Vanlandingham
Etches Name in History as NRHA Three Million Dollar Rider after The Run for a Million Championship 2023
With incredible performances at this year’s 6666 NRHA Derby presented by Markel and The Run For A Million (TRFAM), Jason Vanlandingham added his name to the prestigious list of NRHA Three Million Dollar Riders a mere three years after passing the $2 million mark.
Vanlandingham garnered his first earnings at the 2000 NRHA Derby with a $41 paycheck. From there, he worked his way up to become one of NRHA’s top professionals and has ridden many exemplary reining horses to notoriety along the way, including Vaughn Zimmerman’s Not Ruf At All. Together, the duo won the NRHA Futurity, the NRHA Derby, and the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC).
Heading into TRFAM’s Million Dollar Competition, Vanlandingham was less than $10,000 away from $3 million in earnings, so a good performance was all he would need to reach his next NRHA milestone. A merely good performance, however, was not in the cards for the NRHA Professional. Instead, as the penultimate rider in the competition, he piloted Robert Santagata’s Best Shine (Shine Chic Shine x Best Stop) to an incredible 231 score and half a million dollars in earnings.
In addition to his earnings at this year’s TRFAM, Vanlandingham’s top performances since crossing his last NRHA milestone include:
2021 Level 4 Open NRBC Champion aboard A Vintage Smoke earning $62,500
2021 Level 4 Open Invitational Champion aboard Excessive Rufness earning $100,000
2021 TRFAM Million Dollar Competition 3rd Place aboard A Vintage Smoke earning $80,000
2022 TRFAM Million Dollar Competition 6th Place aboard Best Shine earning $50,000
2023 Level 4 Open NRHA Derby Reserve Champion aboard Gunnabebigtime earning $49,710
Vanlandingham has skyrocketed across the $3 million mark and is nearly halfway to his next milestone. After reaching $1 million in 15 years, $2 million in five years, and $3 million in three years, there is little doubt his name will again grace the NRHA history books with his continued dedication to the sport.

75 Years: The Evolution of The American Quarter Horse Journal
July 7 - November 11 | American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum | Amarillo, Texas begin planning for a monthly AQHA magazine.
At the 1946 AQHA Convention, Raymond Hollingsworth talked to friends about his plans for a Quarter Horse magazine, and he just happened to meet newly elected AQHA Second Vice President Robert Hooper. When AQHA President Albert Mitchell made known his wishes to hire a full-time executive secretary for the Association, Hooper told him about a dynamic young man from Amarillo he had met, whose name was Raymond Hollingsworth. Mitchell hired the young man as AQHA secretary-treasurer, authorized him to move the Association to Amarillo, and instructed him to begin operating it like a business. He also told him to
Once Raymond went to work for AQHA, he discovered there was a huge backlog of registrations pending and, with the war over and gasoline no longer being rationed, he had to get inspectors on the road to inspect horses for registration. In addition, there was the problem of finding office space, but he remedied that by leasing half of a small building on 10th Street west of downtown Amarillo. The other half housed a liquor store.
In 1948, when things had leveled out at the Association and he was ready to launch a magazine, he first had to come up with a new name. A rival Quarter Horse association–the National Quarter Horse Breeders Association–had been formed by then, and it was publishing a magazine called The Quarter Horse, which was Raymond’s original choice. Not discouraged, he met again with his advertising and printing friends and they came up with the name The Quarter Horse Journal.

Arizona Ridge Riders Triumph in Music City, Leaving Slow Start Behind
Nashville, Tenn. – August 29, 2023 –The Arizona Ridge Riders, a team that had faced a challenging start to the season with an 0-7 record, seems to have struck a winning chord in Music City, offering a glimpse of their true potential.
Prior to this weekend's event, the Ridge Riders had been plagued by a string of close calls, often losing by the narrowest margins. Their dedication to maintaining a positive outlook and seizing every opportunity paid off as they sought their first victory.
"We've faced situations like this several times, but usually, we were on the other side of it, and it felt terrible," shared Colby Yates, the Ridge Riders' coach. "Our focus now is to ride more bulls and be consistently better. We believe that getting past one or two rides and returning to three or four rides will help us dominate."
Colten Fritzlan, a key member of the team, emphasized their determination to control what they can. "We knew what we could control, and that's what we've been doing lately, worrying about that and letting the rest take care of itself," said Fritzlan. "At the end of the day, it's just bull riding, and we have to stay on our bulls."
