Brian Dickinson HEAD COACH
Since 1996, Brian Dickinson has been leading The College at Brockport men’s ice hockey team and has consistently landed the Golden Eagles among the leaders in the conference. Dickinson came to Brockport after three seasons as the head coach of Buffalo State and five seasons as the lead assistant to Jeff Meredith at Fredonia. Dickinson was also an assistant at North Adams State for the 1987-88 season. At the end of his first season at the helm, Brockport was ranked in the NCAA top 30 in scoring offense (109 goals, 4.04 goals per game). The Golden Eagles also were ranked in the top 20 in power play percentage (31 goals on 133 attempts, .233 percentage). Dickinson guided Brockport to an 8-17-1 overall record and 4-9-1 SUNYAC mark. After the season, Dickinson earned his first SUNYAC Coach of the Year hardware. In his five years as an assistant with the Blue Devils, Dickinson was the main recruiter for the program and brought in several of the players responsible for leading Fredonia to the national championship game at the conclusion of the 1994-95 season. In addition to coaching the varsity hockey team, Dickinson oversees the day-to-day operations of the Tuttle North Ice Arena, including the supervision of a staff of approximately 25 student workers.
Coaching Staff Kris Horn ASSISTANT COACH
Kris Horn joined The College at Brockport ice hockey coaching staff in the fall of 2016 as an assistant coach. Prior to joining the Golden Eagle staff, Horn spent one season with Division I Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., helping the Dutchman reach the ECAC postseason tournament. Horn spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach at Hamilton College. Prior to joining the Continentals, Horn was an assistant coach for American Collegiate Hockey Association teams at Oakland University, the University of Massachusetts and Michigan State University. Horn has earned a USA Hockey Level 5 coaching certificate. A Westland, Michigan native, Horn attended Culver Military Academy before moving on to Michigan State, where he received a B.A. in Marketing in 2006.
Meet the Captains Aidan Verbeke While Aidan Verbeke only finished the season with five goals, the majority of his points (22) came from his 17 assists on the season, good for third on the team. In an 8-7 win over Morrisville, he finished the game with one point and two assists to help lead the Golden Eagles. Prior to playing for the Golden Eagles, Verbeke played for Fenwick High School. He also played for the Granite City Lumberjacks of the NA3HL and recorded 24 goals and 35 assists throughout 47 games during the 2013-14 season.
Rob Hall The senior defenseman has tabbed 19 points throughout his career, consisting of six goals and 13 assists. Hall scored his first career goal against Manhattanville College on Nov. 30. Prior to Brockport, Hall attended Schaumburg High School in Schaumburg, Ill. and played for the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 2010, Hall was a U18 AAA National Champion. The son of Michelle and Jim Hall, Rob has two siblings Joe and Jeremy. He is pursuing a degree in Sport Management and Kinesiology/Sport Science/Physical Education.
Dylan Shapiro Dylan Shapiro has appeared in 60 games for the Golden Eagles and has recorded 25 points off of 13 goals and 12 assists. In his sophomore season, Shapiro tabbed a career-high seven goals and seven assists. Prior to joining the Golden Eagles, Shapiro attended Penfield High School and played for the Rochester Junior Americans of the United States Premier Hockey League Elite. He was named a USPHL Elite All-Star in the 2013-14 season after recording 18 goals and 25 assists in 39 games. The son of Ron Shapiro, Dylan has four siblings Casey, Andrea, Mike and Jake. Dylan is obtaining a degree in Nursing.
Tuttle North Ice Arena The College at Brockport’s ice hockey team calls the Tuttle North Ice Arena home. Built in the early 1970s, Tuttle North Ice Arena seats 2,000 for the Green and Gold’s home hockey games. With great seats putting fans close to the action, Tuttle North Ice Arena is known for its electric atmosphere. Brockport has twice hosted State University of New York Athletic Conference postseason games at Tuttle North Ice Arena, in 2008 and 2009, and with a hand from the supportive Brockport faithful, the Golden Eagles won both those playoff contests.
NCAA Division III Athletics The College at Brockport men’s ice hockey team is a member of the NCAA Division III and plays in the State University of New York Athletic Conference. For 20 years now head coach Brian Dickinson has been keeping the Golden Eagles a fixture among the top teams in the conference and even a national championship competitor. Dickinson has coached a number of SUNAYC all-players and most recently the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in Tim Kielich and on numerous occasions helped get the green and gold into the national rankings against one of the toughest conferences in Division III hockey. With a high emphasis on recruiting, Dickinson collects players from all sorts of teams and even Canadian born players. Most recently the team finished with an 11-11-4 record making it into the SUNYAC playoffs where they lost in the first round to SUNY Oswego.
Athletic Training Room Six full-time staff members with Athletic Training Certifications offer 90 combined years of experience in athletic training. The team provides comprehensive care to our student-athletes through the use of the latest technology in therapeutic modalities as well as innovative functional assessment and rehabilitation techniques. Our Athletic Training Room provides student-athletes the benefit of high quality rehabilitation and physical training equipment. The facility has five taping tables, 13 treatment tables, three exercise bikes, one elliptical machine, one stair climber as well as a whirlpool machine.
Bill Steele Athletic Performance Weight Room It’s not a fitness center. It’s an athletic performance training facility, where Golden Eagle athletes prepare for their competitors through a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning program. Athletes will be able to push their bodies to maximize their athletic talents using the College’s high-speed treadmills, TRX trainers, kettlebells, inlaid Olympic platforms, free-motion functional trainers, VertiMax platforms, Elitefts Colligate power racks, speed and power sleds, an Ariel Computerized Exercise System (ACES) machine, and much more. All of our athletes train under the watch of experienced instructors.
the SERC Opened in 2012, the Special Events Recreation Center, a state-of-the-art facility, is a 138,000 square foot three-story building that serves as the home for Campus Recreation and the Golden Eagle Track and Field Program. In addition to serving as a venue for major campus events, the SERC—which consists of a dynamic fitness center and the impressive Field House—equips students with all the tools necessary to stay physically fit. Whether you’re interested in weight lifting, cardio, taking a Zumba class, working with a personal trainer or going for a run on the track, the SERC can help you reach all your fitness goals.
Residence Halls Living on campus at Brockport means more than just a place to sleep. The college residential experience serves as the foundation for developing friendships that last a lifetime. Our vibrant and safe living-learning environment helps students become successful members of our campus community. A resident director (RD) and a staff resident assistant (RA) provide leadership for each residence hall community. RDs and RAs are excellent sources of information and will help students make decisions, support students in developing responsibility and concern for others, and assist in acquiring a plan for academic success.
Dining Halls Students have many options when it comes to dining and meal plans. The College’s dining services are regularly ranked high within the SUNY system. Meal plans are designed to provide variety, flexibility and plenty of healthy dining options. Our diversified menus include vegan, vegetarian, and ethnic entrees, allowing students to enjoy their favorite foods and expand their palates. The two main dining halls, Brockway and Harrison, feature a wide selection of food stations and made-to-order choices. In addition to the two main dining halls, there are a number of cafÊs, late-night spots, and retail locations that offer a variety of meal options throughout the day.
Drake Memorial Library Drake Memorial Library houses nearly a half million items, plus online databases, research guides, the College Archives and more. It includes multiple computer labs and meeting/study rooms, enhancing the learning experience with audio, video, graphic, and web-based content. The library provides opportunities for 3D printing/scanning in the Makerspace and has a variety of tech tools available for loan. Librarians offer in-person as well as online research assistance and consultation. And, if you need a little caffeine for your study session, the Aerie CafĂŠ provides coffee and a varying menu to satisfy your cravings.
