I am new to Winter Park having moved here from the Bay area in California. I was shopping on Park yesterday when a nice young woman gave me a copy of your magazine. I have read several of the articles and although I am a senior, I got some good information. Good luck and much success with this new magazine which has a very good layout and interesting content. Gloria Hill Winter Park Brite magazine has brought us some great business — even in just the first issue! I’m glad we did the two-page ad with the recipe — people come in and ask for our pizza recipe that has been advertised. New Smyrna Beach businesses should utilize advertising in this magazine as we are sure it will bring them new business as well. Chad Schilsky Co-Owner of That’s Amore New Smyrna Beach, FL

Brite flies off the entry table at the JCC Early Childhood Learning Center every time it comes in! Parents and teachers clamor for it. It is such a great read as well as an excellent resource for local businesses and services. I especially love that the articles are so real. BRITE is a magazine with a conscious! It still offers up glamour and great finds, but it’s the substance that defines BRITE. One of the features I like the most about BRITE, is that while it certainly addresses issues that concerns moms, it is not just another mom or parent magazine. I like the fact that BRITE recognizes we are also women and working professionals. Kathy Edwards Parent and Substitute Teacher at the JCC/ECLC Maitland, FL

MOST OF US ARE FAMILIAR with

the Parable of the Sower. In short, it goes like this: a sower dropped seed on the path, on rocky ground, and among thorns, and the seed was lost; but when seed fell on good earth, it grew, yielding thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold. We all get the meaning of this parable. However, for people like moî, nowhere in this parable does it say it takes patience to let the good earth grow this darn seed. Growing your roots is essential before reaping any kind of harvest, much less a good one. And with flowers in full bloom, we forget to appreciate all the time and care it took before we could enjoy the vibrant colors and sweet smells. I had to remind myself this past winter to be cognizant of my root system — where I’m planting myself, how I’m maintaining it, etc. My goal in life and business is simple — to enjoy the many spectacular blossoms stemming from my deep, strong root system. Depending upon my patience, the seeds I choose and the soil I plant them in determines the harvest I will eventually savor. And because I have to continually remind myself that “these things don’t happen over night,” I decided to create a visual for growing my roots. I needed to see the process for my benefit as a visual reminder that the roots must take place before the blossom appears. So armed with the knowledge of the fantastic children’s science show, Mr. Wizard’s World, I began to hydroponically grow my seed (warning: entering geek zone!). Hydroponics (from the Greek hydro, water, and ponos, energy) is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. I filled a clear glass with water, stuck three toothpicks in the seed, placed it on top of the glass so the seed was half submerged in water then waited… and waited… and waited. Then early one cold morning, I filled my coffee

cup, checked my seed again and to my surprise, it had cracked and a little root was forming from the bottom. I grinned to myself. It was working! Three weeks of seeing nothing then all the sudden a root! A little baby root was popping out of my silly-visual-be-patient-Sarascience-analogy-to-life project! And I continued to care for this new root, changing the water, putting it in sunlight, etc. And guess what? More roots! Tons! Filling the entire glass! The glass got so full that I had to purchase nutrient rich soil and transfer my root-sprouting seed to its very own pot. And now, six months later, I have a beautiful, vibrant plant that is on its way to producing lots of yummy fruit (the final product will be guacamole gracing my dinner room table, fyi). In this issue, I want to share the importance of growing your roots — to be knowledgeable in each area of BRITE securing a good root system in order to enjoy your own harvest. Our experts and resources in this issue have provided you with valuable information to guide you in growing your roots. And if it helps, after reading this issue, go grab yourself a clear glass filled with water, some toothpicks, an avocado seed and get growing.

Words of Wisdom:

WHAT MY MOM TAUGHT ME ABOUT BEAUTIFUL In honor of Mother’s Day 2011, we want to honor all of our beautiful mothers who have helped made us who we are today. We’ve also asked a few of our professional and community leaders to share how their mothers have been role models for their successes.

Estee Martin RADIO HOST

WORDS OF WISDOM: “Always do

what you’re afraid to do” —Ralph Waldo Emerson “This has taken me throughout my entire life. I mean, let’s face it, “fortune favors the bold” and only the bold do something out of the ordinary. Furthermore, going beyond the ordinary helps in achieving greatness. That’s how I live my life daily. If there’s a challenge, I’m in head first! That’s the only way to succeed, right? At least my mom and I think so.” WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME ABOUT ‘BEAUTIFUL’: “My mother is such a generous and loving individual regardless of who you are: family, friend or stranger. Since I could remember, she has always lent a helping hand and growing up around such charisma has allowed me to develop the same habits. My mother has always said, “Stay who you are. Your humility and compassion are what make you beautiful.” Sure, we worry about our outward appearance and that’s okay, we want to feel sexy and confident. But at the end of the day, it’s who we made feel beautiful with our generous acts of kindness that really count. “Lipstick and blush definitely help, too.” BIO: Estee Martin, with her unique style and unmistakable sultry voice has quickly become one of Central Florida’s most popular and dynamic radio personalities. Born to Cuban immigrants, this New Jersey native has been a welcome presence on the central Florida airwaves for over five years now. A UCF graduate, Ms. Martin’s roots in the local community run deep. A Miss Orlando 2007 Pageant winner and a Miss Florida US Continental first runner up, this raven-haired beauty is active in her local community. When not co-hosting the top rated Obie & Lil’ Shawn Morning Show and her midday show on WPYO Power 95.3, Ms. Martin devotes her time to a number of organizations and causes that she holds dear to her heart, including the Coalition for the Homeless, the Susan G. Koman Foundation, and the Children’s Home Society. Ms. Martin also volunteers her time at local area schools and with underprivileged children.

With her charisma, magnetic personality, talent and inexhaustible energy, Ms. Martin is quickly making a name for herself as a rising young star and someone to watch closely.