Despite the formidable challenge posed by the league's top-ranked Austin Gamblers, the Ridge Riders approached the showdown with renewed confidence. The night saw a remarkable ride by Fritzlan, who secured 84.5 points atop American Valor, becoming the game's hero and sparking celebrations in the Ridge Rider locker room.
The team's success continued on Saturday night when they faced the Texas Rattlers. Known for their ability to compete in tight games, the Ridge Riders, with the help of Vitor Losnake, limited the Rattlers to just one successful ride. Losnake's dedication and consistency have made him a valuable asset to the team, marked by his stellar ride on Sargent Matt, scoring an impressive 87.5 points.
Transforming close calls into tight victories, the Ridge Riders are eager to capture their first event title of the season as they face the hometown Nashville Stampede on Sunday.
The team's positive attitude, determination to improve, and unwavering support for one another have set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
Whitehorse Leads Arizona Ridge Riders to Spectacular Win
Austin, Texas – August 17, 2023 – Revenge is often best served in the heat of competition, and Keyshawn Whitehorse of the Arizona Ridge Riders proved this adage true in Austin, Texas. In a nail-biting showdown, Whitehorse helped secure a thrilling walk-off victory for his team, overcoming an 87-point deficit with a remarkable performance.
The defining moment came when Whitehorse, who had endured eight consecutive buck-offs at the start of the season, faced the daunting challenge of riding Do Dat Eddie, the same bull that had bested him in Nashville just the previous weekend. With the stakes as high as ever, Whitehorse’s determination and resilience shone through as he sealed the victory with an impressive 89.25-point ride.
Reflecting on his triumph, Whitehorse explained, “He bucked me off last weekend in Nashville. Honestly, it was all about mindset. I went in there (last weekend) without the fight I needed. But once I saw that we drew him again, I said, ‘Just give me that bull.’”
His victory not only showcased his personal growth but also highlighted the spirit of teamwork within the Arizona Ridge Riders. Whitehorse’s fellow riders, including Colten Fritzlan and Vitor Losnake, had previously contributed to the team’s success. Nick, in particular, had been consistently delivering strong rides, and this win marked a significant moment for him.
With this victory, Arizona Ridge Riders now hold a season record of 4-2, marking a remarkable turnaround from their initial 0-7 start. The team currently sits at the No. 6 ranking overall and is only three games behind the No. 4-ranked Carolina Cowboys.
Whitehorse humorously likened his role on the team to that of a basketball center, highlighting that every member has a specific role to play. He added, “Sometimes I don’t want to be in position to
get on one of those kinds of bulls, but if there’s anyone to get the job done, I can do it.”
As the PBR Camping World Team Series takes a brief break before heading to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for the Freedom Fest event from September 8 to 10, Whitehorse contemplates participating in the PBR Buckin’ on the Rez Challenger Series event in Window Rock, Arizona, the following weekend. While his attendance remains uncertain, Whitehorse’s dedication to entertaining his hometown crowd remains unwavering.
The Arizona Ridge Riders’ next home event will take place just over a month from now, promising more thrilling action for their loyal fans.

Elizabeth “Betty” Jean PumphreyA Life Celebrating Grace and Legacy
Fort Worth, Texas - Elizabeth Jean Lane Pumphrey, fondly known as Betty, gracefully concluded her century-long journey on May 30, 2023, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will forever be cherished.
Betty was born on February 25, 1923, to George Irvin and Lottie Simpson Lane on the Davis Ranch in Concho County, Texas, where her father served as the ranch manager. In her early years, she embraced her Texas roots with pride and relished the experience of growing up on a ranch, reveling in nature as a true country girl. As she began her schooling, she adopted the endearing moniker “Betty” to distinguish herself from another Elizabeth.
With a lineage tracing back to Texas pioneers, Betty held her heritage dear to her heart. After completing high school in Eastland, she pursued her education at Tarleton Junior College, where she was elected homecoming queen, before graduating from Texas State College for Women (now TWU) in 1943.
Her journey took her to Dallas, where she embarked on a career in sales and modeling at Neiman Marcus, one of the city’s premier stores. However, her life took a significant turn when she moved to Avoca, Texas, in 1950. There, she became an integral part of the local school system, leading the homemaking department and coaching the girls’ basketball team, which achieved victory at the state championship.
