When I got engaged, I was frustrated by the wedding magazines I looked at because most of the beautiful wedding vendors I was seeing, were based somewhere other than Brisbane. There wasn’t something pretty I could look through knowing that what I was seeing was easily accessible to me and my wedding...and Brisbane Wedding Weekly was born. I have put a lot of time into nurturing BWW, watching it grow and helping it learn to stand on its own two feet. And now that it does, I am going to try my hand at doing the same for a baby boy, due in July! So it is with great pleasure that we welcome Madison to the BWW team as acting editor, while I take some time off to become a mother! I will still be around - I can’t completely let go of my ‘first child’ - but will be back on board in 2016. I really do love planning and curating the magazine each season for you and hope you enjoy this edition. Lauren from Velbella shares a 12 month ‘beauty booty camp’ on page eight with us and we have a spectacular variety of real weddings for you featuring rain and sunshine! It’s Cold Outside With a windy, wintry chill in the Brisbane air, we thought we would put something together for those getting married in the chillier months. While it is most bride’s preference to get married in the warmer months, we are lucky that in Brisbane, even if we choose to get married in Winter, we are usually blessed with perfect weather. We are also seeing more bride’s choosing to marry in the colder months because many wedding vendors offer great deals for the ‘off-peak’ season! And while the Winter Brisbane days are bearable, we understand that there is nothing worse than feeling cold, especially at your wedding reception. What we love about the Winter wedding is that finding the perfect piece to go over your dress can add a whole new element to your bridal style. Think leather jacket, cute cropped cardigan, a dark, light or bright coloured blazer, cape or even faux fur or feathers.

12 month bridal When should I get a facial? What about my spray tan? Lauren Veiling from Velbella shares her ‘what to when’ of bridal beauty leading up to you wedding day!

12 Months

• Start your home Beauty Skin Care Regime – choose a skin care range to use daily at home and stick to it everyday. Don’t go to sleep with makeup on, wear SPF everyday and this will ensure you have a beautiful natural glow for your wedding day. • Start eating healthy – This doesn’t have to be extreme. Focus on eating more vegetables and fruit and cut down on sugary foods, as this will help brighten your complexion. • Start working out – A gentle walk daily and some Yoga or Pilates will help to add a healthy glow to your face as well as giving you great overall body tone. • Collate photos of hair and makeup styles you love, start pinning on pinterest, head to expos and check out magazines for fabulous ideas. • Choose your hair and makeup artist if you haven’t already done so. Good stylists get booked 1-2 years in advance so ensure you don’t miss out.

10 Months

8 Months

• Continue your beauty regime, you may want to start to step up the frequency of visits to the beauty therapist for your facial routine. • Have a clear idea of what you want for hair and makeup for you and your bridal party. Take into account the overall theme as well as your dresses.

4 Months

• Have your hair and makeup trial to ensure the style and look you have chosen suits you perfectly and your stylist knows exactly what you want for your special day. At the trial decide on whether or not you are using lash extensions, strip lashes or individual lashes. We recommend using individual lashes for your wedding day. • Up your skin care regime and frequency going to your beauty therapist. • You may wish to step up your exercise and healthy eating if you’re trying to lose a few extra kilos before the big day.

• Start planning your Beauty Regime with your beauty therapist – pay attention to shaping your eyebrows. This is so important if you need to grow out sections it will take time. • Work with your hairdresser on the cut and colour you want for your wedding day. This is so important as you need a plan for the look you want to achieve. Drastic changes in style and colour can take time to transition so keep this in mind. • If you’re considering botox or laser hair removal it’s best to start these earlier so you can give your face and body time to adjust to these treatments.

2 Months

• Trial a spray tan to check that your therapist matches your skin tone to the shade you want as well as giving you an even tan. • If you are thinking about whitening your teeth then this would be a good time to do it. Your teeth can get extra sensitive from treatments so you don’t want this to happen too close to your day. • Finalise beauty accessories – hairpieces, lipsticks, nail polish etc. A good makeup artist should offer the option of a bridal touch up kit with lipstick, lipgloss and powder.

l Beauty Camp 1 Week

1 Month

• Have your final facial with your beauty therapist, we don’t recommend you have another one too close to your wedding day. This will avoid any breakouts. Keep up your home treatment through to the wedding day.

3 Days

• Have your brows shaped for the last time.

2 Days

• At this stage we usually suggest that you don’t try any new beauty products as you don’t want to have a reaction too close to your wedding day.

• Get your spray tan – make sure you exfoliate before you go. • Have your pedicure and manicure. • If you are using lash extensions have these done.

Night Before 2 Weeks

• See your hairdresser for your final cut and colour – If you are blonde or have fast regrowth you may want to leave this to closer to the day. • If you are having permanent hair extensions have these put in now – we recommend the weft extensions. • Avoid crash dieting as this will deplete your energy stores. Instead continue your healthy eating and moderate exercise.

• Wash your hair and make sure it’s dry for the morning – we suggest doing this the night before the wedding. Be careful not to overly condition your hair as this can make your hair limp and it won’t hold a style as easily. • Apply a moisturiser over your whole body to ensure your tan stays fresh and lasts nicely.

5 Days

• Book in for any waxing that you need before the day. • Drink lots of water – adding a little lemon will help to create a beautiful complexion.

• Eat a healthy meal that is nice and light. • Drink lots of water. • Get a good sleep.

With the winter months upon us earlier than usual this year, wedding season has encountered a brisk change of atmosphere. In the chillier months, you should be abandoning the well-ventilated suits and donning something a little more conservative, as well as introducing layers to your look. But thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s where things can start to go wrong. Here are some simple layering options to help you look fresh and inspired for the coming chilly months and your special day.

