The Year of Evangelism
Less than 5% of believers ever share their faith Does this statistic shock us? Does this statistic break our hearts? How could it be that 95% of people who identify themselves as believers don’t ever share their faith? At Colorado Christian University we are driven by this statistic because of our passionate pursuit of Jesus Christ. As a university, we exist to produce graduates who think critically, live faithfully, and effectively impact their spheres of influence. As the only member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities in Colorado, CCU is uniquely positioned to challenge students to move beyond the 5%, and become a force who passionately share the story of what Jesus has done in their lives.
5% is not good enough We are surrounded by people desperate to find hope, forgiveness, and peace. Our culture is seeking answers and it is time for the followers of Christ to fulfill the Great Commission by taking seriously the responsibility to reach our friends and family for Jesus Christ.
The Year of Evangelism The 2010-2011 academic year has been dubbed the “Year of Evangelism” at Colorado Christian University. More than a theme, the Year of Evangelism will be a comprehensive part Believers who of campus life. As President Bill Believers who share never share “We will call every Armstrong relates the vision: their faith their faith “We will call every student, student, faculty and faculty and staff member to share their faith and staff member equip them to do so.” to share their faith
and equip them to do so.” —Bill Armstrong
Evangelism has been a part of CCU for years. However, this year will be a year in which we purposefully light a fire in the hearts of students, faculty, and staff to intentionally share their relationship with Jesus in their spheres of influence.
The Year of Evangelism will include in-depth training, theological training, and practical opportunities for each student, faculty and staff member to live out what it means to follow Jesus Christ by introducing others to a relationship with Him.
A Movement of Evangelism CCU is in a unique position to challenge and serve the Body of Christ across the state of Colorado. We believe so many will be challenged and captured by this vision that the ultimate goal would be to give every person in Colorado an opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Like a ripple from a stone thrown into a lake, CCU will focus on training its students in evangelistic methods, and deploying them in outreach focused throughout the state of Colorado.
ccu
A At the same time, CCU hopes to catalyze c churches, para church ministries, and n numerous followers of Christ across tthe state to be actively engaged in e evangelism over the course of the next y year. JJust imagine what could happen if the B Body of Christ residing in Colorado spent a an entire year intentionally reaching p people within their influence for Christ.
C CCU is not looking for financial support no nor for recognition. Instead, CCU seeks to spark a movement of evangelism in Co Colorado. To move beyond the 5% so that 10 100% of those who claim to be followers of Christ are not only trained to share their faith, but are actively doing so.
Leadership In the past few months, Lee Strobel and Mark Mittleberg have both relocated to the Denver metro area. From a Colorado home base, Lee and Mark will continue developing their evangelistic apologetics ministry through writing, speaking, and training. Both men have trained millions of Christians on how to share their faith through their books, DVDs, speaking engagements, and training seminars. CCU has formally agreed to partner with both Lee Strobel and Mark Mittleberg to not only train students, staff, and faculty in evangelism, but also to partner in training churches around the state of Colorado who decide to focus on evangelism. CCU Alum, Greg Stier has also agreed to partner in this movement. As President of the youth evangelism organization “Dare2Share”, Greg trains and equips hundreds of thousands of teenagers each year. The Dare2Share organization will play a key role in catalyzing The Year of Evangelism. Additionally, CCU has hired Brian Carlson to give day-to-day leadership to this effort. Most recently, Brian served as the Youth Pastor at Woodmen Valley Chapel, a church of over 7000 in Colorado Springs. Brian brings extensive experience as a pastor, missionary, Christian leader, ministry consultant, and Biblical teacher to his role at CCU.
Join in the Movement Colorado Christian University believes that we are being called to serve as catalysts to bring about a much larger evangelistic movement in Colorado. Because of our relationships with many churches, para church organizations, non-profit entities, charitable foundations, political leaders, alumni, parents, and friends, we believe that many of these organizations and individuals will join us in our prayers and efforts to share Christ with every person in Colorado.
The ultimate goal would be to give every person in Colorado an opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
We want to invite the Body of Christ living in the state of Colorado to move beyond the 5% and join CCU in a year intentionally focusing on evangelism. That churches and ministries across our great state would take time to train, equip, and launch people towards intentionally sharing Jesus Christ in their sphere’s of influence.
Again, CCU is not looking for financial support or recognition from churches or ministries. Instead, CCU desires to follow God’s call on this university to launch an evangelistic movement across Colorado. The question is, “How might your ministry get involved?”
Personalizing the Movement This Year of Evangelism Toolkit is designed like an app store. Why are app stores so popular? Because anyone with a cell or computer tablet can instantly download any application, tool, or resource that fits their unique lifestyle or business needs. We have designed this toolkit to be just that--an evangelism “app store” that allows you to instantly download any application, tool, or resources that fits the unique needs of your church or ministry.
This toolkit is like an evangelism “app store” that allows you to instantly download any application, tool, or resource that fits Some churches will join CCU in focusing on evangelism the unique needs of for an entire year. Some will join CCU in focusing on your church evangelism for one weekend. What an intentional focus or ministry. on evangelism looks like in your unique ministry will No two churches are the same. Each ministry environment has unique circumstances and cultural issues. This toolkit will help church and ministry leaders discover not only what intentionally focusing on evangelism might look like in their ministry, but also will give them applications, tools, and resources to help them do so.
depend on what your unique ministry looks like. What we’d invite you to do is to go through this Year of Evangelism Toolkit and create your own intentional plan by selecting specific “apps” to “download” to your ministry. Use this Guide to Create an Intentional Plan No two churches or ministries are the same. Each ministry has unique circumstances and environments that make that ministry distinctive. What one ministry implements to focus on evangelism will look completely different than another. Think of this Strategy Guide as a “home base” for the rest of this Evangelism Tool Kit. In a sense, this “app” is the culimination of all of the other resources and tools this kit offers. This guide will allow you to process through the other tools and practacally decide how and what you will implement. This Stragey guide will follow five steps to develop an effective strategy that fits your ministry environemnt. 1. Understand “As Is” Reality. 2. Caputure “Could Be” Dreams. 3. Implementing Your Strategy
Use this Guide to Create An Implementation Strategy Too often amazing strategies for ministry fail, not because the strategy is poor, but because the execution of that strategy is poor. Often, ministries are excited about a new vision or opportunity, but the pressures of ministry (and the fact that the weekend service is always less than seven days away) leads to amazing strategies being lost in the fog of the daily grind. Many times vast time is spent developing strategies, but little time is spent on designing how that strategy will be launched. Ministry leaders know their strategies and goals, however they strugle to translate the theory and action plans that will build an effectivive and sustainable ministry. This guide, is help clarify and design a strategy to effectively launch an intentional focus on evangelism in your ministry. It will lead you through ďŹ ve launch phases: 1) Paint the Vision 2) Train the People 3) Launch the Cause 4) Stoke the Fire 5) Measure Results.

