A Note from the Publisher / Editor-in-Chief From Mira Jantz, Publisher / Editor-in-Chief Bridal Couture Magazine
With so much press, social media, and reality T.V. geared towards weddings, the wedding and events coordinating industry has developed dramatically in the past few years. I am elated to see such changes as traditional menus of tri-tip and chicken evolving into offerings of meals that are organic and glutenfree. Photography has flourished to art and couples have made an art-form of including unique and personal elements into their ceremonies as a part of the D.I.Y. movement. Yet, as we alter and redesign the mechanics and logistics and looks of ceremonies over time, the one constant that remains is love. Included in this season’s issue are several touching stories of local couples and their journey to forever. I, personally, have had the opportunity to meet many of the couples included in our engagement announcements and featured-wedding layout which makes this issue all the more meaningful to me. I am forever touched by their stories, their openness, and their laughter; every emotion is infectious. For the reader it may not be a surprise, as you flip through and read BCM, to see a familiar face or two. I am very pleased as BCM’s audience rapidly expands that we can continue to bring our readers local content, access to local vendors, exposure to local models, and highlights of local weddings. Supporting the force of locally-owned business is a passion of mine. I hope this passion will spread to our whole community as couples plan their big day by seeking out the experts that truly understand the meaning of YOUR day and the personal touches you desire. The professionals that do this every day understand how important each marriage is; they are experts that work diligently to run their small business and bring quality and integrity to the work they will provide to you and your family and friends. As you plan your event, utilize BCM as your thorough reference guide for interviewing and hiring the perfect fit for you of any of the hard-working, knowledgeable, and talented individuals featured in this and all BCM issues. As always, the BCM team appreciates couples from our area sharing their wedding and engagement stories with us. It is all of you that the magazine is about and for. Enjoy this latest issue of Bridal Couture Magazine and we hope to see you all at UNVEILED 2013! to happen behind - the - scenes .
UNVEILED 2012 was held in Modesto’s Sky Trek Airport in the private hangar of Dan and Denise Costa, a local couple known for their business acumen as much as their charitable contributions. The 32,000 square feet hangar seated over 400 guests after they mingled and sipped cocktails in the plush red velvet lounge set opposite of the runway. Two of Costa’s private jets loomed in the background, setting the scene for the impressive space. The red carpet was rolled out and guests were treated like celebrities as they had their photo taken by photographers in front of the step-and-repeat sponsor board. Then greeted and directed by 2 flight attendants at the end of the red carpet, guests entered the lounge and enjoyed Barefoot Wine & Bubbly and High Roller Vodka, as well as beautiful appetizers by Galletto Ristorante and Fuzio Universal Bistro. Meanwhile, behind the drapes set up by JCD Atmospheric Studios, 22 models were busy getting their hair styled and make-up done by Bella Vagos. The energy backstage was electric as the models checked their clothing and accessories and made sure they were ready for any quick-changes. Accessories such as aviator sunglasses and fur-lined pilot caps were being paired with swimwear and last minute pressing was taking place.

Video was taken by Echo Media Production and the Sounds and Music was provided by Sounds in Motion. Sounds in Motion is owned by George Gonzalez, whose wife, Erin, was one of the show’s models for the 3rd year in a row. The fashions shown were from Mira Bridal Couture, Aqua Bliss, and Kenneth’s Fine Menswear. Event Producer and President of Mira Bridal Group Inc. spent countless hours pulling in the details, from the music selections, event design, model auditions and fittings and styling of the runway looks. “I am thrilled that our community was so supportive for a fashion event of this magnitude and am excited for next years event.” Mira Jantz is currrently planning UNVEILED 2013 scheduled for January 24, 2013.

Meredith Stojanovich & John Moody Since the beginning of written literature, romance novels and stories of the “Knight in Shining Armour” have succeeded in striking the right chord for love and passion. Such stories as ‘La Belle Dame sans Merci’ or ‘Pride and Prejudice’ conjure up the belief that these moments, of a man riding in to claim his love, may actually take place. Meredith Stojanovich experienced one of these romantic moments. On July 7th her boyfriend, John Moody, prepared an afternoon of fairy-tale depth. Importing a suit of armour from Europe, lassoing up several frineds to help him get dressed and lift him up on the horse, a trumpeter in place, and photographers in place, John arranged for Meredith to arrive and wait for her prince in the Vine Arbor at Galletto. Little did she realize her Prince was about to stroll in on horseback as a shining Knight to propose marriage. Meredith’s son, met her at the limo and escorted her to her seat. As the patio doors opened, the trumpeter began playing and emotions set in. “Sir John” strolled in, sprung from his horse and walked towards Meredith and her son. As he asked her son for
permission to marry Meredith, tears and excitement filled the Vine Arbor. John bent to one knee and Meredith graciously accepted his hand, his love, his proposal. The couple will be married August 5, 2012 at Galletto Ristorante.

This style looks great on women who have a bigger bust, butt, waist, hips, or anyone who has wanted to wear a mermaid dress but was uncomfortable with a tight midsection. Try on this romantic look and love the reflection in the mirror.

Bride by Nature Inspired

Organic Milieu
Organic and whimsical is how Jamie Bearg describes her photographic style for the Bride by Nature photoshoot that is the subject of this month’s BCM cover. “I love to capture moments,” Jamie says, “by using different angles.” Her goal with a photoshoot is to shoot in natural light to create shadows and enhance the appearance of the subject. “The interaction of light and shadow is fascinating. Light can make the subject feisty or dull while shadows can make the subject mysterious and romantic.” The Bride by Nature photoshoot was inspired not only by women she has met who were definitely “meant to be beautiful, glowing brides” but also by the almond orchard by which Jamie frequently drives. Jamie explains, “It’s so beautiful, mature, and well-maintained. It just always seemed to catch my eye and I began to imagine what kind of wedding would be fitting for a location like that.” Jamie strived to create a capricious and couture feel for the shoot. She knew it had to be high-fashion and make a statement without being overdone. It also had to feature aspects of the surrounding nature.

