EDITOR’S LETTER

It’s all CONCRETE. And here we are ready for Spring. It’s already a fact that 2019 started very powerful, fruitful and actually, like never before as I see a lot of people around rising quicker, being more positive, doing a lot more than they were doing last year, being very focused and thinking really healthy and good THOUGHTS. Now seems a bit weird to ask but… is it just me seeing this happening? I mean… Looks like the whole World is taking the fast lane, developing with a flash speed in less than milliseconds and this was not possible before. Well, I guess it’s more CONCRETE by now that we are going towards a data era where speed is faster than we can even think but still we have the power of being creative and wisdom will matter more so I guess we don’t even need to be afraid or retained. We just need to think smart and act smarter so we can maximize our productivity and minimize our energy consumption. And yes, I underline Concrete because the World seems that is now aiming more to more precise targets making the projection of the future to take place better than ever and this is very good I am sure that the big difference which makes this world go fast its actually that hard work became more smart work. That Is a theory of course. Back to our Spring Edition, I must say WOW!!! And wow because the genius CHARLIE CHAPLIN was a mentor for me since I grew up watching his movies and actually he somehow gave a guideline to my life after I saw “The Dictator” which I’m sure we all know (if not I strongly recommend you to watch) and I was more than honored to photoshoot a part of his family, and I am now officially saying THANK YOU to our Spring Cover Girl, beautiful KIERA CHAPLIN (granddaughter of Charlie) not just for allowing me to capsulate and share this priceless moments with all of you as I know you’re all curious about her (and I know if because I received a lot of messages after the photoshoot) and just to let you know… She’s adorable, lovely, humble and very down to Earth but also vibrant and bold so as conclusion in a concrete phrase “She makes the Spring look magic”. And as we price the value as this is what we aim to share… I’m very happy to announce that she will personally sign a limited edition of 50 magazines which we will mix and distribute with all the other magazines so you being lucky is what I wish to all of you and hopefully you keep one in your hands right now. Have a lovely SPRING! PS: We are now accepting submissions for our Summer Issue. Send in your submissions by this 10th of April or sooner.

fashion story Paab is a luxury designer standing behind a few fashion and accessories brands and other bespoke commissioned projects including interior designs. For many years now, Paab’s home and heart has resided in London, where he has found the peace for his soul as well as thriving energy and endless opportunities so much needed to develop and present his talents How did you decide to become a designer? I have always been a creative soul, which is probably what most designers would say. It is true though! Since my early childhood I have been surrounded by people loving beauty, art and design. My grandfather was a painter, sculpturer and he would write poems. He was one of the people who taught me a lot and I am sure he would have shared with me much more knowledge if he had only stayed with us longer. His personality had a huge impact both on my personal and emotional as well as creative development. He planted the seed in my brain that the world is full of amazing colours, shapes and textures which are there for you to create magic. What was the first design you remember? My first designs were actually related to beauty products and fragrances. As a kid, I would mix different ingredients and create natural creams, which I would then test on my family members (laugh) as well as perfumes from natural essences. Later on, I drew packaging and designed the bottles… and everything until I was ten years old! As my grandfather passed away, I most probably lost my creative guide so I didn’t do anything in this direction for a longer while. Only years later, when my mother eventually took after his talents and started painting, I recommenced thinking about creative path again. Did you start thinking about it as a professional art and design career? In a way yes. As a teenager, I would

8 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

develop my drawing skills and actually prepare for studying Architecture. I have never started those studies as life led me in a different direction for a while. It was only after I had moved to London when I started studying design and pursuing my creative career. This is where I completed my first interior design projects and founded my first fashion label. It sounds like London shall be a very important place for you then? Undoubtedly London is the city which has shaped me the way I am now and allowed me to develop my true passion and talents. London is my home and my largest source of inspiration. It amazes and inspires me every day. With its history, variety of people and cultures, London is definitely the place where dreams do come true. You simply never know from which side they will come at you… I have lived in other cities and travelled quite a lot, but it is London which has truly won my heart. How come you have specialised in handbag design? The whole idea of creating the handbag empire started 5 years ago when I designed my first bags and launched the first brand LE SURI, which brought to life unique sustainable handbags made from cork. In Autumn last year I started a new high-luxury handbags brand which was officially launched during London Fashion Week by Quintessentially - the world’s largest concierge company. The label called ANTOINE AMATO introduced the world’s first mix&match croco-python handbags with interchangeable tops, which are

timelessly elegant and playful at the same time. I am currently working on the second capsule collection which will also feature smaller clutches and other accessories. Is there anything else you would like to create? Yes, absolutely! I have already worked on bespoke interior designs and other private commissions. Some of them mustn’t be shared as they were specially created for affluent individuals who highly value their privacy. I still do work on other one-off projects let it be a commercial project in Nepal, residential spaces in London or bespoke oud perfumes for Middle Eastern clients. I would never want to pigeonhole myself as a „handbag” or „fashion” or „interior” designer. I want to further develop my design career and with the amount of the ideas I have, and opportunities around me, I am very hopeful for the future. The luxury handbags is not my last word, more is coming very soon… You have been designing for a few years now… why do we see you only now? At some point you need to realise who you truly are and stop fighting or hiding it, yet do your best to make the most of your uniqueness. I am a naturally humble person and never really looked for the spotlights. Many of my friends encouraged me however to show my face and let people know who is standing behind the designs. I believe 2019 is the year of miracles and I am ready for them to happen in my life! Contact: www.paabofficial.com

APU JAN 2019

“The Game of Detection” Fall/Winter ‘019

T

he inspiration for this season’s collection began with a story of detection. The story begins on a train, with dinosaur fossils, and a buyer, a painter, a gambler, a thief, police, also a record keeper back from the future attempting to solve the mystery but is unable to intervene. There are also mysterious ladies onboard, who appear to be preparing for a big event, and a diagram detailing the relationships between the persons of interest that are studied by both police and detective. Apu Jan has once again, created an original story with his new line of clothing and music. The detective elements and clues in the catwalk show will also be brought to the storefront and to the brand events when APUJAN launches the AW2019 collection, allowing visitors to continue solving the mysteries. Apu Jan, an avid reader since he was a child, paid tribute to sci-fi literature in his previous collections. This season, he turns his attention to crime and mystery novels. This original story was created using many details and elements in the pieces that pay homage to authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Josephine Tey, Ellery Queen, Anthony Berkeley, Raymond Chandler, Stanley Ellin, Marc Behm, Lawrence Block, Higashino Keigo and Isaka Kotaro. The elements used to pay tribute to the classic detective novels are hidden in the prints and jacquard materials of the designs, including opened letters, black cats, train tracks, playing cards, pipes, chess pieces, puzzles, pocket-watches, flowers, chocolate and lamb. The detective story still includes the elements that Apu Jan likes to express on his clothing, such as time, time travel, fantasy, dinosaur fossils, fantastic creatures, flowers, keys and open pages. The APUJAN Fall/Winter collection kicked off with the sound of a train whistle and car resonances. The theme story began on a train full of intriguing characters from thieves, detectives, policemen, painters, gamblers to a fashion traveller who wanted to solve a mystery. People who came to the show included British acting celebrity Fredrik Ferrier, Taiwanese male prince (Qiu Shengyu), former head of knitting at the Royal College of Design Sarah Dallas and many others.