Dr. Tina Calderone

SEMINOLE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD WORDS OF WISDOM: “Make good choices.” WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME ABOUT ‘BEAUTIFUL’: “My mom,

Tina, was never materialistic; her emphasis was about inner beauty and finding your inner passion. I came to respect my mom on the campaign trail. Her reputation and how she got to where she is, is amazing. She taught me to be independent. She always raised me to stand on my own — make my own money, have my own career. I am so honored to have anyone compare me to my mom. If I can accomplish half of what she does, then I’m happy ... and she did give me great legs!” BIO: Alexis Calderone, daughter, is an interpersonal/organizational communications major at UCF. She is currently in her junior year and is a special events intern with the Florida Hospital Foundation. Dr. Tina Calderone, Ed. D., mother, was elected to the School Board on November 2, 2010. She and her husband have been residents of Seminole County since 1989 and both of their children have attended SCPS. She is most proud of her tenure as the Executive Director of The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools where she was able to work with a dedicated group of business leaders and community volunteers to raise over $4 million for our students and teachers. She has been recognized as “Women Who Mean Business” award from Orlando Business Journal, “Women of Magic” from The Orlando Sentinel and Magic 107.7, “Salute to Professional Women in Education” and “Chamber Member of the Year” from The Greater Seminole County Chamber of Commerce and “Woman of DistinctionEducation” from Girls Scouts of Citrus Council.

Lois Bearden

EURO DAY SPA OWNER WORDS

OF

WISDOM:

“Keep learning, keep growing, keep endeavoring to know yourself.” WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME ABOUT ‘BEAUTIFUL’: “If I were to

describe my mom in one phrase, it would be she was a ‘serious person.’ She took care of herself but I don’t think she considered herself a beautiful or pretty woman. Whatever her endeavor she took it seriously and followed through. This is especially true in business. There are always difficult times and decisions to make. It would be easy to just throw in the towel and call it quits. I think she would equate the word ‘beauty’ with perseverance.” BIO: Lois Bearden, owner of Euro Day Spa &Salon in Winter Park, FL, has owned and operated her business for 25 years. Her mother, Anita Chapman, taught Lois her incredible work ethic and business sense. Anita’s adult life was mainly during the Great Depression but she managed to use her incredible cooking skills to her advantage. She purchased a diner, opened a second location then sold the res-

taurants. She then went on to buy a third restaurant as well as the building and the property. Due to her success she sold the restaurant in five years and retired to Florida. She was a cancer survivor in 1980, spent a few more years with her family then passed away from ALS. Lois upholds her mother’s lessons in her family business. Her mantra, “Be the very best at what you do.”

Travis Hollifield ATTORNEY

WORDS OF WISDOM: “You should

only say and do things that you would be happy being attributed to you on the front page of tomorrow’s newspaper.” WHAT MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME ABOUT ‘BEAUTIFUL’: “Real beauty is

spiritual and not physical. True beauty is a blend of three important attributes: (1) selflessness, (2) optimism, and (3) enthusiasm. You can attain spiritual beauty through practice and encourage others to do the same by your example.” BIO: Travis R. Plan, Plant, Grow, Harvest, Cultivate, Distribute —

SIX STEPS TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM B Y K AT I E M I L L E R W I T T E R

o you ever worry about ending up old and poor, without a bountiful HARVEST to distribute? Before jumping into the steps to financial freedom, we must know our ‘true purpose’ for money: We’ve all heard the quote, “The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.” Yes, the LOVE of money … but not money in itself. Money represents freedom, power, love and joy. Money gives you options and separates you from the threat of not being able to meet your basic survival needs and those of your family. No, money is not everything, but it is essential… like air. Fundamentally, there are five things we can do with our money: 1. Give 2. Pay taxes 3. Pay debt 4. Save & invest 5. Consume (Lifestyle) The biggest problem people have is mis-prioritizing these five things. According to a recently released Wells Fargo research report, the worst fears of pre-retirement Americans is running out of money before we run out of years to live. Randomly scattering seeds and then hoping to produce the outcome you intended offers no opportunity for success. The following financial planning process practiced throughout your life produces the best results for caring for your concerns.

Plan

Planning is the most difficult step, as it begins with assessing the

cumulative effects of your past financial decisions. You must specify what is most important, define personal and financial goals for future satisfaction, AND design an action plan that is a coordination of practices and tactics to care for your concerns and move you towards financial peace of mind.

Plant

The plan is only successful if you ‘plant’ the proper seeds. With the help of a professional, you must diversify your seeds across the appropriate asset classes by exploiting optimal risk/return relations between markets (right nutrients) in a cost efficient manner. You reap what you sow.

Grow

Healthy crops are attainable by avoiding the common investor mistakes of stock picking, market timing, performance chasing, and paying high fees due to active management, transaction costs, and turnover that typically dramatically reduce investor returns. Successful investing requires diligently adhering to certain principles, remaining committed to your plan and managing your emotions.

Cultivate

Protecting and promoting the growth of capital by embodying standard practices aligned with fundamental investing principles such as rebalancing (buy low, sell high) and remaining disciplined with the proper investment philosophies and strategies (passive investing). Engaging the services of a trusted financial advisor keeps you educated and on track: this can go a long way towards increasing

Sow a thought, you reap an act. Sow an act, you reap a habit. Sow a habit, you reap a character. Sow a character, you reap a consequence. Expect to harvest the fruit of your behavior, just as farmers expect to harvest the crops that they plant. You reap what you sow. Sow wisely. your financial confidence, sense of optimism for the future, and even household harmony.

Harvest

You must have a sufficient harvest to survive,

be free and live a good life during 40 years of adulthood and 30 years of retirement (the purpose of the previous four steps.) Once the harvest is in place, identify and answer these fundamental harvest questions: • Will I have enough? • Which capital do I harvest first? • When do I harvest? • How do I harvest in the most tax efficient manner?

Distribute

Most investors spend considerable time and energy accumulating retirement assets during their working years, but often little thought and planning goes into preserving, sustaining, maintaining and managing their wealth wisely. The distribution process typically entails, but is not limited to: (1) Producing a consistent stream of income that does not fluctuate with the market and increases with inflation (2) Buying goods and services necessary for survival (shelter, healthcare, food, transportation) and freedom (visit loved ones, travel, giving, best healthcare) (3) Caring for others (spirituality, world, family, etc.), and (4) Leaving a legacy for generations to come in a tax efficient manner with proper direction and control.