“Life without love is like a tree without blossom and fruit.” -Khalil Gibran
To pull the look together Jamie and vendors utilized antique silverware, wood invites and wood table numbers, simple yet gorgeous flowers and linens, boldly natural chairs, a lovely model and a majestic horse. Jamie recommends this style of photography to any couple looking for photos that will capture their unforgettable moments with much depth, feel and emotion. Aisle Style Fifty Shades of Fun Christian and Ana. There is a slim chance these names mean nothing to the BCM reader. Yet odds are, the names are very familiar and send chills up the spine of anyone who has read the Fifty Shades of Grey Series. If you’ve read the book, or the entire series (while going sleepless for a week while devouring each line of every page in all three books) you know that a theme for the heroine is sexual awakening, learning to trust her partner, and finding excitement in mutual pleasure. The editors at BCM had the idea to take these themes and the flavor of the series as inspiration for some engaging and unique bachelorette party ideas.
Lessons in performing Pole & Lap Dances:: Imagine the opening beats of “Beast of Burden” by the
Rolling Stones, and your lover’s face as you treat him or her to a private lap dance. Pole dance studios here in the area offer bachelorette party packages that give women the opportunity to learn some simple skills of seduction. The classes can also boost the confidence of brides and their maids which is a key ingredient in the recipe of intimacy.
An Evening Exploring Intimate Apparel & Accessories:: Do you know somebody, or have a friend of a friend, who knows much more than you do about intimate apparel and accessories? Host an evening in and have that friend take you through a repertoire of exciting and naughty bedroom implements, and if you don’t know already, explain to you what each item is for. Just a Night of Being Naughty:: A final idea is to do what ladies have been doing for decades: going out on the town and just being sweetly wicked for one whole night. How would Fifty Shades fit into this scenario? Lock her wrists with a textured grey tie or simple handcuffs, blindfold her and bring in a trio (or quartet!) of hot Christian Greys to tempt her, tease her, and fulfill one small, innocent fantasy before the party is over. Remember to have her and the rest of the party sign an N.D.A and save taking pictures for the wedding. This night might not be something she is willing to share.

Aisle Style Sketch
the D ress Every young girl interested in fashion, and each budding designer, knows that an idea for a gown begins with a sketch. What Vatana Watters understood though, and what has made her designs and companies powerhouses in the bridal and formal wear industries for over two decades, is that the sketch is where it starts; it isn’t where the design ends.
The Odette sketch below gives life to the important details like being strapless and designed a-line with a washed silk organza overlay and a sweep train. Yet only when the bride puts the gown on does it really begin to live and enhance the wearer. The beaded lace strips on the bodice boosts the womanly form. The a-line and overlay causes it to appear as though the bride is floating on air. And the satin ribbon enhances the waist at its narrowest point, further flattering the woman’s figure.
HERA
ODETT
E
The Hera sketch shows a strapless gown with drop-waist features. Still, until a woman tries it on, it isn’t obvious that the embellished feather lace bodice and chapel train lend Oscar-worthy glamour to the gown that will surely make a statement as the bride walks up the aisle towards her leading man.

There’s so much for couples to consider as they tailor their big day to be a special event for themselves and their guests. One of the decisions that may affect many guests is whether or not to invite children to the reception. There are many factors involved, and if you’re torn with the idea, here are a few things to keep in mind. 1) Venue::Abby Bullock’s reception was in a friend’s backyard with a pool right in the middle of the tables. “We didn’t want to be stressed out that a child would fall into the pool, but it made an amazing centerpiece for our reception.” Destination weddings can also be more difficult on parents and providing childcare in a strange venue is not easy to plan. 2) Alcohol::“We’re having an open bar at our reception and wouldn’t feel comfortable having children around. Not only that, but I want their parents to let down and enjoy the party” said Sarah Vargas who had an adult only reception on June 9th in Manteca, CA. 3) Formal Reception::Planning to have a black-tie, 4-course dinner and open bar? A lot of the etiquette involved would lost on children. Crayons and punch don’t mix with silk and fine china. One bride found tiny chocolate handprints on her

Once you make you decision, wording your invitation is very important. It used to be that saying “adults only” was considered to be a breach of etiquette, but weddings have evolved to where it’s more important to avoid confusion rather than follow tradition. Make it very clear for guests to see so they have all the information before sending in their RSVP. “On the bottom of our invitations we wrote ‘Adult-only reception to follow,’” said Shelby McManus-Anderson. “We had to make some phone calls telling them it was an adult only, and people understood. Some had to back out, but there were no hurt feelings.” Some couples might opt to call certain families before the invites go out to make sure that the intent of the

Aisle Style Selecting the right Venue & Caterer There are several key elements that go into selecting the right location and food for your wedding reception. We’ve pulled together the Central valley’s leading venues and catering companies, whether your looking for our bridal shower, party or wedding. Before starting, consider these questions:: 1. How many guests do you plan on inviting? Considering some venues do not seat more then 200 guests, this could be a determining factor for you. The only way to work that venue into your wedding is to cut the guest list back. If you’re looking into a caterer, can they provide adequate staff to meet the amount of guests? 2. Is there a private area for the wedding party? Before and during the reception, you and your wedding party will want some privacy to freshen up or just relax in between pictures, dancing, and entertaining. 3. Is the space comfortable? Once you bring in your florist, rentals, d.j., and guests, will you have enough room to mix & mingle?

4. Are you required to rent the tables and chairs, and if so did you add this in your budget? 5. Does the venue charge for an outside caterer and baker if you prefer to bring your own in? 6. Does their menu offer the variety you need or are they willing to be flexible? 7. Most importantly, can you afford it? To find the right venue for your event, visit BridalCoutureMag.com. Aisle Style H ey M r . DJ K eep P layin ’ A song can remind a couple of their first glance, first kiss, or first dance. The music at the wedding is what sets the tone of the event, so choosing the right entertainment is at the top of most couples “to-do” list. The Valley is home to many professionals who know how to musically usher a bride down the aisle as well as start the reception on the right note. What started as a small hobby turned into an entertainment empire for George Gonzalez, owner and founder of Sounds in Motion. As a kid he played music for all the family functions, until his Mom encouraged him to go into his own business, which he did in 1988. Sounds in Motions currently entertains around 250 weddings a year. George encourages couples to allow requests at the wedding because “no one knows your guests better than themselves.” People have gone to great lengths to hire George. Around 7 years ago, he received a phone call at his office, and the person on the other line asked if his name was George. Confirming that it was he, and that he had DJ’d her middle school dance a number of years back, she screamed and asked if she could come to the office to meet him. She’d gone through the entire yellow pages trying to track him down to hire for her wedding, all from a memory of a school dance. More recently, a memory that stands out for George is a couple that moved the wedding up because the bride’s father had terminal cancer. In her thank you note, she exclaimed, “You did the best job and are so incredibly good at what you do! Your enthusiasm the entire night was contagious for the entire guest list…. I don’t have words to express how forever grateful we are to you for making our wedding day the best of our lives.” Johnny and Kelly have been playing the local scene for nearly 14 years, and those who have heard them perform are instant fans. What most people don’t know is that they not only provide live entertainment but also DJ and MC services. Knowing that every wedding is something specific to each couple, these two are talented enough to musically do what is asked of

them, “Stylistically, our repertoire consists of a wide range of music that people can sing along and dance to. We can also play instrumental music for ceremonies or other occasions where that is more appropriate.”