Train the People Often people have a heart to see their lost friends and family come to Jesus, but feel they lack the skills and knowledge necessary to do so. People will not share their faith unless they are equipped to do so. After you have painted the vision in your ministry for evangelism, you must plan how you will launch the practical training to equip your people to reach people for Christ. Use this worksheet to strategies how you will launch the equipping of your people.
Use other sheets or larger sheets if necessary. Training Launch Ideas The way training is launched often determines the effectiveness of the campaign. If people’s hearts are gripped by a vision, yet there is not a practical training program to equip them the vision will loose its momentum. Again, visions fail not because of bad strategy, but because of bad execution. Launching your vision with training is equiping your people to execute the vision. Read through the following idea starters to launch an intentional focus in a ministry. After reading the idea, write down what you like it about it, what you don’t like about it, and what you could take from the idea to design your own launch vehicle. On the last form write out how your ministry will launch training your people with practical skills to share their relationship with Jesus.

Challenge people in your ministry to post one thing about their relationship with Jesus on their Facebook page per day for all their friends to see.
Instead of holding a “harvest party” at church. Challenge your people to participate in Halloween in the neighborhoods by transforming their garage into a living room. Challenge them to clean out their garage, set up chairs or couches a set up hot cocoa, hot apple cider, and the best candy in the neighborhood for kids. Invite everyone passing by (including parents in to enjoy a warm quick break. Create an invitation for your church and challenge your people to give it to people as they leave.
CD/MP3 Challenge If a friend is going through a difficult season in life, purchase them a copy of Stephen Curtis Chapman’s album“Beauty will Rise” written out of the journey of losing his daughter. Write a note to describing the story behind the album.

Intentional Plan for Evangelism
Thinking Strategically about an Intentional Focus The timing of an intentional focus on evangelism is important. Each ministry or Sunday church is in a different season and multiple factors will determine how much time they will dedicate to this intentional focus, and what the timing of that focus should be. Each ministry has multiple options as to the the schedule of their intentional focus on evangelism. •
Some ministries will choose to join CCU in a “Year of Evangelism.”
•
Some ministries will choose to join CCU in a “Month of Evangelism.”
•
Some ministries will choose to join CCU in a “Week of Evangelism.”
This Time Line Guide is not ment to direct what the focus of your ministry will look like, but instead is a tool to help you and your team brainstorm and map out what an intentional focus on evangelism will look like. On the following pages you will find three guides. One for a “Year of Evangelism,” one for a “Month of Evangelism,” and one for a “Year of Evangelism.” Turn to the guide the fits the plans you specifically have for your ministry. Week

