Health
Stay Safe in the Sun By Alison Runham www.alison.runham.co.uk
‘Lobster’ arms. Heat exhaustion. It seems that despite the publicity, we’re still not getting the sun protection message – and we’re risking serious health issues. Protecting Your Skin “A tan is actually a sign that the skin has been damaged and is trying to protect itself,” warns the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD). Your body is desperately producing brown melanin to protect itself from further UV damage. UV damage can lead to skin cancer. While we need a little outdoor sunshine to maintain our Vitamin D levels, we should limit our exposure by: • strongest (usually 11am - 3pm from March to October in the UK); • covering our skin (remembering that UV light will penetrate some fabrics); • choosing a suitable sunscreen and using it properly. choosing Sunscreen UVA protection is rated up to 5 stars. The SPF (sun protection factor) refers to UVB, ranging from 2 (lowest protection) to 50+.
Choose sunscreen with both UVA protection (at least fourstar) and UVB protection (with an SPF of at least 30). using Sunscreen Sun cream is only as effective
as its application, so: • Apply liberally. Apply at least two teaspoons of sunscreen to cover the head, arms and neck and two tablespoons for the entire body while wearing a swimming costume. • Apply frequently. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before, and again just before, going out – then at least every two hours afterwards. Also apply it straight after you’ve been in water, even if it’s ‘waterresistant’. • Don’t use expired sunscreen (or in date sunscreen that’s been left in direct sunlight or got hot). remember: • Water can increase the sun’s radiation by 5%, and sand by 17%. • The sensitive skin of babies and children needs extra protection. Keep children under 6 months out of strong sunlight completely. • Take extra care if you have: ► pale, white or light brown skin; ► freckles or red or fair hair; ► many moles (look out for new moles and changes to existing moles, freckles or skin patches); ► skin problems relating to a medical condition; ► a family history of skin cancer; ► a tendency to burn rather than tan; ► only occasional exposure to intense sun (e.g. holidays) or are in a hot country with particularly intense sun; treating Sunburn Apply plenty of cold water, then a soothing product (e.g. after
sun or calamine lotion). An antiseptic cream containing a local anaesthetic can help, as can basic painkillers. If you feel unwell or your skin swells badly or blisters, seek medical help. Avoid the sun until all redness has gone. Protecting Your eYeS UV light damages eyes too, so: • As soon as they’re old enough, teach children never to look at the sun. • Ensure everyone wears sunglasses that protect against UVA and UVB and carry the CE Mark. Heatstroke Symptoms can include headache, dizziness, confusion, appetite loss, feeling sick, excessive sweating, pale clammy skin, cramps, fast breathing or pulse, a temperature of 37C or above and intense thirst. If someone is suffering from heatstroke, lie them down in the shade, raise their feet, offer cold drinks and remove unnecessary clothing. Call 999 if they’re no better after 30 minutes or if symptoms worsen. To avoid heatstroke, stay hydrated, keep your head covered and rest in the shade when the sun is hottest. useful links: The Cancer Research UK tool to assess skin type and burn risk: www.cancerresearchuk. org/about-cancer/causes-ofcancer/sun-uv-and-cancer/am-iat-risk-of-sunburn The NHS mole assessment tool: www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/ moleassessment.aspx

DIY Shop Supporting the Local Community The Basement Project is Broad Street DIYʼs selected charity for 2017 and staff are always looking at new ways to fundraise. On 3 June the shop held a charity BBQ event in its landscaping yard on Factory Lane in Bromsgrove. [L-R] Jackie Hooper (The Basement Project), Hayley Warren and Lisa Childs
Broad Street DIY in Bromsgrove held its fourth DIY Ladies Night event in May.
handles, sawing wood and using plasterboard fixings.
The event was established in 2015 to meet the needs of an increasing number of females who are keen to tackle home improvement tasks and repairs.
At each event the shop holds a charity raffle. The raffle at the May event raised £100, which was donated to The Basement Project in Bromsgrove, which supports homeless young people.
Research undertaken by the shop indicated that many women feel they lack essential DIY skills and some feel intimidated asking for help in a hardware store, which is traditionally seen as a male domain.
Jackie Hooper, CEO of The Basement Project, attended the Ladies Night Event and was delighted to receive the donation. She was also the winner of a bouquet of flowers in the raffle.
The Ladies Night event includes live demonstrations with an opportunity for guests to have a go at a variety of DIY tasks - such as tiling, applying silicone sealant, changing door
The shop is hoping to hold its next Ladies Night in the autumn. Entry is free but registration is required. If you are interested in attending please call Lisa on 01527 873555.
Thanks to Partridges Butchers and Sainsburyʼs (Stourbridge Road) who supplied much of the food that was served, the shop raised £145 for the charity. This included a generous additional donation from staff at The Hop Pole on Birmingham Road.

