As you know, at least from our children, our families, and our local communities. As reported by the Contra Costa Times in July 2012, the release of throughout California. And, sadly, we have already seen violent acts committed against our citizens by these newly released criminals, including murders, assaults, torture and rape. It is clear the legislature, controlled completely by your party, will not act to end this the cities and counties of our great state safe again. According to the Daily Press in July of 2012, 88 of the burglaries committed since 2011 in Hesperia were perpetrated by only four people, two of whom were released under this early release scheme and nearly 30 can be linked back to one of these individuals. There is no hiding the fact that there is a direct correlation between an increase in crime and the passing of your failed policy. This legislation is irresponsible and it threatens the safety of all Californians. As the Governor, it should be your number one priority to ensure public safety. Join with the people of California and put an end to your policy. We will obtain the signatures necessary to put this on the ballot and the people of California – asserting their judgment -- will end early release of criminals into the neighborhoods of our state. Certainly, it would be mystifying if the Governor opposed this effort, but regardless, we are proceeding. As you know, we are in Fontana this morning, at the site of the horrible murder referenced above, and will not stop until California is safe again. Remembering The

Memorial Day 2013

P

arades decorated with red, white and blue and heavenly prayers cast for fallen soldiers made up the tapestry of the Inland Empire's various celebrations honoring veterans on Memorial Day. Music and words

were shared with many. People young and old gathered at cemeteries to pay their respects with rolling noise as well as contemplative silence. Residents of Riverside and San Bernardino counties marked Memorial Day with celebrations all weekend, stretching throughout both of the counties on one of the most decorated days of the year in the Inland Empire. Riverside County, in particular, is known as one of the most prominent homes of military veterans in the United States. In remembrance of the fallen, groups such as the 7,000 bikers who took part in the annual West Coast Thunder Ride to Riverside National Cemetery traveled to Riverside National Cemetery in memory of those who died in military service, as well as POWs & MIAs. Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino was visited by the March Air Reserve Honor Guard. It performed a 21-gun salute and ringing of the freedom bell after guests shared their thoughts with other attendees. In Temecula, nearly 100 people visited the Temecula Duck where young marines led the ceremony. Veterans and attendees also held their own memorial with guest speakers at Laurel Cemetery in Murrieta.

oday we are here to remember.

We are here to declare together, as one community and one nation, that a life given in service to this great country will never be forgotten. We are here to ensure that patriots endure. We hold them in our thoughts and lift them in our prayers, and today, as we should every single day, we stand steadfast with the families of the fallen. We are here to remember the dreams they dreamed, and the courage they revealed as they left their homes behind to answer the call of THIS grateful nation. the beaches of Normandy, the bitter cold of Korea, the jungles of Vietnam, the desert heat of foreign lands, and countless battle fronts in the endless defense of the freedoms we hold most dear. We are here today to remember. The work of democracy demands centuries of our children and grandchildren, each generation owes gratitude to our past and vigilance to our future. To the fallen who have given everything, who Riverside National Cemetery

laid down their lives for their homes, for the ones they love, for their faith that the sparks of liberty that began on our shores should blaze and warm the world, we owe nothing less than our own lives. Every single day their memories surround us, urging us onwards and onwards to become presence here, and with reverence for the men and women who have worn the uniform, and believed so fully in who we are and what we are the call and hope that we are up to the task. This day is a sacred covenant with our past. In the days, months, and years that followed the Civil War, as this nation struggled to heal from the trauma of brothers warring with brothers, and a country torn apart by violence, Americans gathered together to remember and honor the loved ones lost. Over time, this custom grew into tradition. I thank God for the blessings of tradition - it grants us a moment in time to stand with one another and remember. It pulls us out into open air to bring our grief from private pain to public healing. And it gives us occasion to renew our covenant with the future. Today we honor their memories by accepting the tasks that stand before us. We honor those who lost their lives in service to our country and those who live on. As the weapons of war evolve in sophistication, each generation that returns faces new trauma that doctors struggle to heal. Injuries not just to the body but to the mind and the heart. Our covenant to the care of the survivors must be as vigilant as our commitment to the memories of the fallen. Our nation owes a debt to those that best medical care, the very best education, the very best jobs this country has to offer. Today, we are here to remember. And in remembering we are here to renew our call, as a community and a country, to serve the men and women who served so bravely. Today, we are here to remember. God Bless you and God Bless America.
