L etter from the E ditor Congratulations on your engagement! You’ve found the love of your life, and now the excitement of planning what may be the most important day of your life is upon you. During this time of anticipation and expectation, it is easy to become overwhelmed by the multitude of projects involved with planning your wedding. As I spoke about in our last issue, I was fortunate enough to watch 5 friends take on this very same project in 2014. This was such a fun experience for me and such an honor to attend each of their own uniquely planned days. From the intimate destination wedding on the cliffs over looking Laguna Beach of Christy and Ben Balsbaugh’s nuptials, the late Summer country wedding at Blue Star Ranch for Christina and James Postma, to the classic-meets-modern event-spactacular black tie wedding
M 10
of Hilary and Daniel Price, attending 5 weddings in one year was a completely exhilarating experience. Not only did I have the honor of being a part of so many special days but I am lucky enough to have to opportunity to review thousands of pictures of newly engaged and married couples, searching through the details that each couple adds to make their wedding personal. I have talked with hundreds of newly engaged and newly married couples. It is these conversations that influence my decisions to add articles like “The Essential Guide to Engagement Ring Shopping” on page 12 or “Bridesmaids Dresses: 10 Tips for Choosing the Right Look” on page 48. Yes, some very helpful hints for keeping you and your bridesmaids happy and stress-free. With 48+ pages of Featured Weddings of local, newly married couples, it amazes me how some of the basic elements like flowers, fashion, and food can be customized to make each wedding as unique as each couple.
Hopefully you will spot some details from this issue (and every issue) that will help inspire you in your own wedding planning. I want to thank all of our reader’s, fan’s, follower’s, and the community for your support and enthusiasm with each and every issue we release. We are excited to complete our 7th issue and have already started planning our 8th. Bridal Couture Magazine has and continues to be a beautiful journey for me. Congratulations to all of our recently married and newly engaged couples! XO, Mira Jantz Publisher/Editor-in-Chief

THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO ENGAGEMENT RING SHOPPING Shopping for an engagement ring is an exciting time! But between the cut of the diamond, the style of the setting, and the quality of the stone, there is a lot to consider. We’ve turned to some of the industry’s best experts for smart tips to consider when buying an engagement ring.
WHAT MAKES A DIAMOND SPARKLE? The first thing you learn when you begin engagement ring shop1. ping is the four C’s of diamonds: cut, color, clarity, and carats. Which of these is responsible for your stone’s sparkle? The cut is the single determining factor that causes a diamond to sparkle. For a diamond to have the most brilliance, it needs to be proportioned properly and have a superior polish. That means a stone with a bigger surface area (width) isn’t necessarily better than a smaller stone with adequate depth to reflect light and create sparkle. CHOOSE YOUR STONE SHAPE, BUT LET HIM PICK THE REST The ring-buying process should be fun for your significant other, not a chore. “We see most couples browsing together before shopping to get an idea of what style they like,” says Ashton Woolley of Modesto’s Yates & Co. Jewelers. This is the time to select the stone shape, then he can come back to choose the rest. Since the stone size and clarity are often a function of the budget, limit your directions to elements that aren’t affected by the price, like a specific cut or setting style you like.
4.
2.
3.
THERE’S MORE TO AN ENGAGEMENT RING THAN THE DIAMOND When we think of engagement rings, we often focus on the stone, but the setting is what really determines the final product. If you can’t have the carat weight of your dreams, focus on creating a setting you love instead. You want to get a diamond that is beautiful, but the design is a representation of who she is and her personal style.
5.
WHICH SHAPE IS RIGHT FOR YOU? Just like shopping for a wedding dress, visit some jewelry stores to get familiar with the different shapes. Choosing the right cut will always be an instinctive decision. If you always revert to the same cut, it is the one. “Many of our couples are coming in and asking to see Princess Cuts and Cushion Cut Diamond Center Stones, which are becoming another high fashion trend,” explains Carla Ciccarelli of Ciccarelli Jewelers, Modesto. TO HALO OR NOT TO HALO? A halo ring is a beautiful ring style that features a “halo” circle or border of diamonds that surround a center diamond. A halo ring emphasizes and enhances the center stone, increasing the perceived diamond size, the diamond’s brilliance, and therefore the overall visual impact of the diamond. This type of ring has been popular since the 1920’s when glamour was the fashion rule. While this is a matter of personal preference, Alta Fernandes of Vail Creek Jewelry 6. Designs in Turlock says, “The halo setting continues to be the most popular look and customization can always be included.”