LOUIS’S TOP 9 TIPS

● Exfoliate at least once a week to get rid of any dead skin cells for that healthy summer glow. ● Invest in a good quality SPF. ● Make sure to adjust your foundation color according to the season – go half a shade to a shade darker in summer. ● Consider texture: Opt for a light to medium weight liquid or cream compact foundation for that fresh, dewy, hydrated summer glowing skin. Make sure to set it with a translucent powder on the T-panel to avoid unnecessary shine. Use a (matte) bronzer to create architectural interest through contouring by defining your bone structure, sweep the bronzer over your face with a big powder brush where the sun would naturally kiss your face. Use a big powder brush and sweep it over forehead, cheeks, nose and chin for that sun kissed look. ● Use a highlighter (cream or powder) on the orbital bone in a “C” shape, make sure to blend with a brush or your fingers. One could also add a dash of highlighter on the cupids bow of the lip,

14 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

this will create the illusion of volume and make your lips appear fuller. Apply a hint on the inner corners of the eye to open them up and make them look fresher and brighter. ● Don’t be afraid to create a signature look by enhancing your best feature/s, create some drama by applying a bold lip color such as a magenta or a fuchsia – have fun and experiment! Apply a talc-based lip pencil underneath to ensure a more durable long wearing lip. ● Invest in a good quality smudge proof mascara to prevent it from running. Cream based, waterproof eye shadows are a definite summer must have, sweep it over the eye lid to create a base for powder eye shadows. ● Don’t wash your hair everyday, rather invest in a color-coded dry shampoo when needed as to preserve the health of your hair. ● If hot styling aids are used often, invest in a nourishing hair mask and use at least once to twice a week to keep hair looking healthy and moisturized. For added protection use a thermal heat protecting spray and in the case of dehydrated dry hair use a light weight leave in conditioner.

MAKEUP IS LIKE A COMPOSING SONG by Louis Fritz

Ex national director of artistry for Bobbi Brown South Africa, Louis Fritz is our go to make-up art and he has got all the red, hot glamour tips. Having spent the last five years overseas travelling to countries like, China, Germany, Seychelles, Miami and Dubai working on international celebrities such as, Miss India, Miss Universe, Miss America, Americas Next Top Model, The Royal family of Bahrain and international TV and Movie stars, Louis has his finger on the pulse when it comes to all beauty related things His love for make up started at the tender age of two, he discovered his mother’s lipstick and decided to take a bite of it…. It was literally love at first bite! He draws inspiration from his surroundings and his many travels, “The sensory explosion of smells, textures and colors is where I draw my creative energy from. Sometimes in my moments of madness I crush and make my own eye shadows and pigments to find the exact shade or color I want. My two muses will always be my mom and my sister – their inner beauty and strength is what keeps me going. I started doing make up on my mom and my aunt while I was still in primary school. I was later blessed with the birth of my sister who became my own personal Barbie, I was always doing her hair and makeup and styling her for impromptu fashion shoots, however my career officially started about 20 years ago when I did my first wedding, this kick started everything and I haven’t looked back since.”

His style is described as soft glam, classic and timeless with high precision to detail. He loves enhancing every feature to its maximum potential while playing down others so that there is balance. “Make up is like composing a song its all about the harmony” We chatted to the guru, rummaged our way into his make up box and got a few of his top tips, tools and tricks for Spring/ Summer 2019.

The inspiration we took to create WS Studios was from the owner himself Walter. His dark sense of humour, keeping himself away from the limelight yet loving a super luxury, relaxed and family feel. The salon painted black intrigues anyone that enters our salon, as does Walter, standing quietly taking everything in and keeping his cards very close to his chest.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BIGGEST C OLOUR TREND SINCE HOLLY GOLIGHTLY’S HIGHLIGHTS What is balayage?

Balayage is a French colouring technique that was developed in the 1970s. It’s a freehand technique where the colour is applied by hand rather than using the traditional foiling or cap highlighting techniques. Balayage can be used in even the shortest pixie crop however the best results is in hair below the shoulders.

The appeal

You can achieve so many different effects from soft, natural highlights to something strong and punky. The fact it’s so low maintenance is such a drawcard for women too. People want to look fashionable and feel good about their appearance but in this day and age we don’t all have the time to be in the salon every few weeks for a touch up. It’s also a very economical way to colour your hair as you never have a solid demarcation line or regrowth, so if you can’t afford to get it done for another month it won’t look atrocious. However, if your balayage isn’t done correctly you can end up with excessive overlapping that can cause damage.

How it’s done

The process varies depending on the length of the hair and the desired result. You can expect to have individual strands coloured with a brush and a backing board. Some colourists like to separate their sections with cotton wool or foil, others tease the hair in sections first then freehand colour the ends.

The best hairstyles for balayage

I always love to see balayage finished with loose curls or a beachy, tousled look where you can see the colour variations ribbon through the hair. Sharp, strong haircuts like a bob require a stronger colour or a block colour to show off the cut. Balayage is best left to more flowing hairstyles.

Top maintenance tips

Balayage will dry your hair out no more than classic foiling as long as you have a trained professional applying your colour. As with foils you should always use salon professional shampoos and conditioners as well as have regular treatments. No matter what the technique, your colour will always look its best if your hair is in good condition.

Does balayage have an expiry date?

The technique has been around for so long and will remain an integral part of the way we colour in the salon for as long as I can foresee. However, the trend at the moment with the heavy graduation from dark to light is constantly changing. It started out about five years ago being very subtle with people like Gisele Bundchen being a favourite. A more natural, sun-kissed effect was desired then. In the last few years we have seen much stronger effects being worn, for example [stylist] Pip Edwards, who has really taken it to the next level. This winter we have seen the same techniques used but with a warmer, deeper feel. Lots of celebrities have their balayage finished with copper or red glosses and this is now being called the new ombre look. Website: www.wsstudios.co.uk britishTHOUGHTS.uk | 17

START BEING THE HEALTHIEST YOU! In the heart of London, in Marylebone, just off Harley Street, which has been noted for its large number of private specialists in medicine, I found this warm and cozy place that not only makes you feel comfortable, but it can also potentially save your life.

Sonoworld Diagnostic Services is an outstanding private ultrasound diagnostic clinic, located in a glorious Victorian building well within the famous Medical District. The clinic provides the widest range of ultrasound scans that one can find in London, being led by a very experienced and fully qualified Consultant Sonographer with over 20 years of experience in medical field, Ms. Daniela Stan (photo). At Sonoworld, Daniela offers, at very competitive prices, ultrasound evaluation and diagnosis of abdomen, pelvis, pregnancy, thyroid and neck, breast, abdominal aorta, musculoskeletal joint scans and soft tissue lumps, hernia, deep vein thrombosis and carotid arteries. At Sonoworld you can have a sameday ultrasound appointment with instant results and a reliable diagnosis aided by a very performant, high-resolution scanner of the latest generation.

