a peachy interview Kylie stewart

How did you get into the wedding industry? I've always been designing invites through my freelance design business Peachy Flamingo. It all started when I created elements for our wedding in March 2013 that it all started to take off. How can you help a bride and groom with their wedding? Peachy Flamingo offers a wide range of custom based design services, creating unique wedding stationary, signage, cake toppers, favours and more that not only reflects you as a couple but also sets the theme and tone for your big day. I work one on one with Bride & Grooms to help them achieve their vision or help create something that is truly memorable. I also offer tote & gift bags to help them say thank you to their bridal party or their guests. Can you describe your style for us? My style is a very personal style as the majority of my items are hand lettered, illustrated or incorporate one or two of those elements. Its kind of hard to describe - I would say its quite organic,

rustic, romantic & fun. Saying that my work is also very flexible due to my design background - I work closely with each client or Bride & groom to meet their brief and achieve the look and feel they are after. Macaroons or cupcakes? I'm a sucker for both. Veil or flower crown? Veil - classic & timeless. Favourite Brisbane Wedding venue? Being new to Brisbane I have yet to visit venues. But I do like The Powerhouse, Light Space - they are great blank canvases! Advice for brides-to-be? It’s your day, do it your way is my biggest piece of advice! Include your man in the planning process, even if he doesn’t want to! Allocate him little tasks such as picking the cake topper or creating the playlist. And just enjoy it, take it in, it goes by so quickly! Look out for Kylie’s illustrations in this edition!

One of the latest

trends to hit the wedding industry has been the rise in popularity of bridal boudoir. It is a sexy little gift that you can give your husband to be on the morning of the wedding as a reminder of the passion and love you share surrounding the lead up to your wedding. So what exactly is bridal boudoir? Bridal boudoir, or boudoir photography is about capturing an individual’s beauty through tasteful and intimate photographs. They can be photographs taken in a gorgeous little cocktail dress, beautiful lingerie or even some cheeky implied nudity. A boudoir session can be as conservative or as cheeky as you like. It is completely up to you. An exciting element of bridal boudoir is that it features some of your wedding items including your lingerie, shoes, garter and even your veil. And in terms of location they can be taken at a hotel, your bedroom or in your photographers studio. As well as creating some beautiful photographs for your husband to be, a boudoir session is also about celebrating who you are as a woman.

16

Nicole from Nicole Barralet Photography says ,“The bridal boudoir experience is as much about the woman doing the session as it is about creating a beautiful surprise for the husband to be. Each and every boudoir session that I photograph is focused on providing an amazing experience that leaves my clients looking and feeling amazing. I want my clients to leave my studio feeling more confident, more beautiful and empowered to embrace who they are.” So what do most brides to be do with the photos from the session? There are many different ways that you can display or use your boudoir photographs. The most popular gift item for husbands to be would have to be a cute little album featuring a collection of images from the bride to be. “Sometimes we even include a love letter and cute little quotes about how the groom makes the bride feel as a woman. I like to make the albums as personal as possible.” says Nicole. Another beautiful idea for displaying boudoir photographs is creating a series of beautiful black and white fine art nudes that can be displayed in the bedroom above the bed. Boudoir photography is always done tastefully, so they can be used as artpieces for the home. So why not consider a bridal boudoir session as a wedding present for your husband to be. It will certainly be unexpected! Photography by boudoir photographer Nicole Barralet Photography.

Boudoir is not just about getting your gear off in front of the camera, it is about celebrating who you are as a woman and bringing out your confidence.

Lovelocked Styling To kick of the 2014 wedding year, Lovelocked brought together some of Brisbane’s best wedding vendors on a glorious summer’s day. Perhaps one of the most unique features of Lovelocked was the reception styled area, where wedding stylists put together a team of vendors to each create their own reception table. The calibre of the styling was so spectacular that we knew we need to showcase it and talk to each stylist about their ideas and process behind what they had created.

The balcony at the Brisbane Powerhouse set the perfect scene for the day, with the area being planned and styled by Styled Events and florals by Blossom and Twine. The confetti bar by Peachy Flamingo was the cherry on top of this simple and sophisticated styled space.