Before you go engagement ring shopping, it’s important to know the basics of ring cuts and shapes. From princess to emerald, find out the little details that make each ring cut unique. Cushion Cut
Emerald Cut
Asscher Cut
Marquise Cut
The Cushion Cut is a cross between a rectange and an oval; it has a pillow shape, and it is also called an “antique cut.”
An Emerald Cut (originally developed for the gem of the same name) is rectangular with cropped corners and long, stair-step-like facets.
An Asscher is similar to an emerald cut, but square, so it looks octagonal (the radiant is a popular variation of these but with facets that give it even greater sparkle).
The marquise is an oval with pointed ends.
Princess Cut
Round Cut
A very popular diamond cut, the princess cut is a brilliant square stone.
One of the most popular cuts for an engagement ring, the round cut is also a classic diamond shape. A round stone with 58 facets, it has the most sparkle.
Heart Cut
A heart-shaped diamond resembles its name, so the diamond is in the shape of a literal heart.
BRIDALCOUTUREMAG.COM
Pear Cut
A pear-cut diamond also resembles its name. An added bonus to the pear shape is that if you wear it with the point facing away from your body, it makes your finger look long and slender.

Aisle Style Metal, Fringe, Zig Zags, & More Some of our favorite gowns for the 2015 wedding season included rocker elements, like leather, lace and studs. Chevron and zigzag designs were featured heavily in the collection by Hailey Paige, using a variety of colors and mesh paneling to let the designs stand out. Bead work, stud work and embroidery hinted at an art-deco, geometric aesthetic, while chiffon dresses in pretty peach and slate blue colors stayed natural and feminine. Here are a few of our favorite looks.

Floral Crowns You’ve probably seen them in your daily Pinteresting, and we just couldn’t resist putting together a little piece on the return of the floral crown. Vintage, whimsical and bohemian inspired brides are all turning to the floral headdress, flower wreath headband or flower crown as a pretty, rustic, and in some instances DIY alternative to the traditional veil or headpiece. Harkening back to the 70’s flower child, these natural headpieces lend an organic feel to any bridal look. A step up from the daisy chains you wore as a little girl, the romantic crowns can be made with a variety of flowers, tailored to your wedding season. Attach a veil or wear it solo; what can be prettier than a bride with flowers entwined in her hair? Traditionally it was only the bride’s flower girls who wore the

crowns, but now everyone has taken a liking to them, including A-listers for their red carpet appearances. Even designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Maggie Sottero have included them onto their latest catwalk shows. Celebrities such as Margherita Missoni, Peaches Geldof and Kate Moss have been the latest brides to make this trend a part of their big day. Ashley Tisdale (left) chose a bridal wreath of baby’s breathe while Audrey Botti (right) along with her entire bridal party wore matching floral headpieces. “Flower crowns have been a huge trend for brides, some choosing to wear them during their reception for a more carefree and relaxed accessory,” explains Scot Woodman of Spellbound Crowns. “The Halo style is by far the more popular option for brides and bridesmaids.” Spellbound Crowns can be purchased at Etsy.com/SpellboundCrowns