“Supporting the local community with events and fundraising is really important to us,” says Lisa Childs, a director at Broad Street DIY. “Weʼve been trading in Bromsgrove for 38 years and we wouldnʼt still be here if it wasnʼt for the local community - so we want to give something back.”

Home & Interiors Eco Chic at Home
Being an eco-warrior doesn’t have to be a battle. With a little thought and effort, you can decorate your home beautifully without harming the planet. Can ‘going green’ ever be stylish? Of course! While you might start with some basics, such as switching to LED light bulbs, insulating your loft or lagging your boiler, the end of your journey could be a chic, sophisticated home that are natural, sustainable and durable – in other words, minimising harm to the planet. to accessories, small changes in your choices can create big eco-transformations. First, think about your priorities in terms of ways to help the environment. Should you aim to be low carbon, non-toxic or fair trade, locally sourced, organic or simply ‘natural’? The answer is not always obvious but some simple research will help you weigh up your options.
By Katherine Sorrell
Look for labels, such as FSC to show timber has been responsibly sourced, or Goodweave that tells you a rug has not been woven by a child. Ask where things come from, what they contain, how they have been made. Buy from a specialist retailer with green credentials, look out for reclaimed, recycled or upcycled products, or buy antique or vintage pieces – they are often well made, good-looking and are certainly long-lasting; many would argue that they are the greenest of all, being the ultimate in recycling. Try to think less about what you think you need, and ask instead what you really don’t need. The three rules of green living are: reduce what you use; reuse what you can; and recycle as much as possible. So, rather than getting rid of things carelessly, consider how you could adapt them and give them another life. Perhaps you could re-cover an old sofa instead of buying a new one, clad the top of an old table with a thin sheet of marble, or repaint a kitchen chair, for example. When you do buy new, you may want to support local artisans or businesses (reducing your
carbon footprint in terms of import miles, too), or fair trade, co-operative or social initiatives overseas, which ensure fair pay and conditions for their workers. It is worth investigating eco choices for virtually everything around the house – from natural Marmoleum or wool carpets, to alternatives to cotton (which uses huge amounts of fresh water and pesticides) such as linen, hemp and alpaca. How much environmental harm does a product cause during production, and what toxins does it contain? Chemicals in paint, fabrics, synthetic carpets, plywood furniture and other man-made materials may ‘off gas’ for years, doing no one much good – another excellent reason to check the labelling. Lastly, bear in mind the beauty of natural materials, from oak and slate to bamboo and linen, in terms of both colour and texture. Subtle shades of browns, greys and off-whites, and tactile appeal that ranges from super-soft to satisfyingly knobbly – everything works together without your having to try too hard, and they will age gracefully, too, adding gentle good looks to your home for a long time to come.

