Director’s Message If you are like me, life lessons & priorities are most meaningful when they are modeled lived out. Each day,…every day. You know the old adage “Actions speak louder than words”… There is a couple in town,…you probably know them too. Not long ago, they started a family business here. They are truly a delight. Every time I see them, I am better for it. In spite of the difficult economy, their business is doing well. They are: POSITIVE & PASSIONATE: Like all of us, they have difficult issues - of that I am sure. But, they always rise above,…they persist. They care. A warm greeting is always given. I am appreciated. GENUINE & TRUSTWORTHY: What they say,… they’ll do. What you see is what you get. Nothing hidden,…rock solid. HARDWORKING & HONEST: Each day,… they start early,… work hard,…usually stay late. Each day is a gift,…lived well. Their employees are an excellent bunch,…Led by example. ROOTED: They came to stay. Most of us aren’t aware of how many ways they support our town – schools, teams, families, individuals in need… They just do it. I’d like to be more like that. Hey…If you see them tomorrow, …or the next day,…or next week; Please do me a favor. Thank them for me. Because of them (and people like them),… Life is better. Ambassador's Corner Hi Brentwood, this is the City that we call home. We have lived in Brentwood 18 plus years and moved from Oakley before that. So we can say that we have been part of the community for close to 30 years. Our three children grew up here, went to school here from Dainty Center to Garin, Edna Hill, the two girls Bristow and Liberty and D.J. Heritage. We are soon to be empty nesters, wow that’s hard to say. Thank God for grandbabies. I am one of the newest ambassadors and we are part of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce with both of our Businesses. We own Maxx Worms; we grow red wiggler worms for composting, or in your yard, fishing bait, and specialty pet food. We also have two other products: vermipost and worm juice (no you don’t drink it). Vermipost is the product the worms make from their waste and is a fantastic natural fertilizer. It is dry and can be worked into the soil, or sprinkled around your plants. Worm juice is also a natural product, it is the liquid that comes through the worm beds and through the vermipost, and it can be mixed with water and used on all your plants. It’s nice to have a company that has such a positive effect on our environment and is fun as well. Our second company is a family business, and our newest business, our daughter Ashley works with us. Maxx Imprints, we started approximately 6 months ago and are really enjoying the challenge, and the change of pace. Maxx Imprints is an imprinting company that has no minimum orders and we are able to do all our imprinting here in Brentwood. We cater to the small business owners that cannot, or do not want to order 500 to 1000 pens or letter openers etc. for promotional items. We can do very small orders and keep supplying you as you need more. Along with both businesses I am a member of DNP (Delta Networking Partners) and a Chamber Ambassador. We were always involved with the community with sports and schools, now as we are opening a new chapter of our lives we are looking forward to being a part of the local business community, along with helping and volunteering wherever we can. I have been to quite a few of the mixers and Ribbon Cuttings with the Chamber and look forward to many more, when you are there PLEASE come by and say Hi. Look forward to meeting many, many more new members and people in the community. Kathi Regan Maxx Imprints Maxx Worms

CalChamber-Supported Identity Theft Bill Signed by Governor (August 13, 2010) A California Chamber of Commerce-supported bill that reinforces the importance of punishing identity thieves and the seriousness of this crime was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger late last month. The bill, SB 1087 (Alquist; D-Santa Clara), requires persons convicted of identity theft to pay restitution to victims for cost of credit monitoring for a reasonable time and for economic losses. Identity theft continues to top the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) list of consumer complaints. According to the FTC, 8.1 million U.S. residents were victims of identity theft in 2007, with a total cost of about $45 billion. Victims spend many hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars clearing up their records and their lives. Businesses also suffer from identity theft when their name is stolen and used illegally and also when their employees are victims, subsequently needing time off to clear up their personal records. The CalChamber believes that vigorous investigation, arrest and prosecution of identity thieves will slow the growing threat of this crime. Support Staff Contact: Valerie Nera

Downtown Brentwood Thursday Night
The last Downtown Thursday was a blast. Thank You for all the participation in making this event the biggest one of the Year. We all had a joy dunking Mayor Bob Taylor, Susanne Larson of His & Hers, and Paul Kelly of Home One Mortgage. The Downtown was able to raise $200 to get Susanne up on the Dunk Tank seat.
The Downtown Coalition and Brentwood Chamber would like to Thank Donna Pace and family for all their hard work and dedication to the Downtown Thursday Events. We hope to see her back next year.
