#BrookwoodStrong WELCOME TO THE 2020 - 2021 SCHOOL YEAR! We are very excited about this upcoming school year, and anticipate another successful year. While this year is beginning like no other, we are committed to continuing our focus on Creating An Exceptional and Engaging School Year.

We have begun our first quarter with [Remote Learning]. Our Remote Learning plan has been developed to ensure that all students, families and staff have the maximum benefits of virtual teaching and learning.

Hickory Bend offers our students challenging experiences in the core curriculum: Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and STEM. Additionally, to continue to meet the needs of our students and provide them with enriching experiences in Physical Education, Music and Art. Our classrooms are also moving toward digital platforms such as Google Classsrooms. We strive to provide successful educational opportunities for all learners by challenging those who excel, and by providing academic interventions for those in need. f

Communication is key to building relationships with students and parents. Please use Power School to check your child’s grades and weekly progress. All teachers will be communicating to you through their Class DoJo account and will be sending you a link to join their classroom. It is important to maintain daily communication with your child’s teachers, and the administration as needed.

This year presents new and different experiences for each of us. However, I am confident that we will work together to provide ongoing social emotional learning systems of support along with opportunities for dialogue guided by our ideals that support a culture of hope.

Our educators will work diligently to create supportive and caring communities, celebrate and honor the differences among us and enhance our cultural sensitivity. We welcome you as partners in your child’s learning and hope you will become a familiar face at our school when we return in person.

Parents must call the school to report their child absent before 8:30 a.m.

The number for reporting absences is (708) 757-2115. Official attendance will be reported every morning at 9:00 a.m. If your child joins a teacher’s classroom late, they will be marked tardy in PowerSchool, and you will be notified through the Principal’s ClassDojo.

If your child needs any resources or supplies for any of their classes, please contact the school office so we can help provide them with the needed materials.