Spotted: Hottest Hair Trends from Bridal Fashion Week
Will you be rocking mermaid waves or a mussed-up chignon on your big day? Without a doubt, the prettiest bridal hair trend for 2014 has to be flowers! As we mentioned on page 28, Zac Posen, Anna Sui and Dolce and Gabbana all used beautiful blooms to decorate their models on the catwalk and it’s a gorgeous look for real brides, too. From a big, blousy single bloom worn on the side of the head, to smalled flower heads pinned all over the hairstyle, this is one trend we’re sure we’ll see time and again over the coming months. If you’re growing your hair for the big day, or planning a wedding abroad, you may want to try one of the year’s hottest hair trend - mermaid waves, as seen on the Fall 2014 catwalk of many bridal designers. Undone hairstyles are also a hot look for brides wanting that boho look. Michael Kors showcased loose tangles around the face and this clever face-framing technique would also work for brides. Old World-style braids – perfect for brides planning a festive theme. For brides looking for some-
thing a little more styled, why not try an ornate ponytail? This looks especially pretty on brides when they are pulled around to the side. Want a glamorous look for an Art Deco-inspired day? It was all about the gold details Elie Saab – a warmer, fashionable alternative to silver or diamanté, pick up gold shades in your hair accessories and perhaps even on your gown. Aisle Style Bridesmaid Dresses: 10 Tips for Choosing the Right Look Find the Right Feel Take your time and decide how you want the bridesmaid dresses to complement your wedding gown. Find a style that evokes the same feel as your dress but doesn’t look too similar -- you don’t want your bridesmaids looking like the bride.
Don’t want to ruin your wedding by creating dress stress for your bridesmaids? Do check out these do’s and don’ts. Be a Good Friend The quickest way to perturb your best friends? Invite them to be in your bridal party, then turn them into fashion victims. Don’t dress your friends in something hideous so you’ll look better in comparison, and try not to choose bridesmaid dresses that make your maids look heavy or sexless. Tip::Remember that simple, elegant designs make every body happy. Don’t go over the top with lots of details, embellishments, and accessories.
One Size Doesn’t Fit All Search for a style that flatters the different sizes and shapes of your bridesmaids. Or consider choosing a color or a fabric and then letting each maid pick a style that will suit her. You wouldn’t want to cram a tall, voluptuous bridesmaid into the exact same style as a petite, skinny girl (totally unfair to either).
Color Them Beautiful Look for colors you like and think would look good on all of your friends (consider their complexions and hair colors). Brighter colors are generally more flattering, while pastel hues might look great on girls with fair complexions, but can be too distracting on friends with a darker complexion. Fill Their Closets Be kind -- don’t ask your friends to purchase a bridesmaid dress they absolutely wouldn’t be caught dead in ever again. Think about what your maids could do with the dresses after the wedding (sweater sets and skirts, little black dresses, and dark-colored slip dresses are all totally reusable). Covering the Cost Remember to think about everyone’s present financial situation.(A general price range for bridesmaid dresses is $160-300.) If you fall in love with a dress that’s a bit over their budgets, consider covering the difference yourself. Poll Your Pals Ask your bridesmaids to go dress shopping with you, but don’t bring them all at once if you have more than four. It will be way to hard to formulate your own opinion. Reusable Hues Dark-colored dresses like navy, hunter green, and black look great on almost every maid and can be worn to formal events later. Comfort Level If you’re considering strapless dresses or bridesmaid gowns that don’t accommodate bras, ask your bridal party if they would be comfortable in such a style before you decide.

Jeff started acting different, he was stalling and looking around. Mary turned and noticed their friends, Nelson and Lilia, were walking towards the couple smiling. She looked

A week after Jeff asked Mary to marry him, they were invited to dinner with Mary’s parents at their friends’ estate in French Camp. The group was celebrating and enjoying dinner when Jeff and Mary were asked to join their hosts out back for a glass of wine. It was an amazing

The couple was exclaiming how beautiful the house was when their hosts said, “We would love for you two to get married here.” Jeff and Mary were so surprised, they couldn’t say no. Everyone toasted and the wedding planning discussions started right then. Jeff and Mary love food and wine, and they wanted their wedding to reflect that. They procured wine barrels from Napa to decorate the venue and had Vincent Alvarado, the head chef at Dewz, make delicious and unique appetizers. Jeff and Mary’s dad chose the wine, while Mary picked out all the colors and centerpieces with her mom and best friends. It was crazy, stressful, and time-consuming, but they wish they could go back and enjoy every bit of it again.Congratulations Mary & Jeff

im and Deanna met at the perfect time in their lives. They had both had gone through so much to get to the point in their lives where they were ready to love and be loved in return. They started their relationship as friends who would just talk, text, and email each other many times throughout the day. One day Tim was craving a hamburger (while leaving work in Turlock) and all Deanna said was, “My FAVORITE is Umami Burger in SF. If you go have the Truffle Burger!” Four hours later there was a knock at Deanna’s front door and there was Tim with an Umami Truffle Burger for her and four different cheesecake slices for her daughter. Deanna felt that it was the most romantic gesture ever. Some time later Tim asked her to marry him on in Manhattan Beach. The couple originally planned to elope in Maui but Deanna’s daughter wanted to be there and the couple wanted to celebrate with family and friends. They decided a Sunday Brunch wedding at the beautiful Del Rio Country Club would be perfect. From there every detail quickly fell in to place.

