NEW! Curtis Eller’s American Circus - Fri 8 Sep
Direct from North Carolina, Curtis Eller’s American Circus will be rolling into Kendal for a barnstorming, banjo-driven night of Americana. The Circus have developed a devoted international following thanks to their dynamic, unhinged live performances on festival stages on both sides of the Atlantic. Skerryvore are a young Scottish folk/ rock band who have been earning critical acclaim for their raw and driving brand of traditional Celtic music. Their appearance in the Malt Room is part of a major tour of Europe and North America.

Hold onto your hats! Another circus is coming to town! The Electric Swing Circus is a six-piece fusion of saucy 20’s swing and stomping electro beats. With an explosive sound that reverberates back through time, the ESC hotfoot their way through everything from, rock to electronica, house and big beat, all with their own unique style. Accordionist and BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year Andy Cutting is a firm Brewery favourite having performed here many times over the years with the likes of John McCusker. He’s back in the autumn, with new collaboration Leveret, alongside top concertina player Rob Habron and fiddler Sam Sweeney. ‘Leveret – it means young hare – is the finest of traditional English folk today: a trio of poise and subtle gesture, of deft layering, graceful swing and gorgeous understatement’ The Guardian NEW! Matthew E White - Sun 22 Oct
American singer-songwriter, and founder of Spacebomb Records, Matthew E. White is currently completing work on his new album and he’s joining us on Sun 22 Oct. As part of the new album, Matthew is taking time out to embark on a tour of smaller venues across the UK to share and try out some of his works-in-progress alongside familiar material. A rare opportunity to gain unique insight into the song writing process of a top artist. The Furrow Collective is a mouthwatering folk collaboration between Alasdair Roberts, Emily Portman, Lucy Farrell and Rachel Newton. The group scooped the Best Band prize at this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and two nominations for Best Traditional Track and Folk Singer Of The Year for Emily’s vocals, at the event in 2016.

The album is a BBC 6 Music favourite and earned them a live session with Lauren Laverne. The album hit the Top 10 in the iTunes Hip Hop Charts and their appearance is part of a special tour to reach towns off the beaten track. Another hip hop collective is The Mouse Outfit, a production team from Manchester. The live show is fronted by Sparkz and Dr Syntax and features a 9 piece live band which has toured throughout the UK and Europe. ‘The moment the Mouse Outfit announced they had a new album dropping, there was an almost audible breath in from the hip hop community in Manchester’ Pete Obsolete Wordplay: UK Hip Hop UK Graffiti Culture Magazine

Theatre fans who like their Gothic horror stories with more than a hint of humour will love Dracula: The Bloody Truth, a hilarious new show giving a physical theatre twist to Bram Stoker’s nefarious literary leech! Le Navet Bete will be leading a jocular, nay jugular journey across Europe with Van Helsing and a host of madcap characters!
Mobile - Sat 9 & Sun 10 Sep

Lady Windermere’s Fan - Thu 23 Nov
Hansel & Gretel - Thu 2 Nov
Smoking Apples Theatre Company have carved an award-winning reputation for the innovative use of puppetry in their live shows. Their new play, In Our Hands follows the life of an ‘old-school’ trawlerman as he struggles to adapt to the changes the modern world is forcing on the traditional way of life he loves. Literature lovers will be able to ‘get their teeth into’ two very different adaptations of classic works. Northumberland Theatre Company will be performing a new version of Barnaby Rudge, Charles Dickens’s vivid portrait of London’s descent into anarchy, where ‘the mob’ rules the streets, and innocent lives are swept up in the chaos.
Ever fancied a night at the opera but been dissuaded by the thought of having to learn Italian and a high-society accent? Pop Up Opera are renowned in the genre for making this high-brow art form accessible and engaging for the uninitiated. Magical and dark, Hansel & Gretel is perhaps the most popular operatic fairy tale of them all. Wolves are Coming For You is a new comedy from Olivier-nominated playwright Joel Horwood. It depicts a village’s shock reaction to the reintroduction of wolves into the surrounding countryside. Can they come to terms with the presence of the primal carnivores in their midst? The contemporary collides with the classic when Theatrical Niche grab Oscar Wilde’s raucous social comedy, Lady Windermere’s Fan, by the scruff of the neck and drag it kicking and screaming into the 21st century. As winter descends, we dim the lights for The Book of Darkness & Light, a chilling night of ghost stories and spoken word accompanied by the haunting strains of the violin.

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Will Eisner: a giant in the field of comic art.
David will be presenting his most recent oil paintings which have been informed by visits to Alaska and Iceland. David said of his work: “The ice landscape is full of paradoxes: shrinking alarmingly and yet beautiful, in motion yet seemingly still.
Alex is a printmaker who is inspired by the idea of forests as ambiguous, anonymous places. He uses a range of printmaking techniques and materials to create multi-layered, fragmented and dense images which entice the viewer in. Work from the exhibition will also be on display in the Intro Bar Gallery.
The exhibition features key images from throughout the artist’s long career: rare surviving pages from 1930s comic books, World War 2 posters, and main sequences from his groundbreaking graphic novel, Spirit. Presented in conjunction with the Lakes International Comic Art Festival.

The sense of energy in a glacier is overwhelming and there is no term of reference as to scale or distance. It is ineffable and quite possibly unpaintable”. Presented in conjunction with the Kendal Mountain Festival.

The Brewery Christmas show
18 - 31 December Showings at 10.30am & 2.00pm, check website for daily times A small figure sets off, with red cloak and hood to grandma’s they go, the other side of the woods Do not stop to smell the flowers, or sing to the birds or climb a tall tree, remember these words… Do not leave the path, for you’d make a tasty treat! For the hungriest wolf of all, who is ready to eat! Join us this Christmas for a bold, imaginative and highly theatrical re-telling of the well-known classic tale packed with music, dance and song.
