Imprint Processes

Blind Debossing

Debossing is an ink-free process similar to embossing, yet essentially the inverse. Instead of pressing a design from the back of the stock to create a raised image, debossing presses the design into the stock to create an indented image. This process can also be done with ink or foil and can, in some instances, be in register with them.

Blind Embossing

Blind embossing is a very subtle technique that is similar to stamping or engraving, except without ink. A design or text is pushed into the back of the paper using a metallic die and a counter die to leave a raised impression in the front, producing incredibly sophisticated stationery that can be both seen and felt. The raised representation of the design can either be a single-level, one dimensional design or a multiple-level, three-dimensional design created with a brass die.

Engraving

Engraving is a process similar to embossing, that uses pressure and ink. A die with an image or text etched into it is coated with ink. The excess ink around the non-imaging area of the die is wiped clean. The remaining ink resides only in the printable area of the die. This image is then pressed into the front of the paper. The resulting appearance is a slightly raised ink.

With a look similar to foil embossing, Raised Foil brings depth and shine to your full color design. Add Raised Foil for a touch of raised metallic shine in your choice of nine different colors.

Bring Spot Gloss to a new level! Not only does Raised Spot Gloss add an element of shine to your full color design, it adds dimension that makes those design elements stand out even more.

Enhanced Finishes: Spot Gloss

Used to add a touch of shine to your full color design, Spot Gloss can be used to create shining designs on its own or can enhance elements of your design with a glossy finish.

Flat Printing

Also called lithography, flat printing is the classic combination of ink and paper, creating an image that is level with the surface of the paper — neither raised nor depressed. Offset printing presses are used to transfer the image from a plate to a rubber blanket. The image is then transferred from the blanket to the paper.

Foil Embossing

Also known as hot leaf embossing, this process combines both embossing and foil stamping in either two steps (see definitions of “embossing” and “foil stamping”) or in one step using a foil emboss die which can be single or multilevel. Foil embossing requires both heat and pressure to push the design through the back of the paper into the foil and die at the same time. The resulting effect is a raised metallic image on the front of the paper.

Foil Stamping

Foil stamping, also known as hot stamping, is a process that uses heat and pressure along with metallic foil material to stamp a flat design or text onto paper via a metallic die. Foil stamped products immediately draw attention with a flashy, lustrous effect. When ordering, use the foil stamping or ink with foil stamping upcharge on the price grids for the paper you’ve selected.

Full Color Process - Flat and Raised

Ideal for complex color variations in artwork, full color process printing combines four basic colors — cyan, magenta, yellow, and black — offering a wide spectrum of vivid color and creating a lasting impression. Full color raised printing adds texture and dimension.

Perma Raised® Thermography

Perma Raised® is a special heat-resistant thermography process designed to withstand the high temperatures of office printers or copy machines without melting, smearing, or distorting color. All letterheads and envelopes are printed with Perma Raised® thermography unless otherwise indicated.

Raised Printing

Also referred to as thermography, raised printing is an economical option to garner a raised effect similar to engraving and embossing. Thermography is attractive and a widely preferred printing process that adds prestige to any printed piece. All orders will print with raised ink unless another process is specified or the product is listed otherwise.

Standard and PMS Inks

Standard inks are ink colors that are most commonly used like Black, Brown, Burgundy, Dark Blue, Green, Gray, Light Blue, Red, Reflex Blue, and Teal. Samples of standard inks can be found in the Stationery Swatch Book.

PMS inks are specific ink numbers from the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM®, the universal color matching and reproduction system that helps achieve 100% accuracy. *Standard and PMS ink price variations are noted in the price grid.

Offset printing presses are most often used to transfer the image from a plate to a rubber blanket. The image is then printed from the blanket on the printing press to the paper.

General Information for Manual Catalog Orders

Art Charges

Art charges will apply for layouts requiring special attention, i.e. artwork that is unsuitable for reproduction, logos requiring color separation, or files that are otherwise not print ready and require manipulation. If you need scanning or design and typesetting performed, contact us for details on prep charges.

Art charges apply in addition to standard setup charges for manual orders. Setup charges include basic file checks including margins, bleeds, embedded/ outlined fonts and resolution of raster images.

NOTE: Add two production days for typesetting and design to the production time of the product. Listed production times will begin after artwork approval.

Back Copy on Spot Color Business Cards

Copy printed on the backside of a business card will be flat printed. Raised print is not available. For pricing see page 24.

Bleeds on Spot Color Business Cards

A bleed is a printed image that extends off the edge of the paper. Artwork should exceed ⅛" beyond the paper size, on each side.

Die Charges

Master Business Card Program

Maintain your corporate image and save money and time. We print your “Master,” consisting of your company name and standard company information. We hold the printed Masters and imprint with individual names and information as needed. The minimum quantity for Master Business Cards runs is as low as 10,000. Personalized imprints can be ordered in quantities of 250, 500, or 1,000. Contact us.