1. The Foundations of your look

A nice, simple shirt which compliments a lot of colours should be your jumping-off point. White or ivory for a wedding is always a good places to start. These colours keep it simple to match as well as allowing your outfit to show off your other colours and always keep photogenic. Make sure the fabric is something light that breathes easy, like double folded cottons to avoid turning yourself into a one-man sauna.

2. The Lounge Suit

For those weddings during the winter months (even in more casual settings) the lounge suit is the minimum standard, anything less will leave your grooms party more worried about the cold then whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s going on in front of them. The lounge suit consists of a trouser and jacket (usually plain, check or stripe) without a contrasting lapel (black/coloured jacket collar). It is ideal to set apart the groom from his groomsmen in some way as after all it is his special day as well. A matching or complementary coloured vest to the classic lounge suit allows this to happen seamlessly as well as maintaining the differentiation when the jacket inevitably come off throughout the day/night. Tip: Make sure the shirt cuff sits lower than the jacket sleeve to provide that subtle pop to the wrist line.

3. The Tuxedo/Dinner Suit

The Tuxedo aka the Dinner Suit provides and elegant and formal look to your wedding. It is empowered by the term black tie and is perfect for those after a traditional wedding outfit. Tuxedos are usually black but in recent times we have seen touches of grey and blue. It usually consist of a jacket and trouser that either or both have satin trimming on the collar, buttons, pockets or outer leg of the pants. Think James Bond. Tuxedos are great option for the winter months as they are designed to be more comfort fitting and are meant to be kept on at all times (sitting and standing). Differentiating the groom can be achieved by putting him in a bowtie and his groomsmen in ties or alternatively by changing the detailing of his suit, flower or shirt. Tip: Tuxedos should generally be one button low cut jackets to achieve an elongated classy look.

4. The Waistcoat/Vest

Waistcoats are in your asset pile for the winter month weddings. They can formalise more casual colouring in your suiting as well as allowing the guys to keep warm and flexible when the jackets come off. If looking to contrast your suit then this layer should have a more prominent texture or be bolder in colour to the other layers. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s usually a thicker fabric, like a wool or a cotton/polyester blend. Be careful to make sure you complement the other layers. Blacks, greys, blues and coarse, brushed finished wools are great to separate this layer from the one above and the one below. Tip: Waistcoats should sit firmly on the body, donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget to utilise the buckle on the back.

THE PROPOSAL

WEDDING PLANNING

Blake and I have been together since Grade 10. We had always said that if we were still together after five years then he might consider asking me to his wife. It was on our fifth anniversary Blake had booked a table at the Mount Coo-tha summit restaurant and ordered the Romantic Couples Package. Our starter and entrĂŠe were lovely and just before our mains came out he reached into his pocket pulled out a ring and whispered in my ear will you marry me. I couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t believe it, I was in a state of bliss, obviously I said yes, but for the life of me those couple of minutes passed so fast I can barley remember saying yes. To this day I can gladly say it is one of the happiest moments of my life.

From the very beginning of planning, I have loved the country feel, so we have chosen a country rustic theme with a little bit of charm. The main colours of the wedding will be while, blush pink and navy blue. The wedding is at the Cedar Creek Estate Vineyard and Winery. We were adamant about having our wedding in winter, so we will have those beautiful orange/red/ yellow leaves on the many maple trees that surround the little sandstone chapel.

HONEYMOON IDEAS We both love New Zealand and have been there on many occasions, so we thought we would go to a place in New Zealand that we hadnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t explored yet. The unexplored territory happened to be in Hanmer Springs. Hanmer Springs have beautiful hot springs and as we will be visiting in winter, it should make for an unforgettable honeymoon. 36

I was blindfolded but could tell by his voice that he was nervous, he had lights all set up and a speech written down - which I heard nothing of because I was crying - so after I said yes and settled down I asked to read the speech again.

THE BIG DAY It was fabulous. The clouds and rain rolled in just as we were about to have our outdoor ceremony, but by moving it inside it made it really intimate, with our family and friends standing right next to us. We had so much fun with everyone and it couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have turned out better Chloe. It rained but the day still worked out perfectly. It was so enjoyable sharing the love and laughter with our friends and family. In hindsight we wouldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t change anything - Seb.

Special Moment I loved how everyone kept saying to me what a great time they were having. From the food, drink and music, it made me realise all of the stress that we had gone through in the lead up was worth it. The proposal I had no idea! We have been to New York three times before - its my favourite place in the world (and so is Tiffany & Co). So there we were on a rainy New York day, in Central Park, Dave was on one knee and out pops the Tiffany & Co ring! I am so lucky! - Justine. After a bit of sneaky organising in Australia we headed off on holidays to our favourite city â&#x20AC;&#x201C; New York! I sent Justine to get a massage and took off to 5th Avenue to pick up the engagement ring. The following day we walked through Central Park, the rain started to come down and I got down on one knee and proposed. - Dave.

The big day I thought I would be so nervous I really donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t like being the centre of attention but I wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t nervous at all, just really excited. Marriage Is Daveâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s parents have been together for 37 years and mine for 29, so we have such beautiful loving families who we look up to and adore. The proposal We went for a picnic at Cedar Creek. Mitch got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. He cried. I laughed. And that was that - Lucy. Wedding planning The most excited, stressful, fun, frustrating time of our lives. I made Mitch do the calling around and paying of bills while I planned all the fun things like styling, invites, outfits, and venues - Lucy. I saw a different side of Lucy.