I’ve been in the business for myself since 2006, but I’ve been DJing over 20 years.” When Michael and his wife Lindsay married in November 2009, Neil Buettner was the band at his reception. “Having Neil sing seemed to fit us and our style. That’s what is great about all the business in town—people have options to find the best DJ, singer, or entertainment that fits their personality as a couple.” Michael works about 45-60 weddings a year and knows how important it is to meet with the future bride and groom to tailor the event to their needs. Some need an emcee to host the reception and some simply need someone to play the dance music. The craziest things Michael has ever seen at a wedding? “One wedding was outside in 102 degree heat. The couple bought 4 of the same buttercream cake, so when one cake melted, it would be cleaned up and a new cake put on display. They went through 2 cakes before the sun set and cake #3 was the winning cake the couple sliced in front of their guests.”

One of their most memorable wedding moments was when they recently played at a wedding where the bride paid tribute to her deceased parents by providing her guests with wish lanterns which were released just after sunset. Hundreds of wish lanterns lit up the night sky and the sight was breathtaking. It was a fitting tribute and a lovely moment for all those in attendance.

Kate Trompetter & David Rogers Married June 2, 2012
It seemed like the Facebook wires were burning up covering Kate’s wedding. No, not Kate Middleton. On June 2, 2012 the Facebook feeds were busy streaming several delightful details (and photos) of the ceremony uniting Kate Trompetter to David Rogers.

Knowing That Love is to Share
Chances are, with 300 guests in attendance, mostly local vendors providing all services for the celebration, and the couple’s level of involvement in the community, many BCM readers will have already heard about Dave and Kate’s day. Yet word-of-mouth and social networking could never capture the intimate and personalized particulars of a party that was planned as a celebration of relationships. Only the couple could provide those, and they agreed to share them with BCM. A point of pride for both Dave and Kate was that no MC was needed for the event. “It all came together seamlessly,” explained Dave. “From the mingling, to the ceremony, to the toasts, it all just flowed.” It’s a modest statement coming from the drummer who kicked off the festivities by marching in with a drumline. Dave described the reason for inviting Enochs High to play their cadence with him for his entrance as “a way to make our guests aware that the ceremony was starting. We didn’t want to have someone get on the microphone and say ‘please move to the chuppah so that the ceremony can begin.’ The battery was a surprise to most everyone, although Kate admits “I probably only kept it a secret from about 90% of our guests.” After making his way in through the crowd of their family and friends, Dave joined Kate under the chuppah and the ceremony commenced with Marci D’Arpino officiating. The couple had made the decision to not have chairs for the ceremony so their guests stood (for less than 15 minutes) as the vows were read and rings were exchanged. The vows were adapted from a poem Dave’s father had written for Dave’s mother in 1972. Kate’s and Dave’s wedding rings were ones they had made themselves with the help of the Wedding Ring Experience. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dave broke the traditional glass by stomping on it. The glass was a gift and came in a pouch that gives Kate and Dave the option to send it back to the vendor, who will turn around and make it into a mezuzah for the couple’s home. Another unique element to Kate and Dave’s day? “We chose not to have a wedding party,” Kate explained, “but toasted our ‘inner circle’ of about 30 of our closest family and friends in an intimate moment prior to the official ceremony.”

“Here, There, Everywhere.” To hear the couple give an account of their reception, or party portion of the day, gives the sense that excellent food and exceptional music were the evening’s aim. The menu was designed by Paul Tremayne of Concetta and included (but wasn’t limited to) poached salmon, ribs, ravioli, beets, and watermelon salad. Pure Love Baking provided the desserts of vegan mini cupcakes and vegan mini donuts which were served with exquisite coffee from Serrano Social Club. While three quarters of the guests dined at “farm tables” provided by JCD Atmospheric Studios, everyone else got to pick a blanket from a basket and enjoy the meal picnic-style. “It was so amazing to walk around and see families, little kids, all gathered on blankets enjoying the food and time together,” said Kate. Music was just as sensational as the food. Neil Buettner, who introduced the couple, was on-hand to perform the song for the first dance. Dave and Kate danced to Neil’s arrangement of the Beatles’ “Here, There, Everywhere.” Music for the evening’s festivities was performed by local band Hot Club Faux Gitane and a band out of San Francisco, Big City Revue. Perhaps the most special musical moment of the evening, however, came when friend Jeff Bonilla unveiled his arrangement of “Stand by Me,” which he wrote in the style of the “Playing for Change” movement. Each separate musician, all friends, came in at a different moment in the song until all were performing together to produce an almost symphonic sound. “Everything good Dave and I had ever done in our lives came back to us at our wedding.” their wedding has been overwhelming and humbling. Their guests had an amazing time and were touched by the inclusion of Dave’s sons, Zyan and Seth, in the ceremony. The couple also explained that though the wedding was their vision, the actual implementation of the vision was made entirely possible by Kate’s mom, Dawn Cunningham. “Everyone who was involved with this wedding got a list from my mom,” Kate shared. When asked what thoughts came to mind as they relived their day, Kate and Dave had a few practical tips and a couple of profound insights. Because they started early it was easy for them to stay with local and organic vendors. They were able to make welcome baskets for out of town guests with products procured entirely from Farmer’s Market. Dave shared the thought that came to his mind frequently was that it was so important during planning to stay calm and remember that no matter how much work goes into it, nothing will ever be ‘perfect’ but it will be the couple’s perfect day. And the thought that sprang to Kate’s mind? “It felt like everything good Dave and I had ever done in our lives came back to us at our wedding. It was beautiful and very touching.”

Sarah & Jeremy DeBoer Married July 7, 2012
Imagine going through the work of planning your dream wedding. Then, imagine that whole plan literally going up in flames. That is exactly what happened to Sarah Bollerud and Jeremy DeBoer of Modesto on one fateful night this past December when they found out that the McHenry Mansion had caught fire. Sarah and Jeremy had booked the mansion as a venue for their summer wedding after considering other options. “We chose the mansion for the price, location, and the adorable backyard. I grew up in Modesto, and he grew up in Hickman, so we definitely wanted somewhere close to our families and friends. We took half of our wedding money and bought a home pretty close by, so we originally wanted to have the wedding reception in the backyard of our new home, but figured the price and location, we could not beat it,” said Sarah. For Sarah, the text from a friend letting her know that the mansion was on fire hit particularly close to home. “I have lived in a home that caught fire so that is not a good feeling,” she said. “Seeing the fire trucks and all the people was very scary. A little too reminiscent of what I have already been through. Then to realize what has been lost to Modesto was sad as well.” The McHenry Mansion has survived a storied existence since it was built in 1883. At one point, it housed a sanitarium and for an even longer period of time, it served as an apartment complex. Through it all, the mansion still stands and serves as a reminder that much like a marriage, change and hardship can be overcome with care and dedication. Sarah and Jeremy were married as planned on July 7th under a beautiful summer sky during a ceremony that was designed to be a casual celebration of their love for 160 of their closest family members and friends to enjoy. White paper lanterns and crystal chandeliers created a soft blanket of light that reflected gently off the reinvigorated mansion that was even fully dressed in it’s patriotic red, white, and blue bunting for the occasion.