Multiple Lot Business Cards (Volume Discount)

Multiple lot discounts are available with text changes or omissions. Changes in registration, logos, bleeds, ink, stock, layout, etc. will be priced as separate orders. Contact us.

Oversized and Undersized Business Cards

Standard Business Cards measure 3½" x 2". Special card sizes measuring 1" x 2½" up to 4" x 4" are available. Contact us for more details.

Registration is when two inks or foils come within 1 16" or touch. Request a quote on registration between:

Photos

Photos are not recommended in thermography or raised print. On all photographs, a copyright release form signed by the photographer must accompany the order.

Proofs

Digital proofs are provided at no charge on all online orders. Proofs on manual catalog orders are available for $15.00 (R) each. For proofs that require typesetting and design, see “Art Charges” on page 27. This is not a press proof and is approximate color only. This proof should be used to evaluate copy, color breaks and art/photo placement. Resolution of raster images on digital proofs is downsampled to make files a manageable size for emailing. Your printed product will use the native resolution of the artwork you provide to us. Production time starts after proof approval. Printed press proofs are billed as actual orders of the minimum quantity less 10%.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Business Cards

Creating Your Files

Create one item sized correctly per document. (Placed graphics and text should be sized at 100%.)

Fonts:

Using your illustration program, convert all text to curves or create outlines in your files. Never use the stylization palette to bold, italicize, add drop shadow, or to put outline on your fonts. If you are using fonts not owned by Navitor, outlines must be created in an illustration program before submitting your artwork.

Margin Requirements:

Spot Color printing:

Business cards must be sent 1-up with at least ⅛" (.125") margin.

Full Color Process printing: Business cards should have at least ⅛" (.125") margins.

Bleed Requirements:

Allow ⅛" (.125") on all sides. Please make sure the text still maintains the required margin even when graphics bleed.

Color Requirements:

For any Adobe® Photoshop® file or placed (raster) image we accept a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, but we recommend 600 dpi for best quality. Every element of the file must be colored with process CMYK colors (no RGB, indexed color, etc.). If RGB or other non-CMYK colors are used in your files, the necessary conversion to CMYK will change the appearance of the colors when we print, sometimes dramatically.

While we are often able to closely reproduce a spot PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® (PMS) ink using full color process, PMS spot colors and process colors are produced using different methods. Therefore, colors produced in full color will differ from PANTONE® spot colors, sometimes significantly. Please refer to the PANTONE COLOR BRIDGE® Plus Series for color conversions.

Printing Black vs. Black:

To ensure the best possible results, many print products should use printing black (C-80%, M-80%, Y-80%, K-95%) instead of 100% black. Use printing black for:

• Any raised print products; this ensures an optimal raised appearance

• Flat or raised print orders which include black in registration with other colors, heavy ink coverage, or lines thicker than 2 points

Full Color Raised/Thermography Printing

Light skin tones, light colors, and low screen percentages will have a negative impact on the raised appearance of your product. For best raised printing results, we recommend that the Total Area Coverage be at 150% or higher. Total Area Coverage (TAC) is the total of the CMYK value of a color. For example, a card using a light blue color with a CMYK mix of 89, 10, 0, 0 has a TAC of 99%. This color will not work well with thermography because there is not enough ink coverage to hold thermography powder.

Spot Color Printing

Spot orders should be colored using the correct spot color swatch. You can create your own spot swatch or you can download and install our Swatch Library from our website. For PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® colors, it is best to use the PANTONE solid uncoated library that is already loaded within the program.

For any Adobe® Photoshop® file or placed (raster) image we accept a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, but we recommend 600 dpi for best quality. Black & White Bitmap Image Mode should be used unless screens are present, Grayscale Image Mode should be used if screens are present.

Swatch Library

Our Swatch Library can be installed on equipment that is running any Adobe product. This will give you access to all of our colors and their mix settings to ensure that we print exactly what you create. The instruction file will walk you through the process of setting up the file. The library and instructions for installation can be found under “Help and Resources” on our website.

Imprint Processes

Blind Debossing

Debossing is an ink-free process similar to embossing, yet essentially the inverse. Instead of pressing a design from the back of the stock to create a raised image, debossing presses the design into the stock to create an indented image. This process can also be done with ink or foil and can, in some instances, be in register with them.

Blind Embossing

Blind embossing is a very subtle technique that is similar to stamping or engraving, except without ink. A design or text is pushed into the back of the paper using a metallic die and a counter die to leave a raised impression in the front, producing incredibly sophisticated stationery that can be both seen and felt. The raised representation of the design can either be a single-level, one dimensional design or a multiple-level, three-dimensional design created with a brass die.

Engraving

Engraving is a process similar to embossing, that uses pressure and ink. A die with an image or text etched into it is coated with ink. The excess ink around the non-imaging area of the die is wiped clean. The remaining ink resides only in the printable area of the die. This image is then pressed into the front of the paper. The resulting appearance is a slightly raised ink.