It was in Stamford, Texas, where Betty’s fate intertwined with that of Jay Pumphrey, a local rancher, on a memorable blind date. Their fathers’ shared history at Texas A&M brought them together, and they soon tied the knot in Eastland. Together, they built a beautiful life on Jay’s family ranch in Stonewall County, near Old Glory, and were blessed with three children.
As a devoted rancher’s wife, Betty embraced the role with joy, opening her heart and home to countless guests, from cowboys to oilmen and cattle buyers. Her hospitality knew no bounds, making every visitor feel welcomed and cherished. In 1961, she joined Jay in Fort Worth, where he took charge of the Burnett Estates under the esteemed Anne Burnett Windfohr, or “Miss Anne.” These estates encompassed vast lands, totaling about 500,000 acres, including the Four Sixes and two Triangle Ranches, known for their oil, cattle, and horses.
Throughout their years at the Burnett Estates, Betty and Jay savored unforgettable travels with Miss Anne and an expansive circle of friends in the horse and cattle industries. Their home in Ruidoso, New Mexico, became a cherished summer gathering place for many decades. Betty’s love for horse races, rodeos, cattle sales, and Texas A&M events became a shared passion with Jay, who was a proud Aggie, much like her father, brother, and sons.
A voracious reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Betty devoured books on diverse subjects, exemplifying her inquisitive nature. She also found joy in gardening and actively participated in her children’s activities, supporting PTA, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and Arlington Heights High Boosters, among others. A patron of the arts, she introduced her kids to the cultural delights of Fort Worth, though they still favored spending their leisure time in the serene countryside.
Fondly remembered for her quick wit and exceptional sense of humor, Betty was adored not only by her husband but also by her entire family. Her role as a grandmother brought immense joy, and she cherished her five grandsons dearly. After Jay’s passing, their enduring love had spanned an impressive 52 years of marriage.
Betty’s dedication extended beyond her family life. She actively participated in various organizations, including Daughters of the Republic of Texas, PEO, the Monday Book Club at the Woman’s Club, Presbyterian Women, and the Ma-Jo Sunday school class at First Presbyterian Church.
Her legacy is one of integrity, graciousness, and a profound devotion to both family and God. Betty held education in high regard, especially for women, valuing independence, strong family bonds, and meaningful friendships. Her generosity knew no bounds, often surprising friends and acquaintances with thoughtful gifts that brightened their days. Her striking blue eyes and radiant smile will forever be missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jay, and her brother, George I. Lane, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, John and Rhonda Pumphrey, Jeff and Allison Pumphrey, Peggy and Steve Brotherton; her grandsons Lane Pumphrey, Jake Pumphrey, John Brotherton, Ben Brotherton, Sam Brotherton and his wife, Ilyssa; her great-granddaughter, Pierce Elizabeth Brotherton; and two nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Alan Davenport, the compassionate staff of VITAS Hospice, and Betty’s devoted caregivers: Debbie, Georgia, Linda, Lisa, Melba, and Misty.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Jay Pumphrey Animal Sciences Scholarship fund at the American Quarter Horse Foundation, c/o AQHF Scholarship Program, 2601 East Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX 79104, or to a charity of your choosing. Betty’s spirit of giving will continue to shine through these thoughtful contributions.
As we bid farewell to Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Pumphrey, let us celebrate a life that exemplified grace, love, and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory live on in our hearts forever.

recreation area in close proximity to Apache Junction. Commencing today, a 15-day public comment period concerning the draft Apache Junction Goldfield Recreation Area environmental assessment is underway.
The BLM has diligently crafted a range of alternatives for consideration in shaping the
future of this recreation area. The favored alternative entails the expansion of recreational opportunities, particularly for horseback riding, through the establishment of a day-use equestrian facility, along with associated amenities. This initiative aims to bolster the responsible management of
public lands, mitigate resource degradation, and enhance access to neighboring trails. The envisaged project area would encompass approximately 1,098 acres.
Written feedback can be conveyed via email to BLM_ AZ_LSFO_Goldfield@blm.gov, submitted online at the BLM National NEPA Register, or sent by mail to the Lower Sonoran Field Office, Attention: Goldfield Recreation Area, 2020 E. Innovative Blueprint to Shape
Outdoor Experiences on America’s Public Lands
Washington, D.C. – August 31, 2023 – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is extending a warm invitation to the public to participate in shaping the future of rec-
BLM Invites Public Engagement for Future Recreation Management Planning
reation management on America’s public lands. The groundbreaking “Blueprint for 21st Century Outdoor Recreation” is set to guide BLM’s decisions to proactively cater to the evolving demands for exceptional and distinctive
outdoor adventures, reinforcing the substantial investments in public lands under President Biden’s “Investing in America” agenda.