Beauty Summer Lovin’ by Kate Duggan www.kateduggan.co.uk
Have you packed for your summer holiday yet? You might want to find room in your case for one of these beauty treats…
I have a confession. I am just a little bit addicted to travel sets. I love trying new products, and the miniature sizes make me feel like Alice in Wonderland. So it’s fair to say that when the Neal’s Yard Remedies new skincare sets arrived at my door I got rather excited. And I wasn’t disappointed when I tried them out. Award Winning set, which includes Wild Rose Beauty Balm, White Tea Facial Mist, Beauty Sleep Concentrate and White Tea Facial Mask. Each treat is the perfect size for a few days away, and they all smell amazing. The facial mist is lovely and refreshing, and the balm is perfect for soothing chapped lips, travel weary feet and dry skin. Sets cost from £20, www. nealsyardremedies.com. If you’re not lucky enough to be jetting off to the Caribbean for a two week spa break, you can at least treat yourself to an at-home spa experience. Janjira’s latest Therapy Massage Grapefruit and Tangerine candle smells amazing – think cocktails on a balmy summer’s evening in the tropics. It’s made with natural ingredients, such as coconut
oil. As it melts you can use it as a massage oil, or just a body oil if you don’t have a willing masseuse to hand. Divine. £32, from www. janjira.co.uk. When you’re used to an electric toothbrush, a manual one just doesn’t cut it for holidays. Enter the Sonic Chic Urban Portable Toothbrush. It comes with its own cap to keep the brush clean, and is battery powered so there’s no need to pack a charger. There are several designs to choose between, from vintage kitsch to tribal patterns. The Sonic Chic Urban Portable Toothbrush is available from Boots for £19.99, which includes two heads and a battery. If you’re looking for a styling product to give your wavy hair a lift, try Philip Mitchell’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray. Spray a light mist over damp hair, scrunch your hair slightly with a towel or curl up into a bun, and dry off with a hairdryer or leave to air dry. Easy. It gives curls and waves a bit more oomph and adds volume and bounce the market, it doesn’t leave hair feeling ‘crunchy’, stiff or sticky. From £7.25, www.paul-mitchell.co.uk. I’m sure you’re well aware of the importance of wearing sun tan lotion. Unfortunately for us sensitive types, protecting against skin cancer can mean putting up with extra irritation. Odylique’s Natural Sun Screen SPF30 preservatives, colours, fragrances irritate skin. At £25 for a full size tube it’s not cheap, but it’s got to be one of the best natural sunscreens available. It’s easy to massage in, doesn’t leave a white residue, and is packed with nourishing ingredients such as shea butter and chamomile to leave skin feeling pampered.

Events News Know Your Breed Meet Ups for Dog Owners wellbeing. It was really helpful to talk to people that have similar issues and concerns.”
Practice manager Rebekka Fiorani (centre) with pet owners and Labradors
The launch of a new, free event for dog owners, at Clent Hills Vets in Bromsgrove, was a tremendous success in May with all available places booked. Thirty-one local pet owners and twelve dogs attended the ʻKnow Your Breed Labrador Meet Upʼ on the evening of 17th May. Attendees had a chance to mingle with other Labrador owners before taking part in a questions and answers session with an expert panel, which included Head Vet Alun Edwards, Jessica Fanning from Bromsgrove Canine Physio and Hydrotherapy, and Luan Cinque from Purina. Topics covered included the ideal body condition for
Labradors, epilepsy, arthritis and physio tips.
Commenting on why the event was organised, head vet Alun Edwards said: “We know pet owners love to talk to other same breed owners because they have a natural connection. This event was an opportunity for them to share experiences and learn invaluable information about their pets.” Following the success of the event, Clent Hills Vets have now scheduled two further ʻKnow Your Breed Meet Upsʼ.
Q&As with the Expert Panel
During a group discussion some owners said they would be interested in being able to take part in same breed walks in the area, whilst others expressed an interest in learning what conditions Labradors are generally predisposed to. “It was a very interesting and enjoyable evening,” said Jean Howard. “This type of event is great for helping owners talk about their dogʼs health and

Events News Singleton’s Charity Red Balloon Ball Singleton’s Nurseries, based at Lydiate Ash near Bromsgrove, is holding a Red Balloon Ball on 16th September, to raise money for The Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The event forms part of this yearʼs 70th anniversary celebrations for Singletonʼs Nurseries, which has been a family run business since 1947. The Ball will take place in an elegant Capris Marquee at Bellevue, next to 594 Birmingham Road, Lydiate Ash. Guests will enjoy a three course meal with wine, fully licensed bar, and live entertainment, which includes a professional magician, Salsa dancing with John James Salsa, and local band On The Raggedy Edge.
On The Raggedy Edge [photo credit Mark Hirsch]
On The Raggedy Edge was officially branded as the BCH Charity Band, with band members drawn from hospital staff and friends. They have played for the Birmingham Childrenʼs Hospital Annual Revue for the last 10 years. However, due to popular demand the band now also plays other gigs. Its distinctive ʻbrassyʼ style of cover tunes includes rock, blues, pop and dance tunes from across the ages.
In addition to the live entertainment there will be a DJ playing music till late, plus a charity auction and raffle. Guests are invited to wear something red! Tickets for the ball cost £65 per person, or £600 for a table of ten. Commenting on the Ball, Claire Singleton said: “We have a strong connection with the Birmingham Childrenʼs Hospital, having worked there for the past twenty-five years handling grounds maintenance. However, we have also helped with a number of gardening projects and have seen first hand how beneficial these projects have been for the sick and terminally ill children at the Hospital.” Over the past few years Singleton's Nurseries has raised over £14,000 for The Birmingham Childrenʼs Hospital. In 2015 John and Claire Singleton were part of a team of volunteers who helped organise a charity ball at the Birmingham Hyatt to raise money for the childrenʼs play area and the brain injury unit at the hospital. The event raised £7835. In February 2016 John Singleton hosted a fundraising party for his 65th birthday and raised £800.00.

