Bryant’s New Data Visualization Lab: A World of Opportunity for Future Leaders Opening in early May, Bryant University’s new Data Visualization Lab offers students fully-immersive experiences through 360-degree video and synthetic digital environments, as well as endless possibilities for cross-disciplinary collaborations with peers and faculty. Made possible by a generous donation from HP through their Educause-HP Campus of the Future initiative, Bryant students now have access to equipment including mixed reality headsets and controllers, HP Z-series graphics workstations and VR backpack workstations, wall-mounted digital displays, and high-resolution 360 degree cameras. Bryant is one of only a few schools with a state-of-the-art lab like this one. Staff from the Krupp Library and the departments of Academic Affairs and Academic Computing are supporting the operation of the lab. As junior Hannah Bloomwald stated, the lab “offers students a fantastic opportunity to familiarize themselves with a new technology” and “be among the best equipped and best prepared going forward.” 2

Diversity and Inclusion Forum Inspires Bryant Community On April 24th, Bryant students, faculty, and staff gathered for a community forum entitled “Confronting Ourselves: Building for Inclusive Excellence in the Bryant University Community.” Led by diversity educator Derek Greenfield, Ph.D., the forum attracted 500 community members as they were challenged to examine their biases and achieve “inclusive excellence.” The community forum was the second event in a series of discussions this past semester surrounding the topic of diversity and inclusion. Greenfield is a former college professor and administrator, and has been recognized in the Huffington Post for his leadership. He also co-founded the Higher Education Leadership Foundation, and serves as a Kellogg Fellow.

The Bottom Line, Bryant’s premiere acappella team, is among the top 32 in the nation. Their first single will debut this fall (top). Graduates walked under the archway as part of the 156th Bryant commencement on May 18th (bottom).

Bryant Baseball Players Named All-Americans Senior Steve Theetge and junior Chris Wright were named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-America Third Team selections and the first teammates since 2016 to earn All-American honors. They are the eighth and ninth players in Bryant’s Division I history to become All-Americans. Theetge has enjoyed one of the best seasons for a pitcher in Bryant history, becoming the program’s all-time winningest pitcher. He finished his career with a 32-14 record, 270 strikeouts, and a 3.03 ERA in a program record 344 1/3 innings. He has earned Northeast Conference and New England Pitcher of the Year honors. Serving as Bryant’s starting first baseman in all 60 games, as well as the closer, Wright earned All-American honors and finished the season hitting .297 with 14 doubles, six home runs, a career-high 51 RBI and 45 runs scored. Wright appeared in 21 games on the mound, going 1-1 with a programrecord tying 13 saves, a 2.36 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings. He is a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award, and was selected in the 12th round, 356th overall, by the San Francisco Giants in the 2019 MLB Draft.