“During the last fiscal year, BLM welcomed over 81 million visitors to our public lands –marking a remarkable 40 per-
cent increase since 2012. While we are delighted with this trend, we also recognize the imperative for diverse and adaptive strategies to meet the needs of our growing guest count,” stated BLM Director Tracy Stone-Manning. “The Blueprint is designed to assist BLM in addressing the mounting demand for exceptional recreational experiences on our public lands.”
Managing recreational opportunities is an essential principle within BLM’s multipleuse mandate, aligning seamlessly with the agency’s mission to preserve the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the benefit of both present and future generations. The surging demand for recreational activities on public lands presents a unique opportunity to catalyze a transformational shift in how recreation is managed. This Blueprint will aid BLM in prioritizing investments and staffing to match current and future requirements.
BLM is actively seeking input from partners and the general public through a series of in-person and virtual roundtables dedicated to the Recreation Blueprint, organized by the Foundation for America’s Public Lands. Together with its partners, BLM will execute a comprehensive strategy to guide the agency in delivering the resources and experiences that visitors to public lands anticipate in the 21st century.
It’s important to note that the Blueprint is not a formal management plan; instead, it serves as a strategic framework to steer the agency’s efforts. The complete Blueprint document and an accompanying fact sheet can be accessed on our dedicated Recreation Strategy webpage. BLM enthusiastically welcomes feedback on how to best implement the Blueprint. To provide your input, please send an email to blm_recreation_feedback@blm.gov.

Mary Claire Piller Secures Gold in Young Rider Division at 2023 FEI North American Youth Dressage Championships
The 2023 FEI North American Youth Dressage Championships, presented by USDF, witnessed the crowning of two exceptional champions as the Young Rider and U25 divisions completed their individual championships. Mary Claire Piller, hailing from Oakdale, Tennessee, rode Caterina, Emily Brollier’s 2011 Hanoverian mare, to victory in the Young Rider division. Meanwhile, Emily Hewitt, representing Atlanta, Georgia, claimed the U25 championship title with Fidens, a 2010 KWPN gelding owned by Tammy Pearson.
Following her outstanding performance in the team test earlier in the week, Mary Claire Piller and Caterina continued to shine in the FEI Individual Young Rider test, securing the gold medal with a score of 70.147%.
Piller expressed her joy, stating, “My horse felt amazing. She always tries so hard for me in the ring. I really just wanted to lay down a quiet and consistent test and show my horse off where I could and try to improve on some things that we may have missed a little bit in the team test. And she really tried as hard as she could for me, and I couldn’t be happier with her.”
Reflecting on Caterina’s strengths, Piller praised her mare’s cadence in trot work, her balance, and her powerful movements. She also highlighted Caterina’s impressive extension and willingness to perform, particularly in the individual test.
Piller’s future plans include competing with Caterina in the
Young Rider division at the U.S. Dressage Festival of Champions later this month. Her ultimate goal is to reach the Grand Prix level.
Celsiana William delivered a commendable performance, riding her own Prima Ballerina, a 2011 Oldenburg mare, to a close second-place finish with a score of 69.912%, earning the silver medal.
Kat Fuqua, who hails from Atlanta, Georgia, clinched the bronze medal with her own Dreamgirl, a 2008 KWPN mare, achieving a score of 69.294%. Fuqua, a versatile equestrian who also competes in hunters and jumpers, expressed her gratitude for her partnership with Dreamgirl, her first dressage horse. She credited her success in the dressage arena to this special partnership and acknowledged her supportive team.
“I’ve had Dreamgirl for about three years. She was my first dressage horse ever, so I know her really well,” said Fuqua. “All of the dressage knowledge I have is basically from her, so it’s really special to be competing here with her.”
With her unwavering focus on dressage during this event, Fuqua also acknowledged the fantastic support system that enables her to juggle both jumpers and dressage, making her journey in both disciplines enjoyable and fulfilling.
