Bob’s Custom Saddles - Chris Weaver Interview

Q - Bob’s Custom Saddles has stepped up BIG TIME as a Sponsor at Sun Circuit, you even now have the branding on one of the main arenas. Can you tell us a bit about that big step?

A - Over the past 3 years we have been enjoying the growth of this event. The Sun Circuit is one of the largest events for all disciplines, so as they grow year after year, we have also grown our support of this great event.

Q - This year, 2021, likely has the largest number of horses on record at Sun Circuit - how does that make you feel since it happens right here in your own backyard?

A - It is great - we love all horse events that come to town. It helps build the equine industry with such a great event and gives us a place to showcase our products.

Q - It is said that, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” You have steered the companies energy into supporting the top events and organizations in our industry - that is huge benefit for the equestrian community. You are introducing the Bob’s brand to so many people with one event sponsorship at a time and helping to build the brand, while supporting the communities in “one step.” What was your thought process behind this plan?

what makes the difference for our loyal customers. It is an important part of what they want and what they are looking for.

Q - A new saddle called “The Fappani” has just been developed by Bob’s Custom Saddles. In fact, Andrea Fappani won the NRHA Open Level 4 Futurity Championship riding in that NEW saddle in December 2020! What went into the R & D to create that saddle?

A - It all started with a phone call from Andrea Fappani! He had thoughts and ideas for creating a new Fappani Reining Saddle. Listening to Andrea, we designed some new trees with a different seat and feel. With Andrea riding the product and with us staying in direct contact with him during every step of the process, we were able to create the new Fappani Reining saddle.

Q - What is new and different about “The Fappani” saddle?

A - The seat and close contact skirt are the two main features changed on this new saddle that we created with Andrea.

Q - Will Bob’s be set up at Sun Circuit so we can see “The Fappani” ?

A - We have two dealers that will be set-up with stock saddles at Sun Circuit, and one dealer will also be at the Cactus Classic this year as well.

Q - Are any Bob’s saddles (including “The Fappani” ) available to buy “ready to go” or are they all custom ordered?

A - Bob’s Custom Saddles has always supported events and riders. The purpose of different types of events is to focus on the Non Pro and Amateur rider, which gives us the opportunity to meet people new to the equestrian industry. We sponsor 18 to 20 events each year. They help to drive demand for our products. We also sponsor IEA and Youth events which helps to grow the industry. These young people are the future of our community. Without supporting the growth of Youth competitors we lose the opportunity to help to grow the industry. We have a motto at our company, “We are a little company, that does great things!”

Q - Most horseman that ride a Bob’s saddle will never ride anything else- why is brand loyalty so strong with a Bob’s saddle?

A - We have been told that the quality, feel and the Rideability of our saddles are the reasons people keep coming back. Working hard on Quality, to maintain the feel and consistent rideability is

A - Yes! We have dealers throughout the United States and 13 other Countries that have Bob’s Custom Saddles in stock. If a dealer does not have what you want, they can place a custom order for a saddle that is created exactly to their liking and design.

Q - What is Bob’s Custom Saddles goal?

A - Our goal as Bob’s Custom Saddles is to build a saddle of quality, craftsmanship and performance. We have spent the last 46 years working on delivering what the rider needs and wants. We have worked hard to create new products, for example, a New Mounted Shooting Saddle. We have redesigned our Silver show saddles to meet the markets needs. As well as new colors, silver and skirts designs for the Reining, Cowhorse and roping market. We also work closely with all of our pro-endorsees and riders to make sure that we are building the best products of today and the future!

Ride A Bobs!!

Chris Weaver

Q - What was the reason behind you designing a new Reining saddle?

A - There is always something to improve. The original Bob’s Custom Saddles Fappani Reining saddle is a great platform to start with, but there are quite a few new features that I think will improve the saddle.

Q - Can you tell us about why this new design is so special?

A - The main feature is that it will put the rider in the perfect sitting position throughout the maneuvers of reining pattern. It’s even more close contact to the horse then the old version and will bring the feeling of your horse underneath the rider to a different level.

Q - How can Non-Pros, as well as the professional rider benefit from this new design?

A - Like I said for the nonpros, I think the advantage will be that the saddle sits you in the ideal position throughout the pattern, For professional riders I think the next level of close contact to the horse will be very beneficial. I also think that for professional riders, offering two width of the tree, this saddle is able to adapt to the different confirmation of horses.

Andrea Fappani Interview

Q - How does this new design help the rider?

A - Anytime you feel that you are in a centered position on the horse, without having to readjust all the time, I think it’s beneficial to the rider.

Q - How does this saddle help the horse and its performance?

A - The centered position of the rider will allow to not interfere with the balance of the horse while performing the maneuvers. The saddle is lighter than most so I think that will also be to the advantage for the horse and with two different options for the tree width it will allow the rider to choose the right saddle for each horse.

WestWorld’s Brian Dygert Interview

Q- As a result of the pandemic the City of Scottsdale invested in placing filtering systems in the North and South Halls and Equidome areas at Westworld.

A- These are air treatment processes and touchless points of consumer use.

Q- What are the benefits of the systems?

A- The benefits of the air treatment system is to provide cleaner and therefore more healthy air through the mechanical air handling systems. We installed ion treatment in the mechanical systems and there is UV treatment units mounted around the buildings that treat the air. These systems are treating the air on the molecular level in the TNEC. The air being pushed through the air handlers has a treatment process that is an ion treatment process that basically cleans or disinfects the air as the air is coming out of the compressors and headed into the building. This is similar to the same treatment process that is used in hospitals. The UV units are mounted slightly above head height and can be seen around the building including inside the restrooms that is treating the air as well. We also installed touchless processes to doors and hardware in restrooms so less hand contact or transmission of contagious molecules when using this facility.

Q- How much did the system cost?

A- Everything we did to upgrade the facility for health and safety was $473,996.00

Sun Circuit & WestWorld

From overcoming the obstacles of producing a large event during the COVID pandemic, to meeting the unique needs of a giant horse show that incorporates a horse auction and rodeo, WestWorld of Scottsdale and the Arizona Quarter Horse Association have been working together to make it happen. “We are very excited to see Sun Circuit continue to grow” says WestWorld General Manager, Brian Dygert, who added. “Again, this year, they are showcasing the use of the North Hall for the use of twomain arenas, a feature at WestWorld we want to share with the horse community”.

The Director of the event, Doug Huls has worked

closely with Dygert to figure out a game-plan that meets the safety requirements while opening the event up to spectators. The public is invited to attend the horse shows, and horse auction with free admission. There is a charge to attend the Parada del Sol Scottdale Rodeo, check online for tickets.

“We are expecting our largest event ever”, stated Doug Huls. “We want to celebrate the long-time relationship between the City of Scottsdale, WestWorld, and AzQHA with a great event this year.”, he added.
