 Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians    

(CONSAL) Was Formed in 1970 It Is a Loose and Flexible Organisation It Provides Professional Contact and Exchange It Holds A General Conference Once Every Three Years It Promotes Cooperation: Librarianship, Bibliography, Documentation and Related Activities in the Region Its Members: National Libraries/Las


 The Secretariat Was Established in 2000  Hosted by the National Library Board (NLB) of

Singapore  To Plan and Execute Programmes and Activities  Secretary General is a Member of CONSAL Executive Board  Currently the Host Nation of General Conference Acts as the Secretariat


 Normally the Board Meets Once a Year and is Hosted

by the Host Country of the General Conference  This Year 2016 Myanmar Recently Hosted the EB Meeting  The Meetings Act as a Forum for Updates on the Collaborative Projects and Regional Activities  The Meetings are Attended by Executive Board Members


 The Award is Given Annually  The Recipient Must Have Made Significant

Contributions to the Library Profession  Or To Improving the Relations Among Libraries of Member Countries


 Resource Sharing and Legal Depository  Copyright  Preservation and Conservation  Translation of Materials  Training


 To Facilitate Access To Each Other’s National

Bibliographic Resources Including the Acquisitions or Exchange of Publications  To Establish a Working Group To Consider and Study Strategies For Maintaining and Preserving Legal Deposits in Southeast Asian Countries


 To Explore Guidelines for Fair Use of Various Types of

Materials, Especially Digital Transmission  To Explore the Setting Up of a Rights Management System

and Conservation of Library Materials for Member Countries

Purpose of Making Available the Written Cultural Heritage of Each Member Country
