Meet a team member

What is your position and tenure at Bryan Ashley?

I am a project developer, and I’ve been with the team for two years.

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

I’d have to say under the sun by the water or in my garden.

How do you prefer to start your day?

I am a morning person. I jump out of bed, turn on my music, take care of the animals, and enjoy an extra large espresso.

As the newest edition to the award-winning Archer Hotel collection, Archer Hotel Tysons is chock-full of thoughtful touches and local discoveries. Discerning travelers who visit Tysons for business, personal getaways or celebrations will discover Archer’s unexpected sophistication and refined design in this upscale metropolitan market. One of the most telling details of the residentially-minded design is the notion that no two bedrooms are alike. Based on this concept, Archer Hotel Tysons features four unique guestroom and suite floor plans, each with distinct design palettes that lend themselves to the feel of welcoming residences.

All Archer’s 178 guestrooms and suites feature modern box-tufted headboards in varying heights with custom black quartz-topped side tables and

lighting with brass accents to create approachable urban accommodations. Bathrooms don weathered iron vanities, white subway-tiled walk-in showers, and modern plank flooring.

The largest room on site, the Archer’s Den, is a special-edition one-bedroom urban sanctuary complete with a private furnished balcony, a separate living area with a dark caramel crushed velvet sofa, weathered saddle wingback chairs, and a 65-in. flat-screen HDTV. Combine this with the fully stocked wet bar, a private bedroom, and a stunning master bathroom with a Carrera marble walk-in shower, a large soaking tub shrouded by Virginia grasses, and a deluxe double vanity —and this room becomes perfect for longer stays and entertaining.

Sims Patrick Studio

Creative we love

When designing a hotel property, what is the most important factor for you?

At Sims Patrick Studio, we are passionate about good design and thought-provoking details. We aim to design a space that will be someone’s favorite place. That’s how our work becomes magical; when it all comes together to become a part of the fabric of the story.

What drives your design decisions?

It’s all about the design narrative and how we bring it to life through the lens of a storyteller. We do extensive research on the area and property to discover what special stories need to be told. Every design decision is driven by the narrative and how we can best carry out our custom-crafted narrative with unique and inspiring solutions.

How do you kick-start the creative process when it comes to high-end hotel design?

We like to immerse ourselves and explore the property’s locale. We draw inspiration from native organic materials as it gives us a starting point for color palettes, textures, and patterns. For example, at the kick-off meeting for the Terrace Hotel Lakeland, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, we set aside time to collect beautiful snail shells, rich coral-colored magnolia seed pods, and elegant, graceful white swan feathers from the property’s adjacent lake. These natural elements inspired our design narrative which drove our selections for the finishes, fabrics, and artwork.

Your hotel projects are spread across the United States. How does keeping “sense of place” factor into your design process?

We like to feature local artists in the artwork package that can creatively tell the design story through canvases and 3-dimensional artwork and ground the property with its regional references.

What luxury hotel design trends do you expect we’ll see emerge over the next five years?

We predict that the future of luxury hotel design will be nostalgic, with bold color palettes and dramatic patterns as statements. Luxury hotels will feel more casual, eclectic, attainable, and all-inclusive. It will have interactive technology with membership amenity spaces, and it will feel more like a club versus a hotel. Remarkable and memorable food and beverage concepts and highly designed destination bar and restaurant spaces will become more of an integral part of the overall experience.

What are the challenges and opportunities of being more sensitive to the environment?

Sustainable or LEED-certified materials are not as readily available for selecting and specifying in the hospitality sector and tend to be more expensive. For most hotel developers, it’s cost prohibitive. We see this as a huge opportunity for hotel brands to expand their LEED property portfolios and support an environmental strategy.
