As we all know, there are a lot of fashion stylists in the UK so the first thing I needed to do was to find my unique selling point; targeting working women in the UK and solving their issues, bad mood with colours and style.

We’re always looking for cutting edge ideas that we can incorporate into our mobile product and to this end we worked with students at Brunel Digital on the design for mobile module. The students showed good skills in identifying demographics, producing relevant research, creating persona likes/dislikes of the target audience and translating this into effective wireframes and prototypes. It was particularly enthusing to see the design work and different directions students had taken. I definitely enjoyed my time with Brunel Digital and would hope to do it again in the future! It was a brilliant sound and motion design studio visit yesterday! I enjoyed it and found it really interesting. It is always great to hear directly from someone in the industry and how they got there.
It’s very important that students in this field understand the importance of production processes and the relationship between designers and clients. Understanding that creative, technical knowledge and diplomacy go hand in hand. Therefore, ensuring students learn these skills as part of their educational experience is paramount.

At Gram Games I am really getting into the nitty-gritty of marketing, not only learning about the creative process of 2D animated videos and still pieces of graphic design, but also about the impact these creative pieces have on the audience and company. I am also given the friendly and accepting space to use my knowledge and ideas to not only be impactful on the work we are creating, but also collaborate with co-workers to think differently; creating amazing work that we are all exceptionally proud of.

My placement has been an amazing experience as I've had the opportunity to work on CGI for TV and film, experiencing how it really works in the industry. It’s enhanced my existing skills, learning much more than just from course lectures and workshops. I would definitely recommend all students to look for a placement.

Whilst on placement, try to do as much as you can. Because you are learning, the pressure on you should be less intense, so take advantage of this and ask to be involved so you can gain more experience. Embrace responsibility if it is given to you, this means that they trust you. Don’t be afraid of asking for help and advice from your colleagues, but also try to learn how to become more independent.

It’s been a pleasure dealing with Brunel Digital. Your students have been great and I know the team will be keen to continue with the relationship.
6.0mm Here is what our students had to say about their experience going on a placement year, along with quotes from their colleagues. I was employed at Orlight as a Junior Digital Designer, working closely with the senior web designer and two graphic designers. I was redesigning their website, site banners and created product release newsletters. I also received training in back-end development and how to manage the site independently. We like to take on Brunel Digital students because, in our experience, they are far more aware of workplace demands and expectations. Red Isaac, Director – Peter Anderson Studio
James has achieved so much in the time he has been with us; developing his compositing and 3D skills, image making and building imaginary worlds, successfully dealing with and interpreting the demands of a creative team. Peter Anderson, Founder – Peter Anderson Studio
I absolutely love the placement and opportunities experienced, from assisting senior colleagues in delivering graphics and on-production shoots; to discussing projects and ideas with others in different roles within broadcasting. I have gained skills in visual presentation, technical applications and how to cope with the pressures in a busy broadcast environment—professional skills that will help me hit the ground running when securing a new job post-graduation. Sterling’s relationship with the University began back in 2016 when Brunel Digital was looking for a partner to supply the collateral for the degree show when I was in my final year, just as you all are now!
We wish everyone here today best of luck in their future endeavours.
Over the last three years, the relationship has grown and we now produce a suite of marketing collateral including the Undergraduate and Postgraduate prospectuses as well as continuing to support the degree show itself as one of the sponsors.