Before you book and save on any dream vacation, you deserve to know the truth about where you are going. Don’t let hotel marketers trick you with misrepresented photos. Before you book your space, check out oyster.com. Many hotels use tricks, such as staging and cropping and some even go so far to Photoshop their images. Any method employed that makes the property look or feel differently than it does in reality is misleading. Oyster.com exposes these hotels while educating the consumer. Travelers deserve to know what they can really expect when they arrive. Oyster’s hotel investigators visit hotels in person and take hundreds of photographs and write in-depth reviews of every property they cover: currently 1000 hotels in 14 popular tourist destinations online. Once you decide where you want to go, find out how much it will cost. Figure in all the costs including eating, entertainment, tickets or gas prices. Factoring in ALL expenses helps plan. Where can you save? Can you use miles? Can you stay half the time with friends or family? Can business pay for some of it? Once you know your total cost, divide the cost by 13 since you have 13 weeks to come up with the money. Next, look at your expenses to see what you can cut out each week. Things like coffee, clothes, lunches out and make-up are areas for savings. Our figure to save was $80 a week. If you save $80 for 13 weeks, that’s $1,040. If $80 is too big of an amount, expand the length of time you need to save the money. The point is to know what your goal is so you can aim for it.

LEGAL ADVICE

The following Q&A will help you better understand your rights as a working woman. B Y T R AV I S R . H O L L I F I E L D

ACCORDING TO A DECEMBER 2010 REPORT jointly prepared by

the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics which reviewed data through the end of 2009, 59.2% of women in the United States actively participate in the domestic labor force by working full or part time. Labor force participation was even higher -- 71.6% -- for mothers with at least one child under the age of 18. Fortunately, the millions of women in their child-bearing years with children or with the capacity to have children enjoy certain legal protections in the workplace. These laws can be generally categorized as providing protection against harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, providing equal pay for equal work, and providing unpaid leave from work under certain circumstances in order for women to care for themselves or other close family members. Some of these laws either exclusively or disproportionately impact working women such as the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. However, as seen in the reader question & answer section below, not all working women are considered “covered” under these laws because their employers do not employ enough employees for the statutory coverage to extend to a specific workplace. I feel like I have been sexually harassed at work by my boss and when I went to complain to the owner he told me that the law doesn’t cover me because the company has only 25 employees. Is this true?

Let’s Get to the “Root” of the Problem ...

GET IT IN WRITING! BY DEDRA CURTIS

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU, or someone you know, said that

they were going to take care of something for you, but then never followed through? Have you had a family member or friend ask to borrow money and said they would pay you back and then never did? How did that make you feel? It happens every day and probably more than we can admit simply because we did not have the agreement in writing. Have you ever heard, “We have a failure to communicate!” Usually this is because one party hears something that the other party did not. Get it in writing! This is something that we all know we should do but many times do not follow through on the getting it in writing. Why is this? Is it the fear of losing the deal? Maybe, but especially nowadays you need to protect yourself and the deal. And even if you did have an agreement, you still need to be aware of the essential elements required to make an enforceable contract. Whether it is a sale and purchase of property, an estate plan or a simple family arrangement, get it in writing!

An Agreement versus a Contract

A contract is an agreement between parties that is legally enforceable. A simple “agreement” is an arrangement between the parties that may or may not contain the necessary elements to be enforceable before a court of law. Basically, a contract is enforceable by law while an agreement may not be enforceable by law. A valid contract must contain these essential elements: • Offer: Willingness, Terms, Offered • Acceptance: Willingness, Accept • Consideration: Value, Exchanged • Formalities: Signed Writing, Witnessed, Security Agreement, Filing Document DON’T GET INTO TROUBLE!

When many people get into trouble on a contract or agreement, they think that if they ignore the problem it will be minimized or

go away. Unfortunately that is not the case. If you are in trouble, it is important that you try to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. If not, you may find yourself not only paying back the original debt, but penalty amounts, accruing interest, court costs including filing and service fees, and attorney’s fees. In my personal experience I have seen debts under $150 become debts in excess of $1,000. BEFORE SIGNING:

• I Cannot Be Bound By Provisions I Am Not Aware Of. • This is false. Everyone is presumed to have read and understood each of the provisions of any contract they sign. As a result, it is important that you carefully read the contract before you sign it. This will tend to make the salesman very nervous, but is a good practice. If he is nervous, there is generally a reason that will hurt you later if you are not aware of it. • I Can Rely Upon The Salesman’s Statements. • Most sales contracts contain wording to the effect that the company is not bound by anything the salesman may have said, and that the written document you signed is the full and total agreement. This is another reason you should carefully review the contract. If the contract does not include the provisions the salesman told you about, they should be handwritten into the document and signed by both you and the salesman. DID YOU KNOW? Online contracts, which are easily made, are usually valid on a smaller scale for a period of one to three months, while on a larger scale can last about five years. As with all things legal, especially in regards to the ever-evolving internet, general rules like length of validity have many exceptions. All cases are evaluated on their own merits, and those merits are defined by the facts presented in each instance. It is up to the owner of the site to do what it can to guarantee enforceability of its contracts. Though 90% of people sign online contracts before reading the content, E-signature laws have made the electronic contract and signature as legally valid as a paper contract. It has been estimated that roughly one hundred and ten electronic contracts are signed every second.

rom laptops to smart phones, we use devices to communicate with each other at recordbreaking speeds. We use face time. We type e-mails. We text. We tweet. We abbreviate [OMG! LOL!]. We ask rapid-fire questions and expect rapid-fire answers. While such swift exchanges have benefits, they also have their faults. You may think that your hurried email or rushed text gets the job done just fine and it probably does, at a minimum but the energy and action you put into a communication, however small, is carried with it. If you’re rushing, that becomes evident in your exchanges and communicates to the receiving party that you just don’t really have time for them. Additionally, hurried communication opens the door to confusion and miscommunication. And who doesn’t want to be heard, accurately, the first time? WORRIED ABOUT YOUR HANDWRITING? Improving it is simple.

Take a moment and in your normal, everyday style, write out the following: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. If it looks like you just wrote yourself an illegible prescription, then start by simply slowing down. Maybe practice first on the Play More scribble pad (opposite page, bottom)— the back of each page is printed like a sports ball. As your handwriting increasingly improves, crumple your

past notes in a ball and score a goal, serve an ace, or shoot a hole-inone to help break up the monotony while practicing. www.spoonsisters.com Then, assess and improve upon the following areas: LINE QUALITY: You don’t want to leave a permanent stencil on the table from pressing down so hard but you don’t want too faint a line either. Notice your grip and make sure you’re holding the pen between your middle finger and thumb, allowing the index finger to rest on top. ALIGNMENT: Does your sentence look like it’s trailing off the page at a diagonal? Use a ruler, an index card, or a magazine edge to guide your sentence on unlined paper. SLANT: If your words were people, how would their posture be? Make sure they’re standing up straight! LETTER FORMATION: Have you completed the formation of your letters? If you left an “o” or two open, slow down and take care to finish forming each letter. SPACING: Are your letters and words taking the rush-hour subway or are they traveling in a giant Crown Vic to work? Make sure your letters aren’t too scrunched up or too far apart. A good rule of thumb is to leave enough space for a lowercase o split vertically in half between each letter. Or, you can invest in a book for less than $10. Try Improve Your Handwriting: Teach Yourself by Rosemary Sassoon (get it on your Kindle!) Happy (hand)writing!