Important facts

●D iagnostic ultrasound is the modality of choice in detecting a wide variety of internal organs pathologies as it is a safe and painless technique. There are no side effects associated with ultrasound imaging.

●U ltrasound is a relatively low-cost diagnostic tool for breast, ovarian, thyroid, testicle and prostate cancer as it can detect very early cancerous lesions. ●T he ultrasound diagnosis tremendously increases the chance of survival when used in emergency situations. ●T he result is available instantaneously which allows a prompt referral for further management and treatment. ●R ecently NHS started a campaign for medical prevention, but at present, there are no reliable screening programs available.

The best medicine is always to prevent rather than treat

"The big CA word is a terrifying one that is worrying all of us. It takes a simple test like ultrasound to make sure the internal organs are normal and functioning properly. Any organ can potentially suffer transformation starting, at a cellular level, either through genetic predisposition or acquired through mutations under the 24 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

influence of various factors acting alone or in combinations", says Ms. Daniela Stan, MSc in Medical Ultrasound.

A complete ultrasound checkup for the price of one scan

The clinic created affordable ultrasound packages. For example, the Well Woman or Well Man ultrasound scans, which include four different scans, so a complete ultrasound checkup, cost £358 while other private companies charge £400 for only an abdominal scan.

Sticky Mango 33 Coin St London SE1 9NR

Tel: +44 (0)2079284554 www.stickymango. co.uk Instagram @stickymangoldn

SPRING IS HERE! What will you be cooking?

WHEN DID YOU OPEN STICKY MANGO? I opened Sticky Mango in Oct 2016 as a pop up concept in the basement of an old French Brasserie just off London’s South Bank. Having worked as Executive chef of Spice Market a concept created by 2 Michelin Star Chef Jean Georges Vongerichten for 5 Years I felt the time was right to start exploring the idea of opening my own place. The concept was simple a progressive interpretation of classic St food dishes from South East Asia with influences from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia. We started with 60 seats, no investor and a very small budget to get up and running. By Dec 26th we were Ranked the number one Restaurant in London on Trip Advisor and with 18,500 competitors that was quite something. Business continued to grow and by March 2017 we were closing down the French Brasserie and now had 110 seats to fill. In Nov 2018 I completed the buyout of the lease hold and business. It’s been quite a journey to get to where we are with many challenges, but It’s all been worth the stress and strain. WHY STICKY MANGO? During my time at Spice Market and Suka at the Sanderson I really started to become recognised as a chef specialising in South East Asian Cuisine. Appearances on BBC Saturday Kitchen and multiple appearances on Master Chef and other shows had made me stand out and I wanted to build on this profile. There’s not too many British Chefs in London cooking this style of cuisine so it was a natural progression to focus in this style. I wanted a restaurant name that would be fun, quirky and stand out from the crowd. Mango Sticky Rice has always been one of my favourite street food dishes and I felt if we made something special around this dish it could be a signature of the restaurant and then Sticky Mango was born. HOW DID YOU GET INTO SOUTH EAST ASIAN CUISINE? Having Cooked Modern European cuisine for the first 16 years of my career it 28 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

was quite daunting to inherit a Modern Malaysian Restaurant when I took over as Executive Chef at the Sanderson Hotel, but once I really got into the cuisine and started to understand the history and respect the different influences that make Malaysian Cuisine I was fascinated and so hungry to learn more. My experience of cooking techniques from my previous years plays a pivotal role in modernising street food classics to a more formal dining experience. Once I moved to Spice Market I was then exposed to more influences, history and recipes from all over South East Asia. TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT MENU. The Great thing about Street food is its so versatile for all aspects of a menu offering. At Sticky Mango you can have something quick, casual and inexpensive especially for lunch or pre theatre like Malaysian Chicken Puffs or a Singaporean Char Kwey Teow. If you want something a bit more high end the Singaporean Chilli Lobster, Red Curry Crab Dumplings, or Lamb Shank Massaman Curry might be more your thing. The most popular choice on the menu is the 9 flavour Tasting Menu its served over 4 courses sharing style and is a perfect choice if you’re out on a date or having a group dinner with friends or family. Desserts is where I believe we stand out from the crowd. Asian restaurants over the years have really

struggled to impress with their offerings either resulting in a tropical fruit salad with mango sorbet. The Sticky Mango Dessert has changed over the years and is currently influenced by Indonesian Black Sticky Rice. The Pandan Macaron inspired from the street food snack Kaya Toast and served with Caramel and Soy Sauce Ice Cream, but my current favourite is the Peanut Nougat Satay, Smoked Chocolate Ganache, Charcoal and Lime Ice Cream. SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER WHAT WILL YOU BE COOKING? Well its still a bit chilly here in London during Spring so we’ll still have a little richness to the menu. Beef Short Rib Rendang will be coming back we garnish it with an Apple, Jicama and Coconut Salad to add a little lightness. We have a cpl of months left for mussels so we will be serving them Nyonya Laksa style and a great dish Vietnamese Style with Confit Duck finished with a fish sauce and palm sugar glaze. WHATS NEXT FOR PETER LLOYD? It’s going to be an exciting year, we will continue to develop my other restaurant concept Kama Sushi offering great Modern Sushi with the signature dishes being a Roasted Fish Collar called Kama in Japanese. Sticky Mango will be travelling this year too with some great Pop ups expected in Italy, Malaysia and the middle east. I will also be appearing at the World St food Congress being held in Manilla later in the year.

Summer will be here before you know it and we hope you know how important it is to avoid crash dieting and extreme workouts in order to get in shape! The faster you try to lose the weight, the faster it will come right back. So don’t wait, start today and get in shape for the summer the healthy way. If you want results and get in shape, you absolutely have to clean up your diet and take time for recovery! It’s simply not healthy to work out for hours and only focus on calories burned. You must also start incorporating more quality, unprocessed foods into your diet, stay hydrated, and get enough sleep! Need some help? It is a well-known fact that to maintain health, adopting a healthy lifestyle is vital. Eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, not smoking, avoiding stress and sleeping well are a MUST to stay in shape. The benefits of physical activity on health have been proven over and over again, but to fully enjoy them, it is essential to exercise regularly (at least three time a week, ideally every day) over a long period of time. But most of the people give up really quick, so setting goals will motivate you to get there. Post them in strategic places: on the refrigerator door, on your bedside table or even on your smartphone. Select goals with measurable results, such as a number of kilos to lose within a specific time frame. You should also set a final objective as well as intermediate objectives, that will motivate you. And how can you achieve your results?

Find an activity that you enjoy Why trying to start swimming if you hate water or signing up at a gym if you like to exercise outdoors? Do you love to dance? Sign up for an aerobics or Zumba class. If you prefer flexibility training sign up for yoga! The most important thing is to find out what suits you better!

Adapt to your needs Try to change up your daily routine by taking advantage of opportunities to move: climb stairs instead if taking the elevator or take a walk instead of driving. Simply integrating a few physical activities to your day can really help you feel better. Every little gesture counts.

Be consistent Start gently, then add levels of difficulty (more kilometres, more laps in the pool, more weight in the gym or more reps etc.) as your body gets used to exercising. Pushing yourself too much at the beginning may lead you to give up or get injured. Also rest enough between workouts.

