CINEBALU ON-LINE: SABAH’S FIRST ON-LINE FILM FESTIVAL

Kota Kinabalu, 16 August 2020 - This is the 11th year of the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) and for the first time, in response to the current world situation, the KKIFF2020 made the exciting decision to screen its movies on-line – setting up Sabah’s first on-line film festival called CINEBALU ON-LINE. The festival will be held from 9-13 September, with a total of 21 movies available for viewing. Participants will need to pay RM15 to register for a KKIFF account and this one-off payment will open up a wonderful world of films to them. The programme includes three short films by Sabahans and a variety of other shorts from Hong Kong, Vietnam and Indonesia. The Freedom Film Fest is collaborating with the KKIFF and has contributed three shorts. There are also 11 feature-length films from around the world: Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Laos, as well as New Zealand, Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Portugal and Germany. There will also be 5 webinars from 10-13 September, covering topics to do with the environment, independent film-making in Malaysia, horror movies and indigenous cinema. All the webinars will be free to view online. Two of the webinars will be in collaboration with the Borneo Eco Film Festival and the Freedom Film Fest. UOB MALAYSIA LAUNCHES THE 2020 UOB PAINTING OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

Kuala Lumpur, 20 August 2020 – United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Berhad (UOB Malaysia) today announced that artists in Malaysia will be able to submit their entries for the 2020 UOB Painting of the Year (Malaysia) competition digitally given the COVID-19 restrictions. The annual UOB Painting of the Year competition is one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious annual art awards. The competition aims to uncover and to nurture artistic talent across the country. This year, UOB Malaysia is inviting emerging and established artists to share their impressions on the theme of ‘Solidarity’ and the importance of staying united in the face of adversity. The Bank hopes to draw out artwork that showcases the resilience of the human spirit in overcoming COVID19-related challenges. Submission closes at 11.59pm on 11 October 2020. The winner will walk away with RM100,000 and stand a chance to compete for the prestigious UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year award in Singapore (worth an additional US$10,000) as well as win a one-month residency programme at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan.
