The Long Overcoat Friday March 28, 2014
Although recent seasons have seen the cropped jacket – in its various guises, from bomber and blouson to denim and biker – become the go-to outerwear silhouette within womenswear, spring/summer 2014 sees longer length styles return to prominence. As alluded to above, the transitional period between winter and spring is notoriously difficult to dress for, and the British summertime is often not much better. Fluctuating temperatures and unpredictable weather means that it is hard to plan what to wear from hour to hour, never mind day to day. This season, designers and high street collections seem to have combated this perennialproblem by pushing long length, lightweight outerwear that offers true protection from the elements while remaining breathable and easy to carry. This blend of fashion and function is sure to make a practical and versatile addition to any modern gent’s wardrobe. In terms of length, these lightweight jackets tend to finish a couple of inches above or below the knee, offering you almost complete coverage from those notorious April showers.

Remember the song “Short Skirt, Long Jacket? Cake was definitely on to something I must say. If you want that Olsen-twin model off-off duty look this trend is the one to try. The longline blazer flatters just about any body type, from petite to pear to extra large. So now that spring is slowly, but surely, approaching, its time to hunt down a light layer that can sharpen your look from day to night. Be it a graphic printed elongated blazer or a duster coat, this classic can take any form imaginable. Just throw the topper over a graphic tee or silk button-up for an effortlessly put-together look. So, whether you rock it with a short skirt or mile-long wide-legged pants, any one of these blazers is sure to be a sartorial hit. Platform Posse
Thursday April 3, 2014
Famolare and Cherokee of California, introduced “comfort” platforms, designed to combine the added height of platforms with the support and comfort of sneakers, or even orthopedic shoes, and by the time the fad finally fizzled out in the 1980s, girls and women of all ages were wearing them. Whether it be on the runway of New York Fashion week or roaming the streets of the urban jungle, the platform shoe has definitely made it’s way back into the shoe game. The varieties of soles are endless whether it be a flatform or a sky-high platform reminiscent of the 90’s. This revival of footwear is back with a vengeance, and has me feeling like a Spice Girl. The essentials for festival season
With festival season in full swing the most buzzed about event of the season, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, starts this weekend. In the barren desert of Indio, California the annual two weekend event celebrates its 15th year. It also falls at the beginning of the summer festival season and acts as a preview for the next few months of live music around the world. The young woman who has by contrast grown more complicated: cropped tops, layers, stacks of jewelry, fringes on everything, cutout sandals, and funky shades to protect from the elements. The festival goer is an old-school cultural typologist, one looking for myth and cultural meaning. This type looks more flexible, curious and specific to the region; she is meticulous and in some vague way historical, aware of the past.
Quirky Clutches
Thursday April 17, 2014
This fashion month saw a lot of playful accessories and indulging of childhood sensibilities, both on the runways and the streets. From Chanel’s grocery-store set to Moschino’s happy-meal themed outfits, the season’s fashions are full of whimsical touches — a sentiment perhaps best evidenced by the range of quirky bags showgoers toted around with them. Beginning with the abundance of the Fendi fur key chain, street-style bags and clutches only got more imaginative as the weeks went on. These statement bags for spring speak for themselves and work as the punchline of any outfit.