Rest Take breaks. After an intense week of training, why not relax by watching a film with a special someone, or enjoying a good quality meal? It is important to reward your efforts; it’s up to you to choose how. Plan your week and what rewards you gonna give yourself by the end of it. Rewards are a strong motivation.

Find a training partner Talk about your process with your family, friends and colleagues, and tell them about your goal perhaps some of them will want to join you to your workout sessions!

Be strong and control the lack of motivation Moments of lack of motivation are inevitable; after a while, you may start feeling like giving up on your healthy habits. Be tolerant with yourself, question the reasons that are making you feel like slowing down. Then try to find ways to fix the situation: go to bed earlier, find a new activity, seek out a personal trainer, etc. Ideally, try to plan strategies ahead so that you have tools to use when you start feeling a drop in motivation. If you start feeling like stopping your fitness journey, think of the countless benefits that exercise provides in terms of your health, strength and self confidence. Think about the benefits and about everything you gonna loose by giving up. You’re not a looser!!!

Avoid getting bored The best way to avoid getting bored is to vary your activities. So walk, run, swim and dance if you feel like it! Fill up your weeks with different activities. Do you prefer regularity and routine? Or, do you prefer diversity? Simply changing routes, for example, can allow a runner to get his or her motivation back. In the gym just book a session with a personal trainer or book a professional to help you with new training routine or diet plan. Boredom is the enemy of perseverance.

Here’s also some tips about food

1. Cut out sugar. If you have to have it, no more than 15 grams a day and stay away from artificial sweeteners. (No diet soda).

6. Eat soup. Have a vegetable based, low sodium soup as dinner for at least three nights in a row, or every other night for a week.

2. Drink lots of water with fresh lemon.

7. Avoid red meat. Eat cold water fish and organic poultry, and keep the portions to the size of a deck of cards.

3. Use a smaller plate. This simple tip has helped many of my clients (and myself) really connect to the concept of “portion control.” 4. Eat with chopsticks or scale down the size of your utensils. Use a small fork and a teaspoon, for example. 5. No white bread, rice, flour or pasta. Go gluten free. Quinoa, millet, brown rice, buckwheat, and cornmeal, etc

DIET PLAN SAMPLE FOR WEIGHT LOSS Breakfast: 1 Cup of green tea without sugar 1 boiled egg 50g oats cooked in water (easy to make in the microwave) with half a banana and a teaspoon of cinnamon Middle of the morning: 1 piece of fruit

8. Eat the rainbow. Enjoy colorful, organic vegetables at every meal and organic berries for breakfast and snacks.

Lunch: Vegetable soup or cooked vegetables (broccoli, spinach, green beans etc) 120g of white meat or fish 80g cooked rice or potatoes

9. Eat carrots, celery, peppers, etc. Wash, chop and put in baggies for easy access.

Middle of the afternoon: 1 cup of green tea 50 grams of nuts (almonds, walnuts, peanuts etc)

10. Do NOT sit and eat while watching TV. You will always eat more then you’re supposed.

Dinner: Similar to lunch Before bed: Protein shake (blend with water, half avocado, 1 scoop of protein, half banana) britishTHOUGHTS.uk | 31

PAUL CAPELLI ARTIST: Paul Capelli

Paul Capelli was born in Italy in a town by a lake surrounded by mountains and spectacular landscapes. “There was beauty all around me but I soon realised that, for my personal growth, there was something missing: access to a variety of cultures”. Since he was a child he dreamed of having an international life. “For me, there is nothing more interesting than people and culture. I gave up a very stable life to discover the beauty of different traditions.” He moved to Madrid to learn Spanish, a language that is very close to his heart. He also lived in Brazil for some time to learn Portuguese and to understand the secret behind the amazing music that makes Brazil so famous and vibrant. He currently lives in London because he feels it is pretty much the sum of the world: “Every day in the tube is a journey among hundreds of cultures and thousands of different stories.” His love for photography began quite recently, when he was looking for a powerful medium to capture a story. His passion and his challenge is to become one of the best artistic portrait photographers in Europe. He plans to experiment with portraits involving water, fire, smoke and earth.

FASHION

LEGENDARY STYLE

- What are you most excited for this Spring in the creative industry ? I am launching a new digital magazine called MRWARBURTON that is mostly an edgy photo journal with art and fashion show coverage. I love covering young designers such as Malne along with Juan Vidal in Spain and independent designers around the world. I have a journalist in the Ukraine now finding some of their best talent. - When you are working what do you love wearing ? Generally I have a few changes of clothes. I don’t style very much anymore because I spend most of my time doing consulting or as a creative director but I always wear a clean base... a tank with a good trouser and of course lots of jewelry. I love accessories. Then I change my jackets throughout the day for photos on set and for filming. I am the creative director of Lapalme Magazine and we started a web series called Face To Face where I sit down with celebrities that we are featuring in the magazine. Plus photo opps etc, therefore I am changing a lot for more content. Even on an off day I have a casual morning look, then day and of course something for dinner. Dressing makes me happy and it’s a lost art form. - Name a few designers that never disappoint. I love love love Valentino. I think it’s really exciting how they have reinvented themselves. Commes de Garçon is always fantastic and you can keep every piece for years. I love what Galliano has done with Margiela. I thought this season was so detailed and chic. Also for newcomers Palomo Spain has come out with a stellar collection. - What are some fashion don’ts for Spring? There are so many trends right now and living in Los Angeles, I walk down Melrose and see the victims of them all. I love pink

but when you have the overdone (and over styled) pink hair with the pink faux fur, pink shoes and pink hot shorts... too much... I love all of those trends but split up to show great current style. - Your brand Mr. Warburton, tell us about your jewellery line - What can we look forward too ? I LOVE jewelry and I love working with it. More big stones, I’m doing some semi precious for spring with diamonds. Also Rose gold is an obsession... with pearls - A piece of advice for fashionistas looking to add to their Spring

My biggest creative challenge has been how to finance for projects. When you work as a creative your ideas are always bigger than the budget. Therefore in order to pull off interesting endeavors sometimes raising the funds is more of a challenge than the project itself. I find that it is all part of the process. - What’s been your best giving experience? I am involved in many charities. Firstly I was a homeless teen and years ago I started working with an organization in nyc called Bottomless Closet. My program was called, HOW TO BE DEREK FABULOUS. I have helped over 1000 women get clothing to get them back to work. When I moved to LA I was awarded the style ambassadorship from the city and state legislature for my work with the homeless and people in need. It is an honor after all the years helping underprivileged in New York to be able to continue my work in Los Angeles, the homeless capital of America. Then I am the international goodwill ambassador of Just a Drop, which is a British organization that facilitated clean water and sanitation in 3rd world counties. Last year I went to Nicaragua to film a documentary short on the hardships of the region. With all my efforts from the trip the organization was able to to help over 500 people and their families build wells for clean water for the first time in their lives. - What is the best advice you’ve ever been given that has stuck with you ? The best advice I have ever gotten was from talk show host and comedian Craig Ferguson. We were in a tv development deal and I was stressed about getting my projects on air. He informed me to take that time to enjoy the process and the journey, Because when you think you have “made it” it’s all down hill from there because you spend your life trying to maintain it.