With a look similar to foil embossing, Raised Foil brings depth and shine to your full color design. Add Raised Foil for a touch of raised metallic shine in your choice of nine different colors.

Bring Spot Gloss to a new level! Not only does Raised Spot Gloss add an element of shine to your full color design, it adds dimension that makes those design elements stand out even more.

Enhanced Finishes: Spot Gloss

Used to add a touch of shine to your full color design, Spot Gloss can be used to create shining designs on its own or can enhance elements of your design with a glossy finish.

Flat Printing

Also called lithography, flat printing is the classic combination of ink and paper, creating an image that is level with the surface of the paper — neither raised nor depressed. Offset printing presses are used to transfer the image from a plate to a rubber blanket. The image is then transferred from the blanket to the paper.

Foil Embossing

Also known as hot leaf embossing, this process combines both embossing and foil stamping in either two steps (see definitions of “embossing” and “foil stamping”) or in one step using a foil emboss die which can be single or multilevel. Foil embossing requires both heat and pressure to push the design through the back of the paper into the foil and die at the same time. The resulting effect is a raised metallic image on the front of the paper.

Foil Stamping

Foil stamping, also known as hot stamping, is a process that uses heat and pressure along with metallic foil material to stamp a flat design or text onto paper via a metallic die. Foil stamped products immediately draw attention with a flashy, lustrous effect. When ordering, use the foil stamping or ink with foil stamping upcharge on the price grids for the paper you’ve selected.

Full Color Process - Flat and Raised

Ideal for complex color variations in artwork, full color process printing combines four basic colors — cyan, magenta, yellow, and black — offering a wide spectrum of vivid color and creating a lasting impression. Full color raised printing adds texture and dimension.

Perma Raised® Thermography

Perma Raised® is a special heat-resistant thermography process designed to withstand the high temperatures of office printers or copy machines without melting, smearing, or distorting color. All letterheads and envelopes are printed with Perma Raised® thermography unless otherwise indicated.

Raised Printing

Also referred to as thermography, raised printing is an economical option to garner a raised effect similar to engraving and embossing. Thermography is attractive and a widely preferred printing process that adds prestige to any printed piece. All orders will print with raised ink unless another process is specified or the product is listed otherwise.

Standard and PMS Inks

Standard inks are ink colors that are most commonly used like Black, Brown, Burgundy, Dark Blue, Green, Gray, Light Blue, Red, Reflex Blue, and Teal. Samples of standard inks can be found in the Stationery Swatch Book.

PMS inks are specific ink numbers from the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM®, the universal color matching and reproduction system that helps achieve 100% accuracy. *Standard and PMS ink price variations are noted in the price grid.

Offset printing presses are most often used to transfer the image from a plate to a rubber blanket. The image is then printed from the blanket on the printing press to the paper.

General Information for Manual Catalog Orders

Art Charges

Art charges will apply for layouts requiring special attention, i.e. artwork that is unsuitable for reproduction, logos requiring color separation, or files that are otherwise not print ready and require manipulation. If you need scanning or design and typesetting performed, contact us for a quote on prep charges.

NOTE: Add two working days for typesetting and design to the production time of the product. Listed production times will begin after artwork approval.

Back Copy for Card Announcements

Apply the back copy charge only to card announcements. There is no charge for back copy on foldover announcements if front and back panels are printed using the same colors and processes. Inside Copy for Foldover Announcements

Phantom Watermark for Letterheads

A flat printed 5% screen of your logo printed in the center of your letterheads to simulate a paper watermark. Add prices below to the base letterheads price.

Bleeds

A bleed is a printed image that extends off the edge of the paper. Artwork should exceed ⅛" beyond the paper size, on each side.

Special Foil Charge

If flap copy is a different color than front copy, add an additional $5.00 (R) for any standard and $47.00 (R) for PMS ink. When an envelope is engraved, embossed or foil embossed, the impression will show through on the back of the envelope. If you do not want the impression to show through, we can open the flap, engrave or emboss your copy and close the flap. This must also be done if you want any of these processes on the envelope flap. Add $36.00 (R) per 1,000.

Announcement envelopes are flat printed on the back flap or front center for respond envelopes. Please indicate position on your order blank. If no indication is given, envelope flap imprint will be supplied.

Folding for Announcements

Announcements are scored and shipped flat. We will fold announcements for $15.00 (R) per 1,000 minimum.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Stationery

Creating Your Files

Create one item sized correctly per document. (Placed graphics and text should be sized at 100%.)

Fonts:

Using your illustration program, convert all text to curves or create outlines in your files. Never use the stylization palette to bold, italicize, add drop shadow, or to put outline on your fonts. If you are using fonts not owned by Navitor, outlines must be created in an illustration program before submitting your artwork.

Margin Requirements:

Spot Color printing:

1. Envelopes must allow ¼" (.25") from the top and side.

2. Letterheads must have at least ⅜" (.375") at the top and ¼" (.25") along all sides and bottom.

Full Color Process printing:

1. Postcards need at least ¼" (.25") margins.

2. Sales sheets, flyers and brochures require at least ¼" (.25") margin for the text or other image that doesn’t bleed on all sides. If a bleed is wanted, the text still needs to be ¼" (.25") away from the edge.

