Innovating the Invisible & Recycling Pollution

with Anirudh Sharma

December 14th at 1:00pm Anirudh, is a pioneering creator of 'invisible' interfaces that interact with human senses and the environment. Anirudh’s work focuses on turning innovative ideas from sketches into real-world products, blending wearables and machine intelligence. Anirudh has made significant strides at the convergence of technology, design, and environmental impact, earning him numerous awards and features in TED, Time magazine, and recognition as one of MIT TR35's '35 under 35' Inventors. Please join us on Thursday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. AST. Students, teachers, and parents are encouraged to join independently or in groups. This session is most suitable for Grade 6 and above.

INSPIRATION MAKER: Brilliant Labs Magazine DECEMBRE 2023

The health of the ocean plays a crucial role in climate regulation, mitigating the impacts of climate change. Ocean currents effectively distribute heat worldwide, influencing temperature and weather patterns. Moreover, the ocean acts as a significant absorber, taking in more than 90% of the heat and around 30% of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from human activities.This global competition challenges students ages 12-18 to develop innovative solutions to some of the oceans' top challenges. Students will be competing in one of three categories: Marine renewable energy, Marine autonomous systems, and Healthy marine Life. The inaugural competition will be held virtually on Dec 16th, 2023. CNA/MICA & Marathon Gold

In collaboration with CNA/MICA and Marathon Gold, Lakeside Academy in Buchans, Newfoundland, recently launched an educational initiative to promote diversity awareness among Grade 7-12 students. The focus was on introducing them to the dynamic workplace environment of a mine site, specifically the Valentine Lake Project. Students were tasked with understanding and accommodating various diagnoses among employees. For instance, a group addressing Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) created a vocalized taskmanagement program for organization. Another group focused on Social Anxiety, using 3D printing to craft a fidget and design a unique conveyor belt system for a smoother dining experience in crowded situations. Throughout this engaging project, students honed practical skills like coding and 3D design while gaining valuable insights into the principles of inclusion. Their inventive solutions showcased a deep understanding of diversity and exemplified the power of creative problem-solving in real-world scenarios,

Inspiration Makers!

This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this New Brunswick ’s "Inspiration Maker!" WHO: JONATHAN DUNNE WHERE: GROS MORNE ACADEMY, ROCKY HARBOUR NL

Jonathan, an innovative Maker teacher at Gros Morne Academy in Rocky Harbour, NL, seamlessly integrates diverse subjects, emphasizing collaboration and student feedback. In this tight-knit community, he tackles challenges through cross-curricular activities. Beyond teaching, he serves as the school's tech expert, basketball coach, and student council advisor. Jonathan's story embodies resilience and passion, emphasizing the belief that there are multiple paths to success. "A fork has multiple forks"! His advice: keep learning, stay outside the box, and be the spark that ignites passion.

Project Highlight SCHOOL: HOLY CROSS SCHOOL, NL The Grade 7/8 Science class at Holy Cross School in Eastport embarked on an exciting project to explore and communicate the intricacies of the water cycle. Under the guidance of Mrs. Shelley Dalton-Stead, students were encouraged to unleash their creativity. Students presented their learning through a large variety including podcasts, songs, plays, dioramas, cakes and posters!