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to feared above all gods. Th Then JJesus came to t th them and d said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everythign I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. age.”
Mark 16:15

Romans 1:16
Romans 6:23

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes; first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For the wages of sin is death, but the fift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Corinthians 9:16
2 Corinthians 5:19-20
Ephesians 4:11-12
1 Peter 3:15
Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are threfore Chrsit’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Chrsit may be built up. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
Theme Ideas Vision Vi sion i tthemes, hemes or campaigns, campaigns i can be a powerful way to communicate vision. The following are several ideas your ministry could use to communicate the vision of an intentional focus on evangelism to the people ple in your ministry.
Feel the Burn
5%
Idea Challenge your people to have hearts that burn to see their friends and family come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. That they would “Feel the Burn” in their hearts for the lost. Idea Communicate the statistic that only 5% of Christians ever share their relationship with Jesus Christ. Challenge your to image if it reversed and 95% of Christians shared their faith.
Whatever it takes
Idea Challenge your people to do whatever it takes to reach their friends and family for Jesus Christ.
Conversations
Idea Communicate that sharing our relationship with Jesus with our friends and family is as simple as a conversation.
The Cause
1:1
Idea Adapt this idea from Dare2Share ministries. Challenge your people to join “The Cause” of reaching people for Jesus. Check out www.dare2share.org/thecause for information. Idea Evangelism can be intimidating. Take some of the intimidation factor out by saying evangelism is as simple as a one on one (1:1) conversation between two friends.
Reach
Now is the Time
Coffee Talk
InsideOut
Kickoff
Idea Challenge your people to “Reach” out to their unreached friends and family.
Idea Challenge your people that “Now is the Time” to fulfill the Great Commission.
Id Idea Communicate to the people in your ministry that evangelism can be as simple as a cup of coffee with a friend. Train them how to bring God up in every day conversation. Idea Communicate that it is time to take the message of Jesus Christ outside of the walls of the church. It’s time to take what is “inside” and take it “out.”
Idea Communicate that Sunday is the “kickoff,” the rest is up to them. It is not their leader’s job to reach their friends and family, it is the responsibility of each believer to share their faith. Idea

Communicate the Gospel
Train People to Share the Gospel There are hundreds of tools to share the gospel. We’ve chosen what we feel are the best tools we’ve found to share the gospel. Use the Evangelism Tools app to equip your people with tools to communicate the gospel. Most people will gravitate towards one tool or another based upon several factors including personality, temperment, relationship circumstances, and the environment in which they are are sharing the gospel. Thus, it is important to not merely focus on one tool or technique, but rather give people an arsonal from which to draw upon. The more evangelism tools we can provide our people, the more likely they are to join the 5% of people who ever share their faith. Once you have a firm grasp of the evangelism tools, turn to the Equipping Tools section (the next section) to download resources to equip and train your people with these evangelism tools in the context of small groups, Sunday school classes, or even during a weekend service.

One-Verse O ne-V Verse Evangelism Evangeli lism is i a tool tooll developed d develop l ed d by b Randy Raysbrook, of the Navigators. It is a powerful tool in that it fairly simple in that it uses one verse, yet it is complete and shares the entire story of the gospel. The entire tool can be written out on a napkin and requries memorizing one verse, Romans 6:23. This tool has been used to lead thousands to give their lives to Christ over the past few years.
Romans 6:23
To begin using this tool tell the person you are sharing with that you can summarize everything you believe in one verse. Then ask if you could share it with them. If they say then write out Romans 6:23 on a napkin or piece of paper: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NIV). wages Circle the word “wage” and ask, “How would you feel if your boss refused to pay you the wages that were due to you?” A wage is something we earn, and deserve. Make a box and write the word “wage” in it.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
wages sin death
sin Circle the word “sin” and ask your friend what he thinks when he hears this word. Ask him to give some examples of sin (usually they’ll say big sins like murder, etc....Make sure to point out smaller sins like lying or cheating). Ask them if they've ever sinned. Point out we all sin, and when we sin it creates a gap between us and God. Draw two opposing cliffs with a gap in between. death Circle this word and ask what thoughts come to mind. Point out that to most people death is the end, it is eternal separation from God. This is an important part of the tool. Stop and have them do the “math.” Say, “According to this verse, if we sin, what do we earn as a wage?