Erin from Hope and Lace Our table was a treat for all who love things that sparkle and shine. We just went for it with Kate Dawes going nuts with the glitter vessels in a few different heights to give the table some different dimensions. Stationery complemented the glitter with gold sparkle features and carried on the purple and pink tones from the amazing blooms. While it may have seem like a glitter colour attack on the table, it was all part of the plan. From the gold beading on charger plates, to the round shaped watercolour painted on the mini cakes which also complemented the pink stemmed champagne flutes - everything had a place and tied in with the next thing the eye was drawn to. It was a chance for our team to stretch our wings and do something fun and exciting!Â

Lauren from Sunshine and Confetti We are loving bright bold colours at the moment, and emerald is up there as one of our faves. We decided to style our table based on this with watercolour stationery, and emerald glassware. We wanted to create a little oasis with the concrete walls and graffiti, so we added overhead foliage to bring the outside in and hanging candles to add a sense of warmth. The bright florals were the finishing touch bringing it all to life.Â

Tessa from Polkadot Events The Polkadot Events table was a combination of this years most popular colours- wood and purple. We (Polkadot, Kate Dawes and Love and Adore) designed the table to reflect the contemporary style of weddings today, with paper place mats, a long, continuous centrepiece (as opposed to hanging which is absolutely everywhere!) and the casual element of stools. As wedding vendors, we are exposed to so many different trends that it can be difficult to break away from the most popular styles that appear in blogs, magazines and websites. Our versatile table would be perfect for a wedding set amongst gardens, a winery or a beautiful restaurant.

Nikki from Miss Weddings MW couldn’t resist showing a little fusion flair on our very eloquent little table. The use of rustic vintage elements in our set through the use of miniature vintage milk bottles and glamorous pieces such as suspended glass candelabras, shiny table finishings, clear Tiffany Chairs and a garden of devastatingly pink Ombre stems, achieved the “Oh, isn’t that gorgeous” starry-eyed stare from Lovelocked’s patrons. In order to successfully weave two foe-styles together harmoniously, it is important to be respectful of each, keep it simple and execute it immaculately. MW are the Queens of ‘Glamour’ and love fusing ‘timeless-wow’ into any chosen theme.

Hannah from Bespoke Occasions Weddings, first and foremost, are fun, joy filled occasions, shared with your nearest and dearest. To truly represent this my focus was on creating a vibrant table, layered with details and textures that invited Lovelocked visitors to immerse themselves as guests at a Spanish inspired wedding. The vision behind the fondly dubbed ‘fiesta table’ began with a mutual love for a splash of the colour tangerine between myself, Senna of Senna Jean Designs and Ashleigh of Alba Roses. The table was set with crisp white linen and a stunning, overflowing floral centrepiece bursting with bright roses, dahlias, billy buttons and tiny oranges. The inclusion of stemless glassware, and gold accents through flatware and candle holders added a touch of modern glamour to the bright colour palette. Welcoming place cards, complete with Spanish greetings of ‘Hola’ continued the warm Mediterranean theme and playful origami games encouraged guests to get to know one another. Menus featuring sangria, tapas grazing platters, rustic shared plates and churros with dipping chocolate adorned each place setting. Bright tangerine napkins brought more texture and pattern to the table and the look was framed with classic white bentwood chairs.

ABBEY + CHRIS The proposal? SHE | Well I had no idea he had even been given a ring. We talked about marriage but I really had no idea when it would happen. I only knew something was up when he pulled his wallet out and started fumbling threw it. I mostly remember crying but also laughing at the same time. And I didn’t say yes, I said of course I will. He had no idea what to do with the ring and honestly I was so excited I forgot what finger it was to go on. For the rest of the day we were on such a high! Actually I remember calling my sisters and saying that Chris engaged me……. Clearly not thinking straight. HE | I was very nervous. I didn’t even know I was going to do it that day; I was just looking for the right moment for the past 3 months. Abbey decided we should go out for breakfast at Mount Tamborine. We both share a passion for the garden so I decided to take her to the botanical gardens while we were there. We came to a tropical rain forest section with a bench seat and I decided then and there that this was it. She said.. Of course I will!! Though I felt a little embarrassed because I didn’t know what finger or hand to place it on. I was so happy but also very relieved. On wedding planning? SHE | I basically took the project on myself and delegated jobs between my sisters. I had so many people offer their help; it was very over whelming but very appreciated. My flowers will be created by a long time family friend and are being paid for by my godmothers. My bouquet will be very sentimental. I hope to have it preserved. So far I have found it a lot of fun organising my wedding. I have only 3 months to do it so I have kept it very simple. The hardest things I have found are the choice of colours and also music. HE | I have been very lucky. Abbey has done just about everything. I have just made sure I do what ever she needs me to. Photographer: The Wanderers and the Wolves