Bleed Requirements:

1. Allow ⅛" (.125") on all sides. Please make sure the text still maintains the required margin even when graphics bleed.

2. Bleeds are not available on full color raised letterheads and all envelopes without a quote.

Color Requirements:

For any Adobe® Photoshop® file or placed (raster) image we accept a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, but we recommend 600 dpi for best quality.

Every element of the file must be colored with process CMYK colors (no RGB, indexed color, etc.). If RGB or other non-CMYK colors are used in your files, the necessary conversion to CMYK will change the appearance of the colors when we print, sometimes dramatically.

While we are often able to closely reproduce a spot PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® (PMS) ink using full color process, PMS spot colors and process colors are produced using different methods. Therefore, colors produced in full color will differ from PANTONE® spot colors, sometimes significantly. Please refer to the PANTONE COLOR BRIDGE® Plus Series for color conversions.

Printing Black vs. Black:

To ensure the best possible results, many print products should use printing black (C-80%, M-80%, Y-80%, K-95%) instead of 100% black. Use printing black for:

• Any raised print products; this ensures an optimal raised appearance

• Flat or raised print orders which include black in registration with other colors, heavy ink coverage, or lines thicker than 2 points

Full Color Raised/Thermography Printing

Light skin tones, light colors, and low screen percentages will have a negative impact on the raised appearance of your product. For best raised printing results, we recommend that the Total Area Coverage be at 150% or higher. Total Area Coverage (TAC) is the total of the CMYK value of a color. For example, a card using a light blue color with a CMYK mix of 89, 10, 0, 0 has a TAC of 99%. This color will not work well with thermography because there is not enough ink coverage to hold thermography powder.

Spot Color Printing

Spot orders should be colored using the correct spot color swatch. You can create your own spot swatch or you can download and install our Swatch Library from our website. For PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® colors, it is best to use the PANTONE solid uncoated library that is already loaded within the program.

For any Adobe® Photoshop® file or placed (raster) image we accept a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, but we recommend 600 dpi for best quality. Black & White Bitmap Image Mode should be used unless screens are present, Grayscale Image Mode should be used if screens are present.

Swatch Library

Our Swatch Library can be installed on equipment that is running any Adobe product. This will give you access to all of our colors and their mix settings to ensure that we print exactly what you create. The instruction file will walk you through the process of setting up the file. The library and instructions for installation can be found under “Help and Resources” on our website.

Full Color Process

Four color process printing combines four basic colors — cyan, magenta, yellow, and black — to create multiple colors and a lasting impression.

Spot Color Process

Spot color process uses pre-mixed ink to create a striking one-color impression.

Flat Printing

Flat printing, also called lithography, is a printing process in which the image area is neither raised nor depressed. Offset printing presses are most often used to transfer the image from a plate to a rubber blanket. The image is then printed from the blanket on the printing press to the paper.

General Information For Manual Catalog Orders

Print-ready artwork is defined as artwork that is provided at 100% size, requires no typesetting and has a ⅛" margin on all sides, including a bleed when needed. Exact position of text and graphics should be indicated. For copyrighted images, submit an authorization form with your order.

Changes or Cancellations

Changes to orders in progress may require additional charges and/or time. Cancellations after an order is in progress will require payment for work completed. A minimum fee of $25.00 (V) will be charged for all cancellations or changes. If the order has already been printed, the full order value will be charged.

Consecutive Numbering

Indicate a starting number and format (01,001,0001) when ordering. Consecutive numbering is available on most stocks and provided on rolls. Call for pricing on individually cut and numbered labels.

Creating Your Files

Create one item sized correctly per document. Placed graphics and text should be sized at 100%. For freeform™ laser cut labels, create a layered file that includes the cut path.

Color Requirements

Spot Color Printing

Submit black and white bitmap mode images at 600 dpi and grayscale mode images at 600 dpi for standard spot printing. For freeform™ laser cut labels, create a layered file that includes the cut path.

Process Color Printing

We recommend a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for any Photoshop file or placed (raster) image for best quality.

Every element of the file must be colored with process CMYK colors (no RGB, indexed color, etc.). If RGB or other non-CMYK colors are used in your files, the necessary conversion to CMYK will change the appearance of the colors when we print, sometimes dramatically.

While we are often able to closely reproduce a spot PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® (PMS) ink using Process Color, PMS spot colors and process colors are produced using different methods. Therefore, colors produced in 4 color will differ from PANTONE® spot colors, sometimes significantly. Please refer to a Solid to Process Color Imaging Guide for color conversions.

