Mrs. Elsie Moore ... one of Notre Dame's finest since January, 1980! Mrs. Moore has been an important part of the Notre Dame family for many years, and she has touched the lives of many through her commitment to both teaching and her students. Her passion for teaching is obvious every day, and she inspires her students to learn and be the best they can be. She is famous for making her students create a ''Kinesiology Bible". Although tedious, it teaches organization, attention to detait note taking, responsibility, hard work, and how to study- all important life skills that help her students be better students. She goes the extra mile to make sure everyone completely understands, and also enjoys, the material. Her class demanded a lot of work but she made it fun, memorable, engaging and relative by exposing us to dissections, real x-rays, the "spandex exercise", and specific connections to our individual lives. She does whatever she can for her students and always has time when they need extra help. She has great compassion for her students as people, too, and takes time to get to know each of them. She also supports students in their extracurricular activities. It is no wonder that whenever she is mentioned, the usual response is "I LOVE her!" or "She is the BEST!" Her class was always the best part of my day, she helped me find my academic and career interest. In four years, she was my best teacher! Fresh Start: 9th Grade At a Glance By Lynn Oseguera The Voice Staff Writer Every year there is a new freshman class, a new class to chant "Go home freshmen!" to during pep rallies, a new class to get in the way in the already crowded hallways, a new class to come into high school with unique expectations. This year, it was my tum to be part of that incoming class and, as my first semester at Notre Dame came to a close, I reflected upon my first impressions. I came here from a relatively small school with only 23 students in my graduating class, so it was a dramatic, and slightly traumatic, experience to be part of such a large community where I only knew a few people. Gradually, I began to recognize faces and classrooms and hallways and schedules and started to figure out the key to entering high school. It turns out it is all about fmding where you belong. Not everyone enters high school thinking it is going to be the time of their life, and for some it is not and for some it is. I have always been more of a pessimist and never really looked forward to it, but now that I am here, I have realized that it is okay. Everyone experiences high school differently, especially in those first few weeks. Some people make a ton of new friends and join a ton of exciting clubs and enjoy pep rallies and football games while some people are not so good at talking with people and focus on adapting to a new curriculum and environment. It does not really matter if you get over 1,000 Facebook "friends", or if you just find a few good friends you can really talk to, or even if you are still working on finding your place. Everyone adapts differently and that is fine. In fact, that actually makes finding who you want to be easier. Let's face it, we do not all have the same personalities and ambitions and that is what makes it possible for everyone to contribute to this community in unique ways. If you do want to make more friends , I probably am not the best person to give advice. But I've found that by joining sports or clubs you are bound to fmd at least one person who shares common interests with you and you get along with. If you are not socially involved, sometimes the bravest thing you can ever do is just walk up to someone and say hello. It can be really scary and you may not find you are perfectly compatible with every person, but you never know who you might meet. That is the funny thing about high school: some people will be friends with practically everybody and some will not, but everyone will fmd their place.

With either a grin or just grim determination, all of us freshmen will manage to navigate our way through the halls and may even bump into someone who will leave a lasting mark and be a shoulder to lean on when things get hard and be someone to chat with and laugh with later than you should on a school night.

ND Wins Mercer County Service Award By Grant Wagner The Voice Staff Writer

Once again, ND has been recognized for serving its community, this time by receiving the "Heavyweight Award" for donating over two thousand pounds of food to Mercer Street Friends Food Bank in the Million Pound Challenge. Notre Dame students stepped up to the Million Pound Challenge sponsored by food banks all over the state and contributed over two thousand pounds of food to Mercer Street Friends Food Bank in addition matching amounts donated through our partnerships with local charities. The chail_enge oegan ast Fall. Notre Dame is honored to be known as the Division 5 "Heavyweight Award" recipients.

In addition to donating, students also volunteer at the food bank each month. The cheerleaders, sports teams and .religion classes all worked together to reach this goal and.make a.difference in the community.

Special Olympics Club - worked with special athletes, provided trainingt and prepared sports activities for interaction with special children in local schools.

Each year, the Notre Dame Cheerleading Team hosts the annual ND Pink Out during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Through Pink Out tee-shirts sales and other donations, the Notre Dame community raised an amazing amount for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. Their fundraising efforts totaled $2,500. A check was presented to Anthony Cimino, President and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton.

"We are thrilled at we are able to share the spirit of giving from our endeavors at last fall's Pink Out. Our goal is to help those in our community and increase breast cancer awareness." (Ms. Wargo, ND Cheerleading Coach)

Polar Plunge The Polar Plunge for Catholic Education took place in Sea Bright, New Jersey on Sunday, January 13, 2013. The event raised money for a fund that will be available for emergency assistance to students whose families experience a crisis, causing a financial hardship that prevents them from fulfilling their financial obligations to the school. The fund is named in honor of Mrs. Jean McGraw, beloved Social Studies teacher, who retired last year.