TASH + JP The thing you love most about each other? SHE | The laughter, every day we are laughing together which makes life so fun. I love him more and more each day. HE| The thing I love the most about Tash is that she is so caring of others and she also smells so good all the time The proposal? SHE| The proposal was amazing, I couldn’t ask for anything more (Sydney Harbour Bridge). The view was breathtaking, the whole moment was captured with photos which makes it all the more special to be able to relive and remember it over and over. HE | The proposal was my genius thought up plan in which she had no idea. We were in the middle of moving from Kalgoorlie to Brisbane, with a stopover in Sydney for a little holiday. I thought of what could be a great spot for a proposal, which was the Sydney harbour bridge, so I booked in a harbour bridge tour and at the top got down on one knee and proposed. It was amazing she had no idea. On wedding planning? SHE | I have done most of the planning which I’m really enjoyed, the Groom thought I was the organiser out of the two but he gives his input and suggestions on what’s special to him. I must say my bridesmaid (6 BM’s) have been amazing with helping). HE | I am hopeless, Tash has been amazing and done everything, I only had to select what beer to drink and food to eat. FIRST date Not your typical romantic dinner and a movie. Having met at work (we both work at a high school), we quickly stroked up a conversation about our passion for health and fitness. I (Carl) thought it would be a nice ice-breaker to have a mini competition in the school gym. I organised three different stations of games. The first was a rugby throwing competition, the second badminton and the third a basketball shoot out. The overall loser then had to buy dinner. I thought this was a clever move as it guaranteed a second date!

THE PROPOSAL Caragh: I imagined I would accept his proposal gracefully (and photogenically!), but instead I giggled my way through it and even cut him off mid-sentence to ask: ‘Are you PROPOSING to me?!’ Mark: An odd stress that’s hard to put into words. Caragh and I had openly spoken about getting engaged and we both knew it was only a matter of time. Still, when it came to ‘the time’ the nerves and butterflies were hard to shake.

BRIDE’s ADVICE Don’t let the stress and fuss detract from the reason you are doing it all in the first place! You’re there to marry your best friend and nothing should overshadow that. The opinions that count the most belong to the both of you, so make sure you put them first.

The proposal Warwick proposed at Splendour in the Grass, 2012. He bought a simple ring from the Markets there to ask for my hand in Marriage as he thought he would drop my real ring in the mud and as he got down on one knee he did exactly that, dropped the ring in the mud. Each year we now go to Splendour to celebrate!

We wrote our own vows which was a really special moment for me too.

GROOM’S PROPOSAL I decided to propose to Nikki on Christmas Day as it was the first Christmas we had spent together and I wanted it to be special. I was really nervous and could have screamed when she said her friends were going to be on the same beach. I had the ring in the pocket of my shorts and I really didn’t want to carry it there all day just incase it fell out. Luckily when we got to the beach there was no sign of our friends, she tried to call them but they didn’t answer! I made my excuses about the Esky being to heavy and needing to put it down so we could get set up on the beach and enjoy some time just the two of us. I wanted to propose before our friends interrupted us and I was so excited to give her the ring. As soon as she turned her back to get something out of the Esky I knew that was my chance. She was so shocked to see me there with the ring but I could tell by the smile on her face she couldn’t have been happier! She said yes and we had some champagne together before joining our friends a little later on to celebrate!

Wedding planning The wedding planning was easy. I had never been the girl who dreamed of getting married so initially I had no idea what we should have. We knew the wedding would have to be in the UK so our friends and family over there could attend. I am from Nottingham and that’s where my parents live, and only an hour away from most of Jacob’s family so it seemed to make sense to do it there. We picked a restaurant bar that sits on the River Trent and is lovely and central for people traveling to the wedding. I found the whole process very easy and lots of fun and was able to do it all remotely from here in Brisbane, with a little bit of help from my family in Nottingham. I did all the styling, flowers and hair myself and this worked well. I was really happy with the result and the staff and the food at the riverbank where amazing.

THE wedding DAY The wedding day was the best day ever! I never understood the fuss of getting married until that day. I had a great time with my brother and best man in the morning, then we went to have a drink to calm my nerves and ran into a load of wedding guests and Nikki’s brothers. I was blown away by how Nikki looked when she walked down the isle, she always looks nice but on the wedding day she was breathe taking. The