Should Handwriting Lessons Be Taken out of the School Curriculums? Upon learning that handwriting is slowly being weaned out of school curriculums we were curious to hear what our fans thought about the issue. On January 15, National Handwriting day, we polled our Facebook fans to see if their kids are still learning cursive in school and to learn how important they find this skill. A massive 91% of our fans expressed that they feel that writing in cursive is an important skill and that it should be taught to kids in school. The majority of those polled believe that without cursive children will never learn to sign their names and will struggle reading other people’s written work. —Tiny Prints Here are a few favorite comments:

“Good penmanship in general is important to learn... It’s a failing and disappearing subject in this world of technology. My husband writes like a 3rd grader. I’m on a mission to make my kids better than that! Lol” “Yes. As a Montessori kid who learned cursive from the beginning, I find it to be a beautiful & sophisticated skill for writing personal notes. Makes even the grocery list look like a piece of art.” “Yes, it is important! I teach at the 6th grade level and write many things in cursive. Sadly, many of the teachers at the lower levels in our district are not teaching it, because it is not tested on the state standardized test. Those that have not been taught cursive cannot read what I have written in cursive. Many of them WANT to know how to write in cursive and are trying to teach themselves! So at the 6th grade level, we have mini lessons on how to write in cursive (when we can fit it in). At this point, they should already be able to write the basic cursive and be experimenting and developing their own style of writing with signature...... Sad. THOUGHTFUL

Pearls of Wisdom

LIFE IS WHAT IS COMING, NOT WHAT WAS BY LANETTE JARVIS

istory is a part of us all whether it is biblical, political, ancestral or industrial. Roots are roots no matter what their variety. We cultivate each root and use them as examples to accomplish different stages in our lives. Similar to the assortment of plants in our world, the instructions for taking care and growing each one is different; some need sunlight, some need no light, some need a lot of water and some need very little water. Taking care of our family roots is easy, well, sometimes. Our parents and grandparents teach us our moral code by relating stories back to family members as well as famous people from history. As we watch our relatives cultivate our family roots we learn to do the same thing for our children and grandchildren. Studying politicians and the roots they plant help our community leaders make better decisions on polices and laws that govern our society. Theologians teach our religious leaders by studying the bible and learning from feast, famine and pestilence, but the most difficult lessons to learn from reviewing history are those that we try to correlate in business. Sure, it is good to see what has happened in the past but honestly the only way to be successful in your business is to pay close attention to what is going on right now. Trends predicted by experts in their field, current and future economics, culture, and community happenings if closely examined, will guide you to your triumphs in business today. The following tips are not going to be new to you but they are a simple reminder for today’s growth. They are things we have learned from teachers and business experts. If heeded, these simple acts will

help you both professionally as well as personally. • Reading the newspaper or at least skimming it every day will put you in touch with your community while keeping you informed on new technology, trends and laws that govern your industry. • Setting Google alerts on items that matter to your business is a great way to enhance your business savvy. Google alerts are easy to set up so that news related to your topic of choice from mainstream media to bloggers arrives in your email as it hits the Internet. If you do not know how to set up a Google alert; simply Google “How to set up a Google alert” and it will walk you through it. For example, if you would like to read about “networking events in Orlando”, you can set the alert to notify you when the words Networking + Events+ Orlando appear on the Internet. • When you receive a business card while networking, do something with it! Send an email, write a note and mail it, call the person, add it to your data base, follow-up with any promises, or just toss it if you’re not interested. If you pay money to attend an event, get dressed, drive across town, meet and greet total strangers, at least spend a few minutes the next day sorting out your treasures and try to build those relationships you were going for in the first place. If you are currently accomplishing these tasks, I am sure you have seen great success. If not, don’t dwell on the past too long; guilt bogs you down. Just begin today by doing what you can. Whether it is in business or pleasure, living life for the greatest reward is concentrating on what is coming…not concentrating on what once was.

FOR LOVE OR MONEY? Which marrying type are you?

So, without judgments or condemnation, where do your conditions lead you? Take a look at the completely bogus and unscientific profiles below to determine where your priorities lay, but be forewarned — I’m an equal opportunity offender.

BY ELIZABETH ALLEN

Motivator

ou meet a great guy. There’s almost immediate chemistry. He makes you laugh, he’s intelligent, he’s sensitive and pretty darn easy on the eyes. He shares your philosophies about life and spirituality. He enjoys the same ethnic foods as you and get this — he even loves to cook. He quickly proves to be kind, sincere and reliable. And as if all that weren’t enough, he’ll even watch chick flicks with you while massaging your shoulders. And he’s broke…as poor as the proverbial church mouse. Has your dreamboat just morphed into a leaky dingy? For as long as I can remember, little girls have fantasized about the kind of man they want to marry when they grow up. Even in this neon-high tech-instant gratification-breakneck point in time, some of us still harbor the desire to be taken care of and provided for. We yearn for the knight in shining armor like little girls crave pink tights and tutus. The thing is — we expect that armor to be 14kt gold, not electroplated. My mother and her mother before her passed along some powerful DNA, the kind that conditioned me to think the only worthy candidates had to be professionals, preferably doctors. After all, isn’t that every Jewish mother’s mantra? (I always wondered why she didn’t suggest I become a doctor as opposed to marrying one.). Yet, some of us rebel and pursue the bad boy — chockfull of imminent danger and risk — carrying that brand of appeal that is just so much fun — but not marrying material. Unless he channels his aggression into mad skills and becomes a lawyer! And then there’s the nice boy. Often he’s not much to look at; generally shy and inexperienced when it comes to women and painfully naïve. But they tend to direct all that nerd-angst during their teens into innovation and intellect thereby potentially becoming the Gates and Trumps of the world. And some bright woman once said,

