Why the British Safety Council? We are dedicated to making sure nobody is injured or made ill at work. For more than half a century we’ve been a trusted guide to excellent health, safety and environmental management. We have educated millions of workers and made hundreds of thousands of workplaces safer for everyone.

97% of employers said that qualifications led to better trained employees and 88% said that qualifications enhanced staff motivation when undertaking training Institute of Directors

We do this by sharing information, supporting, advising, educating and campaigning. In 2004 we became a government regulated awarding organisation and have developed a full suite of qualifications in the national framework. Our portfolio of accredited qualifications is available for you to deliver within your organisation once you become an approved centre. We work with all types of businesses and organisations who benefit from our expertise. Contact us to find out how we can help you.

Benefits of delivering qualifications • Qualifications in health and safety enable organisations to increase the knowledge, skills and competence of their workforce, contributing to the prevention of accidents and meeting legal and other obligations • Formal qualifications ensure that people are healthier and safer at work and promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace • Formal qualifications are an objective way of checking and demonstrating standards required for internal and external compliance purposes such as OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 • Knowledge gained through qualifications enables employees and organisations to stay up to date with changes in legislation and practice • Results of external assessments enable organisations to ensure that training has been absorbed • Qualifications enhance staff motivation and lead to better engagement with in-house induction and training programmes. Our qualifications We specialise in health, safety and environmental qualifications, and understand the benefits that these qualifications can bring. Our learning materials and assessments are designed to be accessible and fit for purpose, and are developed with our vision in mind – that no-one should be injured or made ill at work. Other features include: • All qualifications accredited by Ofqual in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) • A comprehensive suite from Entry Level to Level 6 to suit every age group and requirement, providing a clear progression route • Fit for purpose workplace based assessments which relate directly to the learner’s job role • Our Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications can be taken online and, if computers are not easy to access, there is always a paperbased option • Multiple choice examinations for Level 1 and selected Level 2 qualifications with instant results for online examinations • Learning materials written by our expert team which can be supplemented with your own materials • An online qualifications system which allows you to book assessments and access results online • We re-credit all assessments booked, but not used for any given examination session.

How it works Becoming an Approved Centre is a simple process. We have dedicated relationship managers to answer any questions, offer guidance and help you make the most of delivering our qualifications to meet the needs of your organisation. • Once we receive your completed application and it is approved, we will send you instructions on how to set up your online account • In your online account, you can add the qualifications you want to deliver • You can access learning materials (student notes and PowerPoint slides) for each qualification you want to deliver directly from your account • For many qualifications we also have e-learning courses available so you can deliver the material cost-effectively, without having to take people away from their work • When your candidates are ready you simply book their assessment using our online system • Online multiple choice examinations are marked and results issued instantly (or within 2 working days if paper based). Written tasks are marked by independent examiners with results and certificates issued within 10 working days. Manage your account online In addition to the delivery of the learning, approved centres can control the administration of candidates, assessments (both online and paper-based), and results through our online qualifications system.

Manage your qualifications online:

The online system enables you to: • Enrol and manage candidates • Book examination sessions • Monitor candidate progress with real-time updates • Record names and results of all your candidates for each qualification • Access instant results for online examinations • Access a result summary for each examination session • View assessment credits. With online assessments, centres will be re-credited for anyone who is booked onto an examination session, but does not take the assessment.