„I buy pieces, some expensive & some very affordable. Style has no price”

40 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

Wardrobe? Make 10 year purchases. I need lots and lots of clothes because I have so many projects where I need to to visible. Therefore I borrow some and purchase a bit. I buy pieces, some expensive and some very affordable. Style has no price. Just this week I bought an inexpensive street style nylon coat. But I went to the garment district and added feathers coming out of the cuffs and a rhinestone tab in the back. Be innovative, there’s no wrong way and in the world of Zara and H&M it is so important to be an individual. - What’s the top print for Spring ? Versace darling - How influences are you by current trends? I’m only influenced by trends if it is my look. I only buy me. I will look for trends but I evolve it into my style so I can wear for years. For instance leopard is everywhere this year. I have a pair of leopard louboutins I bought 8-10 years ago that I just pulled out to start wearing again. - What has been the biggest creative challenge in your career to date?

event

Hotel Mandarin Oriental Paris

At the beginning of 2019, the Hotel Mandarin Oriental Paris hosted one of the biggest events from which British THOUGHTS Magazine had the honor to be part. Here we discovered how luxury, refinement and quality are all combined at a very high level. Starting from the minuteness with which perfect handcrafted embroideries are made impeccable by Renaissance Paris to the impressive painted details done by Isabelle Arpagian on Faberge Eggs and leading to the fine details that add value to the bright and shining parts of Cristal Benito’s masterpieces. But these are just a few highlights that happened. It was a big event and a pleasure to admire eyewear creations by designer Sebastien Geslin, who manages to combine the art of wood, finishing the notion of vintage with the actuality of the moment. It was a lot of “bespoke fragrance in the air and articles created by Authentique Paris that made me think how valuable a place or space can a place become only by adding a touch of those unique hangers. Moving forward, admiring the variety of products, was hard not to observe the brilliant pieces of Fradkof Paris or the massive silver that one of the eldest French Companies like Odiot Paris (founded at 1690) is using in handcrafting their impeccable products. The place was visited by so many high quality people from different countries around the world making the moment a real success and overall the event was magic.

PROTECTING YOUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR) Intellectual property law seeks to encourage the creation of a large variety of intellectual goods intended to offer moral rights to the creator whilst providing businesses with the opportunity of enjoying these property rights. This gives economic incentive for their creation, because it allows people to profit from their intellectual goods or information that they create. No doubt, these economic incentives are expected to stimulate innovation and contribute to the technological progress of countries, which depends on the extent of protection granted to innovators. Needless to say therefore that the responsibility of protecting an Intellectual property lies with the creator. There are various ways in which a creator can seek to do this (depending on the subject matter of creation). Trademarks (TM or R), Patents (P), Design & Industrial Designs (D), Copyright © are the main methods of protection. Theatrum Vitae’s “THE PATH OF APHRODITE”

Theatrum Vitae Initiative Creator Rafael Porzycki: “My hope and belief is that Theatrum Vitae will strive to embrace people and the world for the better”

It is my spiritual discovery as to who we are in this universe. It all started with an idea and has evolved, more specifically, to a clearer concept of a necessity to build a better understanding between people today and how to make this world a better place to live. Theatrum Vitae, once a concept without a name, but with a strong meaning, has commenced its evolution. What inspired the concept? Olga Balakleets: Being an artist myself and having worked with many outstanding talents as a producer, I was beginning to feel an emptiness, a feeling of lacking really fresh ideas and in fact, losing the purpose of the entertainment business in general. Meeting Rafael and hearing his new electrifying ideas about human civilisation which could be applied to the performing arts, where I felt I started sinking, was a break through. Intensive discussions between us, meetings with many new fascinating artists, searching for something new, led to finding a new way of thinking about life, its purpose and creating a new cultural platform which was to be called Theatrum Vitae.

How did you decide on the name for such a special project? Rafael Porzycki: Not an easy task indeed! Finding a relevant name for something which was to be the platform of our fast growing team with many followers, into a new and exciting future, took time and patience. An English name would be too simple, Greek with the project’s strong Greek connections would be too difficult for the rest of the world, so what could be better than Latin, a foundation of all civilisation. The name had to be related to the most essential feelings about life, hence, we decided on this preferred title, and I think, one which describes the true meaning of life, and feeling life is a theatre, ever changing and flowing, so “Theater of Life” - Theatrum Vitae (in Latin) was born. How did you both agree on what

Theatrum Vitae’s objectives will be? Olga Balakleets: Such a challenging name should belong to an equally challenging project which should have strong aims. New debates came about what Theatrum

Vitae should aim for to embrace a culture of people across the universe and deliver the depth of the project’s ethos. Rafael Porzycki: I felt however ambitious;

Theatrum Vitae will aim for all the answers, especially for people who are in need of finding answers about the existence of life and living, and about their purpose. Performing arts and the arts generally have a healing and uniting affect on people in today’s fragile and uncertain world. Theatrum Vitae is a beautiful and complex synthesis of performing and visual arts. Olga Balakleets: Slowly we were coming to an understanding about the forms and activities of Theatrum Vitae’s platform. Rafael as a concept creator was always the driving force behind these ideas, but I felt that all his views and ideas were resonating naturally with my understanding of life and performing arts in general. Soon we realised we were building a serious of grand, specially created shows which will analyse in the most creative and effective way, reflecting the history of our civilisation. britishTHOUGHTS.uk | 61

Was choosing the themes of these ambitious shows a challenge. How did you decide and tell us more about the nature of these shows? Rafael Porzycki: We decided to start at the beginning, with the mythological times, in my beloved and adopted home, Cyprus, when the first humans created a cult of gods and the first story is naturally dedicated to the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite, who was created in Cyprus. Our beautiful performances will therefore inevitably start in Cyprus, in Aphrodite’s home, making a special base for Theatrum Vitae on the island in the future. Supported by many international established artists, directors, composers, choreographers, we are creating an experience which will be a total breakthrough experience for the island. Olga Balakleets: Theatrum Vitae’s first shows “The Path of Aphrodite” is planned for the summer of 2019 in