Proofs

Stock colors will not be represented on proofs and are available electronically or by fax. Proofs must be requested when orders are submitted and are available on the same day if received by 12 pm CT. First proof is free; additional proofs are $18.00 (V). Once we receive your approval of the proof(s), we will begin creating your order. If you should decide against ordering, or place your order more than 30 days after the creation of the last proof, a minimum charge of $18.00 (V) will be applied to your order.

Screens and Registration

Screens are available with a 5%–95% tint. Registration of color-to-color is within industry standards of 1/32".

Standard Inks

All standard inks are not opaque. They may appear transparent on clear stocks and some ink colors will vary on colored stocks.

Variable Data

If using variable text or data, see “Variable Data Guidelines” on page 214 for more information.

Using your illustration program, convert all text to curves or create outlines in your files. Never use the stylization palette to bold, italicize, add drop shadow to or put outline on your fonts. If you are using fonts not owned by Navitor, outlines must be created in an illustration program before submitting your artwork.

Margin Requirements

Labels must be set up with at least a ⅛” margin.

Bleed Requirements

1 16 ” should be allowed on all sides. Example: Artwork for a 2” x 3” label with bleeds on all four sides would measure 2⅛” x 3⅛”

Clear stock labels are a popular choice for many uses, but sometimes it needs a little help to ensure they are visible, easy to read and communicate effectively. White back-up is the process of applying white ink directly behind the artwork to make it easier to read on clear stocks.

Label Adhesives

All labels featured in this catalog, with the exception of Window lite, are provided with permanent adhesive and cannot be easily removed without certain solvents.

White Gloss Removable, White Matte Removable and White Polyolefin Removable will become permanent over time. These stocks do not remove well from paper.

Label Application

For best results, labels should always be applied at room temperature to smooth, dry, clean, oil-free surfaces. Ink colors will appear transparent on clear stocks. If there is any question as to the proper application, please request free samples to test.

Standard Ink Colors

Stock Terms

Point (pt.): Caliper refers to the thickness of a single sheet of paper in thousandths of an inch.

Pound (lb.): Weight of 500 sheets in the stock’s industry standard basic size (different for all paper types).

Uncoated Paper: Has a flat finish and is available in many textures. Uncoated has a porous, more natural feel. Most recycled paper is uncoated. Ink will soak into fibers of the paper. As a result, inks will appear different when printed on uncoated paper versus coated.

C1S Paper: Paper coated on one side.

C2S Paper: Paper coated on both sides.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Folders

Gloss Finish: Provides a lot of “shine” resulting in higher contrast. Good for full color images where color needs to “pop.” However, this finish is very sensitive to dust and fingerprints (on UV Gloss Finish).

Semi-Gloss Paper: Provides a great compromise between a smooth/matte finish and a gloss finish. Helps reduce glare, dust and fingerprint issues.

Silk: Provides very little glare. Good for enhancing designs with more subdued layouts and color sets.

Carbon Neutral: This stock was made using carbon neutral processes with energy derived from natural processes that are replenished constantly.

Forest Stewardship Council: This paper originates in a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sustainable, well-managed forest.

Green Seal Certified: Stock contains at least 30% post-consumer material.

Post-Consumer Waste: This stock was made using a certain percentage of recycled material (post-consumer waste).

Renewable Energy: This stock was manufactured using 100% renewable energy.

Recycled Material: This stock is made from recycled material.

Aqueous Coating: This is a clear, fast-drying coating used to protect printed pieces. Aqueous satin and gloss coatings are available upon request.

Gloss: This is a glossy coating over the entire printed surface of a folder. See imprint upgrade table below.

Laminating: Gloss lamination provides a protective coating that produces a shiny, glass-like appearance that enhances the color and vibrancy of inks. Soft touch lamination offers a protective finish with a matte effect and a soft, velvet-like texture. These distinctive features appeal to tactile senses and encourage engagement.

Additional Stock Options

Spot Gloss: This coating applies a highlighted high gloss sheen to targeted areas of your design.

UV Coating: Ultraviolet (UV) coatings provide added durability, and UV cured coatings are thicker and more protective than varnish or aqueous coatings. The following UV coating options are available for use on our coated paper stocks identified in the table on page 118.

Additional Die Set-Up

Additional die set-up charges will be applied as necessary if the 36 total square inches of coverage is exceeded for foiling or embossing.

Art Charges

If your layout requires special attention or your artwork is unsuitable for reproduction, we will make the necessary changes. You will be notified if artwork charges apply.

Business Card Slits

• Standard business card slit options include horizontal, vertical or half   m oon slits centered on the pocket.

• Slits can be centered on either the right, left or both pockets for no a dditional charge.

• The business card slits depicted on the line art for each product style throughout the catalog are for position only. Please specify position on your order.

• For special slit orientation or other slit options, contact us for details.

Coated Stocks

If your artwork requires copy to be printed across score/fold lines (ie. folder spine or pocket folds) we recommend changing to a 12 pt. stock to minimize the potential for cracking along those score/fold lines.

Uncoated Stocks

If your artwork requires copy to be printed across score/fold lines (ie. folder spine or pocket folds), we recommend changing to a 100 lb. stock to minimize the potential for cracking along those score/fold lines.