hough the wedding of Hilary Leffler and Daniel Price culminated in a breathtaking fireworks display, the beginning of their relationship was more like a gentle smolder. “Danny and I met at work, of all places, and things slowly developed from there,” explains Hilary. With Danny’s shy disposition and Hilary’s mom being his boss, the start-up for the couple was a little complicated. However, friends became best friends, best friends became more, and the rest all eventually fell into perfect place.
Engaged in March of 2014, the couple decided on a fall wedding. Planning, therefore, began in earnest. Trusting Hilary’s vision implicitly, Danny left most of the design to his fiancée, but was present for the food tastings. The couple was very committed to getting married at ‘home,’ in the church in which Hilary was raised and Dan had joined. The Greek Orthodox Church meant so much to the couple due to its sacred traditions and beautiful Greek ceremony. They felt immensely blessed to be able to have their wedding there.
BRIDALCOUTUREMAG.COM

The theme for the decorations initially came from the linens from La Tavola, and that gave Hilary inspiration to use gold, black, and white décor elements. Hilary envisioned having the entire room draped and then uplighted to entirely transform the space. Tammy, their coordinator, switched the chandeliers at Del Rio with white lanterns to continue the warm and elegant feel the ceremony began and reception would continue. Tammy also surprised the couple by designing their initials into the center of the parquet black and white dance floor, which was such a personal touch. The flowers were designed to be artistic and simple, using a variety of levels and assortment of flowers on the tables.
M 64
One of Hilary’s favorite elements of the wedding was her dress. She initially found the design online and sent it to Mira at Mira Bridal Couture to see if it could be brought in. Mira’s answer was destiny. She had just gotten the dress into the store and pulled it to reserve it for Hilary. The bride-to-be came in for her appointment, fell in love with the dress, picked out shoes and accessories, and called it a day. Hilary explains, “That dress was the reason I felt like a bride on my wedding day. It was beautiful, magical, and helped set the tone for the entire day. Mira did an awesome job, and I am so grateful.” Because everyone that was invited to share in Hilary and Dan’s day had had

some impact on each of their lives, they wanted to give their guests an experience they would never forget. The attire was black tie, each guest got a personalized menu, and the tables were draped in gold-sequined floor-length cloths. As guests arrived at the reception they were greeted by the Men’s A Cappella Group from UC Berkeley. The patio and hallway were laden with gourmet cheese presentations from O’Brien’s and an endless assortment of traditional Greek treats. Guests were treated to ice carvings of the couple’s names, vintage furniture positioned on the lawn under canopies of white lanterns, and a poet that typed personalized poems on a classic typewriter for each and every guest. Oh yes, and the guests shared in the grand finale firework show that symbolized the love of a couple that had started slowly, but that was now a breathtaking example for all of their friends and family.

n a winter’s day in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, Daniel proposed to Jasmine while on the gondola up Heavenly’s scenic mountain side. Their wedding planning started immediately. Within 2 weeks Jasmine and Daniel booked the Roundhill Country Club for their ceremony and reception location. Their photographer, Lori Makabe came as a recommendation and the couple couldn’t be happier. “I don’t think we could have found a photographer more dedicated to our day,” explains Jasmine. As the couple started putting together the details of their wedding, Jasmine realized she had to change the direction of her original theme. She had thought she might go with a rustic theme, but with the country club and her gown as elegant as they were she knew she had to redirect her vision. She decided to use crystals, bright lights, and bold colors to create the dazzling setting she now wanted.

love of rustic and Keith’s sophisticated, classic, almost-vintage taste. The one element Kerrie knew she wanted was a special car. Her uncle has a collection of old vintage cars, and as soon as she was engaged Kerrie asked him if she could borrow one to drive in on with her dad. He knew immediately which car he wanted to lend them – a beautifully restored 1949 convertible Cadillac. Unfortunately, he thought their wedding was going to be later in the fall and he booked a trip to Europe at the same time!