Horse Lovers LOVE "Chasing Dreams: The True Story of the Youngest Tevis Cup Champion"
Chasing Dreams: The True Story of the Youngest Female Tevis Cup Champion is the incredible, action-packed memoir of Sanoma Blakeley’s 2019 Tevis Cup championship, won while riding her beloved horse Goober, and the tale of how she became the youngest woman to ever become a Tevis Cup champion. Beginning her endurance riding career at the age of seven, Blakeley writes about the years of training and teamwork required to win the most challenging and famous 100-mile horse race in the world aboard a horse she had originally acquired for free off of Craigslist.
Blakeley places readers on the ride with her so that they can experience the thrill of the most exciting horse endurance race in existence. Blakeley and Goober survive narrow
mountain trails winding through the Sierra-Nevadas, containing over 19,000 feet of elevation gain; three steep, grueling canyons; crossing the shoulder-high American River; riding at night with only the light of the moon to guide them; temperatures that soared over 115 degrees; and, most excitingly, the final neck-and-neck sprint to the finish against a four-time Tevis Cup champion and world class competitor after 100 miles of some of the most rugged mountain trails in the world.
When Blakeley and Goober cross the finish line just a few feet ahead of their competition and Blakeley becomes the youngest woman in history to win the Tevis Cup, a lifetime of hard work that began when the author started training as a small child and who had long dreamed of winning the Tevis Cup was finally rewarded. Chasing Dreams contains action, heartwarming twists, and an epic ending that will leave readers in tears.
"A remarkably personal journey of a girl and her horse as they chase their dream."

Ryder Wright Triumphs in Caldwell, Continues Stellar Comeback
Caldwell, Idaho – Aug. 29, 2023 – Ryder Wright’s remarkable comeback journey reached a triumphant peak at the Caldwell Night Rodeo, as he secured a spectacular victory that marked his remarkable return to the rodeo arena.
Wright had eagerly anticipated this moment for nearly two months, ever since his initial encounter with Powder River Rodeo’s Miss Valley at the Reno Rodeo in late June. Their first meeting resulted in a commendable 83.5-point ride, placing Wright fifth in the round. However, a slight stumble during the ride prevented the full potential of their partnership from being realized.
Reflecting on the past encounter, Wright expressed his eagerness, saying, “That’s a really awesome horse of Powder River’s. I definitely was looking forward to that matchup again someday.”
That “someday” arrived during the finals of the Caldwell Night Rodeo, where Wright’s rematch with Miss Valley blossomed into an extraordinary 88-point ride. This remarkable performance not only secured Wright the round victory but also earned him the coveted average title.
This victory is the latest milestone in Wright’s extraordinary journey since his return from injury. Forced to take a
hiatus from late June to recover from four broken ribs sustained during a hazardous incident where a horse smashed him into the chute’s wall, Wright’s determination and resilience have been awe-inspiring. Ironically, his reunion with Miss Valley marked one of his first rides upon returning to the arena. Since his comeback, the seven-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier has been on an unstoppable streak. Wright has amassed over $40,000 in winnings and added championship titles in Caldwell and Canby, Oregon, to his impressive resume. His triumph in Caldwell brought him a total purse of over $8,500.
Wright’s stellar performances have catapulted him back into the top 10 of the PRCA | RAM World Standings, erasing the setbacks incurred during his absence. With unwavering determination, Wright has set his sights on chipping away at the world standings, aiming to make a resounding impact at the upcoming National Finals Rodeo in December.
As he pursues this ambitious goal, Wright remains committed to maintaining his current pace of success, acknowledging the crucial role of drawing excellent horses. He expressed his optimism, saying, “I kind of had some trouble when I first came back, but I think we’ve got things squared away, and I feel like I’ve got the ball rolling again. They keep running good horses under me; that’s a big part of winning is drawing good horses, and I’ve been pretty lucky here the past few weeks, drawing good. So, hopefully, I’ll keep that rolling.”
In addition to Ryder Wright’s outstanding performance, other victors at the Playoff Series Rodeo included all-around cowboy Brushton Minton (earning $7,026 in tiedown roping and steer wrestling), bareback rider Taylor Broussard (with 174 points on two head), steer wrestler Stan Branco (with a time of 13.2 seconds on three head), team ropers Tyler Wade and Wesley Thorp (with a time of 15.7 seconds on three head), tie-down roper Haven Meged (with a time of 25.8 seconds on three head), barrel racer Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi (with a total time of 50.90 seconds on three runs), and bull rider Dustin Boquet (with 88.5 points on Powder River Rodeo’s Boo Ray).