“There are no ugly millionaires.” Nice work if you can get it. So where does that leave you? Is it superficial to marry for money? Some could argue that it’s just sound financial planning. Still, what are you sacrificing for the monetary security? Are you okay having sex with someone you learned to love in exchange for the pay? Hey, maybe Pretty Woman wasn’t so far-fetched after all. And then there’s love. What if you find Mr. Right as detailed above but presently he’s also Mr. Unemployed, Mr. I-Just-Haven’tFound-What-I-Want-To-Do-With-My-Life. Don’t toss him aside simply because one of the top conditions on your list is unmet. Being penniless is not irreversible and besides, there’s the ever-present male ego to contend with. It’s a rare male who doesn’t want to be a provider, but provisions don’t necessarily have to be in the form of financial security. This could be the greatest relationship of your life and he may indeed be the stuff that dreams are made of… but you might have to make a few compromises. Allowing yourself to overlook the money gap requires honesty, precise observation and serious adaptability. You must be certain he’s telling you the truth and doesn’t view you as a potential sugar-mama. You must discern if his idleness is a constant condition or just a rare anomaly. And you must search your soul to determine if you can be okay being the bread-winner for however long is necessary— including but not limited to being the working parent while he makes a terrific stay-home dad. Women are no longer obligated to bring a dowry to the table in order to wed. Should men necessarily be held to the same account? In the battle for equality, wouldn’t it be a sort of perverse victory for the man to be the subservient partner in the household? Okay, so what if my mystery date (Milton Bradley board game from the ‘60’s) was always the scruffy-faced hobo who looked like Gerard Butler? I always saw the potential.

Elizabeth Allen found her literary voice at age 49 when she penned her first book Who Got Liz Gardner which was published in 2009 and has received worldwide acclaim. The sequel, Discovering Arugula, was just released in January 2011. Elizabeth’s short stories about mothers, women and relationships have been published in literary magazines and anthologies. Although she’s passionate about writing, she keeps her day job as a financial advisor for Ameriprise Financial. SPRING 2011 | BRITEGIRL.COM

You are attracted to the underdog — not necessarily homeless or jobless, but you recognize a diamond in the rough and want to be the driving force that propels him to success. There are two problems however with standing behind your man. 1. You will always be in his shadow and you need to shine too. 2. You think you’re enough to motivate him but truth is he has to do it himself. You may be in for years of potential frustration and disappointment. He may eventually step up to the shared financial plate, but he will never be soul provider in your household and in some instances, it may always be you. But the love could be undeniable and true. You went for love.

Victim

You tend to attract abusers: emotional, psychological and/or physical. You possibly suffered this sort of negative attention as a child or witnessed your mother model the way. I know you don’t set out to find a sonofab*tch, but somehow you believe that’s the kind of man you think you deserve and your aura brings them to you like bees to the hive. They are apt to be fairly good providers which is part of their power in keeping you possessed. You love them the same way you loved an abusive parent because it’s familiar; it’s what you know. You probably won’t leave them for a while because you’re afraid you can’t make it alone, or they guilt you into believing they love you more than life itself and they’ll try (again) to change. This one really isn’t love or money; more like dysfunctional attention.

Whore with an agenda (otherwise known as gold digger)

You went for the dough, plain and simple, and you know it.

Bogie and Bacall

You both bring equal attributes to the relationship: money, aspirations, respect, attraction, chemistry and moxie. You fit perfectly together in spite of your necessary differences. This is the one coupling other people notice and think “I wish I had that.” You both are controllers so you may combust from time to time, but ultimately you

resolve in a loving and balanced fashion. Definitely love.

Codepender or Mother

Sure. Lots of guys marry their mother. You attract the needy, mamma’s boy who must be taken care of. Similar to the motivator but more of a mother than a manager, your preoccupation with his needs supersede your own. He may or may not have money but your need to nurture doesn’t carry a price tag. He will definitely love you and how you care for him, but your love for him is all about the perceived helplessness and attention.

Princess

Ah! Take a deep breath of thin air high atop the pedestal you’re on. You attract a servant of sorts who is in awe of you. It’s nice to be worshipped but even that can get old. You enjoy being waited on, but eventually it’s going to feel like you’re just being serviced without the passion. Rather than playing firecracker to his dry wick, it’s so much better when the mutual spark bursts from spontaneous combustion. That may or may not happen. You can learn to love each other in this arrangement, but you chose a groupie, not a partner. You kind of went for love, but not really.

Dreamer

You go into this with eyes wide open. Okay, maybe half-mast. You know he has some money and is capable of making a living, but this guy ain’t Daddy Warbucks. He has all the attributes you seek but one – no specific goal about his future. It’s almost like he doesn’t want to grow up which is fine if you live in Neverland. You believe to your core he’ll outgrow the Peter Pan syndrome but there are no guarantees. Like the motivator, this too could be your greatest love, but flexibility will have to be the order of the day. He may never grow up. So what’s the logical conclusion I can bring this article to? Before you select your mate, get real clear. Clear on who you are and clear on who he is. Neither of you will (or should) change for the other. The most you can hope for beyond your compatible points is tolerable habits. Just remember the lyrics from Cherish: You don’t know how many times I’ve wished that I could mold you into someone who could / cherish me as much as I cherish you. People can’t be molded. Mold is only good for clay, brie cheese and penicillin. BRITEGIRL.COM | SPRING 2011

WILL THE PAIN OF INFERTILITY EVER SUBSIDE? BY DEBBIE SANTORA AND LINDA BARNBY

’ve seen the suffering. I’ve hugged them as they wiped their tears. Time and time again they try, but a baby never arrives. When does the pain of infertility and broken dreams go away? Hopeful parents, trying to conceive, may spend years working with infertility doctors, acupuncturists, massage therapists and chiropractors. You name it and they’ve tried it. And still the pain remains. And empty arms. Hopeful parents suffer unrelenting sadness and emptiness. It’s easy for a couple longing for a child to think they will never have children and that the suffering will never go away. They often believe that, even when they do have children, they will never forget the pain and suffering they went through to become parents. In childbirth, a woman suffers. She thinks she will never forget that pain. But the moment her child is in her arms, she forgets the pain she endured to arrive at that deliriously joyful and indelible moment. And so it is with adoption. All the treatments, all the waiting, all the pain and suffering. It all vanishes the instant your child is in your arms. And you and your life will be forever transformed. Brittany and John spent years, and most of their money, on infertility treatments. When they finally came to the end of their infertility path, they had almost lost all hope. Thankfully, they embraced adoption as the path to parenthood for them. Numerous adoption situations were presented to them but none of them ever worked out. The emotional pain for Brittany and John was almost unendurable. They began to doubt that they were “meant” to be parents. They wondered if they would be “forever childless”. Despair haunted them daily. But still they pressed on with only a glimmer of hope

