Design Proposal Our design is meant to be bold. It is large to make more of an impact and easily readable from a distance. We wanted it to be in your face and get straight to the point. There should be no confusion about the meaning or what it represents. The inspiration for our idea is the students and experience of the Kansas City Art Institute. We wanted to describe everything that embodies the spirit of the school and the community of artists. The words chosen are what we feel that students develop over the time spent at the school and how they help us to grow as artists. Our topiaries represent this growing as well as the words chosen.
Design Problem: develop a 3 dimension design that embodies the essence of the KCAI and serves as a “site identifier for the school.
Site Context: the site chosen is on the east side of campus. This location was chosen because it is currently pretty empty and does not identify our campus to the passing public.
Materials:
Chicken Wire Evergreen Topiary
Start with a piece of chicken wire long enough to create the size word you want. Shape the wire into your word, leaving an equal length of wire at each end. Twist the ends of the wire together to create a straight support that’s the same length as the width of the word you want to use for your plant. Bend the ends of the wire to form a base to support the frame of your word.