Die Charges

A die setup charge will be applied for an envelope slit, 4¼" custom pad slit, flash drive slits, or file card punch out. Custom die cut dies will vary in cost according to the size and amount of detail in your design. Call or send design for a price quote. Allow 5 working days. Dies will be stored at FolderWorks™ at no additional cost unless otherwise requested.

Final Folding & Shipping

Folders are shipped flat/open. If folders need to be folded in half when they are shipped, please indicate on order blank. Additional charges may apply to unglued folders.

Heavy Ink Coverage

• Any solid or screened areas exceeding 15% of the front or back cover (4" X 4" area) must be flat printed.

• Any solid areas of spot color exceeding 50% of the front or back cover will require the heavy ink coverage add on price. Additional production time will apply

Inside Copy

Printing inside above pockets requires an extra charge due to the additional press run required. Contact us for details. Additional production time is also required.

Over/Underruns

All presentation folder orders are considered to be “exact quantity” orders. We send you the quantity you order. Absolutely no shortages! And, if we produce extras, we will not automatically send the extras and charge you for them.

Pocket Copy

When laying out copy for folder pockets, allow ¾" additional margin for reinforced edges. Printing on folder pockets is not considered inside copy.

Proofs

• Your first electronic proof is free! PDF and color proofs are available. Color proofs may not be exact. Add 2 working days to the production time when requesting a proof. Contact us for details.

• An Epson proof is also available (or as an alternative) for $40 per side. This is a high resolution full color process digital proof for color matching and resolution purposes. It is not a fully produced folder; we will ship you a flat sheet of Epson paper printed with your customers artwork, including die lines for the cut and score areas.

Special Ink

Special inks are available per color by selecting from the PANTONE® Color Formula Guide. Requesting an exact match from a color swatch or sample may require an additional color match charge.

Standard Inks

All standard and PMS inks are translucent. There is no additional charge for PMS inks. We do not recommend printing ink on dark colored stocks due to the ink discoloring. A no-charge reprint is not available when printing inks on dark colored stocks.

Creating Your Files

Bleed Requirements

Allow ⅛" (.125") on all sides. Make sure the text still maintains the required margin even when graphics bleed.

Color Requirements

Navitor now has a Accurate Color System. You can now send your files colored using the intended PANTONE® Matching System (PMS) color instead of having to color it using CMYK colors. Every effort will be made to print your intended color within acceptable standards.

Printing Black vs Black for Four Color Orders

Use printing black (C-80%, M-80%, Y-80%, K-95%) instead of 100% black when in registration with other colors, in areas with heavy ink coverage, and for bold type or lines (2.5 points or thicker). Use 100% black in all other instances. If the CMYK mixes used in your file do not match the Multicolor numbers chosen, we will use the file as is and print as a “CMYK Scan” with no guarantees.

Spot Color Printing

Submit black and white bitmap images at 600 dpi and grayscale mode images at 600 dpi for standard spot printing.

Swatch Library

Our Swatch Library can be installed on equipment that is running any Adobe product. This will give you access to all of our colors and their mix settings to ensure that we print exactly what you create. The instruction file will walk you through process of setting up the file. The library and instructions for installation can be found under “Help and Resources” on our website.

Art Charges

Art charges will apply for layouts requiring special attention, i.e. artwork that is unsuitable for reproduction, logos requiring color separation, or disks that contain files that are not print ready and require manipulation. If you need scanning or design and typesetting performed, contact us for a quote on prep charges.

NOTE: Add two production days for typesetting and design to the production time of the product. Listed production times will begin after artwork approval.

Artwork

Provide clean, flat, black and white, camera-ready artwork scaled to fit the imprint area.

Booking

Sets of snap set forms bound together. Our custom books are bound together with staples and most often a wraparound cover. The cover is 80# white vellum stock which doubles as a divider to separate the form being used from the unused forms.

Logos

View our stock logo selection on the Help and Resources tab online. Custom logo artwork should be provided in solid black. Prescreened artwork does not reproduce well. Logos will be placed in the upper left hand corner of the designated imprint area unless indicated otherwise.

Proofs

Digital proofs are provided at no charge on all online orders. Manual catalog proofs in black and white are available for $15.00 (R) each. Production time starts after proof approval.

Snap Sets

Also known as snap-outs, snap apart or unit sets. Snap sets are multipart forms that have a perforated tear off stub on one edge.

The Spot Gloss Finish is a clear coating that you can put over any area in your design. To set up your art file, create one layer with the complete full color design and another layer with just the elements you want to have a spot gloss finish. Use PMS 100 to represent the areas where the spot gloss will be applied. We recommend using a minimum line weight of 3pt and a minimum text size of 6pt. Spot Gloss on Acrylic Holders is only available through manual catalog ordering.