”Thank goodness for this word.” It is important because it means a sharp contrast in thought is coming. What we have just looked at is bad news; what follows is good news. Draw a circle with the word “but” at the bottom of the canyon. gift
Draw a circle around the word “gift.” Ask them what the difference is between a “wage” and a “gift.” A wage b is something you earn and deserve, but a gift is free and must be purchased by someone else. God Circle this and explain that the gift you are talking about is free. Ask them, “According to this verse, who gave us this gift?” It is from God Himself. eternal life Circle these two words next, and then ask, “How would you define these words?” Ask, “What is the opposite of separation from God?” The Bible defines “eternal life” as eternity in heaven with God. This is another important checkpoint in the tool. At this point contrast one side of the cliff, death, with the other side, eternal life. Make sure they see that when we sin we earn death, but God offers a free gift of eternal life. Draw two stick figures representing you and the person you are sharing with. Say, “Because we have sinned, we’ve earned death. Thus, we are on this side of the gap. Now, we can try many things to try and jump this canyon, such as: ” Being a good person (draw an arrow lightly) Going to church or religion (draw an arrow lightly) Trying not to sin (draw an arrow lightly) Regardless of what we try, we can’t bridge the gap on our own because we still sin.

Explain that Jesus didn’t stay dead on the cross, instead he conquered death and after three days in the grave He rose from the dead. That means that even today we can have a relationship with him. Explain that making Jesus your Lord means you begin that relationship by giving your life to Him. He calls the shots and you follow after Him. Eternal life doesn’t start in heaven, it starts now with an amazing relationship with Him. At this point ask him if he wants to start a relationship with God that will last forever. Technology can be an incredible tool as we train our people to share the relationship with Jesus. The number one reason people don’t share is because they lack confidence, or are afraid they will forget what words to say. To borrow a phrase from Apple,“There’s an app for that” Life to the Full is an actual app anyone can download from iTunes. Here’s how to use it.

The Gospel Journey
The Gospel Journey tool was created by Greg Steir and has been used by Dare2Share ministries to train tens-of-thousands of students accross the United States to share their relationship with Jesus. The tool uses the simple acranem “G.O.S.P.E.L.” to tell the whole store of the gospel in an easy and powerful way.
Dare2Share
What is the GOSPEL Journey message? Sharing the gospel with someone else is like taking them on a journey with six stops along the way. The evangelist becomes a guide of sorts who brings their fellow sojourners to six stops along the way to pause and ponder the landscape of the story of the Bible, the gospel message. This journey begins in Genesis chapter one with the creation of humanity and concludes with the last chapter of the Bible, Revelation chapter twenty two. In between there are twists and turns, break ups and make ups, mystery and intrigue but the driving message of the plot is that from the ashes of sin comes the redemption of mankind through the death of Christ and His resurrection from the dead. In many ways this journey is like a fairy tale that just happens to be true. It could begin "Once upon a time" and conclude "and they lived happily ever after." This journey through the storyline of the Bible is filled with mankind's weak attempts at reconciliation toward a God whose heart humanity had broken. Much of the Old Testament is filled with examples of how sinful humanity attempted to gain God's acceptance through good deeds (Cain and his vegetables), obedience to God's commandments and a seemingly endless array of blood sacrifices. But all of these failed attempts prepared the way for the coming of Christ and the hope that He offered by His once and for all sacrifice on the cross. The irreducible minimum of the gospel message can be communicated in an acrostic with six letters in it that happen to spell out the word "gospel".

