds will be given for lost days due to unforeseen acts of nature or environment. In the event that Breck School is unable to operate (e.g., loss of electricity, fire or other disaster), Breck Summer Program participants will be notified via email.

Courses and programs are filled on a first-come, firstserved basis, so early registration is encouraged. A $25 late fee will apply to students registering after June 1, 2019. Deposits A deposit of $75 per course is required with registration. This includes a $50 non-refundable and non-transferable processing fee. $25 per course (of the deposit) is refundable until March 14, 2019. After March 15, 2019, no refunds will be given on deposits for courses registered. Cancellation Policy On a few occasions we do not have enough students enrolled to hold a particular course or program. Breck Summer Programs refunds all tuition for any course or program that we cancel. If your plans change and you need to cancel your registration prior to March 14, 2019, the deposit less a $50 processing fee per course is refundable. If cancellation occurs between March 15, 2019-April 15, 2019, 50% of tuition is non-refundable. If cancellation occurs between March 16, 2019-May 1, 2019, 35% of tuition is non-refundable. Payment is due in full on May 1, 2019. No refunds will be issued in the event of a withdrawal from any summer program after May 1, 2019, to ensure staffing and programmatic commitments to all families. Phone cancellations are not accepted. Cancellations must be given in writing to the Summer Programs Director.
