As I’m sure you would agree, spring can’t get here soon enough! The Brownsburg Parks team is looking forward to what 2020 will bring to your park and recreation system. Throughout the rest of this edition of The Adventurer, you’ll learn more about what is in store, including new and improved park facilities and programs. Summer Adventure Camp is right around the corner. Each year, we are proud to offer some of the most active and engaging camp activities in the area for ages 3 – 16. Our partnership with Camptown will help your child experience unique outdoor environments and help to develop essential life characteristics such as sharing, honesty, respect, teamwork and responsibility. Cardinal Bark Park is almost complete at Cardinal Park. We can’t wait to see all of the dogs and their owners at the grand opening later this spring! We appreciate the help of our “Friends of the Cardinal Bark Park” who have provided input and guidance as staff works to put the finishing touches on Brownsburg’s first public dog park.

Park District Bond Moves Projects Forward Thanks to a $4.4 million park district bond, Brownsburg Parks will be able to complete three long-standing projects : • Stephens Park will be renovated to include pickleball courts, two universal playgrounds and a nature play area. • Virgil Park at 9145 E. County Rd. 300 N. will provide additional access to the B&O Trail thanks to a parking lot. There also will be a small playground in the park, which includes wetlands and a prairie. • Phase 1 of the White Lick Creek Greenway will be completed, with the trail continuing from Northfield Boulevard south along the White Lick Creek to Arbuckle Acres Park. The timing of the bond allowed Brownsburg Parks to get financing while rates are at their lowest level in recent history. Taxpayers won’t see a tax increase because the structure of the bond keeps the tax rate neutral.

Seeking bonds to complete parks projects when rates are low makes good fiscal sense. A bond can stretch park dollars further, allowing a balance between new development and renovations at existing parks. When it comes to budgeting, Parks’ staff must think strategically just like homeowners in terms of how to stretch their money.

News & updates

FORWARD FOCUS For example, many homeowners refinance loans when interest rates drop. Many take on debt to improve the value of their homes by doing things like room renovations or room additions. Investing in parks plays an important role in the quality of life of our community. The bond also helps to meet the goals established with community input in the Parks Strategic Master Plan and the Town’s Strategic Plan. Brownsburg Parks is pleased to be able to contribute to the positive growth of Brownsburg.