The Gospel Journey
The Gospel Journey tool was created by Greg Genesis 4 - Malachi 4 Steir and has been used by Dare2Share G ministries to train tens-of-thousands students From the beginning humanity has attempted to remove the stain of sin by good deeds. When Cain accross the Unitedfor States share their it (Genesis 4:1-4). Cain was offered God vegetables as an appeasement his sinto God rejected infuriated and killed his brother Abel. with Jesus. relationship In Exodus, the second book oftool the Bible, gave the Israelites “G.O.S.P the 10 Commandments (Exodus The uses God the simple acranem .E.L.” 20:1-17), not to save themto from but store to show that they telltheir the sin, whole of them the gospel in couldn't an easylive up to his perfect standards on their own (Galatians 3:23-24). Instead of looking to Him in faith many of the Jews looked and powerful way. to themselves and thought they could please God in their own strength. But God saw their "righteous" deeds like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Even the best of their good deeds were corrupted by selfish motives. In Leviticus, the third book of the Bible, God gave the Israelites the sacrificial system. Every time a Jew sinned he or she was to sacrifice a goat without any blemishes (Leviticus 4:27-31). Think about that. If you were a Jew in the Old Testament and had to make a sacrifice every time you lied, lusted, gossiped, complained or argued you would soon run out of goats. Other offerings included offerings of bulls and sheep. The sacrificial system was meant to point inward, upward and forward. It pointed inward to convince you of your sinfulness. If you were honest before God then you would soon realize that you could never make enough sacrifices for your sin. It pointed upward to make you trust in God for your salvation instead of sacrifices that you could make (Psalm 51:16,17). It pointed forward to the ultimate sacrifice of the lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who would someday come to take away the sin of the world ((John 1:29). ) Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again.
Matthew M tth - LLuke k When Jesus came to the earth he came as the fulfillment of the law (Matthew 5:17) and the ultimate sacrifice (Luke 24:45). He lived the perfect life that we could not live and died in our place, for our sin. When he died upon the cross he screamed the words "It is finished" (John 19:30). What he meant by these three words was that the price for our sins was paid completely. He was fully God and entirely man. As a perfect human he could die for other humans. As the true and living God his payment for sin was infinite. Jesus rose from the dead three days after he was murdered on the cross (Mark 16:6). He was seen by over 500 witnesses (I Corinthians 15:6) on at least 12 separate occasions over the course of forty days (Acts 1:3). Because he died our sins are paid for entirely. Because he rose from the dead we know that Jesus was who he claimed to be, God in the flesh. Everyone who trust in Him alonee has eternal life.
John The amazing thing about eternal life is that it is a free gift given to us by God through faith alone and not by any of our good deeds (Ephesians 2:8,9). Jesus paid the price for our sins when he died on the cross and all we must do is receive the gift of forgiveness through faith. When we believe that Jesus died for our sins and trust in Him alone we receive eternal life, are passed out of death into life and are guaranteed a home in heaven (John 5:24). Eternal life is not achieved by good deeds but received through faith. It's not a matter of trying but trusting. When we believe we receive the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. Almost the entire New Testament is dedicated to talking about this eternal life and the implications of it in our everyday lives. From John through Jude the disciples of Jesus show us how to live like Jesus intended, serving each other in love. This is the heart of eternal life!

Part of the reality of eternal lifetool is that it doesn't start after you die but as soon The uses the simple acranem “G.O.S.P .E.L.”as you believe (John 10:10). This life is the joy ofto a tell real, the exciting relationship with Jesus every single whole store of the gospel in an easyday through prayer, worship and living in the strength that God provides through his Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). and powerful way. The other part of the reality of eternal life is that all who have it will be with Jesus forever and ever in heaven someday. Once we receive it is ours forever and we are his forever! The last chapter of the last book of the Bible makes it clear that we will "rule and reign forever" with Jesus (Revelation 22:5). In essence the last chapter in the story of the Bible concludes by saying, "and they lived happily ever after."
If you have never trusted Christ for eternal life and it is something you would like to do right now, here is a sample prayer: "Dear Father, I know that I'm a sinner. I realize that my good deeds will never get me into heaven. Right now I believe that Jesus died in my place for my sins. I trust in Him alone to forgive me for all of my sins. Thank you for your free gift of eternal life."

The Cause Circle THE YEAR OF EVANGELISM
The Cause Circle
The Cause Circle has been developed by Dare2Share ministries and is an extremely effective process to see people come to know Jesus. Dare2Share focuses on three steps. First is to “Pray,” then comes “Pursue,” then comes “Persuade.” This simple process gives an effective strategy in which to reach peopld for Jesus Christ.
Pray, Pursue, Persuade You will have 100 times more influence on your friends than a stranger does! THE Cause Circle is a simple tool that will help you be purposeful about sharing Jesus’ message with your friends. It will help you identify your friends, then remind you to pray, to pursue spiritual conversations and to persuade them to consider Jesus’ message.
Dan Rob Matt
Here’s how it works: Write the names of your friends/family in the center of THE Cause Circle. Identify three friends/family you want to share the gospel with, then write their names in the “pray” section of the circle. As you find opportunities to pursue spiritual conversations with these friends, advance their name to the “pursue” area of the circle. Then go back and add another friend’s name to the “pray” section. When you have opportunities to go deeper in your spiritual conversations with your friends, move those friends forward along the circle to the “persuade” section. Your hope is that over time you will be able to persuade all your friends/ family to:

The Space/Walk Strategy g
There are two big reasons people don’t share their faith. First, because they have a hard time recongizing people God has placed in their sphere of influence that need Him. Second, because they are intimidated. The Space/Walk Strategy is a series of two tools designed to help people not only identify people God has placed in their influence, but also what it would look like to walk with that person towards Jesus Christ.
The Space Tool The first part of the Space/Walk Strategy is the Space Tool. The Space Tool was developed by Steve Carlson to provide a model for mentoring. However, we’re going to adapt this tool to make it relevant to give people a personal strategy for evangelism. The idea is for each believer to imagine themselves as a planet. Each believer has a number of people who God has placed in their “orbit,” or within their sphere of influence. eeds to keep Each believer needs aged” their “radar engaged” hful keeping a watchful d eye for who God t.” has in their “orbit.”