Louie & Stephanie Borba Married November 19, 2011 While enjoying a sushi dinner date at Modesto Sushi Garden, Stephanie & Louie witnessed a proposal at a table across from them. Afterwards, Stephanie made it clear that Louie better not propose if she was dressed like the new bride-to-be next to her-right after a work out and still in gym clothes. With their love for a great obnoxious story, Louie did just that. On a dinner date to Sushi Garden in Turlock, Louie was so excited to propose that he only got as far as the parking lot before asking Stephanie to marry him..in her workout clothes..and after much convincing that it was not a joke, she said yes. During the next six months, with the help of her mom, maid of honor, and future sister-in-law, the planning process went effortlessly. Reinforcements were definitley needed as the final head count for their wedding was around 650 guests. Four days

On November 19th, 2011, their photographer, Stephanie Baker, cautioned Stephanie that Louie was very emotional, She didn’t believe it. But as she started to walk down the aisle and saw him crying, she was overwhelmed with love and joy. Apart from that unforgettable moment, the bride and groom enjoyed every minute of connecting to all guests that made their day memorable. Denae & Daniel de Graff Married April 14, 2012 It all began with an ugly sweater party. In full commitment to the cause, Denae went in head-to-toe grandma attire. As she left the house, her mom even cried out “You’re never going to meet a boy dressed like that!” Little did she know that was furthest from the truth because that night Denae met Daniel. Ironically, their grandmas are actually best friends. They knew right away it was meant to be and after just three months of dating, on a trip up to Pinecrest, Daniel asked Denae to marry him. Before she said yes she asked, “Did you ask my dad?”. He had of course, and they spent the next year planning their dream day. Throughout the planning process, they strived to continuously incorporate their Dutch heritage and agricultural upbringing. All the way down to the small details. At the church, guests were offered Dutch mints and towards the end of the celebrations Denae’s grandma made “ham buns” for everyone to snack on. Since both fathers are farmers, they also created one of a kind boutonnieres:

the bride’s father was given one with almonds and the groom’s dad one with wheat. Additionally, the bride and groom went on adventures, hunting for treasure in their families barns to use in their wedding decor’. They discovered many old milk bottles, scales, ropes, and canning jars which they sprinkled throughout their tables as center pieces. In so many ways the families heritage and memories of the past shun throughout their day making every moment all the more memoreable.

Samantha & Rob Van Horn Married June 11, 2011 High school sweethearts madly in love. Rob never could have known that sneaking into the Sadie Hawkins dance Samantha helped organize would change his life forever. After dating for four years, they were engaged and the planning process began. It proved challenging at many points as their venue announced it had double booked itself and they cycled through two cake vendors before finding the perfect one. In the end though, their dream of an intimate wedding became a success.
One of Samantha’s most cherished memories for the day lies in a gift from the women in her family. As her ‘something old, new, borrowed, and blue’ they took a small blue ribbon and laced the wedding rings of her mom, future mother-in-law, aunt, and two grandmas together as a bracelet for her to wear with her dress. The examples of these marriages are something Samantha holds dear to her heart.

Among the many DIY creations that also made their day special, Rob and Samantha took empty picture frames and wrote several favorite qualities about each other that they love, placing them on display for their guests to read under the titles of He & She. After the wedding they hung them in their home as a constant reminder. Samantha’s advice to future brides: stay organized and in constant contact with your vendors, relax, and don’t forget to be present in every moment as it’s fleeting and every minute should be cherished.

Lakynn & Nick Seward Married October 1, 2011 If Lakynn had known she was asking her future husband to Hilmar’s Morp/Sadie Hawkins high school dance, she may or may not have been as brave. Throughout the next seven years Nick and Lakynn dated. It was at his college graduation dinner, at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo that he proposed to the love of his life. During the year and a half of their engagement, the planning process flowed effortlessly. Nick was determined to be as involved as Lakynn, and together they planned the wedding of their dreams.
On the morning of their big day, Lakynn and her mom sped off for a morning run as they had done many times before, for some last minute quality time together. Later, guests watched as Nick & Lakynn became Mr & Mrs Seward and ushers lit candles in remembrance of those who couldn’t be there to share in the joy of their day. As the festivities continued into the night, Nick and Lakynn served their guests dinner in His & Her aprons, sparklers lit the night sky for their first dance, and the dance floor was never empty. It was truly the night they had dreamt up together and will most definitely never forgotten.

Samantha & Kyle Perez Married June 8 , 2012 For Samantha and Kyle, it took a collective effort to get everything together for their wedding day. The bride’s parents offered their house as the location for the reception, which it meant a lot to the bride because it was the house that she grew up in. Samantha knew that this offer did not come lightly: the offer meant many hours of hard work would go into the yard, and no detail was left unattended. Having a wedding in the backyard added a lot of of stress, and the bride was thankful to her grandparents, bridesmaids, and family and friends for helping to pull it all together, making the day all that more special. Samantha said that all of her stress melted when they were all finally ready and in the car heading to the church. That’s when the fun real began: all 13 of her
bridesmaids delighted her by singing, “Going to the Chapel.” Samantha said that is when she realized that she was on her way to marry her best friend, and that put the whole planning and preparation into perspective. After a perfect ceremony, they excitedly began celebrating with those they loved. As the french doors opened to back yard, Kyle and Samantha were announced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Perez. Glancing at the scene before her, the bride said that she could finally see that everything was exactly as she had always imagined and hoped it would be, right down to the wonderful man walking beside her. All of the planning and hard work it took to have the wedding at her parent’s home was worth it: the market lights that created an open air tent contrasted beautifully with the twilight sky, and the rustic barn wood, supplied by the bride’s grandfather, was filled with delicate babies breath creating the centerpieces that complemented each other perfectly. Sitting at the head table, they looked around to see all of the people special to them surrounding them and were filled with unspeakable joy.

The whole day was-- in the couple’s words “perfect,” and Mr. and Mrs. Perez are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together. Congratulations Samantha & Kyle

Katie & Nick Stowe Married May 19, 2012 Nick and Katie got engaged overlooking the water on their favorite rock cliff in Knights Ferry. As the wedding preparations began, anyone who knows Katie knew she’d pick blue…and she did…navy blue with accents of gray and pink. The bride and groom also incorporated Nick’s love for woodwork. He handcrafted the appetizer table, the buffet table, a beautiful chandelier that hung over the head table, and a one of a kind carved heart that they used as a guest book where guests signed their names in sharpie.
Katie, a true country girl at heart, saw her childhood dreams come true as they chose her parents home as the location of their wedding. Decked in her blue cowboy boots, they watched as guests drank from mason jars filled with lemonade and ice tea during their ceremony and read the simple love sayings and songs her cousin had painted on old wood fruit drying trays. Nick also loves jam so Katie, her mom, aunt, and other family & friends got together and made strawberry jam with labels that read, “Spread the Love”.