Cyprus. Describing the story of Aphrodite, in this show about the origins of our heritage based on Greek mythology, we will implement the most contemporary production language with the most advanced technologies allowing the audience to live the past through tomorrow’s lenses. A synthesis of all the performing arts - music, dance, drama helped by advanced technology will come alive creating an amazing show, making a truly memorable experience for Cypriots and all visiting the island. What future scope do you envisage for Theatrum Vitae? Rafael Porzycki: The experience of summer 2019 in Cyprus will be implemented by numerous satellite Theatrum Vitae’s performances involving international and Cypriot young talents spreading the power of our new and innovative cultural platform with a message of harmony and love. Eventually

we are planning to build an open sky museum, a total unique concept to Cyprus, which will be dedicated to the ancient and contemporary worlds of culture, this is what Cyprus and actually the whole world is about, a connection between the heritage and the future. Olga Balakleets: Theatrum Vitae will be moving to Greece, Italy and UK with the next grand shows discovering important phases in the history of our civilisation - Greek philosophers, renaissance and today’s digital world with each country representing each of these spheres. Each of these ambitious shows will be created and designed by a team of international experts and an exceptional cast. You plan to address through your project the issue of today’s technology and the negative, intensifying impact it has on the young generation? Rafael Porzycki: The last of the first circle of Theatrum Vitae’s shows, Cyber World, is very symbolic and addresses concerns about our state of mind, about the young generation being totally dependable on the digital world, which suppresses you as a human being. In spite of all the conveniences, modern technology is completely distracting for humans and young people particularly, from each other, leaving them sometimes completely soulless creatures. This particular problem and concern made me think and create the whole concert of Theatrum Vitae which aims to return people to their real life values. What do you want Theatrum Vitae to achieve for people? Rafael Porzycki: My hope and belief is that Theatrum Vitae will strive to embrace people and the world for the better, if they really want this to happen, and, do we not deserve a better world? Cambodia The Kingdom of

by Anca Danut

The name of the country fits perfect the beauty and the mysticism of this place. I visited Cambodia as a part of my vacation last year. I was fascinated about the stories I heard about the temples, especially about Angkor Wat and all the pictures I have seen before, convinced me that it is a must visit place. You can reach Cambodia via Bangkok or via Phnom Pen, depending on where you are coming from. To enter the country you need a visa, that you can get on arrival. The price for the visa is 25 dollars. Cambodia offers a variety of places to spend your vacation, from luxurious resorts to small nice affordable hotels The general atmosphere I felt in Siem Reap, is one of poverty, but the place has a peaceful atmosphere and it is 76 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

animated by all the tourists that come there more and more every year. A famous street full of restaurants and clubs it is the place to go if you want to try the local cuisine or the international one or if you want to mix with the locals and foreigners. The street is very much alive and there is a great variety of restaurants, coffee shops, bars and clubs, for all tastes. The food offer is generous, but is good to pay attention at what you eat. For me, the local food was extremely spicy so, after a big stomach ache, I choose only the places where I could eat dishes without any spices. Their local food is based on noodles, rice, dumplings, salads, braised pork, chicken or beef, with different spices and sauce and many types of hot pots. You can try their national dish which is Samlor Kako, a soup with vegetables and their local spice Prahok. They also have a big variety deserts, from Num Pia(traditional in Siam Reap), Num Kroch(orange

cake), Num Kong(bracelet cake), Num Pong(egg cake) and waffells and donuts with different flavours. The night life in Siem Reap is very similar with the one in Saigon or Bangkok, where people like to party more on the street than inside. There is a big mix of tourists from all the corners on the world and everyone enjoys fully what this place has to offer. Cambodia also offers a variety of outdoor activities for its tourists. You can go for jungle trek in the semi evergreen dry forest in Kaoh Piek, the southern of Virakchey National Park or you can choose a day trek in the Kirirom national park. Here you will see the real life of the local people in the countryside, you will hike and explore bat caves, pine forest, admire some beautiful watterfalls and enjoy stunning views across to the Cardamom Mountain. You can also choose to do horseback riding, kayaking, fishing, zip lining, depending on your tastes and on the time you have available for this kind of activities.

The most beautiful part of Cambodgia, the one that keeps the tourist industry and the economy alive, is the temples area. The temples seem from another dimension. The feelings they give you, when you see them and when you step inside of them, are unique. They make you feel that you have reached a different dimension, charged with mistery, antique, mysticism and history. The most beautiful and the most impressive of them all is Ankor Wat, one of the largest religious monuments in the world and also a UNESCO World Heritage since 1992. The temple is a powerful symbol of Cambodia, appearing on it’s national flag. Ankor Wat means ‘’temple city’’ and initially was constructed as a Hindu temple, dedicated to the god Vishnu. In time, was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple, towards the end of the 12th century. The temple is a combination of two basic plans of Khemer Temple architecture and it is designed to represent Mount Meru, home of the gods in Hindu mythology.

The legend says it is believed that the temple was built in a single night by a divine architect. You ca find monks walking in some parts of the temple. Some of them do blessing ceremonies, offering you a bracelet with a colour you choose and wearing it, will bring you luck and protection in your journey through life. The view of the temple mirroring in the lake is breathtaking. The gardens, the towers, everything makes you go back in time and feel the vibe and the life that place use to have. Every brick, every wall, every stair, tells you a story, form a far away and forgotten kingdom, which was once full of people who were doing magic things here. Other temples I visited are located in Siem Reap and are Bayon, Banteay Sre, Preah Khan, Phnom Bakheng, Banteay Samre, Thommanon, East Mabo and Neak Pean. Each and every one of them has its story and its beauty. Another temple that is a must visit is the Fertility temple, who

is impressive by its vibe. You can still hear the laughter of the women who once lived there, you can still hear them chanting and you can feel their pain from the moment their tribe was divided. Listening the stories from the walls and seeing the greatness of each temple, makes you realize what a special place was the Kingdom of Cambodia and what a special place still is. The temples, helped by the the mercy of the Gods, manage to fight winters, summers and centuries, defeating time and remaining solid, so they can tell us their stories, generation after generation.

BÁRBARA ISASI

Music runs through my veins. My whole life is based on music and love. I started singing when I was very little. My dad is Cuban, my mommy is Spanish and music has always been very present in our home. I used to be chosen among the kids from my school to sing and dance at the theatre plays, Christmas parties and all that kind of stuff. I loved doing it! I remember me begging my mom to take me to every casting of every possible talent TV show. My mommy didn’t take me so serious and preferred to keep me focused on my studies. I was a very good student, but my passion for music was still vibrating and the voice inside my head was telling me I needed to do something about it. That’s when I decided to go to different talent TV shows. It was very hard at the beginning. I had a huge break-down when I was 18 years old, because I didn’t pass the last phase of a very important casting in Madrid, where I was born. I took that really serious. Even though that was a hard period in my life I decided to move on and keep trying. That’s when I passed my auditions for The Voice in Spain. It was one of the best experiences of my life. My first time on a real stage was a moment I will never forget. I still get the goose-bumps when I remember it! From then on, everything went all the way up. I got to sing in some clubs in Madrid, but I didn’t have much experience. I had never taken singing or voice lessons. I didn’t

have any technique or knowledge, but life put Denisa on my way. Deni and I met in a job which took place in India. She moved from Romania to Spain a lot of years ago and she had seen me at The Voice of Spain on the TV. We connected with each other from the very first moment and she told me that her parents were friends with the former manager of the very wellknown Romanian band, MANDINGA. So she introduced me to him, and he introduced me to the components of the band in Romania. They were in a moment of transition looking for a new lead singer and they chose me! Everything was very fast from that moment. I moved to Romania to start my preparation for being the lead singer of a high-experienced band. “My first year out of my country was very hard but now I can say it was all worth it. I’m so lucky that life gave this chance to work with MANDINGA, they helped me very much for my adaptation to be easier and I’ve learnt so many stuff thanks to them. “ We make urban latin music, playing genres like reggeaton, salsa and trap latino. So far, we are very happy with what’s going on , our salsa versions, which can be found in all the digital platforms have already millions of views on youtube, and our most recent single “Soy de Cuba”, which was filmed in Cuba by Alex Volintiru is near the one million views.