in their hearts. Seemingly out of the blue, they received “The Call.” The call to become parents…at last. A young woman with an unplanned pregnancy had given birth and was working with an adoption attorney in Central Florida. John and Brittany went to the hospital to meet their little man. Tears of joy danced in their eyes even as disbelief toyed with their reality. As soon as their baby boy was placed in their arms, all the pain they had lived with for so long vanished in the blink of an eye. No more tears, no more pain. Overwhelming joy and elation over the arrival of their son washed over them. More hearts than John’s and Brittany’s were healed on that emotional adoption day. A scared and anxious birth mother wondered if anyone existed who could love her son as much as she did. And would anyone she could trust come forward to be his forever parents? John and Brittany washed away her fears and tears when they met at the hospital. Linda Barnby’s small group seminars and “one on two” Do you want to be parents? Stay updated with the latest trends, tips and advice when planning your next event or wedding. Consult our Bridal 411 Expert, Patti Manzo, with Get Me to the Altar {www.GetMeToTheAltar.com}. Patti has the answers to some of the most talked about issues of the bridal season. What is the most recent trend in creating a seating chart for guests?

A seating chart is completely up to the bride and groom and what they feel comfortable with. A lot of couples are trending not to have one because they don’t want to offend anyone about where they are sitting or who they might be sitting with. One big worry is sitting a guest in a group of people they don’t know. That guest could end up being miserable the whole time. Remember one thing, this is your wedding and you will not be able to please everybody. You can only try to do the best job in creating a seating chart that will work. It is acceptable if you choose not to have a seating chart. Then everybody can choose where they want to sit and that takes the stress off the bride and groom trying to figure out where to sit guests. But be sure to put a reserved sign on the first couple of tables for family and make sure that those family members know about it previous to the reception. Also make sure your planner has those names of guests for those family tables. The downside to not having a seating chart is the random, empty one-seaters. If a bunch of people sit together, resulting in one seat at one table and maybe the same at another table, a couple or a party of two could get broken up and be forced to sit at different tables. Just remember that this is your wedding day and you ultimately have to choose the way you want it as well as what makes you the happiest and the least stressed. What NOT to do at your wedding!

Please, be considerate! When you are creating a program for your wedding, as I have said earlier, “this is your day so you do things the way you want,” but also remember to be respectful of your guests at the same time. Let me give you an example of a past wedding situation

Four Top Wedding Trends for 2011

1) Strapless, spaghetti straps and off the shoulder dresses A new addition to the necklines for 2011 wedding gowns is the tip of the shoulder design, which is very slim at the top but barely grazes the edge of the bride›s shoulder. It is a very flattering neckline for many women, and a nice alternative to the more typical strapless wedding dress. Also Tulle overlays are big for 2011 designer wedding dresses. There will be a lot of floral appliqués with Swarovski crystals sewn onto the dresses, but not a lot of plain or simple line dresses this year. 2) Eco-Friendly Weddings This year is all about using eco-friendly products, such as, recycled invitations. There is also a lot of focus on using LED lighting in centerpieces, and having Charity Donations. 3) Vintage What’s old is new again with lots of creative vintage-inspired styles for this year. 4) Wedding Colors for 2011 The first one is Metallic. Metallics are big this year in whatever capacity you want to use them, it will give it that extra elegant style and flair you are looking for. Then greens, magentas, purples, hot pinks, mochas, baby blue, and Clementine orange are just some of the other colors that are hot for this year.

and what to be cognizant of when planning your wedding. Last year I was attending a wedding but was not the wedding planner for this event. The wedding was set in a beautiful Winter Wonderland theme. It was gorgeous. The food was great, the bride and groom looked amazing as well as the bridal party. But after first impressions, it quickly turned into a different direction. The reception was more like a musical than a reception. There were performances by impersonators such as Cher, KC and the Sunshine Band, and the finale — Lady Gaga. Now again, I will say if you want something like this at your wedding, that is fine, but the one performance which had Lady Gaga singing, “I want to take a ride on your ____ _____” as her metals cones shot out sparks, should probably be reserved for an after-party and not the actual wedding reception. Many guests ended up being shocked (and slightly terrified) with jaws dropping in awe, not knowing how to react. Needless to say, I don’t think anybody felt like they were at a wedding reception at that moment. What I learned from this epic wedding situation? I ask my brides who might have a far-fetched idea for entertainment to think twice about how their guests might react. Therefore when planning the entertainment portion of a wedding or any event, keep in mind that they might be your favorite things, but they may leave your guests with puzzled or bewildered memories.

THE BUZZ PHRASE “local food” is gaining awareness on our quality of life radar. Because our theme this issue is “growing your roots,” we found it appropriate to go directly to the source, our local farmers’ market, to rediscover our local roots in both food and business. Why does it benefit us to support our local roots? At a farmers’ market, most local produce has been picked from its roots within 24 hours. It comes to us fresh, ripe and full of flavor unlike grocery store produce that may have been picked weeks before. Locally grown foods are harvested for taste, rather than grown for withstanding the abuse of shipping. When you eat locally, you eat what’s in season. It makes more sense to reward your taste buds and health with seasonal produce rather than out-ofseason crops from half way around the world. By eating more vegetables and fewer processed foods, your body will notice a tremendous difference with fresh food at its nutritional peak. Shopping at the farmers’ market is one of the easiest ways to switch to a local food lifestyle. And you’ll be supporting the roots of your community, minimizing profit loss in your own backyard by buying local. Where to begin? Create a market day for yourself. A weekly market day is very common throughout the rest of the world in villages and town squares. The following pages capture Brite magazine’s local market day. Dressed in this season’s latest styles and trends, we enjoyed a leisurely day sampling local foods, conversing with local vendors and supporting our local community.

