A Trip to Twickenham and a Royal Party for Finstall First School children On Friday June 10, children at Finstall First School, Bromsgrove, enjoyed a traditional street party to celebrate The Queen’s 90th Birthday.
The children were provided with a small piece of birthday cake and a drink and took part in a “toast” to Her Majesty. They then sang the National Anthem and made Union Jack flags and bunting. They were also provided with a kit to make a Union Jack kite, which they were able to fly at School and then take home. For a voluntary contribution of £1, the children wore their own red, white and blue clothes. Some of the money raised was donated to The Queenʼs own charity, The
Patronʼs Fund and the Worcestershire Community Foundation. Holly Holdstock, age 9, said "It was great fun celebrating the Queenʼs birthday", while nine year old Isaac Coleman asked “Who will give the Queen a letter when she is 100?”
In May, Year 4 children from the School won the Sport Relief Tag Rugby tournament at Bromsgrove RFC, beating St Andrewʼs First School in the Final. Following this, having managed to avoid each other in the league stages and semi-finals, Finstall A drew with Finstall B in the county-wide Tag Rugby tournament Final held at Worcester Warriors RFC. The prize was for 10 children from Finstall to play a demonstration match against another UK school during half time at Twickenham, at the Aviva Premiership Play-off Final on May 28, in front of 85,000 spectators!

Celebrating the Life of Michael Thompson at Fundraising Event Around 400 people attended a special fundraising event at LG Harris and Co, on Saturday June 11. The day was organised by colleagues and friends in memory of Michael Thompson, a longstanding employee who passed away in March. The family fun day, held in the grounds of LG Harris and Co, in Stoke Prior, generated almost £4000 for Brake - a road safety charity - and the Midlands Air Ambulance. Stalls and games included a five-a-side football tournament, face painting, a bouncy castle, a raffle, an auction and cake stall. Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service showed people around the inside and outside of a fire engine.Ice-creams and a barbecue provided refreshments on what turned out to be a pleasant, warm afternoon despite the day starting with rain.
During a moving ceremony with Michaelʼs family, a memorial bench was unveiled to provide a lasting reminder of his life and contribution to LG Harris. Pauline Gerrard, from the organising team said: “The bench was purchased with money raised by directors and staff and it will be sited pride of place at the front of the head office building.”

Business Owners Gather at The Best of Bromsgrove Members Night Representatives from a variety of Bromsgrove businesses gathered together on Thursday June 9, for the latest The Best of Bromsgrove ‘Meet the Members’ night.
“It was a lovely night and we had a great time,” says Wendy Amos, Chapters Hair.
The bi-monthly members events are always well attended and provide an excellent opportunity for local buinesses to network with other businesses, in an informal environment. Hosted by Lyndon Stokes, owner of The Best of Bromsgrove, the June event took place at the new Potting Shed Café, at Singletons Nurseries, Lydiate Ash. Guests gathered outside on the terrace for drinks, on what was a lovely sunny evening. This was followed by a three-course meal, expertly prepared by Chef Karen and her team.

Coughton Court FREE Entry to Summer Fête & Gardens
Coughton Court, situated on the main road between Studley and Alcester, is offering free entry to its fête and gardens on Saturday July 9, from 12 noon until 4pm.
Members of the public can also enter the Miniature Garden competition. Either take along your own mini garden or create your own masterpiece on the day!
There will be a Grand Opening of the fête at 12 noon with Magnus Birch, grandson to Mrs Clare McLaren-Throckmorton. Stalls will include a tombola, games, face painting, local produce, cakes and much more. Cupitt Jeweller in Bromsgrove Celebrates its 70th Anniversary Customers, family and civic dignitaries gathered at Cupitt Jewellers in Bromsgrove on June 6, to help staff celebrate the shop’s Platinum anniversary. Guests enjoyed champagne and canapés before watching a specially produced film which chronicled the history of the family run business and highlighted some of the key moments since it was established in 1946. Award-winning gemologist Helen Dimmick then delivered a fascinating presentation about diamonds. A charity raffle raised £180 which has been donated to the Motor Neuron Disease Association.

Civic dignitaries, customers and representatives from the local business community gathered together on May 26, to celebrate the arrival of a new company in Bromsgrove – Versatility in Print (VIP). VIP originally opened in Droitwich in 2003 to meet the design and print needs of customers across the region. However, due to the success of the business, owner David Chill recognised the need to move to larger premises, which would enable future expansion and a more professional office environment. He was keen to move to the Bromsgrove area because of the townʼs close proximity to the Midlands motorway network. He also felt there was a gap in the marketplace for some of the specialist printing services offered
The family run business offers graphic design, digital printing, hot foil print, vinyl banners and pop-up banners. David Chill is also managing director of Ribbon Writer, the UKʼs leading supplier of ribbon printing machines and accessories. Guests at the launch were entertained by local artist Cathy Simpson, who sketched caricature cartoons which were then enlarged and printed out for people to take home. Staff demonstrated how the hot foil machine worked by producing gold foil VIP branded key fobs for the guests to also take away. “It was wonderful to welcome a new business to the town,”
said Cllr Malcolm Glass, Vice Chair of Bromsgrove District Council.

Parkrun fun at Hanbury Hall Starting in July 2016
Every Saturday at 9am from July 2, runners can take part in the 5k course at Hanbury Hall, which includes a mixture of trail paths and grass around the historic site, gardens and surrounding area. The course is free but in order to receive a completion time each week, runners are required to register. Health Intervention Officer, Hayley Gwilliam, said: “Parkrun is designed for people of all running abilities who want to practise and improve using a structured route.
It doesnʼt matter how fast you are, when you use park run youʼre challenging and competing against yourself by getting a run time each time you complete the course.” Parkrun at Hanbury Hall is being supported by Bromsgrove District Councilʼs Sports Development Team.