We also had the chance to perform at the festival “ El Carrusel” , where other top artists like Maluma, Luis Fonsi or Juan Magan performed too. We felt great and enjoyed that moment to the maximum! You can find us on Instagram, facebook and youtube as @mandingaofficial and me as @barbara.isasi ! We have all our material there too. I participated at The Voice of Romania, which was a very nice experience and also at the famous TV SHOW “Your face sounds familiar” in Romania, where I won the last season! I’m very thankful for giving me that opportunity! I learnt a lot, I gained a lot more experience on stage and it was un unforgettable moment! Now, near plans with Mandinga, are releasing our next single, “ Provocador ” which was also filmed in Cuba by Alex Volintiru. We are also preparing new salsa versions and we have big surprises, but I can’t tell yet! I’m in a very good moment of my life , I met the love of my life in Romania too so I can say that I’m very thankful for everything that’s happening to me. Even though I went through tough moments and I still do sometimes, because showbizz is no joke, I always try to keep, no matter what, a positive attitude about everything. That’s they key, positivism, love and faith in what you do so you do it with pleasure, and as my daddy says “Pay attention to the signs!” Photo by Nistor Stefan

The modern woman

Is a scholar mixture of sensuality and strength, femininity and attitude. In a strange world, the only certainty remains the beauty, in its new, complex forms. The games of transparency and opacity, of denuding and simplicity, of solar and tellurium make the modern woman a different diva. More interesting, mysterious and attractive than everything that she’s ever been. She is smart - besides her exceptional physical characteristics - she is selfassured, assumed and with a clear and nuanced position about her place in the world, the meaning of existence and what she wants from the future. She is a conglomerate of a wellunderstood past, a fully assumed present and a targeted future, with all the optimised, personal arguments. She is, simultaneously: the artist, the feline and the urban Amazon. It is you, the woman next to us!

It happened to him as he entered the darkness of the studio where the three-dimensional session was being prepared. Singer

SASHA RAY Business owner and high rated influencer

Q: You are a famous singer, successful business owner and high rated influencer. How you succeed to manage all these ? A: Of course, it is far from easy, because in anything you do, if you take it serious and surrender it requires a lot of time and energy. Nevertheless, with a great motivation and desire, time can be found absolutely for everything. And what matters is that whatever I do in life is my passion. Businesses I do are my passion, Singing - is my passion, even being influencer and always looking good and stylish is my passion. So it’s absolutely not difficult to find motivation and have the energy for all of these. Nevertheless it is necessary to set priorities in planning your schedule, and often it happens that the time frame is stretched to much longer than we expect, but in fact in achieving the goal, what matters is not the speed, but consistency. Q: Your appearances on stage or events do not go unnoticed. Which accessories you can not give up? A: Thank you so much. Well yes, to be honest even in normal life I don’t like to be boringly dressed, for me being a woman, no matter what you do in life, means you always have to look amazing. Talking about accessories my taste is very minimalistic, I prefer classy elegant looks without overload of accessories. In daily life I don’t really wear rings, bracelets, necklaces etc. Cant live though without hoop earrings, from celebrity favorite jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher. Have them in all shapes and sizes so always have a pair matching any outfit. Well another accessory I use daily is LV scarves - love using them when I don’t feel like looking too official and wearing jacket, I have them in different colors as well. Q: Do you have a particular beauty product you never miss from your purse? A: Of course I do. If I am to choose one product that is always there - it’s a Bobby Brown lipstick pen in nude shade. The color of the lipstick is perfectly matching my skin color and the texture is amazing so that it doesn’t give neither way too matte look nor the lips are over moisturized. It is good for any occasion both for a daily life and for the night out.

Lots of my girlfriends got it in their purses too after seeing me wearing it. Q: You look gorgeous ! How do you keep yourself in shape ? A: Thank you! Well, for me it’s been always a challenge to stay in shape as I am a big time foodie and what’s even worse - I can’t live without sweets. So to avoid being extra strict with myself I have one rule - I eat sweets and all the bad carbs only in the first part of the day. Then the rest of the day I try to eat just fish, seafood and vegetables. Once a month I can eat meat. Also I find it very important to eliminate alcohol as much as you can in your life as it boosts your appetite and also has plenty of unnecessary calories. So I drink only on holidays or very special occasions and only wine or champagne. I do drink lots of green tea throughout a day - I start my day with green tea, drink it lunchtime and evening time as well. These are my diet principles, however I have couple more secrets that help me staying in shape. Of course it’s physical activity. I however get bored of any particular kind of activity that’s why I always combine different kinds - gym, dance classes and, when I need to get back in shape fast - EMS classes. And the palsy secret - i do Cryo sauna sessions. CRYO helps to boost metabolism and be able to burn more calories. Apart from weight loss benefits it has plenty of other health benefits as well . Q: Your skin is perfect. How do you do it? Tell us your secrets! A: Unfortunately I’m not the lucky one who has genetically flawless skin. It took me many years to figure out which products to use and which treatments are good for my skin. I’ve been always having lots of imperfections and tried lots lots of different lasers and peelings to better the condition of my skin. Today my top treatments are Picosure laser - it helps eliminate the breakouts, minimize pores and tightens skin very well. In between lasers I do Plazmolifting - to revitalize and speed up after laser regeneration. I’ve also recently discovered another less invasive treatment which I also do in between my laser treatments - it is PRX T peeling, it is also very effective for getting smooth flawless skin effect. Q: Would you play in a movie ? If yes, which character would you preffer ?

A: I’ve been always dreaming to take part in dance show or to act in a dance movie. Not everyone knows that I’ve been doing ballroom dancing for 7 years and passion for dancing has stayed with me for a lifetime. I would definitely take JLO role in Shall we dance movie with Richard Gere or Dirty Dancing, or even Step Up. Q: Tell us more about your new projects, what’s coming ? A: To be honest I don’t like revealing my plans a lot as many times it happens that when I reveal my plans at the very initial stage - they crash. But one thing I can confirm for sure - that yes besides my current occupation with restaurant, travel company & music I plan to expand in other industries and even in new countries. Q: What is something people would be surprised to know about you? A: When I was young I was extremely shy person and was totally scared to perform in public and in front of the audience. In my school years it was one of the scariest things - to give a speech in public. Dealing with this fear was one of the reasons why I started a singing career. I had to take private acting classes to deal with it and before my first my performance on stage I had a shot of Hennessy to make me feel more relaxed and brave. Q: What is the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? A: Depends adventurous in which area. Talking about adventurous sports I’ve done bungee jump in Spain and skydiving in Dubai over the palm island, however I still would like to do diving with sharks. Talking about adventurous for me personally - starting things that I has never been good before were most adventurous things to do in my life - both starting singing without being able to pitch a single note correctly, and starting my own business in the new country, where I hardly knew anyone. Q: Where is your inspiration coming from ? A: Literally from everywhere - from travel, meeting new interesting people, attending events and concerts, watching interesting and impressive movies. But definitely most of my inspiration comes from travel and discovering new places.

