SENATOR MAILE SHIMABUKURO 2023 HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID KALILI 2023 HMSA Kaimana Scholarship Recipient

We are always proud when our youth succeed spectacularly in representing the MANA of our community and bring honor to his family and his school !!

With all the risk-factors, all of the poor demographics, and all of the challenges faced by our keiki, it is extremely refreshing to see such an encouraging success story from the Waianae Coast.

As Principal Pilialoha (Nanakuli High & Intermediate) stated, “Mr. Kalili was raised in a family who has a sincere sense of service. This strong belief in community has been instilled in him from a very young age. Not only is he a great student, he is a great person.”

We congratulate Mr. Kalili and wish him all the best !

IN ONLY THE MOST LOVING MEMORY: DR. FRED DODGE, MD Moment

of Reflection & Celebration

Dr. Fred Dodge, aged 90, died on April 3, 2022 at home, embraced by his wife and daughter. Survivors include his wife Karen, 4 children, 2 step children, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his ex-wife Aiko “Sparrow” Dodge. He liked to be called “Fred.”

He was a faithful community healer as the first director of the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center in 1975.

In seeking a holistically healthy place, he realized that there existed an ongoing injustice with the bombing of Makua Valley to which he fought fiercely against ongoing atrocities. This was one of his most passionate legacies lasting decades.

Fred loved hiking, straight jazz, standing for peace and justice, long walks, plays, movies, travel, exploring, reading and being with family. Fred chose to donate his body to the UH Medical School. May he rest in ALOHA.
