Bridges Fundraising Supports Phyllis Tuckwell
L
ocal Estate Agent Bridges has raised over £25,000 for Phyllis Tuckwell in their first year as corporate partners of the Hospice Care charity.
The money has been generated by a series of fundraising events which Bridges employees have taken part in, showing their wholehearted support for Phyllis Tuckwell, which cares for patients and families who are living with a terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire. As well as taking part in Phyllis Tuckwell’s skydive and Strictly Dancing events, Bridges staff have also organised their own fundraising activities. Football matches, cricket matches and exhausting treks across ten peaks in Yorkshire have all pushed the total amount raised higher and higher. In addition to this huge show of support, Bridges have also sponsored three of Phyllis Tuckwell’s Hospice Care at Home (HCAH) cars, pool cars which are used by the charity’s nurses to enable them to visit patients across West Surrey and North East Hampshire, who have chosen to spend their last days in the comfort of their own homes, rather than in hospital or at the Hospice. “It has been a fabulous year and we would like to thank all of the Bridges staff who took part in raising this fantastic amount of money for Phyllis Tuckwell,” said Nick Adams, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “It is with generous donations and support from local companies such as Bridges that we able to continue to care for our patients and their families at such a crucial time in their lives. We are really pleased to be able to continue our partnership with Bridges and look forward to working with them to raise money together again next year.” “It has been a real privilege to partner with such a valuable local charity with such a fantastic set up,” said Carlo Stocchetti, Group Managing Director at Bridges. “We are grateful to all of our staff who contributed their time and effort with fundraising and all those kind people who sponsored us. Without everyone’s effort this wonderful goal would never have been achieved.” Every day Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers – in their own homes, in the community, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford – through medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support. All of its services are provided free of charge, but as the NHS/ Government only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to do this, and therefore relies heavily on the support and generosity of the local community. Appeal Simon Pearson, one of our most popular and larger than life employees has been through a torrid and frightening year fighting leukaemia. Simon is a very well-known icon of Estate Agency in this area and was struck down back in September 2016. Simon is married to Sara and has 2 daughters, Georgia & Alisha who are his inspiration and help him stay strong through his struggle. He has 8 brothers and sisters, and, to his great fortune, ONE was a match for a bone marrow transplant. His very brave sister, Sonia had no hesitation in offering her help and the operation took place on 6th of April this year. The fight is not over though. Simon is confined to hospital for another few weeks and will need to avoid crowds for several months after. His situation will remain precarious with regard to catching any infections that can set him back. We have a Go Fund Me site where we hope his former work colleagues and his many friends can make a donation, however large or small, and we are running an auction site via ebay. We hope we can gather as much support as possible and we look forward to having Simon back behind a Bridges desk in the not too distant future.
BIOGRAPHY Simon went to school at Stoneham comprehensive in Reading until 1985. His first job in agency came soon after with Bancroft Groves as a trainee Estate Agent where he worked for 2 years until they were taken over by General Accident insurance company. He moved to an independent agent, Oakridge in Reading, in 1989 and he stayed there for 2 years. He was head hunted by Bob Mason of Parkers and worked at their newly opened Lower Earley office. Four years later he was hunted down again, this time by Tony Griffiths of Mann & Co and the next four years were spent in a Mann & Co office. In 1999 he decided to break from agency and joined Lancaster Landrover of Pangbourne before being transferred to the Jaguar sales team. The call of agency was too strong and in 2002 he was approached by Richard Lowe, then of Romans, but he only stayed there for 18 months. He decided to take a chance and opened EP Properties in Blackwater and after a very strong start the financial crash forced him to close the doors in 2009. Next stop for Simon was as a sports agent and, although successful, the call of Estate Agency was too strong and we at Bridges were lucky enough to snap him up! We hope it won’t be too long before he is back behind a Bridges desk doing what he knows best and the job he loves.

