Course Catalog 2020 Winter / Spring

I usually start each year with a focus on vision. I identify personal and professional goals that I have for the upcoming year and begin to map out a course to achieve them. Some years that entails making significant changes, and in other years, it’s more of making small tweaks. In addition to planning out steps needed for change, sometimes I have to also think about whose help I might need to achieve my vision. With it being 2020, this process is a little more meaningful. I, and probably many others, will make significant changes in their life in 2020. Having the necessary resources will be key. What and who do you need to join you on your journey this year? Each semester Meridian offers hundreds of courses. Many of our short courses have classes during both the day and evening hours, and often meet one or two times during the week. If time is a factor, online training is also available. Do you want to get that next promotion? Tackle a hobby that you’ve been putting off? Start the business you’ve been dreaming about? Develop your leadership skills? Or do you want to end 2020 with an entirely new career? Whatever vision and goals you have for 2020, the courses in this catalog might be just the help you need to help you climb higher.

BUSINESS LEADERSHIP AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

LUNCHTIME LEARNING

Coaching Essentials

Most of us see strong black-and-white boundaries when it comes to legal or illegal activities, but ethical boundaries can be a bit trickier to navigate. The middle zone is usually gray, and we must regularly rely on our own interpretation of what will maintain trust between everyone involved. This session will dive deeper into why ethics matter in today’s business climate and how you can steer through the challenges to make decisions that honor your principles and demonstrate respect to those around you.

Why Workplace Ethics Matter

Leaders are responsible for creating and maintaining an environment that contributes to employee motivation and commitment and for bringing out the best in people every day. Effective leaders understand which behaviors influence the success of those around them, and coaching is the cornerstone to that process. During this interactive series, facilitator Carol Naberhaus will highlight many of those behaviors that, if practiced on a daily basis, will promote and build trusting work relationships through the power of positive reinforcement, setting clear expectations and giving specific, targeted and timely feedback. center for business development Support for Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

The process of converting an idea into a business venture requires intensity, focus and a support network. Our mission is to help entrepreneurs build strong businesses, and we do that in three ways. Business Consulting & Coaching

We provide business consulting and coaching to early-stage companies and aspiring entrepreneurs. We’ll help you explore the feasibility of an idea, identify a new market for your product or service, evaluate your marketing, understand how to hire the right employees and more. Business Incubation When You’re Starting a Business

Business incubation is a focused process that includes management guidance, technical assistance and consulting for young, growing companies. Entrepreneurs can locate their business in the Center for Business Development as a residential or virtual tenant. Residential tenants have access to services and rent dedicated office or lab space for up to three years. Virtual tenants have access to our services but do not rent space.