General Information For Manual Catalog Orders

Proofs

Digital proofs are provided at no charge on all online orders. Manual catalog proofs in black and white are available for $15.00 (R) each. Add 2 days to production time. Virtual proofs are available for $15.00 (R). Add up to 4 additional days to production times.

Creating Your Files

Create one item sized correctly per document. (Placed graphics and text should be sized at 100%.)

Artwork

You will need to provide clean, black and white or full color artwork scaled to fit the impression area. Black and white artwork should be sent without screens or shading. Black and white bitmap images should be submitted at 600 dpi. CMYK and grayscale images should be submitted at 300 dpi. All artwork should be sized at 100%.

All placed graphics and images need to be high quality and colored according to our guidelines for the product ordered. All supporting graphic files used within your layout must be sent along with the layout file, placed at 100%.

Do not send faxed art or photocopies. Laser copies must be a minimum of 600 dpi.

Screens: We do not recommend using screened colors on any artwork for promotional products.

Fonts

Using your illustration program, convert all text to curves or create outlines in your files. Never use the stylization palette to bold, italicize, add drop shadow to or put outlines on your fonts. If you are using fonts not owned by Navitor®, outlines must be created in illustration program before submitting your artwork.

Graphic Requirements

We accept electronic art created in the following applications: Adobe® Illustrator®, Adobe® Photoshop®, and Adobe® InDesign®.

Whenever possible, place vector images into the layout before converting to a PDF. Be aware that when changes need to be made to placed images (coloring, mode, etc.), there is the possibility of the quality being compromised.

Compressed files can be sent in the following formats: .sit, .sea, and .zip.

If your files require special attention to change or correct, and we are able to make the necessary changes with a quick fix, we will do so for a $15.00 NET charge. Anything more involved than a quick fix will require additional charges. You will not be contacted unless the charge to fix your file exceeds $15.00 NET.

Color Requirements

We now have an Accurate Color System you can send your files colored using the intended PMS color instead of having to color it using CMYK colors. Every effort will be made to print your intended color within acceptable standards.

Spot Color Printing

Please submit black and white bitmap images at 600 dpi and grayscale images at 300 dpi for standard spot printing.

Imprint Colors: Colors on paper may print differently on other substrates. The imprint colors are intended as a guide only, not an exact representation. PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® is not available.

Full-Color Process Printing

Every element of the file must be colored with process CMYK colors (no RGB, indexed color, etc.). If RGB or other non-CMYK colors are used in your files, the necessary conversion to CMYK will change the appearance of the colors when we print, sometimes dramatically.

Art Charges

Art charges will apply for layouts requiring special attention, i.e. artwork that is unsuitable for reproduction or disks that contain files that are not print ready and require manipulation. If you need scanning or design and typesetting performed, contact us for details on prep charges.

Art charges apply in addition to standard setup charges for manual orders. Setup charges include basic file checks including margins, bleeds, embedded/ outlined fonts and resolution of raster images.

NOTE: Add two production days for typesetting and design to the production time of the product. Listed production times will begin after artwork approval.

Enhanced Finishes Stocks

Press Proofs

Want to ensure that your order is perfect? Order a quantity of one! For Enhanced Finishes orders, you have the option to order a press proof of a single business card, announcement, or postcard for $33.50 (R) each before committing to the design. If your design needs adjusting, you can order another single print piece with the new design. Your press proof will ship at no charge via FedEx or UPS 2nd day air so that the product is in your hands quickly.

Digital Proofs

Digital proofs are provided at no charge on all online orders. Digital proofs on manual catalog orders are available for $15.00 (R) each. For proofs that require typesetting and design, see “Art Charges.” This is NOT a press proof and is approximate color only. This proof should be used to evaluate copy, color breaks, and art/photo placement. Production time starts after proof approval.

Templates

Standard templates are available to assist you in creating print-ready files. Import or place templates in your document as a non-printing reference guide. Proof your files before submission. Templates are available on the “Help & Resources” tab online.

Art & File Requirements:

• All Enhanced Finishes must be layered on top of CMYK art and set to Overprint

• All Enhanced Finishes must be set as a Spot color swatch and named according to the chart below

• Enhanced Finishes cannot bleed and must have a 1/8" margin from the trim edge

• Full color elements must be CMYK only

• Full color elements may bleed and should include a 1/8" bleed from the trim edge

• Full color elements must have a 1/8" margin from the trim edge on business cards, and a 1/4" margin from the trim edge on announcements and postcards

Our Enhanced Finishes Swatch Library can be installed on equipment that is running any Adobe product. This will give you access to our swatch colors and their mix settings to ensure that we print exactly what you create. PMS Colors

While we are often able to closely reproduce a spot PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM (PMS) ink using full color process, PMS spot colors and process colors are produced using different methods. Therefore, colors produced in full color will differ from PANTONE® spot colors, sometimes significantly. Please refer to the PANTONE COLOR BRIDGE® Plus Series for color conversions.

