Welcome...

Human Flow

... to a fantastic new season of films!

Due to a packed autumn season we were not able to screen everything we would have liked, but now that the festivities are all wrapped up, we are delighted to offer a selection of films that we know will engage and delight our audiences. What better way to start the New Year than with The Party (3 & 4 Jan) from veteran director Sally Potter! Call Me by Your Name (5 - 8 Jan), The Disaster Artist (5 - 8 Jan), Wonder (13 - 18 Jan) and Mountain (28 & 30 Jan) all feature, and back by popular demand, Loving Vincent (12 - 14 Jan). We welcome two directors to introduce their films this season: Daniel Coll with Last Laugh based on the play by John Godber, and Alex Barrett with London Symphony. We are excited to welcome back members of South Lakes Action on Climate Change (SLACC) and Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) at a couple of environmentally topical film screenings. Amnesty International will also be in attendance to lead a discussion at a one-off screening of the powerful and moving documentary: Human Flow (29 Jan) from the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. In March, SLACC and CAfS will be joined by the Land Workers Alliance at a screening of the agricultural documentary In Our Hands (12 Mar).

Journey’s End

I, Tonya

The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme returns to the Brewery Cinema in February and March, with a selection of six films based loosely on the theme ‘secrets and lies’. Three of our films will be screened in the Warehouse and served up with traditional Japanese food to immerse you in Japanese culture for the evening. As a big fan of director Takashi Miike, I can’t wait to see The Mole Song: Undercover Agent Reiji; it looks completely and utterly bonkers! We bring you a selection of films chosen by ‘Generation K’, the Brewery’s new Young Film Programmers Group, curated in conjunction with the BFI’s Film Audience Network. The group have chosen films based on the theme ‘Coming of Age’. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Moonlight again on the big screen – which coincidentally is being shown on OSCAR night (4 Mar). See our brand new website for listings, ticket prices and information on all the films in this programme, and be sure to experience something different at the Brewery Cinema!