icklaus and Whitley met at a mutual friend’s wedding in 2010. Their first date was one year later at a local yogurt shop. On July 4th 2013, Nicklaus proposed to Whitley at a neighborhood fourth of July BBQ. Nicklaus jokes that Whitley had their wedding planned within one day because the day following their engagement they were already touring venues. The most challenging part of their wedding planning was agreeing on a venue. Whitley wanted a rustic country theme, while Nicklaus’ only request was to have a large indoor dance floor. Hilmar Cheese Company met both of their needs: a beautiful rustic interior with an outdoor country vibe. When the planning began, Nicklaus and Whitley agreed on one thing: the wedding needed to involve the most important people in their life. Their bridal party consisted of their closest family and friends. They were married by Nicklaus’s childhood neighbor, a youth pastor. Every detail of their wedding included honoring those special to them. The couple included a lantern lit in loving memory of family members who are forever present in their hearts. Nicklaus’s main focus in planning the wedding was photography. While at-

tending a friend’s wedding in Seattle, the couple saw first hand the talented work of a local photographer. Luckily for Nicklaus and Whitley the photographer frequently shoots weddings in California and agreed to be part of their special day. Whitley’s main wedding planning tool was her team of bridesmaids, family and friends. Over the next few months, Whitley worked closely with one of her best friends and bridesmaid to coordinate all vendors and details. Nicklaus and Whitley’s sisters and close friends were essential in DIY projects. Close friends of the couple even volunteered to coordinate the wedding ceremony. Throughout the wedding planning process, Whitley and Nicklaus were very fortunate to have Whitley’s chosen mother, Darlene, by their sides. One day after work, Whitley, her best friend, and Darlene met for lunch and decided to go looking at wedding dresses to figure out Whitley’s bridal style. Whitley originally planned on wearing a vintage lace dress with sleeves. After visiting numerous bridal stores, Whitley found “the one”. Darlene was shocked to see Whitley come out of the dressing room at Mira Bridal Couture in a strapless gown with feathers. Throughout the night, Whitley received more compliments on her dress than any other detail of her wedding. The best advice Nicklaus and Whitley would give to engaged couples planning a wedding is to look at the person you want to grow old with to remind yourself of why you’re doing this. When the wedding day comes take a deep breath and live in the moment. Try not to stress about your hair, the flowers or even your seating chart. When it is all over, you will be married, and surrounded by the people who know you and love you the most.

Madison & Ross Brayton Married July 19, 2014

oss proposed to Maddison at her parents’ house. He had it all set up to surprise her at the front door, down on one knee with the ring in his hand so that right when she opened the door, her life would change forever. Instead, Maddison went out the garage and ruined the surprise that he had planned. She was still surprised with the ring and excitedly said ‘yes.’ The planning started the very next week because as a teacher, summer was really the only time Maddison had to get the planning done. The first thing the couple planned was to get the venue set. As an outdoorsy couple they knew that the venue had to be outside. Upon visiting East Lake Ranch they knew that it was the perfect venue for their wedding. Ross and Maddison loved the set up and how beautiful everything was there. For the design, Maddison was drawn to simple yet elegant, so she went for design elements with a shabby chic look. The venue didn’t need a lot of floral decorations, just a little pop of color, and they chose the color coral. Maddison thought that the coral would pop beautifully with all of the green and it did exactly that. Maddison asked her uncle build the Arch for her and Ross, feeling that the ceremony sight just needed something a little extra. Then her cousins Michele and Dawn took off with all of the decorations for the Arch and made it absolutely beautiful.

After the couple found the venue, and Maddison found her dress, everything else just came together. Pinterest was an inspiration for some of their ideas but all the decorations really came from Maddison’s cousins who came up with the decorations for the wedding, Michele and Dawn.

