Innovating the Invisible & Recycling Pollution
with Anirudh Sharma
December 14th at 1:00pm Anirudh, is a pioneering creator of 'invisible' interfaces that interact with human senses and the environment. Anirudh’s work focuses on turning innovative ideas from sketches into real-world products, blending wearables and machine intelligence. Anirudh has made significant strides at the convergence of technology, design, and environmental impact, earning him numerous awards and features in TED, Time magazine, and recognition as one of MIT TR35's '35 under 35' Inventors. Please join us on Thursday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. AST. Students, teachers, and parents are encouraged to join independently or in groups. This session is most suitable for Grade 6 and above.

Innovation Challenge: Robotz got Brilliance
We're looking for a Program Specialist in the area of Halifax to support young people, educators and community leaders to develop creativity, innovation, digital skills, and a socially responsible entrepreneurial mindset. This position is a full-time (35 hours/week), contract position starting immediately until 31-March-2024 with an opportunity to renew. Learn more and apply today!
INSPIRATION MAKER: Brilliant Labs Magazine
The health of the ocean plays a crucial role in climate regulation, mitigating the impacts of climate change. Ocean currents effectively distribute heat worldwide, influencing temperature and weather patterns. Moreover, the ocean acts as a significant absorber, taking in more than 90% of the heat and around 30% of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from human activities.This global competition challenges students ages 12-18 to develop innovative solutions to some of the oceans' top challenges. Students will be competing in one of three categories: Marine renewable energy, Marine autonomous systems, and Healthy marine Life. The inaugural competition will be held virtually on Dec 16th, 2023. This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this Nova Scotia ’s "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: CORRY SIMMS JUBILEE ELEMENTARY Corry, a dedicated Grade four teacher at Jubilee Elementary, goes beyond traditional methods to cultivate a dynamic learning environment. With unwavering commitment, she empowers students to explore the curriculum through innovative methods. Corry's classroom is a hub of creativity, where she fosters a growth mindset by encouraging her pupils to design, create, and problem-solve. Her approach goes beyond textbooks, with many hands-on activities which instill a love for learning in her students. Corry's passion for education transforms each lesson into a captivating journey, inspiring a lifelong love for learning and fostering skills that extend far beyond the textbooks.
Project Highlight SCHOOL: JUBILEE ELEMENTARY, SYDNEY MINES MIDDLE SCHOOL & BROOKLAND ELEMENTARY Students at Jubilee elementary had the opportunity to participate in creating their very own stop motion animation. Grades three, four and five students developed their own story board, created their own sets and edited their own video to a finished product. At Brookland Elementary students immersed themselves in their very own virtual environment using a program called CoSpaces. The grade 5 students created and coded different aspects of their world to represent some of their favorite things. Lisa MacLennan at Sydney Mines Middle School is working very hard at updating their Maker Space so that students can work independently on projects in ways that interest them. From using green screen technology to stop motion animation to exploring electricity with paper circuits, students at Sydney Mines Middle School will have the opportunity to explore with a maker mindset.