VERENA fashion & beauty MANDRAGORA Verena Mandragora is a fashion & beauty photographer based in Munich, Germany. Born in Vienna, Austria, she moved to Bavaria after a longer stay in Switzerland. However, she describes herself as word citizen. Influenced by her studies in theatre, film, media and art history she is focused on people and their different faces. Inspired by any type of (hi)story, design and various life performances one can not only find connections to classic poetry in her work, but links to contemporary art like movies and music as well. Working within a creative team is essential for her and one of the biggest benefits of fashion photography: There is always more than one opinion about a photo influenced by the personal experience of the single viewer. http://mandragora.at/ https://www.instagram.com/ verenamandragora/?hl=de TEAM PHOTOGRAPHY: Verena Mandragora https://www.instagram.com/verenamandragora/ PHOTO ASSISTANT: Stefan Schaaf STYLING: Katharina Theresia Schuerf https://www.instagram.com/katiekolumna/ MAKE UP: Felicia Boettcher https://www.instagram.com/up2felicia/ MODEL: Pauline @ Pars Management https://www.instagram.com/paulinesclr/ https://www.instagram.com/parsmanagement/ WARDROBE: Mode Moosbrugger https://www.instagram.com/modemoosbrugger/ POSTPRODUCTION: Mareike Keicher https://www.instagram.com/mareikekeicher/ 102 | britishTHOUGHTS.uk

The stylist

Manuela Mezzetti Being a fashion stylist is more than a profession. It's passion! I love fashion, clothes and the beauty I can create through them! Every dress has its heart, a story I like to find and tell through my work. I started working as a model for well-known fashion agencies and designers and then I turned into a fashion stylist and art director. Since 1996 I am the owner of the Freelance Fashion Agency, where I share passion and goals with a group of professionals. We work with renowned fashion photographers, with whom we create advertising campaigns and fashion editorials for national and international magazines. I don't restrict myself to one unique genre, since my look loves to evolve and stretch from a mood to another. I love Italy and our worldwide identifiable, outstanding style, our taste, our culture, elegance and attention to detail. I like a styling which isn't creativity as an end in itself, but also the expression of art, history and personalities. In 2016 I started the blog "My White Box", a virtual place where a team of creative talents offer their ideas and updates on fashion, style, make-up and trends. Teaching Fashion Styling and Art Direction at the Fashion School "Moodart" in Verona has allowed me to pass on my knowledge to young minds, and I am proud to see that some of them have grown, ending up being a fundamental part of my winning team.

editorial mood story SARDINIA: A SEA OF COLORS Sardinia was my fall destination, an island of history and extraordinary beauty. I had the pleasure to shoot an editorial with the photographer Federico Gaudino who showed me wonderful landscapes. I was impressed by the incredible nature’s colors sparkling in the sunlight and creating perfect settings for our photo shots.

SARDINIA: A WHOLE LAND TO DISCOVER I firmly believe in promoting our Country. There are many wonders in Italy and I think it’s important to illustrate them. An art director has the power to choose the imaginaries where to set their stories and Italy is full of magical places and inspirations. So, for this editorial, I decided to move to Sardinia, a land that thought I visited little I was sure would amaze me. And so it did! Federico Gaudino knows very well his land and this has allowed us, in a single day, to take a tour of some of the most beautiful locations in southern Sardinia. We have traveled the hinterland by car; passing through quaint villages and lush Mediterranean vegetation you get to beaches embraced by an emerald blue sea, that leaves you breathless. We took some pictures for the editorial in Villasimius, a really fascinating beach with rocks that seem to be carved by wind and water. The model wore large clothes to be able to move almost dancing, on the rocks, to the rhythm of the wind. Sometimes she would even look like a bird that lets herself in the airstream. She would often lie between rocky ravines as if they were a protection to her, as if they were a house to take care of.

SARDINIA: POISED BETWEEN TWO EXTREMES From Federico Gaudino: “Instead of conforming the images, I preferred to express the unpredictable and wild nature of Sardinia. In my opinion it’s the very essence of this land that hovers between the extremes. Fantastic sea, yacht tourism, but also and above all mountains and wild places populated by tough people, accustomed to having little, but with a big heart. A sort of yin and yang that I represented in the photos with the contrast between color and darkness. I tried to work following my vision of Sardinia and represent this dualism by exploiting the weather changes that are always very sudden here.” In fact, the weather changed continuously throughout the day; the sky was clear and the sea was calm, but then suddenly the clouds gathered and, in the sea, there was the storm. This weather change, despite taking away some of nature’s colors, created a fascinating atmosphere that allowed us to tell a story: a story about freedom.

Yve Adore

“My focus is on fashion and beauty” About me

Hey, I’ m Yve Adore (my real name is Yvonne Wiegand) Photographer from Germany, currently placed in Wiesbaden. I came to photography through the passion for creativity. I already loved fashion magazines as a little girl and was fascinated by the many wonderful editorials. My focus is on fashion and beauty. I like simple but above all creative projects with expression. I would say I am not a technical photographer. I go more to the composition, colors and light. It is very important to me to have a great atmosphere on the set and I feel most comfortable with motivated people. Then there is usually no end, because we often have new ideas during the shoot.

dadaTHIS THE GREATEST GALLERY IN THE WORLD

Instagram today is the single biggest arena for art and artist exposure. Just the hashtag #art will give you 467 000 000 (and counting..) pictures to choose from. Indeed the greatest artgallery ever known to man. And it’s a people’s gallery! Highend or lowend you can find them right there in your smarthphone. Never before in the history of man can you, as an artist, gallerist or agent, find diamonds in the rough, connect with anyone anywhere or just find inspiration in any corner of the world. I know for a fact that my workflow and career-moves have been made easy by this gigantic plattform. Two, three clicks away and suddenly Im in China totally swept away by an artist that would have taken me years to discover in the preInsta world. In some cases, if things work out, I have new connection and a new artist to manage two/three days later. But you have to know your way around, cause at times half a billion pictures becomes overwhelming. As a buyer its much easier just to follow the serious art dealers or art advisors. The work, the knowledge, the passion and the vision of these people still has to be on point, just as before Insta, but obstacles that was self-evident before can look quite different today. Back in the 1980s Keith Haring took

the New York City art scene by storm with his drawings appearing on the wall of hundreds of subway stations. It was free then, as Instagram is today. But for Tony Shafrazi who discovered Haring and his artful expression on the walls back then, would Instagram made a difference? Or was it just the fact that Keiths art was in your face in a otherwise mundane and boring place? There were no other places or media for Tony to actually discover it, than in real life. The energy, the output, everything where the artist intended it to be. As Tony put in a correspondence: "Nothing ever rehearsed, no line ever traced or copied from a projected image however complex or large. Never any fear of a mistake. Never a mistake and to top it all the most generous artist I have ever know, and I bet I have known more than ... Keith is with me every day Danial" - Tony Shafrazi (Private note) So the limit is no longer the sky. The limit is a complete Internet breakdown. But great art will always be great art no matter the forum. //Danial Mergan Art Historian, Artist Manager IG: @1Danial