Trenton Montero Dies from Injuries Suffered while Competing Aug. 10 at the Owyhee County Rodeo
Bareback rider Trenten Montero, who qualified for the 2019 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, passed away on Aug. 30, due to injuries he suffered during a ride on Aug. 10 at the Owyhee County Rodeo in Homedale, Idaho. He was 31.
Following Montero’s 79-point ride on Macza Pro Rodeo’s Half Crow in Homedale, the horse rolled on top of him, resulting in multiple serious injuries.
Montero was hospitalized at Saint Alphonsus Trauma Center in Boise, Idaho. He was 24th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $58,300.
Montero and his wife, Maria, have an infant son, Noah, who was born July 26. They were living in Jerome, Idaho.
“Trenten was the toughest human being I’ve been around my whole life,” said lifelong friend Joe Harper, a PRCA saddle bronc rider. “We traveled together to all the rodeos. He had big faith and a big heart for everybody. If you called and asked him for anything, he was always the first guy there, even if it meant driving 12 hours across the country to come help you. He had a way of making a guy laugh when you didn’t want to. He was a real goofball, but one we all loved dearly.
“He didn’t just go through the motions and act like your friend, he really invested into you. He wanted to make life good for the people around him. He also was so dang proud of his son.”
Harper also talked about Montero’s ability in the rodeo arena.
“Trenten came by it (rodeoing) a little bit, but a lot of it was just hard work and putting in a lot of time,” Harper said. “He busted his a** to get to the (NFR). He was talented in a lot of things. He rode bulls a little bit and broncs, but bareback riding won out on the others.”
Montero, who grew up in Winnemucca, Nev., bought his PRCA card in 2011. He qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo once – in 2019. That year, he finished 10th in the world standings with $170,296. He earned $89,538 at the NFR, highlighted by winning Round 2 with a 90.5-point ride on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Prairie Rose. His ride broke the Round 2 Wrangler NFR record of 89.5 points, set by Cimarron Gerke in 2004.
“It is a huge honor to be able to get on a horse like that and being able to get by him was great,” Montero told the ProRodeo Sports News after the ride. “I thought I was going to be on the ground more than once during that ride and I feel like I definitely worked hard for it, and I’m humbled to be part of that legacy.”
Tom Glause, CEO of the PRCA, offered his condolences to the Montero family.
“Trenten was a talented bareback rider and an exceptional young man,” Glause said. “His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him and admired his passion for rodeo and his love for his wife Maria and their infant son Noah, to whom we extend our sincerest sympathies as they grieve the loss of this fine cowboy.”

Ryan Motes’ victory in this contest earns him a valuable $1,000 gas card. Notably, Rocky was nominated by the esteemed veteran announcer Anthony Lucia.
Ryan Motes shared his admiration for Rocky, saying, “Rocky is a good size horse, he’s pretty big, especially for a heel horse. Man, he can really, really run and really stop. For a horse that is big, he can run and stop. He has really good timing with the cattle for such a big horse. That’s what has made him so durable.”

horse event. The 92-yearold Shatner has been an avid horseman for decades, owning, breeding, showing, and promoting Saddlebreds. He still owns a farm in Versailles, Kentucky called Belle Reve.
“It is important to note that Bill was 90 years old when he made the victorious drive showing how the Standardbred can be enjoyed and shown by a driver at any age,” Lexie Rattermann, a spokesperson for Kentucky Venues, told a local ABC affiliate. “For Bill, it is more than the thrill of a win or the drive, but about the exhilaration that comes from total concentration and becoming one with each of his horses. Bill has a deep appreciation and love for every horse in his life.”
According to ARHPA website, the Hall of Fame is awarded annually to a nominated candidate who has expanded the horizons of showing roadster horses or ponies, has contributed to the longevity of and participation in the discipline, or who has given of his or her talents to further the successful promotion of showing roadsters. The award is based on substantial contributions over a number of years.

Riley Webb Shatters Tie-Down Roping Earnings Record in Regular Season
Denton, Texas – August 29, 2023 – In the world of sports, the “it” factor in athletes becomes evident at a young age. It’s characterized by a blend of skill, unwavering work ethic, and the ability to shine on the biggest stages. Rodeo, as a sport, is no exception.
