Bio-inspired shapes Lumina project
Hand made sketches for the Msc Industrial Product Design dissertation. The inspiration has been acquired from the soft and organic shapes of Bioluminescence organisms, in particular jellyďŹ sh and mushrooms. These shapes also suggest a tactile experience of a soft and ductile material like rubber or silicon. 4
Coloured sketches and light effects Lumina project
Hand made sketches for the Lumina project using colours that were applied with Photoshop while exploring new shapes and different light effects.
5
Shapes inspired by Biomimicry Lumina project
The Lumina project is inspired by Biomimicry. The discipline that studies the best ideas from nature to solve human problems. Nature is a big source of inspiration and there are different ways to be inspired from it.
6
Light effects Lumina project
The life of light has been depicted with a storyboard called Cave Story where a prehistoric cave man is the protagonist. The result of the research can be used to create suggestive light effects.
7
Final proposal render Lumina project
The ďŹ nal proposal for the Lumina project is a light source extracted from a matrix of design opportunities. This device creates a safe and magical atmosphere that is ideal for the gathering of people.
8
Sketch scenario Lumina project
Camping has been chosen as the scenario in order to demonstrate the several possibilities to apply the ďŹ ndings. It represents the perfect scenario that combines outdoor activities, social experiences and different uses of light together. Designing for a camping scenario also involves considering aspects such as portability, exibility, self-sufďŹ ciency and ecology. 9
Final proposal in setting Lumina project
The main aim of this device is to provide a secure and enchanting atmosphere, however it may be used for other purposes such as reading and cooking.
10
Use of the device and a proposal of colours Lumina project
Illustration and Flash animation of the device to show instruction. In order to use this device it is enough to ďŹ ll it up with water and add the capsule that dissolving in water releases the bioluminescence protein that makes the water glow in different colours. 11
VRay render CANON printer
This is a generation of a 3D CAD model. The potential error sources in the modelling techniques were developed and understood therefore leading to an attempt to critically assess the extent to which the modelled output provides a solution.
12
Structure of the CAD model CANON printer
Behind the ďŹ nal render of a CAD model there is a complex structure which is the result of the application of different modelling techniques and solutions.
13
Exploded view CANON printer
This is an exploded view of the CANON printer that shows the intended assembly of the different components of the model.
14
Ergonomics CANON printer
The modelling technique is placed in a human context through the inclusion of ergonomically modelled populations.
15
The brain storming Time Saver project
Brain Storm Device somewhere between a compass and a gps navigator, portable, handable and user friendly.
An idea for saving time is a device that can help us find objects that we have lost. With technology from the foreseeable future it “knows” the position and the name of all main objects in the house. With a pointing and indoor mapping system, this device can easily direct the person to where their lost object is located. 16
Mood board Time Saver project
“What is the shape of the velocity? This mood board shows the common idea of speed. In most cases we can see the speed in nature. The contraction of the muscles used for running gives an idea of strength and agility.
17
Sketches inpired by speed Time Saver project
These sketches are inspired by the images that give the common idea of speed.
18
Final proposals Time Saver project
100 170
Final proposals for the Time Saver project. Demonstrations of illustration and rendering.
19
Sketches Gaia project
The Gaia project is a machine which is capable of digging holes up to 8M in front of the driver and 5m below the surface. The shapes are in harmony with natural landscapes and urban areas. A minimalist an neutral design was achieved with inspiration from natural and organic shapes. 20
Sketches Product innovation
It is a sturdy seat inspired by values such as doing the right thing, and protecting who we love. Its presence is important and gives a sense of assurance. It is made of simple materials such as wood and leather. It provides comfort and relaxation with the right atmosphere to read a good book.
21
Final proposal ALFA Quadrifoglio
The ALFA Quadrifoglio project is aimed at the sports car market, placing an intermediate step between FIAT and Ferrari. The proposal is a “genetic contamination between ALFA Romeo and Ferrari creating a model that yearns to be noticed, with good taste, without losing the distinctive signs of the brand. 22
Project details ALFA Quadrifoglio
ALFA Quadrifoglio is the Thesis project for my Industrial Design bachelor’s degree from the Seconda Università di Napoli in Italy.
