Since it’s creation in the 19th century, the fashion industry has substantially evolved and has gained a greater role in the everyday lives of society through the means of personal style. Suiting Ourselves: Women Professors Using Clothes to Signal Authority, Belonging and Personal Style, discuss the topic of Style being used as a tool of reference for identity. The article infers that personal style is a form of self-identification/expression through sartorial decisions specific to the wearer. In Paris, the fashion capital of the world, the city’s innate sense of self often leads to a truly distinct and authentic form of sartorial expression. This is not limited to the mainstream European community. The Paris Noir program explores many aspects of self-discovery, identity, and expression within the Black community here in Paris and as it relates to that of the African-American Expatriate community. While the program often touches on these subjects, it scarcely dives into how these ident
