General Services Fire & Emergency Services The Municipality of Trent Hills is a 911 emergency community.
FIRE SERVICES
The Municipality operates three fire departments: one in each ward of the Municipality, with a compliment of 57 dedicated and conscientious volunteer firefighters. Some outlying areas are covered under First Response agreements with neighbouring fire departments ensuring a high level of fire protection and medical aid assistance to all areas.

LOWER TRENT CONSERVATION Environmental Services Lower Trent Conservation is a community-based nonprofit environmental protection agency that works closely with municipal, provincial, and federal government partners, landowners, and community groups to conserve, restore, and manage the natural resources within their watershed jurisdiction. Residents are encouraged to contact Lower Trent regarding a variety of environmental services including: • Obtaining a permit for construction activities adjacent to any watercourse or wetland • Advice and financial assistance for tree planting, shoreline naturalization, invasive species control, and other land stewardship activities • Water quality and quantity monitoring • Drinking water source protection • Outdoor recreation opportunities • Youth environmental education programs • Flood forecasting and protection • Volunteering

CROWE VALLEY CONSERVATION
Since 1958, the Crowe Valley Conservation (CVC) has worked in partnership with its ten member municipalities and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). With its head office in Marmora, the CVC operates 13 dams along the Crowe River and its tributaries. The CVC also maintains a stream flow forecasting center to help reduce the risk of flooding. Managing over 2,000 square kilometres of territory, the CVC maintains 1,300 acres of conservation land divided between four main conservation areas, including the Crowe Bridge Conservation Area located in Trent Hills.
Planning and Permits
The CVC has in effect the Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses Regulations (Ontario Regulation 159/06) made under the Conservation Authorities Act. This regulation prevents or restricts development and site alterations near water and wetlands to protect you and the public from flooding, erosion, and other hazards. The CVCA also provides planning and technical advice to assist the municipalities in our watershed in fulfilling their land use planning responsibilities associated with natural hazard management, natural heritage and water resources (as outlined in the Provincial Policy Statement). Considering the natural environment is an important part of land use planning. When staff review individual applications for development made under the Planning Act, we look to ensure natural hazards, natural heritage features, and water features will not be negatively affected by the proposed development. At the same time, we work to ensure that a completed development project will not itself be negatively impacted by natural hazards, including flooding.

Bag Tag Info • Remember the three-bag limit!
Residents may place up to, but no more than, three bags of household garbage at the curb for weekly collection. Place a $2.75 green bag tag sticker on each bag. Each bag can weigh no more than 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Bags placed in garbage cans should be tagged on the bag not on the can. Size of Garbage cans/bins no larger than 80 litres (17 gallons). No oversized bins/ cans please. Full bag tag MUST be visible for collection. Garbage tags can be purchased at all municipal offices, including the County office, landfill and transfer stations, as well as a number of convenience and retail stores. Some vendors charge a handling fee of 10 per cent (a maximum of $3.02 per tag). TRANSPORTATION Accessible Service
Transportation is a significant aspect of life and allows people to attend appointments, social and recreational outings and conduct business to meet the requirements of their daily life. Community Care Northumberland operates two distinct transportation services designed to assist residents of Northumberland County who are seniors or adults with disabilities who do not have access to a vehicle or do not have the ability to drive, or have mobility challenges or special needs, or are seniors, adults, or youth who live in rural parts of Northumberland County.
1. Volunteer Driving Program
This service is available to adults who are aging, have special needs, or are recovering from illness or injury, with priority given based on assessed need. Rides to attend: appointments (medical drives take priority), meetings, work, school, social, shopping, or recreational activities. To book a ride for the Volunteer Driving Program, you must pre-register as a client. This program transports clients to destinations within and outside Northumberland County. Must be a registered client to use this service. Call Community Care Northumberland • 1.866.514.5774 A volunteer driver provides transportation using their
personal vehicle. They transport clients to destinations within Northumberland County as well as outside the County for medical, social, banking, recreational purposes and activities of daily living requirements. Volunteers provide door-to-door service as needed. There is a fee for service. Please contact your local Community Care Northumberland office to book a ride. 48 hours notice to book rides is preferable.
2. Specialized Transportation Program
This program has been consolidated into two services and includes transportation for both accessible and rural needs.
Accessible Service:
This service provides accessible transportation for residents of Northumberland County who have mobility challenges or special needs. Rides to attend appointments (medical drives take priority), meetings, social, shopping, or recreational activities.
Rural Service:
The goal of this service is to offer affordable, accessible, and sustainable rural transportation within the County for all residents of Northumberland County. Following its designation as Canada’s Ultimate Fishing Town in 2012, a group of local citizens committed to commemorate the honour by establishing permanent sculptures. Working with critically acclaimed artist Bill Lishman, the first installation of the School of Fish was Hastings Pisces Pete – a 12-foot stainless steel Walleye – the most popular fish for local anglers, and a revered game fish. Useful City Information TRENT HILLS 12,900
More than 12,900 people call the Municipality of Trent Hills home. It boasts the Trent-Severn Waterway, the rolling hills of Northumberland Population County, and three vibrant and distinct communities – Warkworth, Hastings, and Campbellford, all surrounded by fertile farmland, historic hamlets, and open skies. Art and culture are celebrated and entwined with the communities, as are watersports and commerce. Trent Hills is an easy commute to Peterborough, Bellville, and Cobourg, a nice drive to the nation’s capital, and just close enough to Toronto to be convenient without sacrificing its unique charm. Hastings is recognized for its world-class fishing and boating, and is home to the Hastings Village Marina, boutiques, the historic Lockmaster’s House, and locks 18 and 19. At the mouth of Rice Lake, life on the water is a central theme to this village of 1,300. The Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge is accessible via the Rotary Trail, and locks 11 and 12 allow boaters to safely bypass the raging rapids – all an easy walk from downtown. The rolling hills of Northumberland County are renowned for their stunning vistas at every turn – a reputation well-earned. Stretching from Lake Ontario to Rice Lake, this slice of paradise we call home continually offers new discoveries. Whether we’re hoping to research its history, enjoy its natural beauty, or create new memories, Northumberland County will always satisfy our curiosity. On June 1 and 2, 2019, thanks to participation in the Ontario Heritage Trust’s Doors Open, we have a chance to experience it in a different way. Dozens of venues throughout the County literally open their doors to visitors, all at no charge, offering tours, history, experiences, and of course, fond memories. We get to peek behind the scenes, tour public buildings and private homes, see history preserved and heritage repurposed. In Trent Hills, venues confirmed at press time include the Campbellford-Seymour Historical Centre, the Hastings Lock Master’s House, Church Key Brewery, School House Gardens, and the Grand Maple Event Centre.

Dr. Christina Davy is a Species at Risk Research Scientist with MNRF. She has worked with bats for over 10 years and will tell us all about these amazing creatures. Learn about Ontario species and how to identify them. She will also talk to us about the work she is doing looking into white nose syndrome, its effects on our bats, and what we can do to help. She will show us examples of bat boxes and what we need to know if we are installing them at our homes. Regular Park day use fees apply