Orthapedic Overload U-G-L-Y, you ain’t got no alibi, you ugly! Blame it on the Birkenstock, but the accessory du jour is bringing ugly shoes out into the light of day and on to the street and feet of every fashion editor and street style star alike. What the French would refer to as jolie laide, the sturdy, sensible sole stormed the runways in unflattering and universally ugly fashion for footwear that is hefty, flat and defiantly unsexy. Reclaiming rather pedestrian-looking footwear and
Teva sandals from tourists, the ugly shoe phenomenon is giving strap-laden shoes a new lease on high-fashion life. There was a moment at the Céline spring 2013 show in Paris last fall, as models shuffled out in cozy fur-lined slip-ons, when a collective sigh of relief rippled through the fashion crowd. “That silhouette was universally considered ugly,” says Vogue.com contributor Katherine Bernard. “But Phoebe Philo’s luxe reinterpretation of a Birkenstock got me thinking. It’s like the most comfortable sandal in the world is having a stylish renaissance.” With its squishy cork footbed, roomy toe box, and thick buckled straps, the sturdy, sensible sole has been embraced by others. In fact, fashion editors in these very
The image that best typifies the look—fresh-faced, carefree, and Birkenstock-shod—is that of a young Kate Moss shot by photographer Corinne Day back in the 1990s. Moss is the picture of alluring youth in a crop top, cropped jeans, and double-strap sandals. Complete with orthopedic-style soles, pool slide straps and ultra-utilitarian fastenings like Velcro, models marched the catwalk in cushy wedges, clunky square heels, squishy cork footbeds, roomy toe boxes and thick-soled sandals for a lesson in comfortable cool. Encapsulating a variety of styles, so far the ugly-chic sandal spawn has included a sequinned hiking shoe-and-sock combo at Prada, neoprene pool platforms at Marni, futuristic hightops at VPL, spongy shower shoes at MSGM and actual Birkenstocks at Edun.
Rainbow Bright
Friday May 2, 2014
Have you already got new image for new season? If you have stuck in your casual and dull image I should say that you will soon feel all the negative impact of your hairstyle. I hope you won’t like to blend in the crowd so let’s get ready to vamp up your look. Let’s begin the spring/summer season with a brand new hair color that will break the monotony and turn your hairstyle into a style statement. The following examples of celebrity rainbow highlights will inspire you to leave behind subtle tones and get brand new image. Get ready to plunge into new reality full of bright colors because this is the era of innovative colors and styles. As the best source of inspiration I have picked celebrity nontraditional hairstyles. If you think that they are too bold and you are not ready to color hair you can begin with hair chalk or semi-permanent hair color. Well, as you see there are plenty of options
to get your desired look and all you need to do is to be brave enough. Alexa Chung, Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kelly Osbourne and many others experimented with neon colors like green, purple, violet, Atomic pink, pale pink, electric blue and many other shades that can be combined and mixed. Whether you decide to go all out like the fearless Chloe Norgaard, or just add subtle strips of color throughout like Kylie Jenner, you’re sure to turn heads.

Kimono Kraze
Thursday May 8, 2014
In the 70’s, hippies were inspired by eastern cultures, in music, philosophies and fashion. The kimono is a traditional Japanese T-shaped robe, and became very popular. People wore them as home style robes and comfort wear, but also as glamour dressing. This spring a sprinkle of oriental glam has got every girl looking comfy-cute. Kimono-style cover-ups are definitely in! Fashion lovers have adopted this
easy-to- wear trend ever since it emerged last fall. The heavier Kimono throws were worn in the winter, but now that spring has arrived we see lighter more floral designs arising. The hippie trend is versatile because one may wear it to work, the beach, or a night out on the town! Mix and match the Kimono throw with pencil skirts, throw it over you favoite bathing suit, or rock it with a club dress. Nevertheless, designers are getting creative by adding fringe, and making the garments more lux. The glamorous loose fitting drape-like garment is the perfect item to wear everyday! I love how fashion blogger Aimee Song, pictured to the left, styled this gorgeous, pink kimono. Delicate gold accessories, boyfriend jeans, and heels create a casual, laid back look that is perfect for spring and summer. This is the perfect transition piece to carry you through the day with ease. Throw this item over top of any outfit for an efforless look.

Optical illusion: Trompe-l’oeil
Friday May 16, 2014
Blake Lively followed in Keira Knightley and Rihanna’s footsteps today by wearing one of Chanel Couture’s new “optical illusion” designs to the premiere of Mr. Turner at the Cannes Film Festival. The increasingly popular silhouette basically accentuates a tiny waist while being more modest than a crop top. The contrasting fits on Blake’s embroidered gown were less stark than styles Keira and Rihanna have worn — but certainly still highlighted the Gossip Girl star’s figure. The new trend is part of a growing obsession with having (or appearing to have) as slender of a waist as possible. No longer content with diet and exercise, it seems some celebrities are resorting to slightly more extreme — albeit traditional — practices of wearing modern corsets or “waist trainers.” Source: www.vogue.com