In this example, a believer named anet in Jordan is the planet the middle. God has allowed this Jordan to influence several unbelievers including Matt, Kevin, Jake, Dan, and Rob. Each of these five unbelievers is in the sphere of influence of Jordan . However, at this time, God has two in particular in “close orbit” around Jordan . Jake is in constant “orbit” around Jordan. God consistently has their paths cross. Jordan must be aware that God has Jordan involved in Jake’s life for a purpose. Jake becomes priority number one for Jordan to take intentional steps to share his faith with.
Rob
Kevin is also in “orbit” around Jordan. It is not as often as Jake, it may be once a week, or once every few months, but God has Kevin on Jordan’s radar screen for a purpose. Thus, Jordan should take intentional steps to share his faith with Kevin. What about the other three? Should Jordan not be intuitional about sharing his faith with them? Obviously not. God has them on Jordan’s evangelism radar screen. With these three, Jordan should keep his radar “engaged” and watch and pray for opportunities to share relationship with Christ with them. Have your people fill out the names of people has in their orbit with a Space Tool.

Only Jordan is on the right side of the line. Jordan is “Growing in Jesus.” He has found Jesus as His Savior and he is growing towards becoming a mature follower of Jesus Christ. God has called Jordan to lead people to Jesus and to make disciples. That can be intimidating. However, Jordan knows that reaching his friends is as simple as discovering who God has on his radar screen through the Space Tool, and walking with that person closer to Jesus. On Jordan’s Space Tool, Jake is in orbit around Jordan. rdan. So, sharing his faith means simply spending time with Jake, and intentionally doing things to walk Jake a step closer to accepting God’s gift of salvation. After Jake accepts Jesus as His Savior, Jordan’s next step is clear--to simply do intentional things to help Jake “grow in Jesus” until Jake ake is a “mature” follower of Jesus. The Space/Walk Strategy is a simple tool to help people eople identify people God has on their radar, and to give a simple clear map of how to walk with people towards Jesus. Go VIRAL Strategy THE YEAR OF EVANGELISM
gy Go VIRAL Strategy
One of the most powerful developments in personal evangelism strategy is new media. There are multiple evangelism tools available using short films, pictures, iTunes apps, and more. Cool tools are one thing, but what about a personal strategy to implement those tools? The VIRAL strategy uses the simple acronym “VIRAL” to provide a guide map to use this tools to share one’s relationship with Jesus Christ.
The “Viral” Movement Most of us have experienced a “viral” video. We’re sitting at our desk, someone calls out “You’ve got to see this!” Everyone gathers around their desk to watch the latest hilarious or amazing video off YouTube. Everyone has a laugh and then go back to their desk to email that same video to every friend in their contact list--and the video “virus” spreads. This phenomenon occurs every day at offices, homes, and school around the world. What if we took this same approach to new media tools for evangelism? Here’s strategy to go “VIRAL” with these amazing tools using ng the acronym acro “V.I.R.A.L.”
7 t View the Media Before you use any media tool to share your relationship with Jesus, make sure you VIEW the media tool yourself. When we say “view” we mean completely experience the tool. If you are planning to use a short film on your iPhone, watch it thoroughly, don’t just wing it. Here’s some questions to keep in mind: 1) What feelings and thoughts does this tool bring up in my heart & mind? 2) How will I use this tool to launch into a deeper or spiritual conversation? 3) How will I use this tool to listen to my friend’s story? 4) How will I use this tool to share my own story with my friend? 5) How will I use this tool to share the story of the gospel? *NOTE: For a list of where to find media evangelism tools see the “Evangelism Tools” section. * t Invite them to View After you are comfortable with the tool, INVITE an unreached friend to watch the tool with you. This can be as simple as saying: “I just watched this, you have to check it out.” “I thought you’d like this” Watch it on your Laptop or iPod hanging out at Starbucks. Watch it with them in your cube. Post it on Facebook. Send an email. Just find a way to invite them to watch it. Ideally, try to watch it with them. Since you’ve seen it before you can pray for them in your heart as they watch it. Pray God would use the video to open up their heart to His presence.

Outfitting Believers
Finding the Right Tools to Give your People for Evangelism With all of the evangelism tools availble today, it is amazing that only 5% of beleivers ever share their relationship with God. The section will highlight what we feel are some of the best tools available to outfit your people with to reach thier friends and family. When it comes to outreach tools, keep these two thoughts in mind: 1) Seclect Outreach Tools that fit your ministry environent. It is important to not just select a random tool, but instead to choose outreach tools that fit your ministry environment, and the culture of your community. Organizations like Biblica (formerly IBS) have people trained to help you do this at 1-800-524-1588. 2) Create an Outreach Tool Strategy. They say a tool not used is just a toy. That is why we don’t just set out a random tool collect dust on a table. Instead, develop a strategy to not only give your people access to these tools, but to have a solid strategy that gets your people to actually use these tools in real relationships. On the following pages you will find various tool ideas and strategy ideas on how to use outreach tools in your ministry.