THUR 11TH MAY | ATTENDANCE 275 An emotionally charged night brought together family, friends & work colleagues in support of Simon Pearson – to date the match has raised in excess of £4,000 for Simon before the auction kicks off. A professional display by the visitors saw off a Bridges team that ploughed their furrow but lacked the composure to finish their chances. To be fair the Simon Pearson XI included some seasoned ex pros including Rufus Brevit, Michael Gilkes, Wayne Grant and Kevin Betsy from Fulham, Charlton, Portsmouth & Reading respectively – their experience shone through. The first half settled the match with the visitors up 1-4 with some fantastic creative play and good finishing – special mention to the youngster on the wing Jack Faby who scored two and assisted one which won him the plaudit of man of the match.
An awesome spectacle that lived up to hype and was thoroughly enjoyed by the players and spectators and of course the officials.

As this is not a legal obligation many landlords feel this is something they can do themselves to avoid any additional expense. However, failure to have this carried out and prepared by a professional inventory clerk, will leave the DIY landlord exposed legally and give them little chance of negotiating and receiving any reimbursement for damages caused by their tenant. We use an independent inventory firm to strengthen our client’s position. MAINTENANCE AT THE PROPERTY - To ensure the property is always kept to the highest standard it is important that any maintenance issues are dealt with immediately.

Initially it may seem to be more cost effective and a simple process for a potential landlord to find a tenant, manage it themselves and when a maintenance issue arises, just simply call a tradesman to visit the property. Easy! But what would happen if, after a few months things didn’t go to plan. Who would the DIY landlord turn to, to resolve any issues that go beyond general maintenance? A Every client and every move is different. There is no “one size
fits all” solution to removals which is why it is important for your removal company to listen to your specific requirements and tailor a service accordingly. ”Most removal companies will offer a range of services which give you the opportunity to have as much or as little involvement in the move as you are comfortable with. I have highlighted some of these services below.” Removals only service - This service is where your removal company will come to your home either on the morning of your move or depending on the size of your property and the distance involved, a day earlier and load everything onto the vehicle ready to transport to your new home. At the new property, your belongings would be unloaded into the rooms and positioned as directed by you. With the removals only service, you would be responsible for the packing of your own belongings which can be a long and arduous task.

Supplying boxes & packing materials - Most removal companies will be able to supply a full range of strong double-wall removals boxes and packing materials such as bubble wrap, packing paper, furni-guard and packing tape. The quality of the boxes used for your move is one of the most important considerations purchasing cheaper inferior quality boxes is a false economy. Assisted packing service - If you would like to have some involvement in the packing such as boxing up books, CDs, DVDs, clothes and bedding but you would like a professional team to pack up your fine china, Waterford crystal or antique ornaments, most removal companies will offer an assisted packing service or “partpack” as an option. They will normally charge for this on an hourly basis so you only pay for the packing that is actually carried out. Full-pack & removal services- If you prefer to leave it all to the experts then this is probably the service that you are looking for. In addition to carrying out the removal of your belongings, your removal company will come to your property a day or so before the move to pack the entire contents of your home. As part of this service, they will supply all of the boxes and packing materials that are required to make sure your belongings are safe during transit. Although moving is one of the most stressful things in life, this option removes a lot of the pressure from the client.

Unpacking service - Although this is a lesser-used service and you may have to specifically ask for it, most companies will offer an unpacking service. They will normally take away your boxes and packing materials once they have unpacked as well.

The biggest mistake is always choosing their Agent based on what fee they charge. Of course you want to save as much money as possible however in this industry you get what you pay for so it’s important you take into consideration what service you will be getting. After all this is the biggest asset that you will be selling so it needs to be handled with care, precision and understanding. And remember, you don’t pay your Agent until your property is sold. As I always say, 1% of nothing is nothing. What’s the best thing about being an Estate Agent?
The cars!! Only joking. I love being an Estate Agent purely and simply because every day is different and there is no better feeling than getting your vendor successfully moved with a big smile on their faces. What three tips would you give someone looking to become an Estate Agent?