Printing Black vs. Black

Full Color Business Cards, Announcements, and Postcards with Enhanced Finishes should use 100% Black to ensure the best possible results on black elements. However, use Printing Black (C-80%, M-80%, Y-80%, K-95%) instead of 100% Black when in registration with other colors, in areas with heavy ink coverage, and for bold type or lines that are thicker than 21/2 points.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Variable Data

Variable data is when text or image on the product changes from sheet to sheet. This can include text, images, or both. Each product page will specify if variable data is available.

Products with variable text are easy to order; just provide the following:

• A mockup of what the finished product will look like

• All art or images (see “Electronic Guidelines”) and text to be printed on the item

• A database file, such as a CSV, that includes:

- The header, which is the first row of the spreadsheet that describes each column

- The database, which is the information that varies as shown below.

The database file is the variable information to be printed on the product, set up in a spreadsheet. Excel files are appropriate for most product lines; CSV files are preferred for labels and specialty products like badges and signs.

For variable images, include the names of the relevant image files in the spreadsheet and include an image placeholder in the proof. Be sure to submit image files along with the rest of the order. Variable Image orders require all files to be submitted and reviewed before a quote is provided. Please contact us for more information.

Electronic Guidelines

Color Requirements

We now have an Accurate Color System. You can now send your files colored using the intended PMS color instead of having to color it using CMYK colors, excluding Enhanced Finishes orders. Every effort will be made to print your intended color within acceptable standards.

Spot Color Printing

1. Raster Artwork: Submit black and white images or grayscale images at 600 dpi for standard spot printing. If raster artwork is placed into a layout program (InDesign, Quark, CorelDRAW, etc.), the artwork can be colored per our guidelines. (See “Coloring Your Files.”)

2. Vector Artwork: Every element of the file must be colored with spot colors (no RGB, CMYK, etc.). (See “Coloring Your Files.”)

Full Color Process Printing

1. We recommend a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for any Photoshop files or placed (raster) image for best quality.

2. Every element of the file must be colored with process CMYK colors (no RGB, indexed color, etc.).

3. If RGB or other non-CMYK colors are used in your files, the necessary conversion to CMYK will change the appearance of the colors when we print, sometimes dramatically.

4. Pantone® colors — While we are often able to closely reproduce a spot PMS® ink using full color process, PMS® spot colors and process colors are produced using different methods. Therefore, colors produced in full color will differ from Pantone® spot colors, sometimes significantly. Please refer to a Solid to Process Color Imaging Guide for color conversions.

5 Do not modify Pantone® colors from their original values. If your order is full color, any modified Pantone® colors MUST be processed out.

Printing Black vs. Black for Full Color

1. Full Color Flat — Use Printing Black (C80%, M80%, Y80% K95%) instead of 100% Black when in registration with other colors, in areas with heavy ink coverage and for bold type or lines that are thicker than 21/2 points.

2. Full Color Raised BC — Always use the CMYK percentages above for “Printing Black” regardless of registration or coverage.

3. Full Color Raised LH or ENV — Use Printing Black (C80%, M80%, Y80% K95%) instead of 100% Black when in registration with other colors, in areas with heavy ink coverage and for bold type or lines that are thicker than 21/2 points.

Application Requirements

PDFs — Macintosh® or IBM® Compatible

1. All fonts must be embedded.

2. All elements of the file must be colored per our guidelines.

3. All placed graphics and images need to be high quality, colored according to our guidelines (see “Coloring Your Files”) for the product ordered. Whenever possible, place vector images into the layout before converting to a PDF. Be aware that when changes need to be made to placed images (coloring, mode, etc.), there is the possibility of the quality being compromised.

4. Name the PDF’s without punctuation of any kind (except .pdf) or special characters. File names should be short.

Adobe® InDesign® — Macintosh® or IBM® Compatible

1. Change all text into outlines in your document.

2. If you are using an imported graphic in your InDesign® document, be sure to include or embed the original graphic file. Place graphics at 100%. Placed graphics need to be high quality or good vector art to receive the best quality printed product.

3. Save as an INDD file.

4. Color all text and graphics according to the color specifications for the type of product you are ordering. (See “Coloring Your Files.”)

Adobe® Photoshop® — Macintosh® or IBM® Compatible

1. Files must be saved as a TIFF without compression.

2. If using spot printing, do not color an image in Photoshop®.

3. Submit black and white bitmap mode images at 600 dpi and grayscale mode images at 600 dpi for standard spot printing. Images that come to Navitor® at a lower quality than what is recommended will be output as sent.

4. Color all text and graphics according to the color specifications for the type of product you are ordering. (See “Coloring Your Files.”)

5. All files need to be submitted at the size being used for printing.

6. If bleeds are needed, allow 1/8" (.125") on all sides unless otherwise noted.

Adobe® Illustrator® — Macintosh® or IBM® Compatible

1. Change all text into outlines in your document.

2. If you are using an imported graphic in your Illustrator® document, be sure to include or embed the original graphic file. Place graphics at 100%. Placed graphics need to be high quality or good vector art to receive the best quality printed product.
