TECHNOLOGY CENTER ResearchMERIDIAN suggests that our decisions are disrupted by an array of irrationalities and biases: We are overconfident. We seek out information that supports us and downplay information that doesn’t. We get distracted by short-term emotions. Unfortunately, being aware of these shortcomings doesn’t fix the problem, so we have to learn how to do better. This session will offer you a better framework to use when making decisions. You’ll learn a step-by-step method to widen your options, reality test your assumptions, attain some distance and prepare to be wrong. You will also brainstorm and discuss practical solutions to common decisions we each have to make on a daily and weekly basis.

Go Ahead, Take Your Vacation Time More than 55 percent of American workers didn’t use all their paid vacation time last year. Why is this? Reasons are all over the map - too much work to do, perception that no one else can do their job or they can’t afford the vacation they’d really like to take. Where this choice often breeds lower productivity and eventual employee burnout, planned time away from work leads to rejuvenation, reflection and stronger relationships with the most important people in your life. This session will dive into the details of how to successfully prepare for and get away from your workspace, how to optimize your time away and how to re-enter your work routines feeling renewed and recommitted. 5/14
