Artificial Intelligence (AI), or machine learning, is a type of software that makes it possible for machines to learn from its own experiences, or adjust itself from new information or inputs. Most importantly, it enables machines to complete human-like tasks that they are programmed to do.
These machines are trained to help us complete specific tasks by retaining and processing large amounts of information, and recognizing patterns in said information. They are being used in health care, retail sectors, banking, and manufacturing. AI capabilities are of high demand to these industries for question answering systems, patent searches, risk notification, and medical researches.
From chess-playing computers to self-driving cars, these are just a few examples of AI in our world. One of the cooler and cuter examples is a small robot called Vector made by Anki. With Alexa built-in to it, it helps handle day-to-day tasks like scheduling appointments, answering questions, and providing important information you need to start the day. Apart from that, it’s also a fun companion to have around the house or room as you can play games with it. by Noel Jinguli In movies though, AI have somewhat of a bad reputation. Just look at movies like The Terminator or War Games, AI are portrayed as the antagonist trying to kill the protagonist or even destroy the world. It’s safe to say that the AI we have today aren’t as aggressive as the ones in the movies. So you won’t have to worry about the machines taking over the world, yet.
AI doesn’t have to exist in movies or something like the Vector too. It’s all already in the palm of your hands now. We take for granted our smartphones and laptops when some type of AI is already implemented in them. With machine learning, they’re able to provide us with news and information based on the topics we’ve searched for.
At the end of the day, the AI that’s around us today are all very important in helping us accomplish major or mundane tasks. It’s both good and bad that we underestimate it, the AI is working as it was programmed but our complacency could spell the end of
our independence of searching for answers. Images | Unsplash

Convene House, such an apt name for a little cafe unknowingly located inside the family owned Winner Hotel in Kampung Air. Yvonne and Vivien, partners of this little nook; a place where they aspire for people and families to come together drinking coffee and especially hand-picked teas from Taiwan and China. Their desserts are out of this world. If you crave something tart-y, the lemon tart will innately satisfy it; cinchai pie will just blow your mind with its luscious flavour. The tofu cake is a definite surprise and equally as mouth-watering are the citrus Madeleines and Sacher cake. Convene’s most prized sandwich is the elevated version of the local polo bun; constructed into a marvellous sandwich with chef ’s secret sauce. Pair these treats with their aesthetically oriental-chic cups of piccolo or specially brewed H+M (Houjicha+Matcha) which is a must have on every table or if you prefer teas, then try the Dong Ding Oolong.