Alison & Bryan Harden Married June 3, 2012 After getting engaged in Knights Ferry, Alison thought she was bringing Bryan home to his surprise birthday party she planned. Little did she know that was also all part of Bryan’s original plan. As they walked into what was really a surprise engagement party that only his mom and sister knew about, the newly engaged couple were able to celebrate with loved ones on the day of their engagement.
As the planning began, Alison knew she was taking on a lot with writing her thesis, finishing up her graduate program, and planning a wedding but she took every effort to be involved. One way that she accomplished this was by incorporating several DIY projects where she could enlist friends and family to help create and also spend quality time with. She loves how this brought a very personal element to her wedding planning. Together they made banners, the wedding invitations and programs, and delicious jam for favors. The bride’s father also handcrafted signs for the wedding venue and the adorable speech bubbles used in their photo booth at the reception. Alison’s closest friends also gifted her little things that made the day extra special. A cherished hanky as her Something Old, hand-made navy rosettes on her white Toms created by her maid-of-honor as her Something Blue, a Borrowed veil from a family friend, and her beautiful dress as Something New. Of all the special moments on their wedding day, one of their favorites was against a barn before the ceremony. They had decided not to see each other beforehand and as Alison’s nerves grew, they came together at the corner of the barn to just hold hands for a picture. In that moment all nervousness was swept away and on that day she married her best friend.

Lorayne & Cody Gardner Married October 1, 2011
When Lorayne winked at Cory one night at a bar in downtown Modesto, she was shocked at her own boldness... until he walked over to talk with her, then she was shocked at his. After dating for 10 blissful months, the couple planned a trip to Disneyland, where Cory surprised Lorayne with a ring in front on Cinderella’s castle. The couple married in South Lake Tahoe in an intimate ceremony that the bride said “was blessed by God.” Tears of happiness flowed as the bride was walked by her father to met her groom at the altar. Their dreams of finding one another had finally come true!

Daniela & Trevor Cordova Married June 3, 2012
Trevor and Daniela met over five years ago while they were both attending CSU Chico. Well, technically they met when Daniela started dating Trevor’s roommate, but when that relationship didn’t work out, Trevor convinced her to go out on a date with him. After their first date, Daniela said that she knew he was the one for her. After they graduated, they moved back to the area together, and eventually landed at his family’s farm in Denair. After over 3 1/2 years of dating, Trevor proposed to her in the house that they shared. When they became engaged over a year ago, they were determined to incorporate who they were as a couple in all the wedding plans. Farming and almonds are a big part of their lives: Daniela’s father is a farmer in Modesto, so she grew up around farming, while Trevor’s family owns 700 acres in Denair and farms almonds. After Trevor graduated from CSU Chico, he decided to go into the family business and help his dad on the farm, so it was not only their past, but their future as well.

“You and Me” It was decided early on that the setting would be “rustic elegance”. After choosing a theme, they started looking for venues. They’d heard about a vineyard in Lodi from a fortuitous conversation that Trevor’s mom had with a stranger, so they decided to go and take a look. As soon as they toured the wedding ceremony area at Oak Farm Vineyards, they were sold. The huge, beautiful, oak tree was exactly where they had envisioned swapping their vows. The grounds were gorgeous and Daniela said, “It literally took our breath away.” After determining the wedding location, everything started to fall into place. She decided on the colors: buttercup yellow, coral, and ivory, and tried to incorporate almonds as much as possible. With the help of her mother and future mother-in-law, Daniela said that all of their free time was spent on planning the perfect wedding.
On June 3, 2012, a beautiful Sunday morning, they got ready for the big day. The wedding ceremony started at 3:30 p.m., and Daniela fondly remembers walking down the aisle with her dad. As she looked for her groom waiting at the alter, she saw Trevor breaking down at the sight of her. Daniela said, “It was the most surreal moment, and I will always remember that look on his face when he first saw me.” After the ceremony, a cocktail hour was held by the lake. After the pictures were taken, everyone headed to the wine pavilion where the reception took place. “It was the best night of our lives,” they gushed, joy evident on their faces, “Everyone told us it was ‘one of the best weddings they have ever been to.’” They raved about their DJ who played great music, the fabulous wine, the amazing cake (with almond filling) from Tiers for Two, and the photo booth that their guests enjoyed.

The wedding party is carefully chosen by couples as the people that will surround and support them on their big day. Families and friendships involve many similar circles, and just about everyone can think of “that guy” who has been in multiple weddings, but never once as the groom. If you’ve ever been curious at what sort of man is a friend-to-so-many, here are a few with ties to the Central Valley who suit-up when asked. We wanted to know more about them, including their perspective of being asked to be in the wedding party, some things they would change, and their own relational journey. Blake Nan is described to everyone as “charming, well-mannered, and smart,” and that is evident by everyone he comes across. Blake was a groomsman and a best man by the time he turned 30 on June 2, along with his triplet siblings, Erin and Brandon. He’s a 7th and 8th grade physical education teacher for Modesto City Schools, but when he isn’t working he can be found at the gun range, gym, or spending time with his friends and family.
“To know that I have played a small but hopefully significant part in their life is very humbling and that motivates me to stand there in complete joy and celebration,” When he was the best man at his brother, Brandon’s wedding in 2009, he gave the toast, surprising everyone by having his brother place his hand on top of his new bride Mandy’s. He told the photographer, “Take a picture of this because this will be the last time Brandon has the upperhand in the marriage.” Blake spent most of his 20’s completing the goals he set for himself. He got his Physical Education degree and teaching credential at the California State University, Stanislaus. Now, he owns his own home in Riverbank where he’s working on completing his backyard, and continually trains to stay in top physical shape. As for his relational journey, Blake is hoping someone will come along who wants that same things as he does, “Right now I am just out there meeting people. I’d like to find someone to settle down with—I mean, I enjoy my life, but look forward to starting a family with and sharing the rest of my life with someone. I’m a teacher, and to see kid’s reactions when I help them with something is such a good feeling. I think I have a lot of knowledge to pass along, so when I have my own kids I’ll get to help and see them grow into great accomplished adults.” Blake is very close to his family, and wants to one day be a family man. Until then, he continues to work, work out, and discover just how great his 30’s are going to be.

