VAUGHN HATLEY, WHAT A TREASURE!
Memorial Day is a time to remember those men and women who have served our country, past and present. With this thought, Vaughn Hatley comes to mind. Our Vaughn served in Vietnam during the war’s darkest days. He would spend three months at a time in the rice paddies, seeing the worst of what mankind is capable of. Upon returning to this country, he again felt and saw the dark side of mankind, that he thought he had left behind. What makes this man so remarkable is he rose above the horrors of both war and the ruthless homecoming he experienced. Today, you will find this phenomenal man peacefully moving through our Center’s halls, standing so straight and tall, one would never know the challenges he survived with such dignity. As you can see by the pictures, honor was shown by our country many years later. A Purple Heart doesn’t begin to show what a huge heart this man has! Vaughn continues his journey of serving by volunteering here at the Center. That adorable lady by his side is our very own Martha Hatley! The lower picture shows them on a typical day of delivering meals to our homebound, as they have done for over 10 years. Vaughn and Martha are our priceless jewels that we treasure. We feel honored to be a part of their lives.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG HERE AT YOUR CENTER!
It is time to start our outside gardening projects. The back outdoor corner is being designed and we want your input! We have planned to have a rock garden project. We have collected River Rocks from the mountains of Virginia and you are welcome to paint one and place it in the garden. This is a collaborative effort with our Center and the Brunswick County Wellness Coalition. There is an interest sheet at the front desk for you to make suggestions or just find Melissa or Jackie to discuss. We are also going to have flowerpots sitting on the front entrance patio tables.
A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS Would this type of event be of interest to you? MONTHLY AFTER-HOURS GET TOGETHER