Riley Webb, a tie-down roper hailing from Denton, Texas, burst onto the ProRodeo scene during his rookie season, setting it ablaze. Not only did he clinch the coveted Resistol Rookie of the Year title, but he also made his debut at the illustrious Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Webb’s remarkable debut season concluded with a 10th-place finish in the PRCA | RAM World Standings, amassing earnings of $188,597.
While his rookie year was indeed impressive, Webb’s sophomore season on the rodeo circuit’s grandest stage has been nothing short of remarkable. With over a month remaining in the season, Webb has already pocketed an impressive $218,400. This astounding achievement surpasses the previous record set by tie-down roper Shad Mayfield, who earned $203,508 in a single regular season before the NFR in 2022.
Setting such high standards is no coincidence for the 19-yearold sensation. Webb shared his perspective, saying, “You always want to set high goals and do the best you can. That was a goal in the back of my mind, but obviously the main goal is to win a world title. All of that will take care of itself if you set your goals high enough and continue working hard.”
Webb’s performance has positioned him excellently to pursue that world title in 2023. As of August 16th, he stands as the leader in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $218,400 in earnings. In Mayfield’s record-breaking year in 2022, Webb was sharing the arena with him, and the success he’s experiencing this season doesn’t come as a surprise to Mayfield.
Mayfield expressed his confidence in Webb, saying, “We all knew this was coming for Riley. He’s a talented roper, and he’s always excelled at every level he’s competed in. This year’s success isn’t luck; he’s a born winner.”
Webb’s exceptional 2023 journey commenced in the best possible fashion when he clinched the championship title at the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo in Denver. This marked the beginning of what many consider a historic winter run. Between January 20th and March 25th, Webb amassed a staggering $94,429, with significant victories in Houston and Abilene, Texas.
Reflecting n his achievements, Webb attributed much of his success to his equine partner, Boots. He stated, “It seemed like I was placing just about everywhere this winter, and winning Houston was definitely a big boost. For a while, it felt like nothing could go wrong, but if I’m being honest, I’d say a lot of my success this season has been because of my horses. I wouldn’t be where I am this season without Boots.”

Bushwacker’s unforgettable journey came to an end at the 2014 PBR World Finals, where he bucked off Mike Lee in a mere 2.13 seconds, earning an impressive bull score of 46.5 points.
His legacy endures, as Bushwacker still holds the record for the most consecutive premierseries buckoffs with an astounding 42. His only loss was to his archrival J.B. Mauney, who achieved a remarkable 95.25 points on August 16, 2013 –exactly a decade ago. These two remarkable competitors faced off 13 times across all levels of competition, with Mauney securing victory on just one occasion.

Florida barn will be the world's largest 3D-printed building
Why it matters: 3D-printed buildings tend to be promoted as a promising new solution for an industry wielding a major carbon footprint — but experts warn there's not enough evidence to support that claim just yet.
Driving the news: Once it's complete, the 3D-printed luxury equestrian barn in Wellington, Florida will overtake a building in Oman as the world's largest 3D-printed structure.
According to Printed Farms, the Florida-based startup developing the project, the building will have a total floor area of 10,678 square feet. While the team finished the 3D-printing portion of the site build Wednesday, the installation of doors,
windows, electrical fittings and other structural components is still needed. Printed Farms founder Jim Ritter told Axios construction is expected to be finished by the end of August — refuting other reports that the build was already completed.
How it works: To create the 3D-printed horse farm, the Printed Farms team used a COBOD printer — a machine that extrudes concrete, mortar and other printable materials out of a specialized nozzle, with segments deposited layer by layer.
"There's always a tradeoff. And there is no perfect method yet. But yes, we're very concerned" about cement manufacturing's contribution to climate change, said Ritter. "We want green products."
Meanwhile: Scientists are working to create a standard type of construction material that reduces the amount of cement in concrete, replacing it with bio-inspired materials to make it sustainable, said Elias Ali, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
"The biggest concern is, as long as the 3D-printers are using the same amount of cement, or even larger amounts of cement, we end up having the same [CO2] impact as conventional building," said Ali, who has researched the life cycle assessment of the environmental impact of 3D-printing houses compared to conventional buildings.
"The less cement you use, the less carbon dioxide emissions that you're going to produce."
The bottom line: "Like any other construction technology that's out there, we cannot forget the fact — we have to build faster, but we need to build safer and [more] sustainable, with a lower carbon footprint," said Ramanujam.
