Designer of Elsa Coloured Shoes Head designer, Joanne Stoker, is an award-winning designer and holds a master’s degree from the London College of Fashion’s Cordwainers.

Stoker won the ‘Footwear Friends Award’, which is sponsored by the British Footwear Association.

Before establishing her own label in 2010, she was instructed by Jimmy Choo. She has been designing the dream shoes of Elsa Coloured Shoes for about a year.

The mega shoe trend 2017: Sneakers. It’s already been common for quite some time to wear sporty trainers with every outfit and for every opportunity, ideally in cream colours. Then why not also on the wedding day? Nena, made completely of lace and spruced up with satin shoelaces, goes well with kneelength dresses or trouser suits. And is also suited as a comfortable second pair of shoes when the high heels start pinching.

CREATIVITY IS CALLED FOR! Admitted: Brides have more possibilities to dress up on the wedding day. However, grooms are also allowed to attract attention! Our tip: Swap black or brown shoelaces for coloured ones.

This works particularly well when the shoelaces harmonise with a breast pocket handkerchief, bow-tie or bridal bouquet.

IS THAT LEATHER? No, but it looks like it. Strictly speaking, suede, a new and exceptionally high-quality material, is a fabric. As such, it is very soft to the touch. However, when looking at it, it looks like full-grain leather. Our verdict: an elegant innovation.

LIGHT ON YOUR FEET: The Goodyear Welted sole THE STAR AMONG VEILS Although the so-called mantilla has already been around for centuries, it’s still as fresh as ever.

Quite the contrary: The traditional Spanish veil version (covering the head and shoulders, most of the time floor-length) is back! The Rainbow Club Brescia model is adorned with lace edge; fastened close to the hairline, and it goes particularly well with plain, long robes.

You shouldn’t go down the aisle wearing just any pair of shoes. For this reason, many of the Mr. Fiarucci-collection’s men’s models come with Goodyear Welted soles: three-layered and sewn together with the upper material. Why? Because this way you have a robust shoe and can celebrate in comfort!

HOW DO I SELECT A SHOE FORM?

Dress and location are decisive: Timelessly elegant shoes go well with the classic castle wedding (and the corresponding look) for instance pumps or high-heeled sandals. More rustic styles go well with a country wedding with a barn festival and bohemian dress. Important: When you get married or celebrate outside on a meadow, the heel should not be too narrow. Else you have the risk of sinking in.

2.

WHEN SHOULD I BUY THE SHOES?

Of course everyone knows that true shoe lovers buy their shoes long before they even start looking for a wedding dress. However, also for those who take the classic path and first select their wedding dress before selecting the shoes: Don’t buy too late - else there is

no more time to adjust your dress length to the shoes.

WHERE DO I FIND THE RIGHT PAIR?

In a bridal fashion store.

Many brides like to buy everything from one source because this saves time and effort. Saleswomen who deal with brides every day also know exactly what to pay attention to when it comes to wedding shoes and which model harmonises with which dress. What is more, in some cities you can find shoe boutiques that are specialised in bridal and evening shoes.

4.

WHAT IF THE SHOES ARE UNCOMFORTABLE?

If you already notice that the shoe is pinching when trying it on the first time, you should select another pair. Please bear in mind: not every shoe is suited for

every type of foot. For those who like broad soles, tight pumps are not the right choice. As for the rest, the following applies: Wear in, wear in, wear in. Ideally, a few weeks before the wedding!

5.

THE WEDDING IS OVER. WHAT DO I DO WITH MY SHOES? Those who have selected a pair with white or creme­ coloured satin from Rainbow Club can use the Colour Service of Elsa (see p. 46) – this way, bridal shoes become models that can also still be worn after the wedding.

If your shoes are holy to you, you can store them, rolled up in tissue paper and packed in a cardboard box, or you can set them in scene in a stylish manner: Under a glass bell jar or in a glass cabinet, they will remind you of your wedding vow every day.

A DETAIL WITH A HISTORY

Fashion styles come and go, but this never led to any confusion as far as the bridal veil was concerned. The first of its kind already went back thousands of years - for instance in Mesopotamia or Assyria. The bridal veil has been a symbol of virginity since the 4th century in Christianity and, as such, took over the previous custom of getting married with long, open hair. By the way, white was not always the colour of choice. Red also was considered marriage material.

And today? The veil rather serves as a statement than as a means of veiling the bride. Its loud and clear statement: Yes, I do!

WHETHER SHORT OR LONG, IT’S ALWAYS THE RIGHT CHOICE

A veil can be many things: romantic, girly, modern or cool. How it makes the wearer look depends first and foremost on its length. Pure drama: Over-long, floor-reaching cathedral veil. The floor-length church veil was slightly more understated, and was frequently combined with a so-called

blusher, a single-layered short veil in front of the face. The following applies for all long veils: Without good fixation at the top or back of the head nothing goes! Shorter veils, for instance finger-tip or elbow-length veils appear less formal but equally bridal. Very short variants, for instance the so-called flyaway, round off modern stylings and are popular at civil wedding ceremonies.