side of Downtown Orlando and next to Ivanhoe Village. College Park was initially developed in the 1920s. This area is characterized by its brick streets, beautiful lakes, and cozy “small town” feel. It is great for those who enjoy older homes with character. Here you will rarely find two homes that look alike and the houses hold their value well. College Park is becoming an increasingly popular area for home buyers of all ages. Nearby you will find the Dubsdread Golf and Country Club. The main business district of College Park is located at intersection of Princeton St. and Edgewater Dr. You can find great local restaurants and shops here, such as Harmoni Market (above) and the Beauty Spot Spa and Boutique. Further down the street on Edgewater you can find College Park Yoga where yogis of all levels are welcome to practice Power Yoga. There are several parks and lakes nearby and a high-rise condo building called the Wellesley was built in 2007.

ful and prestigious areas in Central Florida, Winter Park was established in the 1880s. Park Avenue offers exclusive shopping and dining while maintaining the charm of red brick roads. You can find a raw food restaurant nearby called Café 118 Degrees. If working out is your passion, try something new like a kickboxing or Muay Thai class at Legacy Fitness where you are taught by professional fighters. Winter Park is also home to the prestigious Rollins College, whose MBA program is nationally ranked by Forbes. Nearby are the Morse and Polasek Museums. There are various city parks and activities to enjoy such as the Sidewalk Art Festival. Gorgeous estates are located in Winter park, many of which are positioned along the chain of lakes which includes Lake Virginia, Lake Osceola, Lake Maitland, Lake Mizell, and Lake Minneola. Homes in Winter Park maintain the charming characteristics of the period in which they were built combined with the modern conveniences of today.

trying its hardest to stay intact emotionally, physically and spiritually. We all worry, we hold on, we pray and without notice- life can still feel like it is falling apart ever so slightly. One day last September, I felt like this. It’s no secret that the home building and design industry is struggling tremendously. Good, hard working and talented professionals were losing their jobs and wondering what to do next. I’m not immune to this and I’m not afraid of publicly talking about it either. So as I sat in my home office that quiet autumn morning and challenged myself to do design differently, I decided to turn my own slogan ‘Grow Where You Are Planted.’ Before me were my business tools (computer, calendar, etc.), contacts and several books that inspired me… but the secret ingredient was my imagination and the willingness to dream amidst adversity. I have a passion for all aspects of design, but I know my specialty is a very ‘niche’ market clientele that has found me, not the other way around. They seek to approach design as a way to experience a new mindset, who can see the connection between home, God and families and the real need for healing so they can get on with doing the ‘good’ they were created for in this world and the community around them. They were in my heart and mind on that September day when I dared to do design differently. At first, I simply said “What if” and went from there. What if I had a big event where my industry would be valued for all it gives in the community? What if we all talked about our fears and yet overcame them by rallying together and sharing our assets? What if I invited inspiring authors and speakers who believe in this concept enough to donate their time and resources? What if I used what I already possessed to create this dream? My time, my money, my network, my boldness. What if I said it all out loud and someone

actually heard me? Isn’t this the moment when it gets real? As Truman once said “The buck stops here.” Taking responsibility and proclaiming it to those you fear might reject you while laying down your own hard earned money is putting it on the line. This is the moment of truth, the spirit of any genuine entrepreneur. I was at this cross road having to balance a life half on savings, half on taking work to survive, but I never stopped dreaming. I was that seed tumbling in the wind with no idea where I was going to land. I had to trust it was meant to be and to grow regardless (or else). You choose to grow where you are planted (or not) and it’s a very important choice that affects you and all those around you. Our homes reflect this choice. This was the beginning of my idea for the ‘Create The Space You Deserve’ EVENT coming to Orlando, April 15 at the Rosen Centre, inspired by the author Jill Butler, where 1000 participants will see my September dream come alive and witness the seeds of my dandelion blossoming before their eyes. An EVENT that is an extension of my desire to help people in the community as well as the struggling homebuilding industry by educating participants on how to right size using a new mindset, declutter our minds and homes to find a new level of peace within, feel inspired by national speakers and authors who ‘get it’ and have ‘done it’, meet exhibitors in our ‘Hall of Dreams’ to transform your spaces and leave equipped with all the tools and skills you need to make your ‘what if’s,’ and the beginning of your roots, come true. The Latin word deservire means ‘to serve zealously’. It’s time our homes got back to being what we deserve, not in the materialistic way of the past, but in the 2011 way of creating our spaces as a launching pad from which to reach out and serve others. Home is where the heart is…the question is WHOM do you have a heart for? Join us for this fun, lively EVENT. More than 70 charities will benefit and I promise by the end of the day, you will know that your home is more than a roof over your head. A co-production of Carolyn Moor, Moor Alive Interiors (Winter Park, FL) and author of ‘Create The Space You Deserve’ Jill Butler (Essex, CT). A unique component of this day is you can come for FREE by donating time, stuff or blood. You choose by registering on our website. http://www.createthespaceyoudeserve.com See our spoken word performance artist, Azure Antoinette; featured in the April Issue of ‘Oprah’ Magazine.

Carolyn Moor, Allied Member ASID, is the Executive Director of the “Create the Space You Deserve” event coming to Orlando on April 15, 2011, hosted by CLOVE Orlando Women’s Group. Carolyn’s own personal life and design story was revealed on the Oprah Winfrey Show which uncovered that she herself was living within spaces that was keeping her emotionally stuck in the past and needing to ‘change what she saw so what she saw changed’. Her goal is to create spaces that feel moor alive and inspire a “grow where you are planted” philosophy.

BRITE GUY Robyn’s Rant:

Have a question for

OUR BRITE GUY? Dear Brite Guy, My husband has put on a few pounds since we’ve been married. I have still maintained my figure and I don’t think the “maintenance” should be a oneway street. How do I tell or show him that he needs to drop a few pounds?

Dear 2-Way Street, The solution is a lot easier than you think. You see, we guys would love to have the ability to have the same physique and metabolism that we once had in our adolescence. Hell, most of us feel as if we still do. I mean why else would I be eating this Mexican pizza and sipping a beer right now? Simply because somewhere in our brains we have told ourselves that we will eat better, exercise more, and get on track — tomorrow. But tomorrow comes and goes. Tomorrows are filled with excuses. Some are legit, some aren’t. Work, kids, weather, family, dog, stress, illness — these are the things that replace that morning jog or that pull up bar that is still in the box. We motivate ourselves to put in that extra hour at the office, but we won’t for exercise. Why? Because that extra hour at work represents braces for the kids, dinner with the wife, and money for bills; that is our motivation. So if we could find something that motivates us to put forth the same effort to get into shape, our problem is solved. Find the right motivators and you can help to release your husband’s inner Leonidas (hero-king of Sparta). It could be as simple as throwing on a pair of Sassy Pants and having the big guy jog behind you every morning.

