I Am Proud Of My Mum

For Children, Mothers will always be Special. For Daughters, even more so.

I cannot very proudly say today that I share an amazing relationship with my mother. I cannot say that I connect with her regularly or am able to share my emotions with her. Very simply, I don’t think she’ll understand all the challenges I face every day at home, in relationships, at work and with the society of Dubai as a whole. This is simply because we lead very different lives, in different continents and we are very different natured humans. My mother is everything that I am not. She is traditional, soft-spoken, very feminine, calm tempered, patient, shy and simple to the core. Yet she has passed on a few very valuable traits to me. To name a few, my ability to feel and understand others when they’re distressed and also my ability to smile when in self distress. She has gifted me the valuable art of giving without expecting anything in return. I have learnt by her example, how making someone smile and making a heart happy can result in countless blessings. I am proud of how she displayed courage in living alone and being strong after my father passed away. She proved that being silent and alone is not a sign of weakness. She fought her battle with cancer with a smile and with support from all of her family and friends, emerging a

winner. She had qualities hidden, which we discovered only during her trying times. Myself being a very free spirited person, I cherish these values today. I give without asking for anything in return and I smile unconditionally. I can say today that I am a balanced blend of my mum and dad. I am free spirited like him and yet sensitive enough to be able to touch people’s lives; the right people’s lives! And I owe this to my mother. I would like to make a quick mention about my parenting skills here, as these are also at test in this stage of my life. I want to share that I have taken no special effort to teach my children any values; I just practice them. I believe in leading by example and whatever they are today and will be in the future, they will be a reflection of Abbas and me. I salute you mom on mother’s day. I hope one day I can embrace life the way you do. If my story has stirred something in your heart please share it with your friends.
