Pre-registration is required at TheBreman.org. Attendance is limited RSVP early to attend. The workshops are for families with children ages 8 and older, adults and seniors are also invited to create and interact with the artists. July 10 | 11:30 - 12:30 pm | Featured Artist Randy Taylor| RECREATING NATURE IN ART Bio: Since the 70’s, Randy Taylor has provided visual art in Atlanta as an illustrator, painter, and image maker. Taylor was education curator for the Museum of Design and a teaching artist for Young Audiences, High Museum of Art, Carlos Museum, Fox Theater, Georgia Council for the Arts, Children’s Museum of Atlanta, and Fulton County Arts Council.
Project Description
The Otami People of Mexico have healers called curanderos, that create healing books. These accordion fold books are made out of amate, pounded bark paper, filled with cutouts that represent healing rituals. We will brainstorm ideas of things that we can do to assist in the healing of planet earth, create symbolic cutouts and attach the cutouts to an accordion book. The healing book will be comprised of paper cutouts of wishes and actions to assist the planet in its health. RSVP Here to get your supply list

July 10 | 11:30 - 12:30 pm | Featured Artist Randy Taylor| RECREATING NATURE IN ART After a group discussion where ideas will be shared, we will create an accordion fold book for healing our planet. The pages will be comprised of paper cutouts depicting images of healing thoughts, prayers and blessings to go out to our planet Earth.

• Cereal box or poster board • Construction paper or copy paper of various colors, or grocery paper bags • Fine tip markers, colored pencils or crayons • String, ribbon, or yarn – one piece16” • Masking tape or transparent tape • Scissors • Glue stick and white glue

STUDIOEARTHJULY2020 July 17 | 11:30 - 12:30 pm |Featured Artist Damon Young | SHADOW PUPPET WORKSHOP Bio: Damon Young, Theater Arts and Puppets (TAP) founder, is the Lead Teaching Artist at the Center for Puppetry Arts, and a Teaching Artist for the Georgia Council for the Arts and Fulton County School’s Teaching Museum. Damon designs and directs puppetry performances and is a performing musician across the USA and Canada. www.shadowpuppettheater.com
Project Description
Mr. Damon will guide participants as they create their own shadow puppets, focusing on the grassland ecosystem and brainstorming about other Biome elements such as plants and water sources. Participants will make mouse and lion shadow puppets, cutting out a template, provided as a PDF, with a supply list sent to those who register. Participants will make puppets come alive and move the attached sticks with hand motions, while learning concepts including biodiversity, interdependence, food webs and pollution. July 24 | 11:30 - 12:30 pm | Featured Artist Shoshanna Rosenthal | ENVIRONMENT MESSAGE SCULPTURES Bio: Education Artist in residence for Temple Sinai, Shoshanna Rosenthal develops the art curriculum, workshops and special programs. Rosenthal is the art specialist for In the City Camps and Age Well Atlanta. Rosenthal specializes in mixed media and custom sculptures with Kabbalistic and Jewish themes.
Project Description This workshop brings awareness to sea turtles, one of our endangered species. Sea turtles are the ultimate ecological lesson, showing that everything is connected. In this workshop, children, parents and siblings can enjoy honoring the sea turtle by creating a sea turtle sculpture using air dry clay, to create texture and design that can be incorporated into a 3D sea turtle seascape. The clay can be made at home with a simple recipe using flour, salt and water and the recipe will be part of the supply list included with registration for the workshop. Supply List Sea turtles demonstrate the ultimate lesson of ecology that everything is connected, but many of them are endangered.We will talk about the super hero sea turtles while honoring them by creating clay models with fun textures. Supply list 1 piece of cardboard for work surface 1 detail and scratch tool (bamboo skewer, tooth pick, sharpened pencil) 1 small bowl of water old toothbrush (not needed with salt/flour clay) a tennis shoe with textured pattern on the bottom (or an interesting texture) Air dry modeling clay (any brand including homemade. July 31 | 11:30 - 12:30 pm | Featured Artist Flora Rosefsky | MOTHER EARTH FIGURINES Bio: Known for her collage and mixed media work, Flora is a teaching artist who designs and coordinates community quilts for public institutions, and creates Jewish ritual works for synagogues. Flora leads workshops for cultural centers, museums, synagogues, schools and libraries.
Project Description Workshop supplies can be recycled materials and found objects, large fabric scraps, ribbon, string, and newspaper to create a Mother Earth figurine. No sewing is required. Start with rolled up newspaper to be the support for the figure. Then add layers of materials, attaching them with string or yarn. Arms are made using more fabric and string. How Mother Earth’s clothing evolves depends on what fabrics and materials are selected. Add a scarf, a hat and a piece of found jewelry as a final embellishment. The completed Mother Earth can be a 3-D folk art work of art to enjoy at home, as a reminder to appreciate and care for our world. RSVP Here to get your supply list

Supply List
Makes one figurine. Adult is encouraged to create the art with the child. If more than one child, cut more fabric and have more supplies as needed. Adult can help with tying knots. Fabric scissor and one other scissor (FISKER brand is good). Paper -1 sheet 24” x18” (for newspaper) or 20”x20” for other paper. Newspaper (one large folded out page), gift wrap paper, shelf paper Ruler or tape measure Knitting yarn, string – 8 feet or more or skein of any color yarn, spool of string are good Assorted trims, ribbons, lace, tulle – any amount Fabric ––cotton or cotton blend fabric, T-shirt, pajamas, curtain, other recycled cotton material *If you have time, precut fabric to measurements below to make one Mother Earth. Multiply for more figurines. Fabrics can be cut during the workshop but doing it before gives more time to create. Better to have more fabric so you have more fun deciding how to dress up your “Mother Earth”! • • • • •

TERRA inFirma
TERRA inFIRMA, is an art exhibition from June 2019, curated by and installed in the Dr. Bernard Heller Museum, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, New York. TERRA inFIRMA includes the work of more than 60 artists working in many media, showing the fierce beauty of the natural world and what’s at stake. The works are both realistic and abstract, and include photographs, tapestry, cartoons, collages and paintings. Collectively, they sound an alarm to save the planet. TERRA inFIRMA will be displayed online at TheBreman.org opening Late July 2020.