Dear Brite Guy, I’m over the downtown scene and my so-called “matches” on my dating websites are sub par. Please help.

Dear Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places, You wouldn’t go looking for Jimmy Choo shoes at Wal-Mart. So don’t expect to find Prince Charming at your town’s version of the Jersey Shore. And as far as the online dating scene goes, from the hoards of people I have talked to, it should be called the online hook up scene. Very few people walk away with anything more than a broken heart or an STD. If you want to seriously meet someone that fits your bill, start by examining what you like. You like to run? Join a running club. You like jazz? Find places that are swanky and obscure. You like art and intelligent conversation? Hit up a museum or coffee shop. It’s not rocket science here sister. Get involved in some type of event that plays to the people that you want to be around. Or better yet, if you aren’t sure what you like, but you are sure what you don’t like, do what George Costanza did in Seinfeld and make an effort to do the opposite. You will expand your pool of choices and you may even learn something about yourself in the process. Happy hunting!

Religion and Politics on the First Date?

It’s a first date dilemma. Discuss politics and religion, or not? Most relationship experts tell you these are toxic topics. I say go for it. Don’t waste your valuable time. Get the “deal breakers” out of the way. We live in high-tech world of twitter and tweets. Why not speed up the search for Mr. or Mrs. Right? While doing research for this “rant” I put the ‘do you talk politics and religion on the first date’ question on my Facebook wall. Jason W. writes, “I want to know very early, it determines every choice that person makes.” Matt N. says, “Politics is an integral part of a person’s overall philosophy of how they view the world.” “No way could I do the Matalin-Carville thing” Carla C. exclaims. “Life is too short!” Scott D. sharply disagrees, “Why should it matter at all? If Mary and James can make it work well, that says it all!” Carla & Scott are referring to political consultants Mary Matalin (R) and James Carville (D) who met on the campaign trail, fell in love and married in 1993. Their union, as far as I am concerned, is an anomaly. (You can read all about it in their 1994 book All’s Fair – Love, War, and Running for President.) Some prefer to play it safe and stick to benign first date banter. Wendy C. says, “Talk about childhood stuff, college days. Make it fun while getting to know each other.” Lynn P. agrees, “First date is not the time. The first date is really just a ‘look and see,’ right? It’s not a commitment, it’s not a future, it’s just, ‘hi, nice to meet you.’” Michael M. keeps it simple and poignant. “For Miss Right, it matters. For a ‘Miss Right Now,’ it doesn’t matter,” he says. Thoughts on “Robyn’s Rant?” Email her your pet peeves to Robyn@ BriteGirl.com and friend her on Facebook! othing is more empowering than taking one’s future into her own hands by becoming an entrepreneur. Pursuing the lifelong dream of being an entrepreneur can be an intimidating journey, but thankfully it is not one that must be taken alone. Long gone are the days that entrepreneurs sat idle at their home offices praying for the elusive bank loan or the storybook windfall of money from a random dead relative. Thanks to the kindness of community investors through companies like Profounder. com, the entrepreneur in everyone is now allowed the chance to shine. Profounder.com is the world’s first peer-to-peer micro-lending network dedicated to micro lending in North America. Profounder.com has created a concept that will allow entrepreneurs to invite and manage the investors and the investments by creating a personal fundraising website. This helps investors get acquainted with not only the business but also the needs of the business. “Profounder‘s hope and purpose is to inspire and enable entrepreneurs to achieve their goals of establishing a viable businesses,” explains Mauriello. oon after the acquisition of Compaq, 30,000 Hewlett Packard (HP) employees lost their jobs. Additionally, thousands of jobs were shipped overseas and finally in 2005 Carly Fiorina, CEO was fired from HP mainly due to a lack of confidence in her ability to lead. In 2008, Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay resigned due to demands from shareholders that under her leadership the company’s stock price plummeted. More than 1,000 eBay employee’s lost their jobs and 40% of the work was outsourced overseas. It has been reported that CEO turnover in the last decade has gone from around 10% in the 1990’s to over 50%. We have seen the collapse of Wall Street, the Banking Industry, and the US housing market tumble. Many of the leaders of these organizations exit with lack luster results and golden parachutes. The average European employee works 30-40 hours a week and receives four to six weeks time off, while the average US worker works 50-60 hours a week and receives one to two weeks off. Productivity or profit is the question. At this point you get the picture, if we are to grow our roots in business, it has to begin with a solid foundation built on ethical and sound leadership. As a business coach, my job is to assist individual contributors and those with people responsibility to recognize how their leadership, or lack of, affects the company’s overall financial position. Far too many leaders in business fail to see the direct correlation between sound, ethical based leadership and profitability. Somewhere along the journey to maximize profits and productivity, many leaders have lost the core principles of leadership.

So how do we get back on track? Here are three ingredients to assist you in establishing roots that will build a solid foundation for your business: 1 LEAD WITH A PURPOSE. Your customers, employees and co-workers are watching you. Your ability to carve out your top three leadership principles and execute them in all you do is critical to your ability to lead. These principles should be grounded in a belief system built on ethics that transcend decisions that will compromise the lives of your employees and your business. 2 L ET PEOPLE KNOW THEY MATTER. As the leader in your organization it is your responsibility to ensure that every player on your team knows how his or her job contributes to the bottom line. It is when we take the time and make the effort to let every employee know that without their willingness to execute their responsibilities with excellence, the company would not be the success it is or better yet, the market leader it is destined to be. 3 R EMEMBER INNOVATION IS THE KEY TO DRIVING REVENUE. So often we as leaders spend far too many resources managing the bottom line, while the true opportunity lies in investing in new ways to bring the products and services our customers desire to market. The strategy of innovation allows businesses to stay on the cutting edge as well as generating revenues that provide opportunities to keep our promise to our stakeholders---job security, benefits, exceptional customer service, state of the art products & services while delivering maximum dividends. Growing your roots requires applying the right ingredients at the right time that not only will build a solid foundation, but also ensuring we don’t compromise our natural resources as we strive to lay the groundwork for leadership that will leave build a legacy.
