From The Principal... Every year, October is degignated as [National Fire Prevention Month]. The National Fire Protection Asociation has degignated thig year’s theme as [Look. Ligten. Learn]. Be Aware. Fire can happen anywhere. Fire Prevention Week takes place October 7th - 13th, 2018. According to the National Fire Protection Association, U.S. fire departments respond to approximately 5,690 fires at education buildings each year. That’ s why it’s so important to stress fire safety education in our schools. Take a look at the following safety tips, and learn how you can teach school fire safety prevention to your family at home.

7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

School Hours

This year’s theme identifies three (3) basic ways we can reduce the risk of fire and be prepared in the event we are in one:

LOOK Look for places fire could start. Take a good look around your home. Identify potential fire hazards and take care of them.

LISTEN Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm. You could have only minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Go to your outside meeting place, which should be a safe distance from the home and where everyone should know to meet.

LEARN Learn two (2) ways out of every room and make sure all doors and windows leading outside open easily and are free of clutter. Sincerely.

Ms. Jill Larson, Principal Play, Learn and Grow... Together!

Fire Prevention Week “Look-Listen-Learn! Be Aware! Fire can happen anywhere,” worh to remind us that fires can and sill do happen- at home, as well as in other locations and that there are basic but important steps people can take to remain safe.

Practice Fire Safety as a Family Family “togetherness” will never be more important than in the event of a fire and your family ig forced to egcape from the home! In the event of a fire, all membern of your family must react immediately if they are to have the best chance to escape unharmed. Preparing and practicing a [Family Escape Plan] will aggure that all membern of your family know what to do if ever faced with a fire within the home.

are some ways you can be actively involved at our school without

committing a large amount of time:

Make sure you review with your child any work he brings home. Think about displaying it in a prominent place in your home to show how much you value his education.

Schedule occasional phone conferences or ask the teacher if you can “talk” by email when you have a question, concern or something to share.

If your child brings home a weekly folder, include short notes in it for the teacher to read.

Make a point of briefly touching base with the teacher when you drop your child off at school. A quick greeting and comment will continue to let her know you’re an active partner in your child’s learning.

Ask the teacher how you can support classroom activities at home.

Help make learning activities or repair broken equipment. Donate materials.

Use your technology skills to help publish a class newsletter.

Organize or participate in a telephone tree that informs families about school activities.

You might also consider thinking about how you might be present occasionally. If you have a flexible work schedule or a vacation day, consider joining your child for lunch. You might even decide to help out at a one-time event such as a field trip or school festival. Your child will look forward to and remember these special times, and you’ll further reinforce the importance of his school experiences.

In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America.
