located in the north. The County is roughly rectangular, following the north shore of Lake Ontario as its southerly border and Rice Lake as its northerly border. It is 62 kilometres long, 20 kilometres wide at the west and 42 kilometres wide at the east. The County is divided into three maintenance areas, the west end, the north end, and the south end. In the winter, there are four areas created for winter control, to accommodate the increase with the inclusion of the downloaded highways. The west end is based from the Cobourg depot and the north and south areas are based from the Morganston Depot. A complement of 15 tandem trucks is used in maintaining the road system to meet the requirements of providing a well-maintained transportation system.

A favourite route for many is the paved one-way driving loop (Lighthouse Lane and Paxton Drive) around the peninsula. This road has a designated walking/bike lane and is ploughed in the winter. This is still a road however and walkers are urged to be cautious,
particularly in the busy summer months. For those wanting a more natural experience Presqu’ile has 12 kilometres of traditional off-road trails. All trails are clearly marked with coloured plastic blazes and are cleared of dead-fall on a regular basis.