Challenge your friend that you will read The Journey (the Book of John) together over the next four weeks, and get together once a week for coffee to share observations and answer any questions either of you have from the reading. 4. The Journey is about 40 pages long, so read 10 pages a week. The beauty of The 4 Week Journey is that it is not a cold “New Believer’s” course or class, Instead, it allows them to experience the life of Christ in a simple, one-on-one discipleship relationship completely based on simply ready Scripture and responding.

STUDENT TESTIMONY #1
Of course things weren’t perfect after that. My life was full of people who kept me grounded in the Scriptures and challenged me to pursue God. But it wasn’t until after high school that my faith really came of age.
I enrolled in a six-month Youth with a Mission program along Australia’s Sunshine Coast. During that time, I began to internalize the distinct difference between asking God into my life and weaving His presence into all parts of it. One night I declared, This is real and you are real—take me, Father, I’m yours. It was like God took me by the hand and walked me straight into His personality and nature.
Since coming to CCU, my spiritual growth has been taken to the next level. Everyone is so real and strives to be in God’s presence without pretense. It’s been refreshing, challenging, transforming, and purifying. I’ve also learned the value of solitude with God, and since nature is a great place for that, where better to live than right beside the vast mountains? Every day they inspire me. I feel like a little child basking in Christ’s splendor. “As a father, I wanted to lead all my children in the prayer of salvation, and God granted me that prayer beginning with Rachel. Attending CCU has empowered her to actively seek God's will for her future. Being far from home has taught her to balance personal independence with embracing God and the community He’s given her. It is a continual joy to watch her mature into womanhood and work out her salvation.” ¶ GdY EZccZg! GVX]Za»h YVY

STUDENT TESTIMONY #3
W
hen I was a child, my dad read the Bible to me every morning before school. Sitting at the dining table, I’d spoon a steaming bowl of oatmeal and listen to him. On one of those mornings, I accepted Christ as my Savior.
Owning My Faith

One Verse Evangelism To begin using this tool tell the person you are sharing with that you can summarize everything you believe in one verse. Then ask if you could share it with them.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
wages If they say then write out Romans 6:23 on a napkin or piece of paper: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NIV).
sin death
1) Circle the word Then ask, “How would you feel if your boss refused to pay you the wages that were due to you?” A wage is something we earn, and deserve. Make a box and write the word “wage” in it.
2) Circle the word Then ask your friend what he thinks when he hears this word.
3) Circle this word and ask what thoughts come to mind. Point out that to most people death is the end, it is eternal separation from God.
This is an important part of the tool. Stop and have them do the “math.” Say, “According to this verse, if we sin, what do we earn as a wage? Adapted with permission from One-Verse Evangelism, ©2000 Randy D. Raysbrook. All rights reserved.

Th Then say, “This verse would be pretty b bleak because it tells us if we sin, we earn the wage of death. But thank e goodness the verse doesn’t stop there. g 4) 4 Circle the word Say, ”This word is important because it S means a sharp contrast in thought is coming. What we have just looked at is bad news; what follows is good news. Draw a circle with the word “but” at the bottom of the canyon. 5)Circle the word Ask them what the difference is between a “wage” and a “gift.” A wage is something you earn and deserve, but a gift is free and must be b purchased p by someone else.
6) Circle the word . Explain that the gift you are talking about is free. Ask them, “According to this verse, who gave us this gift?” It is from God Himself. 7) Circle the words . Then ask, “How would you define these words?” Ask, “What is the opposite of separation from God?” The Bible defines “eternal life” as eternity in heaven with God.
One Verse Evangelism Explain that since sin earns the wage of death. Someone has to pay that wage and this verse explains who paid that wage and how God purchased our gift of eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
wages
Christ Jesus
8) Write the Name sin and draw a cross around it so that it creates a bridge from one side of the gap to the other. death Explain that God sent His son Jesus as a gift for us. Explain that Jesus never sinned, but so he never earned the wage of death. But despite not earning death He took our place, and paid our wage of death that we earned from our sin. He died so that we don’t have to die from sin, but instead we can receive the gift of life. We can cross over from death to life.
gift God eternal life
Explain that this gift is just like any other gift. Say,“If I went out and got you this pen and wrapped it up and put your name on it as a gift, would it be your’s yet?” They will usually say “No” Say,“What do you have to do for it to be yours?” The obvious answer is they have to accept it.
9) Circle the word . Explain that to accept this gift of eternal life we make Jesus Christ the Lord of our life. If he says, “Yes,” invite him to pray a short prayer in his own words, asking Jesus to forgive him. Adapted with permission from One-Verse Evangelism, ©2000 Randy D. Raysbrook. All rights reserved.
One Verse Evangelism 8) On your own, practice writing out the entire One Verse Evangelism Tool two times in the following two spaces:
9) Now, find a partner and practice giving tool to them. Start with the oldest partner being the “Christian” and the younger being the un-reached friend. Practice drawing out and explaining the tool. The younger should give feedback, and then switch places.