All of their vendors were so professional and helped the couple determine what they wanted by the first meeting; they never had to make any other appointments. Ross and Maddison made sure to add some fun elements as well, such as a cigar bar that was hosted by a family friend, and silly photos that captured the couple’s fun sides that were taken by Kori and Jared.

ominick and Courtnie spent a romatnic Valentine’s Day in San Francisco, while under the stars at Twin Peaks Dominick proposed. Courtnie and her mother started the planning immediately. After touring several venues, The River Mill met the couples vision. The combination of the beautiful grounds, Roasting Room with the fireplace, and the ammenities included made their decision simple. Courtnie wished for warm colors and decided to continue the romatic feel by encompassing a candlelit ceremony in front of the grand fireplace. With this theme in mind, the groom and groomsmen opted for a classic bow tie tuxedo and the bridsmaids in an espresso floor length chiffon gown. “Most importantly I wanted to keep my look timeless,” explained Courtnie. Working with her make-up artist, Jocelyn to create this look was simple. Selecting a bold red lip color with the simplicity of her gown and hair style was the exact look she desired. Overall, the entire wedding came together as expected.

Kirsten & Brandon Handy Married September 19, 2014 Brandon and Kirsten got engaged on January 2nd of 2014 and immediately started looking for a wedding venue. With her busy work schedule she took a leap of faith and let her mom and Brandon go out and look at venues without her. The couple knew they wanted to have an outdoor wedding since they are both so fond of nature. Only a few had to be visited before Kirsten got a call from Brandon telling her about Wildwood Acres Resort. Without even seeing it, she told him to go ahead and reserve the date. The rest fell into place so easily. The venue had the perfect team of preferred vendors from cake, to flowers, to DJ who were all so familiar with working together they made the planning and the big day run seamlessly. All that was left to do for Brandon and Kirsten was to make the day all about their new life together. They decided it would only be fair if they each got to pick one color to make the

wedding feel like part of each of them. Brandon picked gray, and Kirsten picked her favorite sea foam green. Kirsten let the bridesmaids pick their own style and length of dress because she knew they’d feel happier and more comfortable if they felt beautiful too. They knew from the beginning that they wanted the wedding to have the rustic charm and connection with the nature that they both love so much, and that they wanted it to feel ethereal. From the moment the guests arrived to the time they left Brandon and Kirsten wanted the atmosphere to be magical, like something out of a fairytale. The white ice roses and baby’s breath were the perfect little additions to bring the illusion of snow to a summer night.

Fiona & Chase Bracco Married June 28, 2014

BRIDALCOUTUREMAG.COM
T
he story of Chase and Fiona started around 12 years ago with bad timing, the wrong birthday present, and a not-so-great first date. Fast forward ten years later to perfect timing, persistence and the couple being in the right place in each of their lives, and magic happened. Chase’s and Fiona’s wedding journey began on November 1st at Tresetti’s, their first meeting place 12 years earlier and a favorite hangout of both. Chase had planned the proposal two weeks prior
by purchasing the ring from Ciccarelli Jewelers and telling the family about his plans to surprise Fiona. Under the guise of “stopping to have a drink at Tresetti’s,” Chase seized the opportunity to get down on one knee and, through nervous tears, ask Fiona to marry him.
like that was kept during two weeks of planning in this small town. Two days later they had a wedding date, and within three weeks the Dress, the venue and the save the dates were all acquired.
Once Fiona said “yes,” Chase asked, “Do you want to tell the family?” When Fiona said “yes” again, he turned her around to the beautiful sight of thirty family members and closest friends all there to celebrate the couple’s happiness. It was incredible to know that a secret
A local wedding was definitely the right choice for the couple, with so many people traveling from over the pond and throughout the United States. Even Fiona’s 93 year-old nana, May, made the journey from England to be a part of this incredible day. Chase and Fiona

