Notre Dame High School ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015

Transform trans-fôrm’ vb. 1.to change in character, nature or condition
Our Cover Two years ago, our Annual Report cover displayed a
picture of a drop of water entering a pool. That drop sent out concentric waves that rippled and reached from the center to the shore, moving and lifting all in its path. It bore the title, “IMPACT” and symbolized the power that each singular investment you make has upon Notre Dame High School. This year’s cover, “TRANSFORM,” revisits that image. But now, emerging in the splash from the embrace of its watery cocoon, we can see what appears to be a butterfly, excited by the world it has been born into and ready to take flight. Like the drop that comes from each of your investments, it too is a beautiful symbol, not only of the transformation of our graduates, but also of the growth and change we are witnessing within our school each day. Impacted by your support and transformed by the impact , we too are ready to fly and become all that our God asks us to be.
Letter from the President and Principal Dear Friends of Notre Dame High School, As we looked down at the graduating Class of ’15 from our place on the stage of the Sun Center last June, we remembered another day, some four years previously, when we also stood on a stage facing these same young people at their Freshman Orientation. They looked so small to us then: children who were self-conscious, frightened and awkward, untested and unsure. Now, as they prepared to leave Notre Dame, it occurred to us that something near miraculous had happened under our watch. What sat before us in a sea of blue and white gowns that graduation morning were beautiful young men and women who were poised and ready to take the next step on their journey. They had become comfortable with themselves and the bodies and voices they had grown into. They had a moral compass. Those at the podium spoke poignantly and thoughtfully about their world and their responsibilities to lead and serve the needs of others. The afternoon before, their baccalaureate songs, their presentation of gifts and their respectful attention to the beauty of their graduation liturgy had given rich testimony to the faith in which they were grounded. They were whole, somehow. Each seemed to have accepted gratefully God’s love and each seemed ready to heed His commandment to go out and love and serve one another. They had been transformed. They had eaten at the table of our liturgies. They had found the joy of giving through our Christian Service Program. They had opened their souls to their friends and their God at the Kairos Senior Retreat. They had been beaten down and lifted up on our athletic fields and performing arts stages and had survived the academic rigors and pressures in our classrooms. They had been embraced by the values of our faith that permeate our curriculum and infuse our culture and had truly come to know themselves here. And, assisted by all this, along with the love of their parents and the grace of God, they had transformed themselves and were now poised and ready for the next step in their life journey. Our theme for this year’s Annual Report is “Transform.” Yes, each year we are proud witnesses to our students’ transformation. But, as an institution, we are also in the process of transforming as we grow into ourselves and as we grow with the times. Over time, we have transformed from the neighborhood comprehensive high school we were at our origin in 1957 to become a widely respected and highly successful regional and even global college prep school, sending 99% of our graduates on to higher education each year. Our transformation can be amply evidenced within the pages of this report and is the direct result of investments. Investments in our academic programs have enabled us to make extensive technology improvements, add advanced courses in the humanities and sciences, and provide more diverse teaching and learning techniques. Investments in our athletic programs have allowed us to grow in options and success. Investments in the arts have enriched our programs and continue to keep us in the forefront of our peers. Investments in financial aid have helped to keep our enrollment strong and socio-economically diverse. Investments in the facility have allowed us to keep our campus vital and beautiful. We made those investments allowing us to grow through the resources our alumni, parents, grandparents, staff and friends have provided. We grew because you never stopped believing in us. And now, transformed as our students are transformed, we are ready and willing to continue to be proud teachers of the faith and strong leaders in the world of education. We have dreams and plans for the future and believe we are poised on the brink of a new tomorrow for Notre Dame; ready to take our place as the undisputed number one school of choice for people of faith in the region. We thank you for bringing us this far. Please join us on our continuing journey to the stars.
Sincerely,
Barry Edward Breen, President Notre Dame High School

Faculty, Staff and Administrators
Notre Dame is extremely proud of its faculty, staff and administrators. Their dedication, support and commitment to our students are extraordinary. We are blessed by their efforts each day. This past year, 79 Notre Dame employees with 90 gifts contributed $28,348 to our Annual Fund Campaign – a true testament to the belief they have in NDHS and its advancement initiatives. We greatly appreciate their monetary contributions. For all that they continue to do in their classrooms and beyond, we say, “thank you.” Anonymous Roberta Anderson John and Jennifer Antinoro Meghan Apriceno John Archer Cindy Bannon Joanna Barlow Isabel Berko * Leonard and Deborah Berzinski > Barry Edward Breen > Ann Shelly `74 Brown > Kevin Callahan Julie Campo Anna Carella
