Brookwood Middle School Daily Announcements: • Using a variety of sources. History.com (on this day...) etc..
Classroom Activities: • Library/Globe: The globe will have book on different African Americans on display. There will will famous African American people displayed with notations of their professions. Book blurbs during book check out on selected African American stories. • Social Studies: Research on social awareness of how both male and female heroes impacted life as we know of today. Web Quest. • ELA: African American Biographies, discussion of informational quotes during bell ringers, short reads on various accomplishments, view a video of a 5th graders winning speech on MLK, students will create a booklet of accomplishments. • Science: Students will create poems about African American Scientists or Leaders • Art: Student will learn about art in the Harlem Renaissance Era. Classroom Activities: • Students will view daily power point presentation of highlights of African Americans. • Classroom Activity Workbook & African American World for Kid Games. • STEM: African Americans in Science and Technology Activities. • Each classroom will design a poster of a historical African American figure to post within the building. • Poems to Celebrate Black History Month
Students will recite Poems and read articles by African-Americans.

Classroom Activities: • Daily Building Announcements regarding events, people, and quotes of African American History. • Bulletin Boards from each grade level celebrating African American History. • All Fine Arts Classes will emphasize the important influence of various African Americans and their contributions to American Culture. • African American World for Kids | Games, e-cards, and KidTalk. • STEM: African Americans in Science and Technology Activities. • Conduct a read-aloud of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, then invite students to write their own speeches about what they are inspired to change in the world. • Positive Promotions: All students will receive positive Black History Incentives.