70 Years in Business Singletonʼs Nurseries was established in 1947 by brothers Charles and Jack Kinder. The original business started as ʻKinder Brothers at Harborne Lane Nurseriesʼ. The brothers mainly grew exhibition chrysanthemums, vegetable plants and bedding plants. The business developed when the brothers bought a shop in Northfield for their sister Emma Peggy Singleton - Johnʼs mother. When he left school John went on to train at Pershore Horticultural College. Upon completing his studies he took over the work of his Uncles and renamed the garden centre as Singletonʼs, after his father Lionel Singleton. The business moved to its current Lydiate Ash location in 2001 and now sits on 11 acres of land. Business expansion has included more commercial growing, landscaping and the opening of The Potting Shed Café in 2016. To book tickets for the Red Balloon Charity Ball

The Embark Team with John Till (right) from GTAccess, who was one of the judges
Bromsgrove School has once again achieved great success in the Young Enterprise competition this year with new team ‘Embark’. The thirteen students which make up ʻEmbarkʼ decided on their product of a balancing wine bottle holder early on in the process and have spent the year updating their designs and ensuring high quality.

The end of year competition saw them take home Best Company Report and Best Overall Company at the Area Final and the Best
This yearʼs team should be particularly proud of the way they have come together as a team and most importantly, from a business stance, the significant amount of profit they have made. The skills they have developed and memories they have made will now stay with them as they move forward with their education and future careers. Special thanks should go to their Business Advisors, Lyndon Stokes from The Best of Bromsgrove and Robert Elliot from Hogarths Hotels for their professional advice and commitment.
The team, who were originally selected based on their potential in interview, have truly flourished both in terms of the specific skills they have developed as well as in confidence. Going from strength to strength throughout the year, the team took on

Lazy Days Whether you’re stretching out on a sun lounger, or just grabbing an hour’s peace and quiet in your garden, a good book is a summer essential in our opinion.
Standard Deviation – Katherine Heiny Graham’s second wife, Audra, is warm, sociable and always ready to throw herself headlong into any situation. wife, Elspeth, in fact. So when Elspeth unexpectedly comes himself wondering how on earth he could have fallen in love with two such different women, and whether he’s ended up with the right one. If you like quirky characters, wry humour and of everyday life, this book is for you. Palace of Curiosities – Rosie Garland Abel and Eve are not like other people. Abel’s body heals itself. He has no idea how old he is, but his fractured memories suggest he’s been alive for a very long time. Eve – the Lion Girl – is covered from head to toe in golden hair. Together they are the two main attractions in a show featuring extraordinary people. Set in Victorian England, this is a beautiful tale of humanity and what it means to be ‘different’ in a world that prizes convention.
Reservoir 13 – Jon McGregor A teenage girl goes missing while on holiday in an English village. Seasons come and go and life goes on, but the girl’s mysterious disappearance continues to affect village life. her alive, others of discovering her body. This is not a crime novel, more a glimpse into human nature. There are a lot of characters, and you get to know each one as they go about their daily lives. It’s a quiet book, but it certainly draws you in. 100% Real – Sam Talbot If you’re looking for inspiration for healthy, tasty summer recipes, this book could be just what you need. While its focus is on clean eating, it’s not just about chia seeds and green tea. Recipes include White Fish Curry, Jerk Chicken, with Rum Cream. Recipes are accompanied by full page photos, and are, on the whole, easy to follow. From light lunches and snacks to dishes to impress friends, you’ll cookery book time and time again.
Once in a Blue Moon Lodge – Lorna Landvik A warm, comfortable kind of story with great characters, family dynamics. Once in a Blue Moon Lodge follows a family over two decades – Nora, her mother Patty Jane and her grandmother Ione. It’s the sequel to Patty Jane’s House of Curl, but works as a stand-alone novel. There is a large cast of characters, and the timeline is hard to follow at times, as it jumps from past to present. Nevertheless, it’s a very enjoyable beach read. The Trouble with Goats and Sheep – Joanna Cannon It’s 1976 and 10 year old Grace’s neighbour, Mrs Creasy, has gone missing. With her best friend Tilly in tow, Grace sets out to solve the mystery. It soon becomes apparent that the community is hiding plenty of secrets, some of which go back almost a decade. Grace comes across as rather naive for her age at times, but she’s very likeable. A funny, easy read that will make waiting around at a station or airport much more bearable.

