AN Ly

An Ly never gave up on love. She met Hiep

Nguyen at the gym and it took him awhile to get the courage to speak to her. She knew he was the one on their first date.

on their second date things turned sad. Hiep found out both of his kidneys had been damaged by disease and he needed a transplant.

The 26 year old luckily had a sister ready and willing to donate a kidney. Even luckier, the kidney was a 100% match for Hiep.

An was impressed with his positive attitude

and how he grew as individual as he dealt with the fate he was given. “i fell in love with him during this time,” she says. “After five strong years of learning, growing, maturing and

loving, we knew we were ready to take our life and relationship to the next level.”

An is a fan of the creative graffiti walls in

Austin, Texas. Hiep used the public art she

loved as a canvas for his proposal. Her cousin helped him set the stage. As she walked

towards the wall, she saw pictures of she and Hiep; he got down on one knee, and the rest is history.

her wedding gown for the reception at ocean palace. one final change will bring back the

red and the couple will visit each table, personally thanking 400 people for attending.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Cypress ridge High School and the university of Houston.

She works as a project coordinator at Weatherford. Hiep works in new home sales at Cinco ranch in Katy.

An is the latest real bride-to-be selected by the Bridal Extravaganza Show to appear on billboards citywide. “I would love to showcase to the world what true love and happiness are all about,” she says. “Being the Billboard Bride proves true love does exist and anyone can turn their dreams and fantasies into reality through hard work and commitment.”

industry as a project planner and scheduler. They met at lsU and soon, these Tiger alumni were planning their big day.

on July 28, 2012 their ceremony was held at st. Paul’s United Methodist Church. “This

was a great meet-in-the-middle because i am Catholic and Troy was raised baptist. we

instantly connected with the reverend there:

reverend shelli williams,” says Morgan. she beams when she says the church is “dreamy and fairy tale like.” Morgan had a “say yes

The reception followed at the river oaks

Country Club where the cake took center

stage. “all the flowers were handmade over a

period of six months,” says Morgan. The cake may have taken center stage, but the band,

blind date, kept loved ones dancing all night. after the wedding they went on an amazing

five day land tour through alaska and an eight day cruise aboard Princess Cruise lines. They caught salmon, rode aTV’s through the wil-

Miles And Miles of RoMAnce

This fun loving couple met in oklahoma, but soon found out they had Texas roots. Abby

and a friend decided to visit norman, oK one weekend while attending college. They sat at a large table at new york Pizza & Pasta, eating pizza, drinking beer and watching college

basketball. “Then, some cute guy named Todd with a big friendly smile arrived,” remembers Abby. What started with a spontaneous

introduction from Todd led to an “i do” in Weatherford, TX.

Abby, a mechanical design engineer and Todd, a law student at the University of Tulsa, had

a unique relationship while dating. for three

years, they lived in separate cities. They moved around constantly for internships and gradu-

ate schools. one of those years they were over 800 miles apart. it was a challenge but their relationship became rock solid.

- 122 -

They were looking for a unique, casual and

beautiful wedding location. from oklahoma, they headed south to the dallas/fort Worth

area and found chandor gardens in Weatherford, TX. When they saw the stunning whimsical garden, they knew the search was over! for their honeymoon, Abby and Todd went

to belize. They explored the beautiful country and they can’t wait to go back! Abby’s Advice

start early, and give yourself time to have fun

with the planning process. being a diy bride allows you to put your own personal touches wherever you’d like and it also saves money!

Also, it’s never going to be perfect, and that’s ok. be as prepared as you can be, but let go of that one thing you forgot to do, or that

wasn’t done just how you wanted it. it will be amazing anyway! - Patricia Rivera

Meeting for their first time on a blind date at The University of Texas was just the beginning for Lera and brian.

Lera, an attorney and brian, a civil engineer both agreed on having their wedding at the Petroleum club because of the spectacular

view. The dramatic houston skyline set the perfect backdrop for Lera in her gorgeous

ivory kenneth Pool gown with flare and hand beaded detail. her veil was cathedral length with crystal trim. custom linens provided by elegant beginning carried the opulent

vibe throughout the room. When it came

time to cut the cake, the specialists at Who

enjoy the actual wedding day; it goes by even faster. Stop and take it all in. Something will go wrong. it’s inevitable. it won’t be a big

Megan and Derek won their reception by sharing this story:

“On July 11th 2009, I lost my brother

Michael. He was a Night Stalker in the

160th S.O.A.R.;U.S. Army, stationed in Georgia. He had custody of his beautiful

baby girl, Ariel. It was hard being a single dad in the Army with no family or help

around. For reasons only God knows, he

chose to take his own life. My family and

I got full custody of Ariel and she was the

only thing keeping me alive. I wanted to be with my brother more than anything. On April 10, 2010, I went to Chilifest near

College Station with my friends and met

Derek. He was home on his 2 week R&R from Iraq. After 30 minutes of talking

about his time in the Army, my brother, and realizing we grew up 20 minutes

from each other, he asked me on a date. The next 2 weeks Derek and I spent every day together. Every date was so easy and we

had so much fun together. I felt like it was a dream and I would soon wake up. I just wasn’t used to good things happening. I

took him to the airport and watched him

get on a plane back to Iraq. I felt a feeling that I hadn’t felt in a long time… hope.

At that time I felt in my heart that God and my brother sent Derek to me. They

saw my pain and sent an angel to save me. Derek and I talked almost every day for hours at a time while he was overseas.

- 192 -

When Derek came home from Iraq we

visited each other every chance we could.

He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC in the 82nd Airborne Division. He and Ariel

love each other. Watching them together reassures me Derek is here for a reason.

Derek then came down on orders to go to Alaska and soon Afghanistan. We pulled our resources together and got his orders

changed to be a recruiter right next to my house! This was another sign he was sent to me for a reason.

I would love to get married on Lake Conroe.

I spent summers here with my brother.

Every time I pass the lake, I can see him

out on the boat, smiling. At my wedding I would love the chance to look out onto the

lake, see my brother out there and know he is with me on my wedding day. Derek is

the angel who saved me and I can’t wait to start my life with him and Ariel. - Laurette Veres

we did not invest in a “day-of ” wedding

Time With The Ones You Love Destination Photographer chris Wineinger says, “i love destination weddings because

you get to spend three full days with family and close friends instead of six hours.

When i arrive at a wedding, i can tell folks are having a great time hanging out and

getting to spend real quality time together.”

He offers these tips: > Have hair and make-up done early so you can utilize the location and take pre-wedding photos. > Have your ceremony two hours before sunset so you don’t run out of light for pictures. > Plan a couple’s photo shoot the day after the event.
