NOMEX® IIIA Superior thermal protection is assured with apparel and accessories manufactured with Nomex®. Garments made of Nomex® are inherently flame-resistant and won’t melt, drip or support combustion in the air. And, the thermal protection offered by Nomex® is permanent — its superior flame resistance cannot be washed out or worn away. A key factor in the thermal protection Nomex® provides is that it carbonizes and thickens when exposed to the intense heat of today’s fires. This increases the protective barrier between the heat source and the skin and minimizes burn injury. This tough, protective barrier stays supple and flexible until it cools, which gives you valuable extra seconds of protection when you need it most.

With superior flash fire protection, TenCate Tecasafe® Plus offers Coolderm™ Technology, an enhanced comfort experience. The scientists at TenCate Protective Fabrics USA developed an exceptional blend of fibers that provide Active Moisture Management. This moves moisture away from the wearer while generating an evaporative cooling effect in warmer environments - or regulating temperature in cooler climates. Tecasafe® Plus with Coolderm™ Technology is a hypoallergenic textile that’s extremely comfortable and easy to wear. The fabric arrives soft with ergonomic performance so there’s no break-in period, easy donning and doffing, and no chaffing or irritation during extended wear. Inherently flame-resistant (FR) so the protection comes “built in” and will never wash or wear out, Tecasafe® Plus with Coolderm™ Technology is engineered as a more durable and comfortable option to chemically treated wildland fabrics. With more than 15 million yards sold worldwide, TenCate Tecasafe® Plus with Coolderm™ Technology provides the protection, light weight and easy comfort that makes it ideal for even the harshest environments.

PBI TRIGUARD™ Inherently flame resistant, soft, lightweight and comfortable, PBI Triguard provides superior protection. PBI TriGuard™ fabric is a 3-fiber blend of PBI, 3Lenzing® FR and MicroTwaron™ that offers superior flame protection, outstanding comfort and unmatched durability. This advanced rip-stop blend fabric meets the demands of most any environment. PBI TriGuard™ fabric is easy to care for and maintain, making it the right choice for the work you do.

Our team will work with you to provide insight into the available options and their inherent benefits. APPS WLFF PPE garment system. The next generation of PPE is here! The DHS APPS (Advanced Personal Protection System) process was modified to develop the new WLFF PPE garment system. An Integrated Process Team (IPT) comprised of experienced wildland firefighters from the USFS and state, county, and city fire departments from California were selected to participate in the program. The IPT validated a risk assessment, defined operational requirements, and selected the materials for the PPE garment system. Greater thermal protection, a reduction in heat stress, and improved form fit and function of the PPE garment system was the result of this assessment. The new APPS WLFF PPE not only can reduce heat injury rates, but should also increase the operational effectiveness of the wildland firefighter.

Gen II Response Jacket Certified to NFPA 1977 The Gen II Response Jacket answers the requirements of the DHS, IPT committee and Natick’s request for a single layer wildland fire fighting garment system with greatly improved performance. Exceeds the NFPA’s 1977 minimum requirements for thermal protection and breathability, This garment provides enhanced safety features with superior comfort. Back expansion pleats and double pleated articulated elbows allow for increased mobility. Current NFPA minimum requirements for RPP is 7, the Gen II Response Jacket is rated at 11.5. THL current minimum is 450 W/m2, Response Jacket is rated 752 W/m2. This single-layer APPS WLFF PPE garment will reduce the rate of core body temperature rise and significantly increase work durations when compared to double-layer WLFF PPE configurations. Reducing the rate of core body temperature rise, translates to fewer heat stress injuries. Sigma® | Yellow | WLS0772 Also available in S362/S469 Nomex | Yellow | CFC0222

M-Pac The landscape of wildland fire is changing and with that the daily job of a wildland firefighter has become even more varied. With this in mind, CrewBoss created the M-Pac. This modular pack is designed to bring all your gear to the fire ground, and give you the ultimate flexibility in what you take with you throughout the day. GEAR 37

Blackburn Pack The life of a firefighter is rigorous and demanding. Hiking up hazardous terrain, heading into a fire, and spiking out can be tough on you and your gear. Although the Blackburn Pack has just been released to the market, it is anything but new. It has been rigorously tested by some of the toughest crews we know to insure that it can stand up to any assignment. Our R&D guys not only tested for toughness but they listened to type one testing crews, incorporating many style and design choices that directly benefit the wearer. This pack is engineered to make the demands of the job easier. • PALS webbing on shoulder straps and front of the pack provides attachment points for additional gear. • Jump harness straps are included for aviation operations or as a attachment points for additional gear. • Side compression straps secure internal contents and bring the pack weight closer to the back • Shoulder harness strap design allows for lower distribution of pack weight on various torso heights. • Fire shelter integrated into the pack to prevent swinging, loss, or component failure while compression straps prevent fire shelter from coming into contact with wearer’s back. • Back wall design allows wearer to stow shoulder and waist harnesses behind the back padding or use hook and loop ends to gather excess strap • Zippers and pull tabs in red for quick identification of pockets. There’s so much I enjoy about working at CrewBoss. I get to be creative, meet interesting people, and learn new things every day. I’m proud that our products, from the raw goods to the finished piece, are all American made and that the first responders who wear them have the highest quality gear on the market.

David Updike

David Updike is the Deputy Forest Fire Chief for the United States Forest Service at the Plumas National Forest. He began his Fire Service career in wildland firefighting at the Mountains Recreation Conservancy Authority in southern California, where he established and built the agency’s fire division with 40 apparatus and full-time and seasonal employees. After his 19-year career there, serving as the Fire Chief for the last 9 years, Chief Updike decided it was time for new challenges and moved to Quincy, California, to accept a position with the Forest Service. He holds numerous incident qualifications and enjoys the dynamics and hard work experienced during on-scene operations. CrewBoss garments will perform at their best when dried in the tumble low setting. Although some fibers are less likely to shrink than others, this helps reduce the risk of potential shrinkage to the garment.

Do not use any fabric softeners. Keep out of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Dry cleaning is not recommended as the process may damage reflective trim.