Though he may not know marriage, Josh Bendahan knows all about weddings. Josh, 28, has been friends with Mira Jantz, Publisher of BCM, for over 3 years because he is the Sales Executive for Pronovias and Enzoani Bridal. His father was in the wedding business and eight years ago, Josh decided to follow him there. All the males in his family are now involved with weddings, as his brother, Zac, is also a sales executive for a bridal designer. Josh currently resides in Toronto, not far from where he was raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario. This Canadian is “hoping to find someone with the same appreciation for life and family values, who will laugh at anything-- even if it’s stupid. Hopefully she loves sports and staying active, and can be a movie geek with me.” What types of movies? “Anywhere between ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ and ‘Die Hard’.” When not he’s swooning bridal salon owners, Josh can be found playing hockey, baseball, or golf.
“I love you for who you are and not what you believe in.” He is not shy when it comes to the dating scene, either. One day after parking his car, Josh noticed someone having a difficult time parallel parking, so he went over to help. When he realized the driver was a 5’10” blonde-haired, blue-eyed stunning girl, he didn’t hesitate. He invited her out for a drink, but she turned him down. Yet, he must have made a good impression because when he returned to his car, what he thought was a ticket on his windshield was actually her number. Josh’s folks have been together since they were 13 years old. Love so strong, his mother converted to Judaism for his father “I would love to have what my parent’s have someday,” but also loves the balance of work and friends in his life. Yes, seeing his folk’s passion for one another has set the standard for what he is looking for. Strike that- he’s not looking at all. “You don’t find love, love finds you,” he said. If you know Mark Andrew, you know that his sense of humor and sarcasm keep people on their toes. When asked for five words to describe himself, he said “Tall, handsome, but not dark.” Mark has been in nine wedding parties, including three as best man, and even more as a DJ. That’s where Mark had the most stories, including one night in particular where an inebriated best man gave a speech full of colorful language, shocking the conservative audience and causing Mark to fade him out and the music in. “I never thought revoking someone’s First Amendment rights was something I would have to do at a wedding, but in this case it was absolutely necessary.” Even when asked for his name, he had something surprising to say, “Mark Christopher Andrew. With three first names, you’re either a serial killer or Catholic...and I’m not Catholic.” Mark is number five of six kids but he’s “clearly” the favorite. His parents are going on 40 years together and they have set a great example for their growing family. When asked if he is ready to be a groom, he said, “It seems as if everyone has something to say about the status of my marital...status. The common recurring theme is that I’m doing it wrong. Apparently I should be married by now, but I’m not convinced. I think people sometimes look at marriage as a line item on life’s ‘to-do’ list. Some feel as if they have not arrived until that box has been checked. It’s like they’re not comfortable in their own skin.” Mark is a Commercial Leasing Agent at Douglas Emmett, Inc., and he spends the rest of his time as a full-time, single Dad to his 16-year old daughter, Miranda. In 2004, he moved from Modesto to Southern California in pursuit of an MBA at Pepperdine University. The majority of his time in Southern California was spent in Santa Monica, but he just recently moved to Oak Park, which is so quiet that it’s almost deafening.
“I’m a competitor. I will catch that garter.” If given the chance, what would Mark change with weddings? “For starters, I would bring back the cummerbund immediately. Next, let’s do away with the garter toss and bouquet toss. There’s just too much pressure riding on it. Let’s be honest: I’m a competitor. I will catch that garter. But if wedding folklore holds true, and I’m really supposed to marry the girl that catches the bouquet, then I’m going to be eyeing who is stepping up to catch that thing. If I see a woman who would make a horrible wife, you better believe I’m taking her out at the knees, Nancy Kerrigan style. Actually, to avoid all the headaches, I usually try to miss either toss entirely by bolting to the bathroom or heading outside with the smokers.”

Eric Larson, 32, moves at a very fast pace… in his car, that is. He’s gotten 36 moving violations in his driving career, but maintains that he’s learned his lesson and is a good driver these days. When he is not driving, he is driven, as he is the co-founder of his own business, VeriSum Corp. in San Francisco, to which he says is the reason he is still single, “After I set business goals for myself, it wasn’t fair to either party to divide my attention, so the company always took priority. I’d find out really quickly if the girl understood that or not. I knew that it wouldn’t always be like this, but I had to put the work in the front-end to have a solid foundation for success in the future.”
@EricLarson949, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, #Negotiator, #Entrepreneur, #Rainmaker When not in the office, you’ll find him bar-b-queuing, at the gym, networking, or buying yet another pair of Diesel jeans. GROVER Style Photography
He’s been in 19 weddings and both of his siblings are married, which means he gets to be the best uncle he can be to his niece and nephews. So, is he dating? “Actually, yes I am seeing someone. I enjoy spending my time with her.” Eric is in no hurry to be married and hopes to build his future relationships just like his business: with his full focus and energy.
“He is his own best friend, and takes delight in privacy whereas the man of no virtue or ability is his own worst enemy and is afraid of solitude.” - Aristotle Chris McPherson has been in an astounding 31 weddings, including 7 as a best man, 5
as an officiant, and 1 as a vocalist. Chris is 44 years old and is an Entertainment Manager at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA. Being in so many weddings, Chris is constantly asked when it will be his turn, and the answer is that there is no answer, “Is there a desire for me to have someone walk down the aisle to me as I am standing in the front waiting? Yes. But! I truly believe my life “status” is where it is supposed to be at this time. I don’t what my future holds, but I know Who holds my future. To be 44 years old and single in a culture that pressures us to get married because divorce is always an option is not a culture I want directing me on my values. I want to do it right the first time.” Chris, who is from Modesto, moved down to Westminster, CA when he was 33 because he got his dream job working for Disney. Spending years devoted to his work and using his energy to inspire excellence, he has kept busy without focusing on marriage. As he puts it, “Am I searching for someone right now? Not really. Are my eyes open? Of course. I do always try to be the best gentleman I can be, and I hope that will also attract others my way.” As evident by the number of weddings that Chris has been asked to be involved with, it’s clear that he not only knows how to make friends, but be knows how to be a friend. “To know that I have played a small but hopefully significant part in their life is very humbling and that motivates me to stand there in complete joy and celebration,” said Chris, whose nickname is McP. When asked for something he would change at weddings, he offered this, “I would change the