wanted an outdoor setting, as they both love to spend their time riding their cruisers, golfing or kayaking down the river. Vintage Gardens, with their beautiful garden and redwood trees, was the perfect setting. The couple booked June 28 as the day they would say “I do.” After the proposal Fiona and her Mum went to Mira Bridal Couture and found the perfect dress. She tried on so many as the walls were lined with dozens of beautiful gowns to choose from. Fiona chose a dress with an elegant beaded bodice and a skirt with layers of flowing soft organza. Chase, the dads, groomsmen and ring bearers all looked dapper in their Calvin Klein tuxedos, which Mira Bridal also helped coordinate. Chase and Fiona wanted a simple and elegant wedding. After many hours of scrolling through Pinterest and flipping through bridal magazines they decided on a color scheme of yellow and pewter. The two colors just seemed timeless and sophisticated. The guest table seating chart was hung amidst some of their favorite pictures together as a couple. Willow Floral Design did the arrangements and bouquets, and did an excellent job of tying in the color yellow by including roses, orchids, china mums and soft yellow lisianthus. The bridesmaids looked beautiful in strapless pewter chiffon dresses accented by an elegant necklace with a pop of yellow.
M 94
Johnny and Kelly, being childhood friends of the Groom, were the obvious choice for the reception. They were even prepared for the bride’s Englishfamily tradition of “The Ministry of Silly Walk” dance, inspired by a Monte Python sketch. During speeches the bride’s seven-year-old niece, Reese, gave a speech toasting her Auntie and new Uncle, “The moment I met you, I knew you would be my uncle.” Reese delivered it with much love and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! The wedding was exactly what Chase and Fiona had hoped it would be: a day full of love, family and friends celebrating their beautiful day and bright future together. After dancing the night away, Chase and Fiona left the wedding though a line of guests holding up sparklers. The perfect glittering end to a magical day that was only the beginning.
Congratulations Fiona & Chase

2013. The first six months Amit and Camila focused on getting accustomed to the city, settling into new roles at the company, and finding a place to call home. It was early 2014 when they finally got back to wedding planning. They were a bit scared of planning a wedding in less than eight months, but it all worked out perfectly. Because Camila is from Brazil, and Amit, although born in Canada, has family in India, they knew their guests would fly in from all over the world to

join them on their big day. They wanted to create an intimate ceremony where everybody would feel close to them, and the couple wanted to be surrounded by people that they deeply care about. That was the theme of their wedding. Amit and Camila knew they wanted to have their celebration outdoors. They now lived in the beautiful state of California, and wanted to take advantage of
the gorgeous views and redwood forests. The venue they found, The Mountain Terrace, couldn’t have been more perfect! It offered so much natural splendor and that led the couple to choose colors that would not compete with the nature. Instead, they wanted colors that would reinforce that beauty. Their palette consisted of soft pink blush, sage, ivory, and gold.
The bride and groom also had a challenge in bringing both Indian and Brazilian cultures to the event. After experimenting with different ideas, they realized that Brazilian music is their favorite genre, and Indian food their favorite cuisine. With that in mind, they brought Brazilian Samba performers for their day and offered their guests a beautiful Indian dinner. Both families were thrilled!

While Amit and Camila were expecting around 50 guests to attend their wedding, the RSVP list had 75 guests confirmed! Over 70% of guests were coming from another city within the US or from a different country altogether. Even though the number was higher than initially estimated, every single person in attendance at the wedding was there because of a strong relationship that the couple had with them and their family. That created a very special atmosphere, where everyone could feel the genuine love and enjoy themselves amongst real friends.

Christina & James Postma Married August 9, 2014
In April 2010 the Modesto Bee published “Achy Breaky Hearts Aflutter in Oakdale” and Christina’s dad was quick to ask if she had any luck in love that Rodeo weekend. Well, 2010 was not her year, but one short year later Christina spotted James at the H-B, and the rest is history. A couple years later while enjoying a cold, December afternoon in James’ almond orchard, James teasingly said that he was not going to buy an engagement ring but would make one out of wire and a piece of gravel for Christina and that she needed to pick out her rock. To her dismay he was out of wire but James got down on one knee anyways, pulled out a beautiful ring and proposed. Shortly after the excitement of the holidays and celebrating their engagement, the couple decided on an August wedding and the planning began. Both Christina and James come from large Dutch families with farming backgrounds, and so they chose an elegant style wedding in a country setting. In the presence of 240 of their closest friends and family the couple married at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank, CA where Christina’s family has been parishioners for 20+ years. The reception followed at James’ grandma’s private residence, which also occupies his father’s heifer ranch, in Oakdale, CA. The reception was set with a mix of rectangular farm tables and round white linen tables, decorated with mercury glass and neutral-toned flowers. Fifty curious heifers watched as guests dined on late-night brick oven pizza under market lighting and market umbrellas. The guests were also treated to an open bar featuring fantastic Napa wines. The assembly of friends and family got to witness the couple’s Dutch cousins singing God