From staycations to Caribbean cruises, this month’s beauty buys are all about summer holiday essentials. If your limbs are still looking a bit winter-white, try Trilogy Instant Bronzing Gel. Hotel rooms often don’t have a mirror anywhere near a plug socket, which can make styling your for some new straighteners, you might want to consider Lee Stafford’s No Strings Attached Cordless Straighteners. Pop them into the base and they’ll quickly heat up to 230°C. You can then take them to the mirror and style your hair while the heat lasts (about 15 minutes). With such a high temperature, and tourmalineceramic plates, they’re really quick and easy to use. There’s no need to strain your eyes peering at a mirror at the other side of the room, and there’s no cord to knock your cocktail over. Available from Argos and Very for £69.99, including heat-proof mat and travel case.

So whether you need a softer surface for relaxing in the lotus position, or a grippier surface for your sun salutation, this mat is ideal. It’s £39 from www.calmia.com. Education News New Beginning for Bromsgrove Stage School
James Suckling and Leah Alcock with Stagecoach students
Students at a Bromsgrove stage school are embarking on an exciting new journey as they prepare to work with a brand-new performing arts leadership team, following the retirement of the school’s Principal. James Suckling, who has run the Bromsgrove Stagecoach School for the past seventeen years, passed ownership to Leah Alcock during an emotional handover on Sunday 11 June. Student Shannon Mangan, who has been a member of Stagecoach for twelve years, presented James with a special seventeenyear award medal – similar to the medals which the students receive after every full year attendance.
Shannon Mangan presenting James with his special medal
James combined his role at Stagecoach in Bromsgrove with the running of the Edgbaston Stagecoach school, as well as teaching music and working as a Director / Musical Director for Operatic Societies across the Midlands. A combination of getting older and having a full-time job during the week resulted in his decision to sell his Bromsgrove Stagecoach franchise.
“This was not an easy decision to make,” said James. “I spent some considerable time talking to people from the profession before I decided to hand over the reigns to Leah. She has worked for Stagecoach for over ten years and currently also works as a performing arts teacher at a school in Redditch. I know her passion for the performing arts will help create an even stronger Stagecoach school in Bromsgrove.” Leahʼs plans for taking Stagecoach forward include more performance opportunities and the launch of school holiday workshops. These start with a summer performance workshop running from July 31 to August 4.
The new Stagecoach team
Stagecoach takes place on a Sunday morning at St Johnʼs Middle School in Bromsgrove. For details call 01527 868636 or email

Jet Lag and Joy Lag: How to Recover from Your Holiday
Holidays should be a chance to relax and revitalise ourselves. So why do we sometimes feel miserable and exhausted afterwards, and how can we prevent it? Jet Lag Jet lag refers to symptoms caused by disruption to your ‘body clock’ when you travel to a different time-zone. They can include changed bowel habits, tiredness, headache, anxiety, confusion and nausea. Their severity depends on age and how many time zones you cross. One or two? No problem. Three to six? You’ll feel it. Seven to twelve? You’ll need a few days to adapt, particularly when travelling east, as it’s often easier to delay sleep than make yourself sleep after a shorter day. Reducing Jet Lag Jet lag when you arrive on holiday is inconvenient, but when you return, it can be a problem – especially if you have to adapt quickly to everyday life. While you can’t prevent jet lag, there are ways to help reduce
its effects. • If possible, gradually move your routine closer to that of your new time zone several days before departure. • Ensure you’re wellrested and hydrated before and during • Nap on the plane if night time will be a long time away when you arrive. If you want to stay awake, keep active (essential for reducing the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis on long • Avoid alcohol, which may increase symptoms. Remember that caffeinated drinks (e.g. tea, coffee and • Adjust to the new time zone immediately. Resist napping on arrival unless it’s night time. • Use the calculator created by Dr Idzikowski of Edinburgh Sleep Centre, to tell you how to use daylight to reduce jet lag at www.ba.com/jetlag. Joy Lag (Post-HoLiday BLues and exHaustion) It’s not uncommon to feel glum and exhausted when you get back from your holiday. Perhaps you overdid it, packing in too many activities and trips, overindulging and not getting enough sleep. Returning to your work, responsibilities,
holiday laundry, gloomy weather and an untidy house can be daunting, too – and there’s no holiday to look forward to anymore. Preventing Joy Lag Before your holiday, try to pack gradually. Less frantic packing will help to prevent you coming back to a mess. If you can afford it, book a treat to look forward to a few weeks post-holiday. Stock up on easy meals for your return and if you can, book a day or two off after your holiday to adjust. during your holiday, don’t cram every moment with trips or organised activities. Shortlist trips, check the weather forecast and any special events and then plan the best days to venture out. Reserve other days for relaxation or a short trip to a local attraction or restaurant. Try to make the journey home as fun and relaxing as possible. Perhaps you could break your journey at a restaurant, or even a hotel full holiday breakfast. after your holiday, be kind to yourself. Cook easy meals or treat yourself by eating out or having a takeaway. Conversely, though, start on the washing as soon as you’re back. It will only take a minute or two and you’ll know you’ve made a start. Put suitcases out of sight until they’re empty. Here’s wishing you reduced jet lag, reduced joy lag and Happy Holidays!