Space/Walk Strategy The Space Tool 1) Picture yourself as a . Each believer has a number of people who God has placed in their “orbit,” or within their sphere of influence.
2) Each believer needs to keep their “radar” We need to keep a watchful eye for who God has in their “orbit.”
.
In this example, a believer named Jordan is the planet in the middle.
Matt
Kevin
Jordan
Dan
Jake
Who has God placed in my radar?
3) Keeping our “radar” engaged means we are constantly looking for opportunities in every relationship. When our radar is engaged we seek to live according to God’s purpose for our relationships.
2
Space/Walk Strategy The Walk Tool
We use the Space Tool to help people recognize who God has on their “radar.” Once these people are identified, use the second part of the Space/Walk Strategy which is the Walk Tool. The Walk Tool is designed to help people know what to do with the people God has on their radar.
4) The Walk Tool is a continuum for people to see how they can respond to help people who God has on their radar screen closer to Jesus Christ.
In this example you will see the five people on Jordan’s Space Tool mapped out on the continuum. Rob and Kevin are both “Hostile to Jesus.” Both Kevin and Rob want nothing to do with Jesus, in fact the get defensive and upset anytime Jordan talks about Jesus. Note, that even though Kevin is “Hostile to Jesus,” God still has placed Kevin in orbit on Jordan’s radar screen (from the Space tool). Even though Kevin is hostile to Jesus, God still has ith? w Jordan feeling called to intentionally share his relationship with Jesus to alk w Kevin. to Matt, Jake, and Dan are all “Interested in Jesus.” They are all seeking answers and interested in talking about d Go Jesus. Dan is closer than Jake or Matt, but s e none of them have crossed the line of do o accepting Jesus as their personal Wh Savior.
e
nt m wa
Matt
Only Jordan is on the right side of the line. Jordan is “Growing in Jesus.” He has found Jesus as His Savior and he is growing towards becoming a mature follower of Jesus Christ.
Kevin
Jordan
Jordan Jake Dan
Mature in Jesus
God has called Jordan to lead Rob people to Jesus and to make d in Jesus Intereste disciples. That can be in Jesus Hostile intimidating. However, Jordan to Jesus knows that reaching his friends is as simple as discovering who God has on his radar screen through the Space Tool, and walking with that person closer to Jesus.
n g Salvatio Growin
On Jordan’s Space Tool, Jake is in orbit around Jordan. So, sharing his faith means simply spending time with Jake, and intentionally doing things to walk Jake a step closer to accepting God’s gift of salvation. After Jake accepts Jesus as His Savior, Jordan’s next step is clear--to simply do intentional things to help Jake “grow in Jesus” until Jake is a “mature” follower of Jesus
4) Ask with each person you identify on your radar screen,“What is take to walk this person a few steps closer to Jesus?”
step I can
Each circumstance is unique. However, the goal is the same with each person--to do whatever we can to help them grow closer to a mature relationship with Jesus Christ.

Go VIRAL Strategy Most of us have experienced a “viral” video. Here’s strategy to go “VIRAL” with these amazing tools using the acronym “V.I.R.A.L.” To find great evangelistic viral videos go to www.globalshortfilmnetwork.com.
7 t View the Media Before you use any media tool to share your relationship with Jesus, make sure you the media tool yourself.
* t Invite them to View After you are comfortable with the tool, an unreached friend to watch the tool with you.
2

Rock the River
Comming Summer/Fall 2010 What is Rock the River? It is an evangelistic movement of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association spreading accross the United States. Next Stop = Denver. Franklin Graham has taken up the reigns of his father and now is partnering with the hottest bands in the country to put on all day festivals geared towards reaching the next generation for Jesus Christ. The methods may have changed but the message remains the same. Rock the River is about reaching people for Jesus Christ!
Why should your ministry get invovled? Because, as with the old Billy Graham Crusades, Rock the River is bigger than a one day event. Your ministry participation provides the people off your ministry the opportunity to be trained by the BGEA in evangelism. What better way could there be to cap off The Year of Evangelism than a BGEA festival?