attitude of those who are asked or not asked to be a part of the ceremony. No matter what role I have been in, I have learned to always be grateful for even being asked to be a part of the wedding. I have seen people get so bent out of shape if they were not asked to be a groomsman or bridesmaid or to hear, ‘well, I’m only an usher or I’m just at the gift table.’ This is disheartening. We, who are part of the wedding, whether in the bridal party or not, have to remember one thing.... it’s not our day. We’re meant to live for and love others, and on someone’s wedding day we should embrace this the most.” Chris has seen just about every situation happen in a wedding ceremony. He said, “There’s nothing more dramatic than a good bridal party fall or vomiting from a flower girl.”
Twice the Love Blink again, but you’re not seeing double. Michael and Josh Williams are 24-year old twin brothers who light up the social and charitable scenes in Modesto. Michael works full-time for the family business, Oak Crafts by Jeremiah, where he creates custom wood cabinets and wood furniture. A true gentleman, he can be counted out to pull out a chair or open a door for any lady. He rides his motorcycle everywhere, and will eagerly show-off photos of his “kid,” a one-year old Pitbull named Kingston.
Josh has a good time at weddings, but he wishes that he could bring a date to a wedding without it seeming serious. “A lot of women might read too much into it, when we could have a good time if she wanted to go and have fun.” He thinks that the pressure should be off for women asking men too, that guys shouldn’t assume she is too serious too soon and pull back. “Once I was out with my friends and we ended up hanging out with a bachelorette party. When I showed up to be in a wedding that weekend, the bride and bridesmaids were the same we’d hung out with earlier. Thankfully it wasn’t too wild and we all laughed it off.” He isn’t currently seeing anyone, but hopes to someday find someone caring, well-educated, and beautiful inside and out.
Stephanie Baker Photography
Michael, who has been in 3 weddings, looks forward to receptions the most because that’s when he can “get down on the dance floor.” He’s been dating someone for 2 years now and is having a “seriously fun time” getting to know her. He hopes to be closer to his girlfriend at this same time next year: “I’ve been on a party scene a lot and see a lot of discontentment from guys and girls about dating. That’s why when you find someone-- like I have-- you have to do what it takes to hold on to them.” Michael is soft-spoken but talkative, and immediately puts those around him at ease. However, he has a wild side- Michael is a daredevil who always seems to be getting hurt. He plays basketball whenever he can find a game and often goes dancing in the City. You’ve seen Josh Williams before on the cover of Bridal Couture Magazines’ 2012 Spring/Summer issue, but now we’re uncovering the man behind the suit. Josh has been in 4-5 weddings, but he’s crashed at least 3 more. Was it for the food or for the ladies? “Both!” he laughed. Josh, like Michael, grew up going to the Revival Center United Pentecostal Church and a couple of years ago, he started a non-profit company called “Thanks4Giving” (T4G), which provides food, clothing, and sometimes shelter for the less fortunate. He’s an ambitious man who not only works for the family business, but also promotes health and wellness with ViSalus Science.
“I find things that motivate me and then go after it completely,” said Josh, who shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. He’s pursuing a modeling career, loves to run and keep physically fit, enjoys the outdoors by hiking Pinecrest or Half-Dome, and can be found singing Boyz II Men at local karaoke venues. These brothers know how to have a good time, be true gentlemen, and bring out the best in others around them.

T he G room ’ s G uide Huddle Up::Drafting your Wedding Day Fantasy Team The game day is set and the field is reserved. All a groom needs to do now is draft his men. Some simple questions can be answered first, such as how many on the team and what the uniform is going to look like. Not so easily answered is which friends and family members will be the first-round draft picks.
Much as with creating Fantasy Football teams, a team should be built from well-rounded and talented guys who, together, can rack up the points with as few fumbles as possible on the drive to the wedding day. Team players should be able to block and prevent unnecessary roughness as the groom works his way towards the end zone. Who are these guys, and what are their duties as part of the wedding league?
This is THE man. The Best Man. He makes the big plays, captains the team and makes the groom look great. He is always on the field and always making the big calls. Cheerleader or supermodel girlfriend is optional.

So you have gotten on one knee, put the ring on the finger, and now the smoking hot girl you have been dating for years is going to be your smoking hot wife. You lucky dog. Because I have been in your shoes standing at the starting line waiting for the gun to go off, my friend, I feel fairly qualified to list some ideas below for understanding the wedding process (NO, it is NOT just a matter of walking up an aisle and saying “I DO.” Believe me, there is WAY more to DO!) And since I’m a few months ahead of you into the marriage process, I’ve got some fairly awesome tips for understanding married life both for you and your beautiful bride. You are welcome. Planning the Wedding:: •
•
Nod and smile. A LOT. It is going to seem like your fiancé has picked up a new language when she starts talking about venues and bridal parties and floral arrangements. Compliment her choices. NEVER offer suggestions, unless she asks, and then make a recommendation but take it back… immediately. Kiss her, look into her eyes, and tell her you trust her expertise. Simple. Get the enormous box of Crayola crayons and LEARN THOSE COLORS. There will be tests and it comes in the forms of gown swatches, invitation samples and table linens. Know the difference between sky blue, turquoise blue, cadet blue, midnight blue, and cornflower if you know what’s good for you.
Preparing Her to Be a Wife:: • • •
She needs to understand that you’ll eat pretty much anything and no you don’t think it’s gross. Let her see you eat sofa pizza pretty early on, and you might as well drink straight from the milk carton while you are at it. The sooner she understands your quirky culinary tastes, the better off she’ll be. She will thank you for being so open and real. Let her know that while she is welcome into your man cave to try her hand at darts, there is one house rule she must be aware of. That rule is that the man always wins at darts. And while he is winning at darts, he will smoke cigars, because they make him look really cool. This is certain to turn her on. You will both be grateful you took this advice. Last rule is that while you are pretty willing to talk to her during any regular-season baseball ballgame (except for a potential No-Hitter or Perfect Game), any divisional playoff or World Series game allows for only the screams of you and your boys. Knowing the boundaries and rules will make sports much more enjoyable for her.
Preparing Yourself to Be Her Husband:: • • •
M 108
She loves you, but does not love your Dr. Phil impression. When she asks you if the dress she is wearing is flattering to her figure, she does not want to hear you say in a Southern drawl, “You need to listen to your body because your body is listening to you.” You WILL pick up items in colorful pink and purple boxes with weird words and polka dots from the nearest drugstore for her without asking any questions. Carry them in to her proudly and tell her in your manliest most reassuring voice “Let me know if I can get anything else for you, honey.” BIG points for this one, pal. Lastly, know that your girl/fiancé/wife will make you the best chocolate chip cookies in the world for pretty much any reason; your birthday, promotion at work, or simply because she loves you. She will throw them away in an instant, however, if you mention while still chewing them that they taste just as good as your moms.

Getting ready for your big day requires more than just a shower and a shave these days. But that doesn’t mean you have to be a full-on metrosexual, either. Keep these five tools on hand -- and use them -- to achieve good manscaping status. BCM looked to Cheryl Zuzula, a licensed skin care therapist at Aqua Bliss for tips. Protect the Head
Many men opt to sport the buzz cut when temps approach the triple digits, which is great for cooling off, but it also exposes your scalp (previously protected by hair) to the rays of death (UV rays). Quick fix: apply sunscreen daily! A mineral blocker with an SPF is essential.
Scrub Up
In dry conditions more dead skin may accumulate, making men look scaly and dull. Quick fix: Scrub it off witha granular exfoliator a few times a week.
Dirty skin? Clean it up
When men are hot, they sweat more. Simple enough. But when we sweat, these oils, toxins, and bacteria along with dead skin from our pores accumulate on the surface of our skin. Quick fix: cleanse at least once per day with a salicylic and/or lactic formula.
Conquer the Scales
Hydration is essential for bodies during summer months just as much as it is for our skin, otherwise we risk looking scaly or flaky. Quick fix: splash skin with cooling mists of peptides and fresheners and use a moisturizer or hydrating serum daily that contains antioxidants, D2O and nutrients.
Fight Damage
Fun in the sun is a favorite pastime during this season. Keep in mind however that the sun is responsible for 90 percent of skin aging (not to mention skin cancer). Quick fix: apply a topical retinoidat night and follow with a mineral blocker daily.