Safe Journey by Pippa Greenwood
Now that the weather is really summery, everyone is rushing to their local garden centres, garden shows and nurseries to stock up on new plants for the garden. However, don’t forget to ensure that the plants you buy have a good chance of surviving, not only once they get home, but also during the journey there; it is worth taking a few very sensible precautions. Don’t take something home the day you buy it if it is too large to you drive, if the plant is sticking out of a sunroof or window the foliage is going to be scorched and damaged, and it is possible that a stem may be broken. Almost all garden centres now offer delivery and this is usually free of charge within a reasonable radius, so take advantage of this service. then remember to wrap the root ball in a black bin liner or a box, to prevent the back of your car becoming full of compost, grit etc. Always use the garden centre as the last port of call before travelling home, as in hot weather temperatures increase
quickly in a closed car, even with the windows or sunroof open. Under these conditions the plants can soon be boiled alive, literally! Plants in the boot should be safer for a slightly longer period of time, but you should travel straight home once you have made your purchases. If you are determined to take something home that protrudes slightly from your car, then it is essential that you wrap up anything which is sticking out really well to prevent leaf scorch and damage. Make sure that it is tied down extremely well so that it can’t blow off on the way home. Remember that anything protruding from your car could potentially cause a driving hazard to other road users, so be sensible. Even on a short journey home, plants which are exposed to exaggerated heat inside a car or the scorching effect of sunlight travelling through the car glazing can be seriously damaged, so cover them up with something to decrease the risk. It is worth taking a few old newspapers with you when you go to the garden centre, as these make perfect temporary
tents. Remember that most plants prefer fairly constant conditions, so try not to put them through too many changes in a short space of time. Ideally, take them from one area in the garden centre to somewhere similar in your garden, and keep any travelling during hot weather to a minimum. If they look at all damaged from their journey then give them a week or two to recuperate in dappled shade in a protected position in your garden. And don’t forget that when you plant anything new in your garden, if the weather is at all dry it is worth waiting until the evening or at least late afternoon before planting. Bromsgrove Rock School was launched in April 2017 by Brian Hoggard. Brian formerly owned and ran Worcester School of Rock and Performance and was also Chairman of Worcester Music Festival. The School offers budding musicians and singers, aged eight to 18 years, the chance to work with other young people as part of a band, with an end of term live gig. As the bands work towards the gig they benefit from professional coaching by music and vocal tutors.
The concert will run from 7pm for an hour. Songs performed will include Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes), Galway Girl (Ed Sheeran) and Cake by the Ocean (DNCE). The event is open to members of the public. There is no entry charge but people are asked to make a minimum donation of ÂŁ2, which will be given
Anyone who is interested in joining Bromsgrove Rock School can register now for the new term, which starts mid September. For venue, day and times contact Brian at Dragon Music. A small PA system and microphones are supplied but students must take their own instruments and amplifiers. Contact Brian Hoggard on 07720 211002 or email brian@dragonmusic.org www.dragonmusic.org
The young people who joined the Rock School last April will be performing their first gig on Friday 14 July at The Swan Inn, in Upton Warren, near Bromsgrove.
