CALLING FOR ACTION on HR 113 & SR 171 TO ADDRESS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE
BURIAL SITES WORKING GROUP
The purpose of these two resolutions concurrently call for the creation of the Burial Sites Working Group to review and recommend improvements to the State Island Burial Councils. Many administrative and logistical challenges arose between the DLNR’s State Historic Preservation Division, the Island Burial Councils, and the Hawaiian community. Though a concurrent resolution did not pass, we are calling for the mandates of each chamber be considered to bring pono in handling the ‘iwi kupuna.