Being asked to be the best man in a wedding is a great honor. We don’t get bestowed with the title “best” very often in our lives. It shows that your friend or family member holds your relationship in great esteem. You’ve been his go-to guy in life; now he needs you to be his point person during this weighty rite-of-passage. So don’t just shuffle through your role; instead, help your buddy through the most important day of his life by stepping up and fulfilling your duties with competence.
courtesy of
L ori M akabe
Just what are those duties? Here’s a rundown of your responsibilities as the best man:
Before the Wedding • • • •
Plan the bachelor party. This is one of your biggest responsibilities. Luckily, we’ve written up a handy guide on just how to do it. Get fitted for a tux/suit. In former times, etiquette dictated that the groom pay for rental or purchase of the tuxes for his groomsmen. These days, the groom often expects you to pony up the dough yourself. Personally, I find it in poor taste to ask someone to be in your wedding and then expect them to pay for their own tux, but it’s become a common practice. Whether you’re buying or renting, paying or not, you will likely be expected to get fitted for your tux or suit. You’re responsible for showing up to the appointment and making sure the other groomsmen do as well. Go to the rehearsal. The day before the wedding, there will be a rehearsal held where the actual wedding will take place. It can’t start without you, so be sure to arrive on time. It should only last for a half an hour or so. • Go to the rehearsal dinner. After the rehearsal, those in the wedding party (and other family and friends the couple may have invited) will head over to the rehearsal dinner, typically held at a restaurant. There is usually toasting at the dinner, and while you are welcome to make a toast, I recommend holding off until your big speech at the wedding reception. You don’t want to use up your best material.
The Day of the Wedding • A wedding day is a whirlwind of activity. Your job as the best man is to take the burden of stress off the groom and onto your shoulders. You’ll be his go-to guy: his support, assistant, and valet. You make sure things are in place, that the groom has what he needs, gets to where he needs to be, and stays relaxed. If you do your job right, the groom will only need to worry about walking down that aisle.
Before the Ceremony • Hang out with the groom as he dresses for the ceremony. Keep your friend calm and relaxed (although not with spirits). There may be some downtime before the ceremony, so play some video games and just chill. Skip questions like, “Dude, are you sure you want to do

this?” and instead offer calming encouragement. Make sure the groom has whatever he needs. Not just for the wedding but for the honeymoon as well. He may not be coming back to his house/hotel/apartment before heading off into the sunset with his bride. So make sure he has the marriage license, that he’s all packed, and that the luggage, tickets, passport, etc. get put in the car. Drive the groom over to the wedding location. Get there at least 30 minutes before the ceremony starts. Distribute the boutonnieres and make sure the groomsmen are wearing them properly. They should be placed in the buttonhole of the left lapel of one’s suit jacket. If there’s no buttonhole, then pin them there.

Enter with the groom. The order of the wedding processional varies by the type of wedding and the couple’s faith tradition, but most frequently the minister or priest, best man, and groom (in that order) come into the church through a side door at the front. Hold onto the groom’s ring. It’s your job to keep the ring safe and sound in your pocket and to fish it out at the appropriate time during the ceremony. This is one thing you absolutely don’t want to flub, lest you end up as a clip on America’s Funniest Home Videos. Don’t faint. See the aforementioned reference to AFV. Escort the maid/matron of honor out of the church at the conclusion of the ceremony. Sign the marriage license. After the wedding, you may be asked to be a witness and sign the marriage license.

Dance with the matron/maid of honor and the bridesmaids. Kick off the toasting with the best man speech. This is the job that probably first comes to mind when you think about being the best man. And it’s probably the job you’re most nervous about. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a foolproof plan to knock your speech out of the park. An interesting side note: The best man used to also read telegrams from well-wishers who couldn’t make it to the ceremony. Sounds like a nice tradition from bygone days. Decorate the getaway car. During the reception, sneak out with your groomsmen and bridesmaids and decorate the bride and groom’s getaway car. Make it kitschy, a little embarrassing, but not uber annoying. And of course, don’t get too carried away and damage the car. Use your judgment in how far to take it by how good of sports the bride and groom are. Tying some cans with string to the underside of the car is classic, as is writing on the windows with window paint. Stick some balloons on the outside and stuff them in the interior. Tape some ribbons to the hubcaps. Stick on some window clings. They make personalized wedding specific ones, but I would go with something truly random like Dale Earnhardt, I Love My Coonhnound, and Hannah Montana. But that gives you an idea of my sense of humor. If they’re renting a limo or a slick set of wheels, you’ll probably have to skip this step.
After the wedding, bring the groom’s tux to the cleaners or back to the rental shop. Taking care of this while he’s on the honeymoon will eliminate one of the many tasks he will have on his checklist. C ourtesy of T he A rt of M anliness

to know when renting
“How Do I Go About Renting A Tux” you ask? That’s a question we hear quite often. It’s a very simple process really, but one that most people may not be familiar with. Actually, you can complete most of the process right here on our website in terms of making a tuxedo selection. Here’s a simple list; 1. CHOOSE YOUR TUXEDO Start by browing the web. Identify a few styles you like. You may also visit several tuxedo websites that you can create and “design” your tuxedo style.
Fullback vests, ties, shoes, shirts. 3. CHOOSE A RETAILER Schedule an appointment at one of your local retailers. See BridalCoutureMag.com for our preferred retailers. There you will have access to their store address and phone number. Some of our Retailers have websites, too - you’ll see their links. 4. DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT You may place your order at this time. Expect to have your measurements taken. Style advice and wedding planning advice is readily available; don’t hesitate to ask as our retailers are formalwear experts. You may be asked to place a small downpayment on your rental. Before you leave, you will have confirmed availability of your tux and accessory styles for your wear date. 5. PICK UP YOUR TUX When you return to the retailer’s store, you’ll have the opportunity to try your tuxedo on for a final fitting. This usually occurs 2-3 days before the wedding. Your sales consultant should confirm these dates with you. It is important to know that some additional alterations may need to take place in order to receive a better fit. 6. ENJOY YOUR EVENT We’ll leave this part up to you!
